    I love that Jocelyn buys pieces with little chips. Saving beautiful things from a landfill. Heck no one is perfect! Metaphor for loving each other “chips” and all!!

    • @caryulmer5578
      @caryulmer5578 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Beth Tilman I think a chip is sometimes like a patina, it tells a story, so chips or a crack doesn't bother me.

    • @sharonnowlin2297
      @sharonnowlin2297 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree! When I used to have a shop at the flea market, buyers would pick up pieces and point out teeny tiny chips. It used to drive me absolutely crazy!! Then others would buy that same piece and would say: It's not perfect, but neither am I.

    when the sugar bowl has no lid or is not food safe, use them for packets (sugar, sweet & low, equal, etc.) for those guests that don’t like sugar. Or you can put wrapped tea bags in it.

    The teapot with no lid and the hole on the bottom: I usually see them in markets in China and Hong Kong. You pour the water into the hole in the bottom and it does stay in the pot when you flip it right-side up. They're usually sold alongside cups that you can only fill 1/2 way; if you fill it further the liquid will pour out (it's a reminder to be happy with what you have and don't be greedy). I hope this helps!

    Jocelyn you gave me something else to look up, like I don't have enough to research already! I had never heard of SALT MARSH POTTERY pottery!!! Their pottery is quite quaint and is made by 6 women, mostly mothers working part time. They hand press wild flowers into the clay, hand cutting and drying the pieces, then hand painting, glazing and finishing them. Then firing 2 or 3 times up to 1500 degrees. Each lady has her own special job to do! I though that was so neat. As to the Williamsburg Pottery, I see lots of it since I live in Virginia ... Some goes for quite a bit and others sell really cheaply. I would think that it would do better on Etsy, but I only sell on eBay!!

    I have a sterling silver mourning hair broach that belonged to my hubbie's mom, that was passed down from his 2nd grt. grandma. It was not her hair, but that of a friends that passed away, and it was beautifully done under thick beveled glass, surrounded by seed pearls. Thanks for sharing the information about the hair saver Sue, it will no doubt be very helpful to those interested in Victorian era decor.
    I got to laughing so hard at the pink fluffy lampshade, but not just because you two were having such fun with it. There was a fellow in the background about 19:45 or thereabouts who just happened to be lined up in such a way that he looked like he was wearing a pair of the huge summer shorts hanging on the rack. The more I saw of him the more he was lined up until he looked like he was wearing a pair of, "Dutchman's Breeches", over his jeans. I don't know why it hit my funny bone so hard, but it did and I could hardly stop laughing. You two just made my day and now I am off with my hubby to go to the community yard sales. Wish me luck! ha ha ha Have a delicious day!

    Hair receivers also collected hair for hair rats. I don't think that hair collected by comb or brush would be very useful for hair jewelry. They would likely want to use locks of hair that were clipped and kept neat, especially easy to get for memorial jewelry as dead people dont generally object to the odd bald patch. :p Hair rats (pads of hair used to bulk out the big hairstyles of the day) would be the perfect use for hair from brushes and combs as the more bunchy and gnarled the collected hairs, the better. :) Hair rats were used for many many years and even now people will sometimes use them, so that would explain the widespread need for and use of receivers...hair jewelry was more artisanal and niche.

    The lidless teapot is supposed to be filled from the bottom. It has a tube inside that runs to a space under the top so can be used without spilling when turned right side up. The Chinese used these for wine or hot water, and you can find them with the name "Cadogan tea pots" on Google. They were not used to steep tea.

    If I had an unlimited budget, I would have so many sweet little ceramic pieces for display in my home. I love them and I love watching the two of you teach us about the different styles, etc! Thank you!

    Love you two! Years ago on a vacation we toured a beautiful old home in Mobile, Alabama. There was one bedroom that had quite a few hair craft items. One of them was a framed picture of beautiful flowers and leaves. From a distance it looked like a painting. They had the bedrooms roped off. But I asked the tour guide if he could let us see it closer. He took it off the wall and brought it over. It was stunningly beautiful.

    I remember giving one of those rose swans to my Mom when I was little, she still uses it for her wedding ring when she does the dishes. It makes my heart soar to see those.

    Sue those egg cups run your finger up the throwing rings if it’s made from a master which is then moulded both will feel the same, if they are all production thrown by a Potter individually they will feel slightly different but not by much they looked handmade to me and the pottery name gives that impression as does the bottoms where the have been cut off the wheel or the hump, hump throwing means pieces are thrown from the top of a bigger piece of clay just in case you didn’t know. It’s crazy insane to watch a production potter throw mugs egg cups etc they are uniformly the same every single time that jug you found was fab I would have brought that myself. We have a fabulous pottery here in aylesford kent uk it’s the only thrown production pottery left in the U.K. they are crazy skilled master potters look them up if you can. You have amazing handmade stuff in your thrift stores that I have seen I would be loaded down coming out lol

Sold mom and 2 babies for decent money. Sold 2 babies together and got to have one for me! You are so funny with your ceramic cats. Lol. Hugs to Sue.

    Oh my gosh, Salt Marsh Pottery, my friends. They stopped making the plants pressed pottery when The Christmas Tree Shop started duplicating local crafts shops' work and manufacturing it in China. Now they just do celebration pottery: plaques with baby feet, wedding bouquets, etc.

    I love vintage but cute is cute, vintage or modern. That one piece can be put over a tea light candle. I think Sue needs that pink shade as a hat.
