The 4.3 liter was same size as a 350, just missing two cylinders. However, I never knew they offered a diesel. Back then 80s and some of 90's) 0-60 in ten seconds was fast and normal. It was also a selling point. So anything that could do that or faster was on fire.
@@keirangreen7004 no, it wasn't the same as a buick regal, and the Pontiac G8 was a rebadged Commodore that was converted to left-hand drive and brought to the US. So was the Pontiac GTO of the mid 2000's, and the Chevy SS. All of those were originally Commodores.

Hi, I bought a 1983 chevy s10 pickup about 6 months ago. The original owner, a farmer and mechanic, ordered it from the factory in 1982. He had 3 trucks, and used this one for going into town.. when he died, his daughter inherited it..she gave it to her son in the last year of high school. He blew the head gasket. They had just repainted it, put new tires on it and re-did the exhaust system. Its gorgeous, silver w an aluminum tool box on the bed. Best of all, it only has 69,004 original miles on it ! Once the head gasket is repaired and the carburetor.. I am going to sell it. I am in Charlotte NC. How do o go about getting the best price ? Thank you..haven't done it before and hoping for some advice.
Curtis Mcquiston super fuckin cool that even after the first time, you didn’t give up. Hope it’s up and running man. Picked up a 1983 S10 Tahoe It’s an auto trans, but the deal was so fuckin good for how clean and low miles it is I couldn’t pass it up.
Great episode. Very edutaining. I had an s15 back in the 90s with a massive propane tank and a 2.6L v6 that drank oil like Amy wine house drank "beverages". Dude who sold it to me was an ex semi truck driver and had some old leaf springs installed that made the thing ridiculous. I could take a full two yards of dirt. And it had a lo final drive reduction gear too, so it was shit on the highways, but badass for hauling. Awesome little beater truck. Still remember when my dad took it down to buy some dirt and they said it would probably only take half a yard. He put in half a yard and the back end dropped about half an inch. The guy dumping dirt did a Keanu "woah" and put the full yard in. Maybe an inch and a half drop. So he threw another yard on there and it brought it down to normal "ass height". For an s10. Hahaha. Turns out they used a full on half ton chassis for the truck, so the chassis was just fine with a little pressure.
I had a 1993 S10 4.3L and I loved that thing! I towed an enclosed trailer when I moved packed full, no problem. But it could still keep up with most modern V6's.
My first ever truck was a Chevy S10, and at the time when I bought it I wasn't too fond of Chevrolet or GM for that matter. But after about a year that little truck changed my mind completely!
Loved my 95 s-10 extended cab with the jump seats in the back that I had from going into my jr. year of high school in 2005-2006 up until early 2011 when I regretfully sold it. 2 wheel drive with the 4.3. Was always kind of fun seeing the friends that didn't call shotgun get pissed about having to climb into the jump seats. Still to this day I still have a soft spot for s10s/Sonomas and if I had the extra money I'd gladly pick up one for a project.
Me too man I have a soft spot for em I had a 99 that got a v8 swap from previous owner had a 5.3 thing was so badass blew the motor and rebuilt it and grenaded the rear end an tranny n couldn’t afford to fix it sadly but always loved the lil mini trucks even the ranger but s-10’s have a certain niche to them that just hits the brain so we’ll😭😭😭😭
I’ve had my 03 s10 for 5 months already and it’s amazing! I got it with 85,000 miles on it and the paint job looks amazing! I get a lot of compliments lol.
I bought a 98 s10 a year ago. I was just going to resell it and buy a 4-banger 4x4. It's grown on me. Now I'm building it. Just happens my buddy has a 98 Sonoma with a blown motor the exact color as mine.
except that comparison doesn't make sense due to the fact that s10 was made first, they also look nothing alike, and you can still buy them anywhere new or used... however the older ones are getting harder to find or there buckets
Another fun fact about the S10 Chassis use: The original design lifespan of the Grumman LLV specified by the U.S. Postal Service was 24 years, but in 2009 this was extended to thirty years. The body and final assembly is by Grumman, and the chassis (based on the 1982 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer) is made by General Motors, with the powerplant (2.5L I-4 TBI "Iron Duke" and, in later production, General Motors 2.2L I-4 iron block/aluminum head engine), instrument cluster and front suspension similar to those used in the Chevrolet S-10 pickup and S-10 Blazer sport utility vehicle. Yep them ugly post office trucks running around are S10's Approximately 140,000 LLVs are in the USPS delivery fleet. Love you James!!!!

@@Chente-27 If you can't find a good Extreme you can just buy a 4.3L and put a 3.42 or 3.73 rear axle in it, buy a speedo recalibration module to fix the speedometer. The extreme has the same engine as any other. The extreme came with the 2.2L also. It's a pretty good engine but they're pretty slow. I had a 95 with the 2.2L and the head cracked twice. I think GM fixed the head cracking issue in 97. If you read my thread near the top I left a list of all the stuff I did to mine. I have spent some coin on it,but I really don't care because I'm probably never going to sell it. Buy one with good paint if you buy one and one that doesn't make any weird engine ticking noises. Sometimes the lifters are bad other times it's the timing chain. The 4.3L can last a long time if you keep the oil changed.
Sergio González Torres the story is simple. All these are rebadged Japanese trucks. Ford Ranger = Mazda B series Chevy S10 = Isuzu hombre/ Dmax Dodge Ram 50 = Mitsubishi L200 That’s it. Some of them used v6 American engines for the domestic Market but the basic and good ones used the Jap 4 bangers.
Let's not discuss Rams. They're not doing so hot in the legend department anymore (Quality of mechanic components has dropped while a focus on interior as arrived with a greatly raised price point.)
Eulogy they can talk about them just like they talked about the new Jeep Cherokee. They simply should ignore these and instead talk about the original models. Idk, maybe from the start of the Dodge D and W series pickups and later the creation of the model Ram to the V-10 monster ram to all the times they been used for competitions. It could make an interesting video, but they should omit the new rams. They are no longer what a ram should be.
I've had 8 of them through out my life if you count the GMC S15's as the same. I have always regretted getting rid of the first one I owned, probably why I keep buying them. It was my Grandpa's first 84' single cab with a 2.8l V-6 and the bed was 8' 2'' inside to inside 5 speed manual trans.
They still pretty bad ass. Like 500$ worth of fuel system upgrades, a 20g, and something to tune you can push north of 400 tire. Its enough to make most people shit themselves.
I've had my 1995 s10 since 2004 Already have put 250000 miles to transmissions its one strong little truck next time this motor messes up LS is going in 🤘

