    Just as a note. I kept getting permission denied messages so luckily found this solved it.
    Step 1: sudo -s (gives the root access)
    Step 2:apt-get update (get the updates)
    Step 3: apt-get upgrade (upgrades the system)

    Mine had some differences in it, doing the sudo apt update gave me several repos that were marked old. Then again, this video is about 7 months old, but this still worked out for me.

    FYI for the noobs like me, when I did this I didn't get any upgrades available, turns out it was because retropie wasn't connected to wifi (which was an effort connecting in itself) - so connect to wifi (locale, timezone and wlan) then go back and do these steps and it finds the updates

    retropie 4.7.1 . i ran the updates and it said done 0 . like it was already up to date . After doing that twice it found the 8bitdo pro 2 . but then when you move on to security mode . you can select 1 or 2 option , but when i try and launch number 1 or 2 option all freezes and then wired key board stops working . Same controller and same raspberry pi 4 b works great in recalbox . sometimes retropie finds the controller sometimes it does not . I have cleared bluetooth controllers and no difference . I will keep working on it .

    • @OfficialChaseBrogan
      @OfficialChaseBrogan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At the time of this video 4.7.18. Honestly not seeing much reason to update. I never really do though unless a new emulator or something major comes out. These updates in my opinion have more issues than fixes. That’s not always the case but I find it to be the majority of the time. Sometimes you get more packages available but for where we are with everything on retropie there’s not going to be any collection we can get into that we don’t already have access to. We’re maxing out on n64, dreamcast and psp as it is. There’s no chance of getting into Wii or GameCube and Saturn runs terribly. We need more power more than anything.

I changed the connect procedure so it suppose to connect to the controller when RetroPie is booting and nothing. When I chose option to connect all paired device also got nothing. @@cyberluke Did you update from within retropie or did you just install a fresh install?

    • @cyberluke
      @cyberluke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OfficialChaseBrogan I did update from within retropie. I'm software dev with Linux experience. Yesterday had like 4 installations :-D. Then SD card 16GB got corruped. Today I bought 64GB Sandisk Extreme Pro. They promise 90MB/s write speed ,but real write speed is only 20MB/s. Still 5 times faster than the old one. Anyway, the issue is when you hit Yes to Upgrade kernel and stuff. That will cause only issues like that. And installing BlueZ package will print error that init.d config file does not exist. So I would guess it does use different, older, services management. Blueman also did not help. The only way it did work if I registered bluetooth devices right after install and then performed upgrade. If I upgraded first and then wanted to register device, it caused these issues. Right now I perform only apt update, not apt upgrade and will keep it that way. This Retropie is still VERY buggy and I have to manually edit a lot of config stuff for Samsung TV, hdmi audio, wifi setup. Then setting up shaders and installing emulators, such as Amiga is also painful. Nobody on Retropie tells what Kickstart BIOS you need, which version and where exactly to put it and how to name it. Same issue with PSP and PSX. Just finished downloading Mame romset, but it is 2003 version. I would like to try the 2016, but not sure if RP4 can handle it. Like if I'm not software developer, I would throw it away already and use PC only.

    • @OfficialChaseBrogan
      @OfficialChaseBrogan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cyberluke Gotcha. Yeah unfortunately I have to agree with you in that RetroPie can be a real pain the setup. It's not as straight forward as it should be. Batocera has taken the right approach in terms of BIOS because it gives you a built in tool that lists exactly what you need and does a check for you so you just run the check tool and it'll list whatever is missing for each collection. RetroPie also seems to bounce around so much from version to version. What works one week may not work the following week because of the quick turn around time between updates.

    • @futuregamer5791
      @futuregamer5791 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OfficialChaseBrogan well I was actually able to get the controller to reconnect without updating but I cannot navigate backward through the menus in order to configure the controller. the keyboard does not allow me to navigate back through the menus. I can leave the Bluetooth pairing menu but cannot get to the main menu unless I do a hard reset and then the controller loses connection again. So basically I can use the keyboard to advance by either hitting enter or a but I can't backup by using b or any other key. So I guess I need to further configure the keyboard in order to include a back button but I forget how to access the configure menu when you first start retropie.
