Thanks for the good explanation, I had been looking for a long time to change my OS.
The broken screen no longer had any characters.
Thanks to your explanation, I am back "online" with my PC.
I did disconnect the cable that is connected to the screen instead of disconnect the cable that is connected to the mainboard, it does not display vaio logo in external monitor when turn on untill the computer sucessfully boot into the login screen
I have ezactly this same problem. With broken monitor I dont see nothing on external monitor.

Hi so i tried this but it just wouldnt work, i have a broken laptop and my brightness wasbt working for idk what reason i watched a tut and a guy said to disable intergrated graphics i did now i cant connect my laptop to monitor i disabled the lcd cable still no i use a hdmi to hdmi, u think vga to vga will work or still the same
Hi, laptop without brightness have problem with LCD brightness part of circuit or broken LED, not related to graphics :( Probably it will not work with vga also, like hdmi... Try to reset the bios settings, take out laptop battery, take out CMOS battery (usually CR2023) and hold power button for minute, put back CMOS battery and try to power on laptop with hdmi/vga cable connected. Or just try on keyboard to press Fn key and display related button on top, most likely some of F buttons.
What kind of cable is it? Vga to vga or vga to hdmi?

@@MilekaRobot oh. I have a like 2012 Sony vaio laptop with a screen that's on its way out. I'm looking into getting an external monitor. I'm not sure what cable to get. The laptop has a vga port. I bought a black cable with a vga end and an hdmi one. Which is what I'm looking for. Hdmi to connect to a TV from the laptop's vga port. The cable didn't work though. The cable I bought says ethernet on it, is that why? Will a blue vga one with hdmi work? I've seen videos saying it'll need an adapter. I'm confused. Can you link the kind I need?
Did you disconnected laptop LCD cable from motherboard like on video? With cable connected I also cannot get the picture on external monitor. And if you did, yes, that cable can be a problem, with ethernet option. There are many VGA to HDMI adapters but be careful maybe some of them also did not work, you can buy from aliexpress or ebay but first read the comments / reviews and check is it working.
