@@kylemccarthy2292the setting of 1899 makes it hard to add things that “modern audiences” would want to spend real money on. GTA appeals to the kind of people who want to skip the grind and just buy the cool flying car. RDR requires patience in even the short term, a lot of things take a lot of time to just do in the game and that is the exact opposite of what the whales funding GTA online updates want from a game.
@@goatlps this is the most braindead child take I've ever seen bro ofc you won't get the value you probably ain't even old enough to know about the west lol now go on fortnite or sum
RDO was always going to be worse, it's a vast empty world with maybe 4 or 5 villages/ towns? and to traverse you get a slow horse that has no radio no fun lights no city streets etc etc. So people will naturally get bored of it unless you're a 35 year old guy who literally wants to go fishing on a 3d game which is fine (but in that case why not go fishing irl? )
Good lord this seems like a horrible time from beginning to end. Live service really has ruined online games. I remember having so much fun playing Red Dead 1 online, just hopping on and playing what I wanted when I wanted. I don't want playing a game to become a full time job.
Houses, sure. Ranches, I don't get. Play a farming or ranching sim if that's what you're after. Houses or other properties like it, though, absolutely; ridiculous our characters still lived in a tent after getting rich.
@@CottonKerndy2000I don't think buying a ranch would be all that crazy Is it any different than buying a taxi cab company or something in GTA? Or a nightclub. Would be perfectly reasonable
It could’ve been tied to the stables and offered rare legendary horses to find. Break and sell horses to emerald ranch and the mcfarlanes as another pursuit.
Dude, what did you come up with, "flying horses?" I'd wager your ideas would've been far worse than the tonne of content they added. RDO has to be the most underrated online game ever. But no real gamer should stick to 1 game for their whole life anyway. Move on, play some games.
@@goatlps I dont think he was meaning his own ideas for "what could have been", more so just the fact that Rockstar dropped support for a game that could've been a lot more than it is currently. With even more content updates like roles, missions, properties etc.
@@goatlpsrdo is an underrated game, as someone who has invested over 1000 hours into the online side and replayed the story 7 times even 100% the whole story i can say that red dead online really isn’t as good as it could of been and honestly as someone who had a lot of faith in the game and been there since day 1 I just feel like it could’ve been way better and there’s hardly anything “fun” to actually do.

My favorite memory is when I was on the second the beta dropped, and me and at-least 8 other randoms were in a circle getting hyped in game chat simply because we had the lasso in online. Wish I could go back for just a day to experience that again.
Me and my one friend had a similar experience we both pre-ordered the game and as soon as we could we were doing dumb shit togeter in online funnest time ngl, online for rdr2 is a bigger cash cow than gta
This is one of the most savage yet nostalgic videos I’ve watched. The progression of RDO really worked like the progression of the Wild West - beta was wild with players killing each other in large posses for hours at a time and there was literally nothing else to do except be killers. Then ‘civilisation’ crept in with roles like trader and bounty hunter and extra online modes so people could make an easier life on RDO. This then advanced to everyone having money and guns and the game became so tame and boring that the ‘wild’ element slowly died. Poetic really. That ending killed me bro. Great video 👏
Could have been an amazing online game. Outlaws, bounty hunters, homesteaders and rustlers, Indians and soldiers. So much potential wasted. All good ideas slain on the altar of selling a premium currency. Rockstar, I never paid for gold. I used a promotion to get the bounty hunter role for free and I used daily challenges and bounties to grind gold. The premium currency kept new players from picking the game up. Why play a game that encourages players to use real money to get good gear and cosmetics? Not to mention that the amount of cheating in the game made paying gold almost useless.
I honestly just wish if they don't add any HUGE update just add private servers because every time I try to hop online to see if online is still fun I get slaughtered by hackers :(
@@JosephTeliVision Yeah I use this too it's called "RDO Private Lobby Manager" completely safe too. It's how I play with my friends due to the rampant hacker problem. It's sadly the only way to enjoy it these days.
@@scottmemelord6130I've been looking for a safe way to play solo like that, isn't it risky though? I've heard about some terrible ban waves and I wouldn't want to get banned for using a mod, do you know anybody who's been banned for it or if I could get banned for using it?
I remember that sometimes I would put all my guns away, disable the HUD and just walk with my horse around the map, with the game's loading screen music playing in the background. Sometimes I had other players join me, and that's something I feel can't be experienced any other way.
I loved doing that too... until hackers in the game started ruining it. It was so annoying. I started playing RedM and doing red dead roleplay recently and it really is amazing, it's genuinely so much fun and make red dead online what I always wished it was, but I know thats not everyones kind of thing. Red Dead Online as a normal online game deserved more love too.
