I don't know why they spent years and hundreds of thousands of hours on making a great game when they don't even bother making content for it. I'm sure most people who played the game would come back if there was a single player dlc but we're never going to get that stuff anymore as long as people can buy shark cards and gold bars

It’s not like GTA online took any effort to be a cash cow so it makes sense rockstar didn’t support Red dead in the slightest if you look at GTA online it is one of the worst managed games ever made their are thousands of hackers every where, awful AI, an awful inventory menu that has almost a hundred different inputs, dog ass mission design that is essentially “go here pick up thing with zero dialogue or story and bring it back, then do this 6 times and then you get to do a good version of this mission with actual dialogue and story”, awful tutorial that explains absolutely nothing, and the worst economy in a game where a stun gun is $500,000.

When RDO was new, it was a blast - I took the time to create a character who looked just like me, my siblings and cousin did the same, and a few times a week, we got together in our gang and rode around for a few hours at a time having way too much fun. Every session we had some insane moment that we'd talk about until the next time we got online - some stupid trick someone pulled during a mission, some one in a million shot one of us pulled, etc. - and sometimes we just got online and peacefully rode together, hunted, and talked, catching up about our lives in a gorgeous setting. We're all adults who live on opposite sides of the country and we only see each other in person once or twice a year, so I can genuinely say the game brought us closer together as a family. But...trying to dive deeper into anything RDO offered was pointless. Solo play online ruined it for me - logging on alone to make some extra money and I'm getting shot in the head by some OP player who bought all their shit with real money, or some hacker is messing with me, or what little money I have in-game can only buy the stupidest-looking clothing devised by man, which adds insult to injury bc I spent so much time on the facial design - surprise, my Mona Lisa of character creation can only wear clown clothes. I gave up like most everybody else. They really had something special and they just...abandoned it like a joke.

I loved the online mode. To me, it's the ultimate western immersion simulator. I played it low and slow, and really enjoyed building up my character. It's a shame that RDR2 Online was simply treated like western GTA Online, because it could have been something really special. We could have become ranch hands, own stables, farms, and built houses. We could have become livestock traiders or decided to simply steal livestock. We could have had an option to be good or evil, an honest rancher or evil outlaw. So much potential. So many chances for a great immersive experience on par with the single player. It's a shame they abandoned it, and it's a shame that they didn't play to RDR2's gameplay strengths.

I had disconnected mid journey and lost all the materials I worked for, (animals were rare to run into aswell) so I messaged support to see if I can get my materials back, or atleast 500 in-game dollars to try and make back what I had lost. Idk who tf working there did this big mistake, but I'm forever grateful to them for these- they had repaid me the 500, but not with the in-game dollars, they gave me 500 GOLD BARS. - Buyable (and modifiable to a degree) Properties
    - Bank 🏦 and Train 🚂 Robberies that are structured somewhat like GTAO heists
    - A couple more roles such as Rancher, Fight Club, Outlaw, ECT.
    - Add more cosmetics to the store (even stuff that's already in the game like the Nevada Hat or the Rodeo Hat they could simply add in stores)
    - Bring back the outlaw pass in the process

The 2 biggest issues with RD2O was the lack of exclusivity of roles and how they decided to solve the player to player issues. You don't solve a multiplayer issue by introducing systems that enforce solitude and reducing interactions with other players. You do it by giving different venues of interaction, which they had a perfect foundation with the roles. How these roles don't focus more on player interaction is beyond me. The lure of being a bounty hunter is ultimately to hunt other players, not NPCs. Bounty hunter would have been the anti griefer role. To handle griefers, give them an outlaw role where you can control their expression by channeling their actions towards gameplay rather than personal attacks because they are bored. How traders can't buy, sell or exchange items with other players is also beyond me. They should have had much more exclusivity with regards to characters and roles. Its great that each role has special and unique abilities and items, but because you can be all roles at the same time it doesn't quite matter. They should have had one major role per character, like the trader and have that expand into moonshining, or the naturalist expanding into ranching. This along with foucussing on player interaction through the roles would make for a never ending interesting experience.
Picture a scenario where the naturalist who has access to special hunting abilities and tools, gets pelts and trades with the trader, who has the special skill to turn these resources into goods and can sell different items to players and in game stores. And outlaws who have special abilities like to hold people up and gadgets to intercept these goods while in transit. This role can expand into collector, which should just be robberies/bulgrary. The bounty hunter should be able to get hired as a bodyguard for these trading trips and can collect bounties on the most infamous outlaws.
Honestly such an ecosystem would generate endless opportunities for fun. Griefers would have a more meaningful way of interacting with others while anti griefers are now incentivised. Those who like to keep to themselves and just hunt and maybe run a ranch would be naturalists while those who look primarily for profit would be traders who can expand into even owning some of the stores and hotels where other players can come and trade or hang out. This would be amazing also because you could have different characters for these different roles as we all know sometimes you wanna be an outlaw other times the moral hero with no name. Sometimes you want to just hunt and other times you wanna make some money. So just switch characters.
Once Rstar began to implement systems that focused more on isolation to deal with griefers rather than incentivising interactions through defined and satisfying gameplay mechanics, the game began to die. Honestly if i wanted to play solo and not interact with anyone, then theres offline.

