I am so happy you used your platform to bring attention to people with disabilities. Whether they have physical disabilities, mental illness or are Neurodivergent...
There is so much ableism in society and this group faces difficulties on the daily.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that you spoke on this topic and provided some important education.

One of our granddaughters was born with lissecephaly, microcephally and CP..she was not supposed to live 24 hours ...here we are chasing her around almost 7 years later 😄 God is good, He created our beautiful granddaughter with THE purest soul of any human I know (even when she bites me..her new thing). Your daughter is likely right next to her. People that don't share their lives with these chosen ones can never fully understand the pure soul thing.

i am from the Land of Lincoln. The disabled workers were allowed to stay and the head of Goodwill stepped down. Her salary was $164,000. Residents were furious. Rant away let everyone know.

Georgeanne Kestner I’ve been on a journey to make people more aware of how Goodwill has changed, for the worst, over the years.
I have a plethora of thrift stores in my area so I avoid Goodwill. Furthermore, their pricing themselves out of business.

We own a thrift store and purchase most of our wares. It's about 85/15. We do get some donations. Our prices are lower than Goodwill and we have people who complain that they are high even though the big boys charge way more than us and all their merchandise that they get is FREE. A percentage of profits go to New Hope for Kids and believe me it's more than 2 percent which is what the other store contributes. I don't get it. I really don't. I wish someone could tell me why people will frequent their store and not mine. We are so well organized and we don't have that weird stench. Nothing is put out dirty. Check us out on Facebook and you can tell me. We are called In The Pink Thrift in Melbourne Fl. Thanks.

Thank you ladies for speaking up for the disabled workers in Land of Lincoln, IL Goodwill. I am appalled by the thoughtless and atrocious actions of that particular Goodwill. I am a Special Needs Job Coach for Virginia Beach City Public Schools. We are so proud to have a work experience program for our special needs high school students. My job is to work with them in the workplace and teach them skills to use when they graduate and are seeking employment. These students are very valuable and have a lot to offer! It just infuriates me to think someone would lessen their worth and try to cut their pay!!! Obviously this person in Land of Lincoln is just a pencil pusher and has no clue that these special people are human too!! They have their place in the workforce! How dare she minimize them! 😠

Oh my gosh! My heart was breaking bc of what they were doing in Illinois!! So glad she resigned! But this just brings more awareness that you hope that all Goodwill's are doing what they ate suppose to. I know at my Goodwill's they have been really upping their prices and I don't know if this is from the economy standpoint or what but I hope that it's helping those in need.
I love your platform Joclyn! All those doggies! I couldn't separate from them. I would have to make a whole bookshelf to display those! Love!!!💖💖

I live in Land of Lincoln and was so angry and SHOCKED 2 weeks ago at that initial report of the plans for Land of Lincoln to DISCONTINUE (basically fire) the disabled worker vocational training program in our area. Yes, made my blood boil. I donate more than buy, with a willing heart because I support their mission. What a slap in the face, when "I" support their mission more than "they" do? At the same time I heard the report, I knew that she would be GONE asap. They say she resigned, I know she was fired. So glad that got nipped in the bud quickly, but the spotlight shined on that horrible situation is well deserved.

Too Bad!! The rest of us had a right to have our loved ones & our children and potential grandchildren. It's not OK for Criminals & Batshit crazy people to live out their fantasy & in the meantime we mourn the dead and search for the missing. We asked for the criminals and batshit crazy people who are living nice lives using our dead & missing loved ones name's & associated fraudulent identity to be locked up & have the Key thrown away, but it was too much to ask from the Country we worked for. For example, Aunt Snookie is dead and never lived in Florida or Lake Zurich Illinois USA. What do you not get?? The Victims dead and we asked for the people responsible to be locked up so they can't hurt anyone else

I live in the wonderful Land of Lincoln, just outside of Chicago. I'm not sure if you will even have the chance to read this, but I think it will enrage you. I live in in the city of Plainfield, exactly. I have a disabled son and talked to the manager of the store regarding getting him a job in the store part for about 12 hours or son. One of his Downs Syndrome friend works there. The manager in so many words basically told me that they already had their token disabled person working in the store. Ughhh! I wanted to slap her!

Thanks for sticking up for those who need it.

