    Thank you for this video! I got my elite this morning and was able to assemble it by myself thanks to your instructions. I used some of the included styrofoam to prop up the lower legs while I screwed them in and then I was able to do the upper front leg and then inserted the shelf and screwed in the 3 legs which let me use it to prop up the upper back leg while I screwed it in to the body. After I locked the casters in place it was a breeze to tilt it back upright. The hardest part of the whole assembly was screwing in the side shelf. They could have made that easier. But thanks to your tips throughout the video I did everything right the first time! Love this channel!

    Thank you for the information. Yesterday I purchased the Pit Boss 1600 Elite grill Lowe's. I did have second thoughts after they brought out the boxed grill & the top was covered with a large amount of dust. It looked like it had been in stock for years. I brought it home anyway, setup of the grill & app were very easy. The burn in went well. My fears of this grill being old were confirmed when I went to register the grill on the Pit Boss website. I purchased the PB1600PS2 grill. The only option Pit Boss has for registering this model number is a grill cover. I spent over 40 minutes between trying to register & with online chat, I finally gave up. Pit Boss has zero customer support. For problems, the Pit Boss website says to contact the dealer, the dealer says for contact Pit Boss. I wish I had never seen your video.

      Dang!!! Don't worry, you will get the typical 5 -8 years out of that pit, just depends on how good you take care of things. Pit Boss had a shake up in the past 6 months and it pisses me off too. But I gave that pit to one of my best friends that I have known for almost 50 years now (ya I am old) and that pit is still kicking azz! They cook on it 3 times a week in the warmer months and twice a week when it is cold out.

    What are the measurements of the inside of the grill? The main grill grate size on the bottom. I can't find that information anywhere. I was thinking of getting the grilla silverbac, I really like the bottom storage but now I am thinking the 1600 elite because it looks so much larger and seems a lot better sealed along with the ability to open the grill grate.

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bottom grate is 18”x34”. Nice pit but like all these mid range pellet grills they have a few flaws. But the Elite is the best bang for your buck on any box store pellet grill IMO. Thanks for watching!

    I was thinking of getting a smoker and I really liked the design of the Pitboss Pro series 1600, with the black colour and the smoke stack design. None of the Lowe's near me stock it and my local one closed a couple of years ago so it's a 200+ mile round trip to the twin cities to get this. I'm dead set on this exact model and can't even rent a vehicle to get up there and get it under about $200 for a day so this is really frustrating sitting here on a sunny day sitting indoors daydreaming about bbq'ing. What are the box dimensions it came in? I'm wondering if I have an SUV buddy that can loan me their car for a quick pick up if it'll fit. Anxiously awaiting your first cook video on this beaut!!!!!

    • @Veehawk
      @Veehawk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just looked at the shipping dimensions of the 1600 competition series from Menards and it should be a fairly close match. "51.77 H x 33.07 W x 22.05 D"

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ya I don’t think the competition has the same controller. I should be getting the competition in one of these days.
      Can you order one on Lowes website? In the box this pit would never fit in my Santa Fe.
      Wish I could help ya out but they should be sticking these pits every where soon. Good luck and I know the feeling of having to wait! Always happens when I get ready to buy a new camera. Ha ha

      As far as "Box Store" yes. I think it is the best value available. The new VST is pretty cool and the pit runs great for me! I have had a lot of people say the same thing. The rest of the pits you mentioned are all good too but I think there is a tad more bang for your buck on the Elite. Plus all these brands have some type of issue honestly. Just tell your wife you will have at least 6 box store pellet grills that end up being recycled beer cans but if you got 1 LSG your kids will be fighting over it when you start living in the nursing home. hahaha Thanks for watching!

I wonder if I could sneak the money out of my savings account without my wife knowing? 🤔 I totally agree with you with a front shelf. It looks really nice at the beginning but harder than hell to clean. Have you tried the toothbrush method? It is OK and I’m like you. I would rather just wipe things down in a bit completely clean. Awesome instructional video that my son and I will use if I end up getting one of these!

    That is a seriously good looking setup. Been looking hard at the PB Lockhart with the upper cabinet ability to cold smoke. Do you know what this 1600's ability is like to be able to do any smoking like that? Would love to see a video on ways to be able to use this pit like you use your PK. This all stems thanks to you!! We processed over 300lbs of elk meat last weekend and made ground burger, Jalapeno&Cheese summer sausage, Italian sausage, ,breakfast sausage, another kind of sausage, bratwurst, and a cheddarwurst. they all turned out amazing and we did indeed reference your videos. Cant thank you enough. However it showed me I need a new smoker and/or grill and I am trying to figure out which one to get.

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dang that is some serious processing brother!! Don't get the Lockhart, that pit needs a 2.0 version first! You can certainly do sausage and stuff like that on a pellet grill but they run a little hot for my liking. Pit Boss does make a vertical that I hope to get in here this year but again that pit will run hotter than I like for sausage. I know they cost a ton of money but if I was going to do sausage I would get an electric Masterbuilt cabinet for that, a Slow N Sear kettle for grilling and a Pit Boss for smoking BBQ. But if I made 300lbs of sausage I would get a PK100 and a Pit Boss 1150. No box store pellet grill I have ran yet can run temps at that 100-120° but next year I will do a couple videos using a pellet grill to make sausage. Glad all your stuff turned out awesome!!

So if you get a defective caster like I did, you may not be able to move it around easily for months waiting for new parts to come in. If you need a more crucial part, then you're really screwed.

    I own the 1600. I wish the flame broilers was made of ss and the sliding sear plate. Also the temp probe on the left gets tooooo hot and does not match the temp in the chamber, (as the space under the broiler plate has a space left hand side). When I use the griddle the flame broiler and the sliding plate oxidizes (rusts/ looses metal in 0.010" slices)... by making the entire grill ss (see 0:40) you no longer have this issue as YOU CAN NOT USE THE GRIDDLE. (BAD SOLUTION) .. I will remake the flame broiler and the sliding sear plate out of ss as I love using the griddle. SAD after spending basically 1000 bucks (cover, taxes..etc) I need to fabricate stainless parts to deal with a design flaw. Removing the griddle was a stupid management ... choice...

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they made the flame broiler out of ss it would really be expensive. I wish they would make some of those upgrades for sale on their website. The griddle is a nice option but I used mine only 4 times because there was never enough room for the things I do. I got a 5 burner flat top that I use a long side of my pit. I am very happy how quiet this new version is though and how quick mine came up to temp compared to last years 1600. Thanks for watching!!

One, I already have a Pit Boss vertical electric smoker which has been really good. Two, and this sealed the deal for me, was that none of the Traegers have side shelves.