You nailed a very important point. Players like me who mainly play solo have absolutely nothing to gain with engaging other players, particularly posses, because the majority of the time they just want to troll you with no consequences. If you could put a bounty on their heads, for instance, that would attract other players in the lobby then that could at least even the playing field a little. As it stands, if a posse of three decides to troll you, you just don't have a chance. What, you can add 2 cents to their bounty? Give me a break. There should have been a mechanism to report your intentions, for instance. If a player indicates they want to help on a mission and it makes you impervious to their assault, then you'd have an incentive to interact. For those who want random PVP they could always accept the hostile challenge of a random player. Etc.

@@tekharthazenyatta2310 Exactly!! . In fact what they did by isolating the players just made griefing worse. Because now when you get briefed by a posse , it’s in isolation, and there’s enough of them to track you down. It just gets personal and ugly because there isn’t any incentive.
I’ve been playing the game since it came out non stop and online as well so I interacted and was part of plenty of posses, some were so toxic that one of them would go and instigate some shit then cry wolf to their posse members and that would now justify a whole personal raid on you for the next like hour. You deplete your resources regardless of who wins the fight and you gain nothing at all apart from bragging rights and some xp I guess. This would happen a lot. I also remember one of the best times was when you could hear from further and see people from anywhere on the map. Me and a random dude heard a kid getting griefed by some teens over in valentine, back when that was the griefer hub, the kid couldn’t be older than 10. The random asked if I wanted to go help and me and him quickly rushed in all the way from Emeralds and went and destroyed those fools. By the end we had the teens apologizing to the kid. We also told the kid to maybe leave town and we will escort him some place. I remember the teens being so afraid , but it wasn’t that sort of toxic fear that comes from being griefed, to them it felt like they triggered something and the law was after them. It was an immersive kind of fear. That was one of the best experiences I ever had. Heck even just the ride from emerald to valentine made me feel like I’m playing that infamous Valentine bank heist in story mode. Imagine now if that was incentivized with roles.

They would need to make the roles better and interesting and the best and simplest way is to optimize them for role playing player interactions as a focus with some NPC interactions for those who just want to do solo. Right now the only role that feels like it has a lot to do is trader. I would say, keep the roles exclusive then allow for a switch of characters like from camp.

I feel this review is a bit unfair with the question of the weapons. The beginner weapons aren't strictly inferior to the one you get later on (with the exceptions of bullshit explosive ammos).
This is because the game is heavily biased towards headshots. Even using the Bolt Action Rifle with Express round, you will need multiple shot to kill any NPC in the body, usually 3. Because of the bolt nature of the rifle you usually would have the time to shoot 6 times with the basic repeater which probably would have overall a similar dps on body shots, with the bolt action Rifle having the avantage of the range.
This is why the Varmint Rifle was actually during a time the most overpowered gun in the game thanks to it's insane rate of fire and ammo pool which turned it into a headshot machine.
So albeit you have a few outliners here such as the Rolling Block rifle being able to one shot in body shit with a very specific card build or the previously mentionned explosive ammos, the guns are actually quite balanced

Played RDO for a long time, stopped playing not because it's bad, just i was burned out from it. Honestly, I know many will disagree with me, but i think that what's already there in the game is actually pretty decent. I've had fun with many of the aspects the game has to offer, and I know many people as well had the same experience as me. Not many games retains for years thousands of players with hundreds of hours.
However, one of the main issues with what led to the downfall of RDO and players giving up on this game was long before december 2021. With each update that came in, there would always be this feeling that R* could've done much more. For example, with the Bounty Hunter expansion in 2020, a lot of players, including myself, enjoyed a ton the new missions that came with the update, but once you finish doing the missions you end up wondering, "is that everything this update brought?". Even if the new updates wasn't what people were asking, you could see that many players actually enjoyed it. I don't why this happened, there was probably a small team behind RDO and they barely got resources to produce bigger updates, maybe.
And don't come at me with the argument that RDO wasn't profitable. RDR 2 alone sells at least 1 million copies every quarter, and you'd be surprised at how many people buy gold bars. Sure, GTAO is probably the most profitable piece of entertainment of all time, but RDO still was a decent source of revenue. The main problem with RDO is that it never was GTAO

