  • Today I pour out all of my available knowledge on radio installs, using the S10 as an example. We discuss some specific hurdles with the s10 and give some general good advice for most stereo installs. If you are wondering about the music I use, check out Jaxius' Channel / jaxius

    Thanks for sharing this video. Glad you did as well since it's been about 28 years since I did this to a friend's S10, and now my son has one, and we're pondering his. I'd completely forgotten how shallow the opening is for the head unit, and that changes my plans a fair bit for my son's. HA! You saved my bacon on this one!

      I’m so glad I can help! There are a few head units out there that could fit. Usually ones without CD players. It would be best to measure it out before you buy if possible

    On my s10s for the air box behind the radio I would heat it up with a heat gun and form it back to give more clearance around the back of the radio

      @@akfo7691 I’m sorry to hear that. Your 91 extended should be the same wiring as mine as long as you had the same factory radio that I had. It looks scary but as long as you take your time, unplug power and follow the same steps in my video you should be good to go

    they make a harness for the new add-on raidos, so that the original harness can stayput.
    in order to get the correct one, you have to make certain that it is the correct one.
    lol, i dont like removing OEM when i do not have to.
    i let alot of radios stay put because of that.
    cool vid tho.

      @@deborahcuster8142 Thanks for your input. I’ve had bad luck with those harnesses, especially since they require the 30 year old connectors be in good shape. I’ve had cars where the connectors were melted, corroded, or just fell apart when disconnecting. So I prefer to splice in the aftermarket harness. I could have bought the harness in my case, but the point of this video was to help someone who didn’t have access to it or didn’t want to spend the extra money on it

    Wow that's crazy. You don't see an s10 with the factory uncut stereo harness often. Fyi don't do this its the wrong way but the adapter.

    • @brokeboycustom7655
      @brokeboycustom7655  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I’m hearing in my comments, they don’t make the adapter anymore, so this may be many peoples only option. Unless the truck is super clean with low miles, it’s probably not worth a whole lot of money anyways. As long as you make clean connections and make sure they are air tight, there is nothing wrong with cutting the harness

    Thanks man! Can I ask why you disconnected the battery before removing the factory cassette player?

    • @brokeboycustom7655

      It’s all for safety. One time I didn’t and I burned out someone’s dash lights. In a car, every piece of metal is grounded. Having loose power wires can make fuses blow, melt wires, and short computers

      @brokeboycustom7655  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Check if your radio has both a main power and a switched power. Some don’t have the switched power. If it doesn’t then wire your main with an extra switch to turn it off so you don’t drain your battery

    .. and ladies! I'm a lady with a 95 S10 that I pulled the factory radio out of in order to install a new one with Bluetooth and I'm trying to see how to hook it up.

      There are a few options. Some people have been able to find a plug and play kit. If you can find one, it really makes the job a whole lot easier

    Thank u for explaining the wiring, I normally don’t have issues hooking up the radio but never done on a 93 s10. It’s my truck so I’m gonna remove the connectors I guess. How do I hook up box speakers to the current wiring that is there?

    • @brokeboycustom7655
      @brokeboycustom7655  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can always go off of the wiring on the speakers. But if you mean a subwoofer I am planning a future video on a full install on one