Red dead online is the reason i even met my current friend group with out this game i would have never met my best bud and our first interaction was him inviting me to a party and me saying "the fuck do you want" and him asking to do some missions
I saw early signs that the end was gonna happen at some point in time. The gold ( Self explanatory). The movement system change after the first roles update that changed the smooth and intense shootouts to first person, drug induced strafin with broken hitboxes. The constant tonic spam combined with the unnecessary ability cards system bred a "Meta over Fun" mentality among a high number of players including the ones that didn't even want to play that way. Don't even get me started on the disappearance of ALL the animals for a whole 8 months after the moonshine update dropped. Had to load into legendary bounty missions just to hunt for the trader role. Out of spite I want Gta 6 to flop for what they did to our child, but at the same time I do want it to be good lol. Rant aside, great video man. The effort put into it feels like this should be a bigger channel so here's another to help with that.🤙
Sounds like you played for plenty long enough for a free add-on, so it does actually have a lot of content, added for free. Yet it's always, "abandoned", and, "wasted potential." GTAVI didn't harm RDO at all - R* making RDO actually delayed GTAVI. But a game based on riding a horse and shooting could never generate the microtransactions of GTAO - thankfully. Take-Two would've made more money from RDR2 story DLC, but they'd basically already banned R* from making any.
You understand if GTA6 fails which is almost a billion dollar project? so if R* fails my favorite gaming company is cooked. An you most likely will never see RDR3.
@@goatlps If they'd actually tried then I would understand, but they didn't. Just an immense lack of care and effort. "That's money hungry rockstar for you", is what I would say if take-two wasn't the soul sucking entity that it is. Wish they would just drop em so R*s IPS could get actual content instead of credit card dlc.
I remember the first day of Red Dead Online I spawned in the desert with a bunch of random players and we had a big fist fight full of people being lassoed and dragged around! It was such a fun time, now everytime i hop on Red Dead online its either a ghost town or big posses having wars in the middle of towns shooting anyone they see on sight. It's sad to see Rockstar abandoned a game with so much potential..
I meet one of my closest friends in RDO who also became the first player I ever played with. Before RDO I was a hardcore solo player because of my crippling social anxiety which caused me to be terrified of online games and pvp. I was riding around when a random player caught me with a lasso (typical) and when the player let me go I saw that he had a super high lvl. I wasn't gonna shoot knowing full well that he would obliterate me so I just stood looking at him. That caused him to tie me up, but me on his horse and bring me to his camp. Four years later we play almost every single day! So RDO downfall hurt quite a lot but I will always be thankful for the fact that it gave me my first ever online friend.
The currency in RDR2 and Online seems so off to me. It was way too easy to make money in single player, and way too slow/tedious in online. Also great video, you can tell you put a lot of work into it, hopefully the algorithm will pick it up.
I find starting in online very hard. Once you get trader and bounty hunter you'll, make $1 000 a day If you play for a good 2 and a half hours. I have about 280 hours in Red Dead Online and it's still fun, even though I play the Story mode more, I just love more playing some RDO with my friends. Just the tedious process of having to complete all the story missions and then you make enough gold bars for only 1 role, is very hard, that's why everyone starting over should get some respect. I'm not gonna lie, I got Naturalist and the Halloween pass completely out of friendly modders, but I would make enough gold for them with Bounty Hunter but I was greedy. Seeing as much shorter it is in Red Dead Online to buy everything in the game compared to Grand Theft Auto Online, I now refuse any offer for free gold or money from cheaters. I find Red Dead Online Fun playing even with the boring content, it's just the fact that I want to Buy everything that makes me enjoy the grind with my friends.
Thats the point, in singleplayer you get a bunch of money so you can buy everything without thinking but in online its the opposite so you dont get everything in 2 days 🤦♂️
@@Volkswagen_Yeetle The only people that have $50,000 + are like 5% of the whole RDO game, you can see on steam that only like 15% of people have rank 50, Imagine how many % of people would have $50 K. I met like 2 people in game that have maybe 30K with one of the best outfits and good guns. Nowadays everyone buys RDR2 completes it tries RDO and quits after like 5 weeks of playing.
@@Tokcek750"one of the best outfits" there is no best outfit. You sound like someone who rides bandwagons irl and only wears overly expensive Nike and Air Jordan shoes even though they are made cheaply
I remember when save red dead online was at its highest. It inspired me to buy the game and try it out myself. The player base definitely felt bigger than it does now
I think what probably hurt a lot was the "Save Red Dead Online" that happened on Twitter and Rockstar just ignored it, and the constant Halloween outlaw pass coming back... God, I remember everyone speculating if they were gonna add zombies in the online on its first month of Halloween, good times, this bring backs memories, now all I do is hop on once in a blue moon, and literally walk to towns and sit down on benches and chat with anyone nearby
This will go down as one of the biggest wasted opportunities in gaming. After seeing how everything turned out, now I wish that guy that hacked rockstar would have released the red dead source code to the modders. If RS isn't willing to support this game the community would have.
There is a program like that actually called RedM, but its mostly used for red dead online roleplaying. Completely changes and improves the system of the game, IK not everyone is into that stuff but it is really amazing and I'm glad there are people out there who support the game even if rockstar doesnt. I really enjoy RedM though and would highly recommend it.
I remember jumping straight into the multiplayer after finishing the story in the same week of release and falling instantly into despair. It was nothing like the first RDR multiplayer and had a poor currency system. I dropped it after a few missions. Months later I tried it again and not only was it worse, I couldn't play any missions that required more people, because no one was one now. At least not when I could play. It could've been beautiful.