I get all this. I absolutely loved my time with RDO. What I hated was how, and I’m not sure if I’m wording this right - unnecessarily grindy they made certain things feel. For example, the trader role. Hunting can be fun, but it’s made unnecessarily grindy from two aspects. First, getting 3 start pelts was the only way to supply your camp, yet it’s so easy to accidentally knock a 3 start down in grade. Second, we dealt with poor animal spawns for SO long….
Bounties we’re fun and the only true way to earn gold besides the daily challenges, but the payout system was ridiculous with how they incentivized you to take longer with finishing missions. The moonshiner role was fun but they forced you to have the other roles unlocked prior, so you had to grind for more gold or pay real money to access a role you might not have wanted.
You gotta do a crap ton of fishing to extend your max health, which when you weren’t being griefed was a lengthy process altogether.
And the economy - forget expensive guns. The money you needed just to care for and feed your horse, yet you had to buy the damn brush lol.

i always say never be too hyped on a new game thats not out yet always go into the new game with very low expectations so that when you finally get your hands on it and play it for the very first time it blows your mind out of the world. and then when u have played it for a few days then start working out if your expectations have been blown out of the water or not.

If the online world was as deep as the story, it’d be great. Or if by doing stuff in story mode I unlocked cosmetics or other fun stuff in online

I think an ‘adopt a low level’ concept could work to help new players learn more about RDR Online… ability cards trip people up consistently, with many guides on-line being outright incorrect or being compiled by players who can’t PVP to begin with…
I have a few characters and am currently bringing one up through the ranks and honestly, the issue for me is that it’s too easy to get above rank 100 and have everything I ‘need’ in the game.
Ultimately R* haven’t got their economy or rank rewards system sorted - so the only people buying anything with real money are the level 10’s (if they make it that far)

It’s not without its many faults but when you tap into what it has to offer its wonderful. I won’t go into a long diatribe as to why but I feel it’s a shame that people are more interested in finding ways to slam it than to try to understand why thousands of players like myself enjoy it so much. It’s not COD, it’s not Fortnite, it’s not RDR2 and it’s not even living up to its own potential… but it is a vast world with tons to do if you lean into it.

Definitely shouldn’t have given in but bounty hunter is a really good role for new players, if you do daily challenges to earn gold bars to buy this and free roam missions kinda helps, you can just grind the missions for money and gold bars but I guess it does get boring after awhile too..

As amazing as gta 5 and red dead 2 were, it’s a shame that they’ve become so money focused with all the online content, and no single player dlc for either game. Both games had such amazing worlds, it would’ve been so cool to get more single player story content.
I know, they’re a big company and they need to make money, but they are doing some scummy things now like not doing free upgrades for the next gen consoles even though they didn’t change much, and releasing a really half baked remake of 3 and the other games from that time.
I really hope 6 is amazing and it probably will be, but I’m not as confident as I once was.

Unlike GTA Online, it's really difficult to kick start your professions in RDO without spending real money. Every profession in GTAO is bought with dollars, which can be earned fairly easily, even from day 1 if you have friends with access to heists. Every profession in RDO is bought with Gold Bars which take forever to farm in game, regardless of how many friends you have. If you want to get into the professions in RDO but you don't want to grind through daily challenges every day for a week to unlock each one, you will end up spending real money.
The progression experience in each game is so radically different that they don't even feel like they were made by the same company.

I think that RDO was always going to be limited by the time period that it was set in. Personally I love the old west setting, but I’d be willing to bet that most people would rather grind for a flying car in GTA online than they would for a horse that’s marginally faster than every other horse.

    • @SPQRKlio
      @SPQRKlio ปีที่แล้ว +1

One aspect I like about RDO is that I began to feel a connection to my starter horse and don't want to grind for a different one, even for a flying horse. I'll grind for better saddle/stirrups/etc. to make him marginally better, but he's, like, my loyal steed who has fallen down cliffs with me all across the map.
I wonder how many people would have loved the time period if it had been used with maximum creativity. For me, if I want to be in a fast and wild city, I can get on a train and meet some friends for lunch. And RDO could have its wild-and-crazy towns as well as it's quiet places, if both were set up well. Not everybody is going to love Stray, for example, but I'd hang out as a cat for a few days doing nothing but hopping around and napping and listening to music. I wish there were more motivation--and sufficient off-the-charts profit--for companies to produce settings that cater to (to put it in simplistic terms) introverts as well as extroverts.

