  • In this video, I show you how to pair/connect your PlayStation 4 controller with Retropie.
    The ps4 controller is also known as the DS4 or Dual Shock 4 and it works with the Raspberry 3 running Retropie.

    Tutorial is great as usual, thanks for this.
    For those managing to pair the controller but who are not able to use it once it is paired, just delete/uninstall the PS3 controller drivers and you'll be good to go.
    From my experience so far, there is quite a bit of input lag. Performing a simple Hadoken in Street Fighter II was almost impossible. Once plugged in though, 0 input lag whatsoever with the PS4 controller. I suggest you use a charge/data cable with a USB extension for the best possible experience.

    This info might be useful to anyone having trouble. For me, the PS4 controller won't connect wirelessly if I have the PS3 controller's drivers downloaded. So try uninstalling them if you have them downloaded. Or maybe it could be some other drivers you've downloaded that's causing similar problems.

      @@verstehenicht2525 No problem, happy it helped! :) It stumped me for a long time too, I was also delighted to figure out this fix.
      PS. The downside to this though is that unfortunately you can't have both the PS3 and PS4 controller set up with the Raspberry Pi at the same time. However I think there are actually two different versions of the PS3 controller's drivers that you can download. One of them will cause this issue with the PS4 controller, but the other one won't. So it may be possible to have both controllers set up at the same time after all if you use the other drivers. I haven't tested this out yet though so I may be wrong on this.

I actually tried this on Retropie 4.6 with the Raspberry Pi 4 and it's not possible to connect my Dualshock 4 and I'm getting more and more frustrated. Is there any possibilty to get this work on 4.6? Greetings from Germany ;-)

      +Adam Dickinson I was thinking something similar, for example, in the (experimental DraStic) emulator for the Nintendo DS, that way you only need to have the PS4 controller connected, instead of using a mouse with it, and then just swipe a finger on the "Touchpad" to move the Stylus and click it in to act as tapping Stylus down!... :D :)

    I was stuck too and having the same problems as everybody else but I figured out a solution.
    I had to reset my controller.
    you do this by grabbing a needle and on the back of the controller, holding down the reset button for 10 seconds. It's that small little hole in the back.
    I then went into the retropie settings and erased my configuration for the controller.
    Once I rebooted, it detected two controllers. I simply used my PlayStation 4 controller to map out the buttons and there you go!

      @rebranded1248 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jiggy Gino Does the PS4 controller have to be wireless? Or can I attach it to the usb charging cable and connect that to the Pi's exterior usb controller port? If that works, I wouldn't need to pair it at all, it would just pair/connect automatically right? Also are PS4 controller working currently on Rasberry pi 4?

    • @jiggygino2855

      I don't think it matters if it's wireless or if it's plugged in as long as it detects it. Try it wireless first, if that doesn't work then go plugged in.

Unless I go in, delete the bluetooth device, and do this process over again everytime. Should it reconnect? I also cannot get a xbox 360 controller to pair and I followed all the tutorials. It does for like 10 seconds and shuts off. Really just struggling with anything wireless right now.

    Hey Eta, so I'm having an issue. I have successfully paired my ps4 controller to my raspberry pi but I get a pop up that says it will disable my old ps3 controller. In parentheses, it says to disregard if using another controller to which I am. When I would then back out to main menu into controller configuration, my ps4 controller does not register after having been successfully paired. Is this a script issue? It's a newer ps4 controller too, bought around the same time your video was uploaded and not an original that came with my unit when the ps4 was released. Right now I just Uninstalled the ps3 drivers to see if that will help any. If need be I can get it back but I'm lost at the moment

    Is anyone having trouble saving on n64 with a ps4 remote. Everything else works but "select" and "right shoulder" won't save...

    I manage to pair the remote and then go to configure input and I see gamepad detected. But then I press any button on the PS4 to configure and nothing happens it doesn't go to the next step to configure the buttons

    You can use the same controller on PS4 and Retropie?

    • @rael_gc
      @rael_gc 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You'll need to sync with each other every time you switch. Bluetooth gamepads have memory to keep only one paired device at time.

      +Mike Bijl I know your comment is 5 months old, but what you have to do is go into the menu for your emulator.
      Using a keyboard, to get to the menu, press the keys specified for the following systems:
      GBA and GBC (Default Emulators) - You need to press "Hotkey" + the "M" key on the keyboard.
      Nintendo DS (DraStic Emulator) - You need to press the "M" key on the keyboard.
      Any RetoArch Core (for the Original PlayStation in my case) - Press "Hotkey" + the key you have bound for "X".

      over00lord Unknown what do you do once you get into the menu???? I can’t get hotkey plus m to work on gba but I can get hotkey plus x. Anyone have any luck with it???

    So strange. So my connection timed out, but I also saw there were like 50 Bluetooth devices to choose from, and I don’t connect to anything via Bluetooth. So I removed them all, and now I never get a wireless device anymore, but all 50 of the other devices keep showing up.
    I’m just wasting my time with this it seems.

    I've a question for anybody using this. If I pair the ps4 controller to my rpi3b+, and I want to play with my PS4, have I must to re-pair with my console?. And the most important issue: when I want to play again with raspberry pi 3, have I must to repeat all the procedure?
    Thank you in advance...

      Rick Sanchez C-137 it's somewhere in the Bluetooth settings for retropie

    • @vgrepairs
      @vgrepairs 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dont listen to nicholas dude. After pairing all you gotta do is "wake up" your ps4 control by hitting the ps button as u usually would and itll connect

    • @nicholasmascioni3333
      @nicholasmascioni3333 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Clark Yes that’s how you connect it but there’s a setting a retro pie that you can configure to select when it connects, either on boot or anytime retropie is running and you hit the button.

      Your controller probably timed out half way through pairing. After the bluetooth search is complete, put your controller back into pairing mode and then select it. Should connect instantly. That's what happened to me.

      what is the configuration layout?

    • @seanwilliams5848
      @seanwilliams5848 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      SINKY right so it’s
      X=B
      O=A
      SQUARE=Y
      TRIANGLE=X
      then everything else is the same, so in the menus when you are selecting games you will use CIRCLE as your go button and X as your back button but when you get into a game it will be how it normally is on a PS1/PS2/PS3/PS4

    • @seanwilliams5848
