I honestly had no problem with the last-gen BMW 3 series interior. It was clean and functional (before LCI), and while it wasn't the most interesting, no interior is "interesting" anymore after the honeymoon phase. You just get in, and hope that things work and feel solid. This generation's interior looks very cheap in comparison. Glad they're not refreshing the 3 series any time soon. Long live the sedan!
Thanks for pointing out the privacy settings. Most wouldn't even visit the menu throughout their whole ownership, and car manufacturers are counting on that.
Exterior redesign is fine and definitely doesn't bother me as much as most people. However, interior quality seems ridiculously cheap looking for a BMW. I'm worried to see what BMW does with the upcoming X5 coming in the next few years. Feels like the German's have gone all in on charging a premium from less and less quality. Thanks for the thorough review.
Your thoughts match mine exactly. Throw in the panoramic roof that doesn’t open and it’s just disappointing. I was thinking of waiting for the new gen X5 but it seems this is the direction they are headed for all models and I’d rather current gen X5.
I have not seen this in person yet, but other reviews are saying that there is way too much interior plastic...even in this uplevel trim. And with this being in the $70k range, too much plastic is not good...not even having reachable handles to fold down the rear seats...come on. And the tech seems to just have too many things buried. It's just not usable while driving. Certainly, getting things set just the way you like them up front helps, but modifying them will require you to pull off the road to avoid hurting yourself or someone else. How does this make a touchscreen any better than a haptic touchpad?

As always great review and thanks for getting this out early in the model cycle, even if I'm not in the market. Bought one of the last previous gen X3M40i's. Perhaps waiting for the next model would have been smart, but just don't like the new ergonomics - giant screen, no HVAC buttons, gear shift "switch" etc. I don't hate the new car, but that interior leaves a lot to be desired. I'm sure the new one handles better, but honestly, I'll never use all that the 2024 has, and the extra 10 hp is negligible. 👍
The interior screams of cost cutting. The lack of hard buttons and endless submenus is infuriating. As a G01 owner, I will be looking at different brands for my next car.

How do the audio graphs prove it’s a good audio system if you literally said it sounded monural, lacks brightness, doesn’t sound like what it should for 75k. If it’s anything like in the previous model it’s very underwhelming.
The audio graphs serve as objective measurements to detail the engineering tuning choices/sound signature and distortion levels among other things. Certain things in graphs are audible like phase issues, cancellation effects (nulls) and bass heavy cabins. If music lacks vocal presence you can often track that in the frequency response graphs in mid range. Many other issues are subjective, and requires critical listening, some systems do filtering, noise cancellation, leveling, which is hard to trace doing static measurements. Also the audio tests are done in best case scenario, car parked. Once you introduce road noise etc. You have to use your ears or more advanced testing. We decided a while ago not to go down the reverse engineering route because we are not paid to evaluate audio systems.
With few exceptions, I find objective measurements near useless in cars for the reasons mark expressed. The biggest issue is your own tastes. I hate flabby, boomy bass as much as I hate piercing/nonexistent treble. As soon as you crack the moon roof, all sound quality gets trashed.
