    This video and the last one are exactly the reason I have the following rules regarding Door security;
    1. Immediately remove any hollow-core or panel door and replace with solid wood or metal if possible. Pricey, yes. But peace of mind and family safety are priceless in comparison. Plus whenever you get a chance to slam the door in someone’s face, it’s way more effective and satisfying.
    (I realize that apartment complexes and rental leases sometimes prevent alteration to property but I’ve convinced Management and landlords to let me do this if I replace it with the original upon leaving or agree to leave it after I depart for property value)
    2. Immediately remove any chain locks unless you somehow figured out how to use some freaking Grade 43 chain (If so we need to talk) and replace that tragedy with a Defender Security U ($15). You might have seen them in hotels and such.
    3. Always immediately replace any hardware screws with 2-3” wood deck screws. Seriously these bad bitches will stop a freight train or a meth head with ease. Stock hardware is a joke and it’s a crime that they sell locks with inadequate mounting hardware
    4. Buy a doorknob stop bar. Master lock makes one for $20 available at Home Depot. Super easy and simple and very effective. Added bonus; decent Melee weapon when answering the door for Zombies or Kirby Vacuum Salesmen. It’s a Vacuum, not a 99 Civic. It ain’t worth $1,500 hoss.
    5. Nightlock makes a floor mounted door brace for $40 that literally is anchored solidly into the floor and effectively locks the bottom of the door in place with a 7/16” steel plate that slides into place in the floor mounted base. It may seem a little like overkill but if you’ve upgraded security at your locks and knobs, a hearty kick or bash to the bottom can still flex and break the door. Disregard if you have a metal door, cause honestly bro, if they manage to damage a metal door enough to wedge open the bottom like a puppy forcing a baby gate open, start sending shots in that direction with Haste. Two to the chest, face gets the rest.
    6. Now that you’ve upgraded your door, locks and knob with some serious freakin hardware, don’t forget the hinges. Oh yeah, I’m talkin stainless steel commercial grade heavy duty hinges. That Schlage kit you get at Lowe’s for $30 is a joke. And don’t forget them kickass deck screws to put it up.

    The chain locks are more to detour silent entry. You are going to know if someone is breaking in if they bust the chain apart. Most night thieves want to be in and out unseen and unheard. They will avoid a place if they have to make a lot of sound breaking in.

    • @rideroftheforce5245
      @rideroftheforce5245 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chain locks are one of the easiest locks to bypass quietly. All you have to do is stick a wire coat hanger with a hook on it, into the gap, close the door most the way, and slide the chain off

    yea changing a few things made it last longer but it still failed at the end of the day. personally i think when you made this video tyler you already knew that the chain setup was really not ever going to hold up and that those things are really just made to hold a door back long enough to get away from someone who tries to force the door open once you open it so that you dont get smacked in the face. that leaving time for you to defend yourself or get away.
    so well played man. was fun watching you try these out.

    Another couple of important issues to consider are that some forms of lock will delay emergency egress, and is that locks will delay response by emergency personnel. If one has a heart attack, pulmonary blood clot, or other medical medical emergency, and is unable to unlock the door for medical personnel, the extra time required for personnel to force entry may prevent them from giving critically needed medical aid.

      Issue with that is it really needs to be done on carpet to be effective. My sister used to do it and had a tile floor. All you would have to do it open the door as usual and the chair would fall because it slid. Could also do rubber feet on it I guess, but that's a bit of a reach imo.

  • @antystein
    @antystein 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't think that the placement of the chain caused it to be more durable. It just made it impossible to open it from outside. The reason that he had to kick it so many times is that the top hinge of the door is not attached anymore, from all the torture the door experienced previously, so there is not enough leverage to break the chain with one hit.

    • @flatfingertuning727
      @flatfingertuning727 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having the receiver on the door means the chain is pulling at a very different angle from when it's on the frame, and much of the force will be borne by the corner of the door.

    The door was so compromised, it was absorbing the majority of the force and keeping the chain from breaking.
    When a chain's installed on a metal clad entry door, it'll pop if you hit it with your shoulder.
    I accidentally broke the chain on my basement door when I moved into my house. The door was really sticky, and I didn't realize that my friend that was helping me move actually put the chain on the door. So I hit the door with my shoulder and obliterated the chain at the part that slides into the plate.

    In the door chains defense, it was never designed to be a secure lock for a door. It was designed to give someone inside the house the ability to open the door to some degree giving them the ability to talk to someone on the other side without having to completely give up all their security. With the door chain, you can still hold the door against someone stronger than you until you are able to fully shut it and engage a more secure lock, such as a deadbolt.

    An actual house door is anchored in place, forcing it to take more energy from the blows. This frame gets to move around, allowing energy to flow in different places. This takes away energy surrounding the lick itself. Energy is like electricity, looking for the pa the of least resistance for release. What I mean is an actual house door would go quicker, this is giving the locks that extra edge to resist in this test setup.

  • @martyspenst5883

    Try the slide latches with longer screws mounted to the door frame and not on the door. Then put one at 8 inches from the top of the door and 23 inches from the bottom of the door as well. Plus try using longer screws in the dead bolt and door knob plates that are in the door frame. Which I believe that you will have some fun with and hope that you can bust though them?

    Try out the door jamb that goes to the floor from the doorknob but replace that tiny button with a bolt of some sort. That is the way I have it and that door is INDESTRUCTIBLE!! Just Try it out. And thanks for making this video.

    The good thing for gun owners is....
    The amount of times it took for you to kick it in WITH the wood screws would give a gun owner PLENTY of time to acknowledge the threat and be ready.

      Unless you just stuck a wire coat hanger with a hook on it into the gap, close the door most the way, and slide the chain off.

    If you use the triple murphy bar.
    You not break the door open. You have to use a metal cutting saw to get in.

    Them chain locks are pretty good if you want to get air through your house without having your door unlocked.

  • @michaelsanger8327
    @michaelsanger8327 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    well the door is pretty banged up and takes a lot of the force because it bends instead of being stiff. my guess is that if you retried with a new door that has its original stiffnes and transfers all of the force to the chain instead of bending, you'd look a lot smarter :)

    You can pick chain locks with a rubber band and a piece of tape. a zip tie if you put enough puts into dexterity

    A lot of that impact if being diverted by that flimsy frame that’s moving when you hit the door, if that was an actual installed door you could easily kick it open after one hit

    The most secure way to keep your door locked is to get a steel door with steel frames and weld it every time you leave. Then when you get home, use a plasma cutter to get back in.