Talk about timely, your discussion on what occurred at the Land of Lincoln Goodwill hit me like a ton of bricks. A son of a friend had surgery a couple of years ago to remove a brain tumor. While in surgery, he had a stroke which caused brain damage. He turned 18 last week. Before the surgery, he was college bound. He graduate this year, but rather than a diploma, he received a Certificate of Completion. He was supposed to be college bound this fall, but I was told yesterday that he is going to Goodwill in our area next week for evaluation for job placement. I’m with Sue on the destination of that Durban woman.

I used to work for Goodwill and the management was terrible. One day randomly I was called to the back and fired. And when I applied for unemployment the manager lied about so many things. I even asked one of my coworkers if he thought what she said about me was true and he said absolutely not. 🤷 This company needs to step it up. They make profit on crap people give them for FREE and a lot of their locations are filthy and unkept and their employees are underpaid. It's ridiculous.

Thank you for addressing the Goodwill issue... my Region did that *very quietly* about 5 years ago, a few Parents of Challenged Workers took action but it was not in the News. I just asked where are all my fav workers? and where & why did you hire all these new people that seem very grumpy and unfulfilled about working at a Thrift Store???? The employee turnover has been insane since the quiet revamping. I heard a *rumour opinion* that Goodwill is trying to attract more of the "General Public" with media campaigns and new shiny stores and some of the "Challenged Workers" were a turn-off and hinderance.

I'm glad you put that in your video about Sharon Durbin. I actually hadn't heard about that. Unreal. Wow. Great job ladies. Hope to see you one day in Community Aid or Goodwill. I live in Cumberland Md and one of my daughters and I look forward to shopping the thrifts in Hanover.

Thank you so much for your video's, they cheer me up no end. I applaud your decision to rant! I find this woman and her attitude far too typical of some people, who get into places of power, whose lives have always been easy, whose hearts are colder than an iceberg in the arctic. These types of people have no compassion, no moral compass, and wouldn't know how to be a truly kind person if their lives depended on it. I am glad you called her out, I am so grateful for your proper stance. It sickens me that it took public outcry for this decision to be reversed. People with disabilities don't chose to be like this, and it is a measure of our society how we treat them. If we are not kind, if we are instead selfish and cruel, how can we call ourselves human?! I do not know if a similar policy was slipped in under the table in our area, but I can say I have not seen a disabled or special needs person working in our GW for a very long time. I see minorities and senior citizens, but no one with disabilities. Also all of the special needs persons I used to see at Walmart as greeters have also gone. Even the old fellow that used to hand you a cart has gone. I think this is a cold hearted corporate decision that too many companies are implementing because they are more concerned about their profit margins than helping the disabled.
Thanks once again for letting us know about this. If it was up to me, a good old fashioned tarring and feathering would be in order, not just her losing her job, but we have moved forward from that type of barbarism, and must now rely on public shaming. It may not be as drastic, but it does sometimes get results. Bravo ladies, Bravo!
I think we shall have to start calling you the, "Crazy Dog Lady", after this tho girlfriend. I haven't see that many dogs in one place since going to a dog show. ha ha ha

I always finds myself drawn to TH-camrs who are good-hearted and you're definitely that!
Btw, i think you need a stamp that you can put over the "lamp" in your name to reflect the day's craziness. Today you'd be Crazy Dog Lady. You know, like a sold stamp placed over an item description so you can still see what's underneath. 😊

Bravo for "ranting" about the Land of Lincoln Goodwill. Maybe an investigative reporting team needs to check out Goodwills in different states. Why do their executives make so much money in comparison with their workers?
Good for you for saving basset hounds for the basset hound rescue lady!
Have a wonderful week! Enjoy all your goodies!
    Hugs for you both! Dianna

So bankrupt. I live in Indiana and drive to Illinois for work, I have to pay state taxes in both states but I also have to pay taxes to the city I work in. Even the people who live in the city have to get city sticker to park their vehicles on the streets over night. So if your house has no drive way or garage you better have that sticker.
I love Illinois, was born there but I can’t afford property taxes there. Getting to know and love Indiana.