I used to have a '74 Luv. I loved it! (pun not intended) It did the job well and was really fun to drive. It's now with one of my relatives with his green '84 Trooper.
ive had 6 s10s. 2 were iron dukes, one with the 4 speed manual. i had a 2.2l 5 speed and a 4.3l 4l60e. and then there was her. the 1994 chevy s10 with a first gen tbi 4.3l and an nv3500 5 speed manual. the 94 5 speed 4.3l was hands down the best truck out of all of them, even counting the fact the other 4.3l truck was 4x4 with a 3.73. the 94 manual truck with under 2000 of engine upgrades, the trans being built, and the upgrade from the 3.08 to a 3.42 locker meant i was dusting things with stock-ish small block swaps, small turbo build honda with maybe 330hp, and a cammed 2002 ls1 camaro with a six speed. the truck continued to make it to 199,000 miles before i parked it with a blown trans, my only major repair that i ever needed. i cant tell you how hard i abused that thing, but it made it through 6 long, hard, domestic violence style years of abuse, i stopped counting the amount of burnouts i did with the thing after it was finished and driving let alone before the trans and rear end. all while getting 16mpg city and 27 highway. if you can pick up a 2nd gen s10 94-96 with the tbi 4.3l in it, paired to the nv3500 5 speed, i promise the truck wont let you down. ive owned crown vics, ive owned toyotas, ive owned a honda civic, and even a 4.9l 5 speed f150. that 94 s10 was still the best all around vehicle ive ever owned, counting reliability, fun, comfort, and price.
I'm pretty sure there was one here in Oregon on Craigslist about 6 months ago they said it ran when they parked it if it is 1 I don't think they know what they have

The 60 degree V6 is still my all time favorite engine. I have a 4.3L in my Sonoma, but man do I miss that old 2.8L in the S15, so easy to tune, easy to work on, and great weight to torque ratio.
I got my grandpas 1996 s10 after he lost a short battle to cancer in april earlier this year, it was in a little bit of a bad state due to never being in a garage for its whole life, one day the ground wire shorted out and it was in the shop for about a month then we got it back. We did some basic repairs and mantienence and then got the paint, trim, front grill, and all exterior lights restrored and replaced. It looks amazing now. I love that car man, I just wish i had grandpa driving it with me in the passenger.
Of all my old cars, I really miss my '85 S-10 the most. It looked just like the one behind him, but it was an extended cab. I don't really fit into the regular cab versions. I'll have another one day...with a V8!
They are Great Trucks. I started my Landscaping Co. with my 91 Chevy S-10 4.3 V6. It has pulled some weight. I just recently bought a 93 GMC Sonoma that's been lowered and has rims. Good deal. I use it for parts
I sold my 93 S10 for $150. It had 552 000 km on , still ran, but barely. My buddy bought it for parts gor his low rider S10 project. That truck served me like a loyal old dog. I changed the fluids regularly, never let it sit. Loved that truck.
I've owned two S-10's first was a 1991 and the one I still have is a 2 wheel drive with body kit and mags. With the 2.5 "Iron duke" 2.5. 5 speed. It isn't that bad. Pretty quick and dual exhaust with glass packs it doesn't sound bad either.

The 4.3 liter was same size as a 350, just missing two cylinders. However, I never knew they offered a diesel. Back then 80s and some of 90's) 0-60 in ten seconds was fast and normal. It was also a selling point. So anything that could do that or faster was on fire.

Picked up a 1983 S10 Tahoe
It’s an auto trans, but the deal was so fuckin good for how clean and low miles it is I couldn’t pass it up.
I love how you guy's manage to find a video on almost every car you do an up to speed episode about jumping something.

I remember seeing plenty of those square body S10s, as a kid. And the beginning of the newer round front end S10s.
I learned all this at the Mail Museum in DC last fall, thought it would be super boring but it was hella interesting.
And most have 500k+ miles on them.
I can testify that the LLVs (long live vehicles) are almost bulletproof.

It’s not bad at all
@@Chente-27 If you can't find a good Extreme you can just buy a 4.3L and put a 3.42 or 3.73 rear axle in it, buy a speedo recalibration module to fix the speedometer.
@@tmr8193 Is that with the original engine tho?
Exact same ride here man, still going strong!
So... why not cover the Ford Ranger, Nissan Hardbody, and the whole bunch of Dodge Rams next? They could make good videos
Sergio González Torres the story is simple. All these are rebadged Japanese trucks.
Ford Ranger = Mazda B series
Chevy S10 = Isuzu hombre/ Dmax
Dodge Ram 50 = Mitsubishi L200
That’s it.
They are no longer what a ram should be.

ive had 6 s10s.