Headshots kill 100% of the time unless they have 1 specific build meant to survive them. I didn't have the whole "These guys are fucking me because of what they have" moment. After playing the story I was so used to the combat that I was never really at a disadvantage. Get good bro. Aim assist is strong but everyone has it equally. Just buy the bolt action rifle. Its cheap and one of the best options. Right now if a new player loads into gta online they'll get absolutely ran by oppressors and laser tanks and all kinds of op garbage that costs $2+ mil and isn't fun to use but they're forced to buy them in order to compete.

  • @Mhats
    @Mhats ปีที่แล้ว +3

no offense to this guy but he has no idea what he's talking about this is a very amature-ish break down of the rdr online, as a person who played the online since the beginning, the reason that rockstar abandoned the online isn't because of the economy is terrible and it's not fun,
it's because the economy is too good, it's so good that no one is buying the microtransaction gold.
if you sell a full wagon you get 625$ which takes like a total of 3 hours. if you sell a ready to ship moonshine batch it's around 200$ which takes like 40 mins and the gold you get from daily challenges were so good Rockstar halved the amount you get from it last year because everyone was making too much gold and not buying the gold that rockstar sells.
and on gta online the economy is so terrible that people have to buy cash, it takes along time to make 1 million $ and the best cars and vehicles cost millions a piece. so they keep making content for it because it's a cash cow. red dead online's economy is so genrous compared to gta online that it's not making any money so they abandon it.

He never deviates from mass internet opinion, NEVER. That is what makes me appreciate what Luke does. There are games where the internet does nothing but crap on them but if he sees it different, he isn't afraid to go against the grain. I truly appreciate that because 90% of gaming TH-camrs just regurgitate the same stuff and rarely have a differing viewpoint of current internets opinion.
I'm just glad somebody finally said it because it needed to be said.

  • @FluxNoise
    @FluxNoise ปีที่แล้ว +4

I mean it's your thing what's fun for you but your representation of the game is quite flawed here.
First of all, PvP was always bad in any Rockstar game and it always will be. It's not really the point why people play these games and what makes them stand out.
There is something like "headshots" and you don't need 10 shots with a beginner gun to kill someone. You yourself killed someone with like 3 body shots in your video.
The problem is that you don't hit your targets at all because you don't wait for your aim to steady up.
Next thing is "they snipe you from a distance with the strong autoaim"... thing is autoaim doesn't work with sniper scopes so if they do it with autoaim they do it without the scope and in that case you can do the same to them.
Also complaining about not being on the same level gearwise in a game that is at least meant to be a lightweight rpg is just weird. Of cause they have better weapons, otherwise what would be the point of progressing at all?
If someone makes it their mission to hunt you down you don't have to engage with them... there are plenty of mechanics to give you the option to run away. But if you're triggered like that and keep trying to fight them that's on you :D
The economy is really not that bad anymore. It was at launch but now there are alot of ways to make decent money.
Especially at the beginning you can simply follow the story missions and let those guide you (they don't just end after the intro like you described it) and you'll have a pretty decent amount of money to buy some weapons that i still use in the endgame like the bold action rifle or the pump action shotgun.
Blood Money mission are in no way high production value mission. They were supposed to be but they are not and that's why most of the RDO community was pretty disapointed about that DLC.
On the topic of cheaters it's also a typical Rockstar problem but tbh for a Rockstar game it's pretty good in RDO if you compare it with GTAO.. I play daily atm for at least 1-2 hours, often longer, because a friend just got into the game and in the last 2 weeks i came across 2 cheaters.
There are alot more small points but i think i got my point across.
The game has tons of problems and i'm the first one to complain about it but they are different ones than the misconceptions you gathered about the game.
Maybe you should've checked how accurate your impressions are with someone who actually plays and knows the game so this person could have told you where you're actually right and it's the games fault or in which cases you just didn't get the mechanics right.
I hope this post didn't come across as too hostile or disrespectful.
Usually i like your videos and i know it's just supposed to be your short impressions from looking into it for a short time.
But in this case maybe you should've stated more often that it's just a small impression instead of delivering it like facts about the game when some of them are straight up wrong.

Luke, I normally enjoy your content. But this is a pretty rough take. Playing through the intro and the first series of story missions explains and teaches you how to play properly, which in this video, you are not.
The point of RDO is not to get locked into repetitive shoutouts with comparatively over-leveled opponents, get mad and then blame the game or your weapons.
The weapons you start out with are adequate and are sometimes used by high level players. Not as much the cattleman, but I’ve seen players over level 200, using the carbine.
It’s not the weapons. It’s that instead of the story, you’re focusing on fighting griefers. You’re not using deadeye and you even said “there’s no headshots”. You say there’s nothing to do, then spend 5 minutes listing off all the different missions, roles and multiplayer matches. Come on, man.
Did someone pay you for this video?