I lived in Illinois my entire life and I finally had the opportunity to move. I am so happy that I was able to and now my son is on his way out. This Goodwill was in Springfield and the town I moved from. So much corruption, and I am talking decades of it, in that town and the state. It is so sad because the state itself is beautiful and the citizens are nice.

Hiya Jocelyn & Sue, that’s absolutely unacceptable to lower salaries for disabled people who are already getting lower salaries than their other employees! I’m glad she resigned, hope someone w/ empathy & sense replaces her. Not sure if I mentioned this before- I was headhunted for a local Goodwill because of my knowledge of vintage/antique as I knew the mgr & her husband. (They’ve since closed down-GOOD- as they pulled “bait & switch” every time you went up to pay; at least ½ dozen stickers on an item & they’d say they were switched! You both know how hard it is to get those stickers off, let alone ½ a dozen? I’m stupidly, brutally honest, this was a slap in my face; not to mention how much time would it take to switch tags, an employee would see you doing it!) I wanted P/T. After reading the info, I declined. They’re using the same tactics as Walmart (where we don’t shop in solidarity w/ the workers). P/T workers *must* do all of the following: work ½-1 hour below what’s considered F/T so they don’t have to pay benefits; any talk of unionisation you’re out; you *must* work weekends & holidays; you *must* work at least 2 double shifts every week- all for min wage. They did exactly what Walmart did, lured people w/ low prices forcing the little charity shops out; once that happened prices went up. Went last week, prices have been raised yet again for garbage (shoes & handbags *start* at $9.99, most shouldn’t have been on the shelf they had no life left in them)! I grabbed a few things as I had a credit, I’m stuck w/ another credit under $5 fo r which there’s next to nothing to purchase. If I can, I’ll send to you guys. Not sure as we have the “discount” card here & you might need to use the card to use the credit. I’m beyond disgusted w/ them. They’re registered as a charity, but if you look at any of the charity watchdog sites, *maybe* 10% goes to their community work. Most of the rest goes to 6 figure CEO salaries, some to advertising. They’re most certainly *for* profit, get free donations, then price too high. People who need to shop secondhand do better at chain stores. Not good for the environment, nor the needy. If I had bins nearby, I’d shop there at least you can save things from landfills at a reasonable price. Oh the other important thing: counterfeit goods. It’s illegal in the US to sell or buy counterfeit goods. How they’re getting away w/ it I’ve no clue, but really want to investigate. If you buy an item they swear is legit, get it authenticated & it’s counterfeit, they will not accept the return. How smarmy is that? I’m glad yours haven’t gone insane, but don’t be surprised when they do. Love all the adorable things you got! Have a lovely day! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️ PS sorry for my rant, I’m just stunned they raised prices again, and the horrible effects on our landfills this creates.

Oh my goodness, I’m am a bit emotional right now. I am the parent of a special needs son and that story hit me. Thank you bringing to our attention! That is what these stores were started to do... help those with special needs and now they wanted to change that? It is a shame that they can’t see the issue and it took public outcry for them to change their decision.
I have been watching your videos and love the finds and the interactions with Sue and Drew and all those around you. I may be trying this in the near future.

Thank you for sharing this info on IL Goodwill. My sister and I shop our area Goodwills in the upstate of SC and we have noticed fewer and fewer disabled employees in the stores. We discussed this just last week. I’m sharing the article far and wide so everyone can keep an eye out for what’s going on with Goodwill. And while we’re at it, I m hating they are picking the donations before stocking shelves to put on their online auction site. Makes for slim pickings’. That’s my rant. Off to the thrift stores!

Two of my adult kids work for a disability employer and at times it amazes me how poorly the workers are treated. The people in the top positions appear to lose focus of what their role is and that is supporting and training adults with special needs. Generally my kids are happy there but we have often had to step in to stand up for their basic work rights. Thanks Jocelyn and Sue for caring for people like my kids.

she also took a significant part or the budget increase for them and it went into giving herself a raise,]........ from one local paper "Legislators also took umbrage with Durbin’s salary, which was $164,849 in the fiscal year ending in June 2018, according to federal 990 forms. Durbin’s son, Brian, was hired onto the company’s executive leadership team at a salary of $95,747, WCIA reported.
Manar’s office said tax records show Land of Lincoln Goodwill raised executive compensation for two positions during the height of the state budget impasse by $86,155 over three years.