It’s sad how that game actually went bad and down. There was also still online story missions to complete. Sadly we didn’t get the ones with Grace lancing I really wanted to know what happened after Jessica and Horley
this genuinely makes me so sad. i love this game so much. i finally got my 100% playthrough, but now there’s a bittersweet feeling of not knowing what to do. story mode is fantastic , as was online. but now it’s riddled with bugs and toxic new players/ bored level 900 veterans. i miss this game at its prime. also playing that’s the way it is is cruel brother you got me sobbing
Everyone that plays this game knows how much potential this had. It’s sad that there is no other company to threaten rockstar’s beloved GTA, so they could open their eyes. Rdr could’ve made as much money as GTA. With updates simple as Properties, working like moonshine, costing 10000 gold bars or smth, they get players to grind and use their real money. Giving us more passes, more horses and stable space, decent train robberies, bank robberies, new roles like rancher, horse trading, debt collector, finishing Online story, the game would take off completely. And for everyone saying GTA had attention: no it didn’t. Yes a, rockstar updates the game, but you know what they do? They take cars from the game or give you useless cars, and they update their shark cards to get more money. Not to mention every other week we have a new horrible song from an artist no one gives a f*** about to play on the radio. Rockstar, since 2019, seems to have lost everything they had good. And it saddens me that GTA kids are willing to pay 200$ or more for GTA6 because that just gives more power to this god awful company. Yes, their story games are good. But the company as a whole is disgusting and their contractors and investors are even worse. Boycott rockstar.
Even tho you might call your past self "cringe" (an experince i think we can all relate to), it's awesome to hear the genuine joy and fun you and your pals were having :). Takes me back. Great video, with good audio balancing.
I remember playing the online in what was, for me, the best time to play. The daily challenges weren't nerfed yet, and I was able to buy all three roles. I had a lot of fun, and getting money from hunting was immensely satisfying. I would watch any new video that came out, and stopped playing about at the same time the dailys were nerfed. Great video bro, keep it up!
It's a shame that rockstar abandoned red dead online I remember when the frontier update came out I was hyped up because I had high hopes that we'd get more roles and new stuff but seeing rockstar give it bread Crumb updates has to be one of the saddest tragedy in gaming history
I ran a clan in red dead online a huge one actually with my friend hydro, it had over 1000 members so as you can imagine I was on this game 24/7 for atleast a year 2018 onwards and those were some of the best times I’ve ever had on a game. I will never forgot the potential rdo had and how truly sad it is that rockstar abandoned it. Little tip btw you can exploit the money in races for example if you and your friends wait out a lobby for 20 mins you’ll get 5-10x the xp, gold and money it’s quite nice and how I imagined to get thousands of gold
Red dead online is so much better then gta online. I started a new character a month ago and I’m having a blast playing with my wife. I haven’t had this much fun in any gta game
Honestly bro this was a high quality video, you must really get screwed over by the algorithm if you make content this good man. Keep up the great work.
Pre daily missions I figured out that Gun Rush rewarded you based on your place on the leaderboard when you quit in addition to the "More gold for just waiting around timer" So if I got eliminated early I could just set the controller down upside down so there was input on the sticks and go do house chores or something else until the match ended. If everyone else who got eliminated in the meantime left the lobby to start a new match by the time the final 1v1 was over I'd get the payout for finishing third place instead of 31st or whenever I was actually eliminated. Also, there was always a typo in one text that displayed during gun rush that only appeared on one single map. I sent that in as a bug report a few times I would totally be unsurprised if it was still there today.
Great job on the video, this my favorite game ever made. I only play story though because the amount of detail and secrets is amazing, and endless..I always felt like online was dead, never cared much for it… it’s like a western backrooms😂
They could’ve atleast given us 1 last update. 1 last huge update where they include the ability to get a ranch & you can build your own ranch & do chores & stuff, & they fix any bugs, include satchels & belts as purchasable items & then call it a day.
This video is amazing, it absolutely deserves more views and I’m sure you’ll get them. The effort really shows, especially with everything you talked about. I’ve been playing since the beta and I knew of each thing you’d talk about next. I’m happy to see someone talking about the game that actually cares about it and isn’t just some GTA youtuber covering the game with little interest. You earned my sub
I think what makes me angrier at this RDO situation is the 0 communication we have from Rockstar. 0. We all know the game is dead. We all know it’s just waiting for servers to shut down. So why doesn’t rockstar just post a paragraph explaining why tf did they do this.
In defense of the elephant rifle, it's an awesome cavalry weapon if you can manage the awful fire rate. Riding a horse negates the knockback for some reason, and you don't have to focus on aiming for crits to get a one shot kill. Literally just point at a player, or their horse, and boom. Dead.
Not to mention Rockstar completely ignored the players pleas to revive this game. For months people would post “Save Red Dead Online” in the comments section of every official Rockstar news wire post. Literally thousands of posts and they ignored every single one of them. I noticed in the comments section of the GTA 6 reveal, just as many people posting “we will never forgive you for what you did to RDR2 online” or something similar. With such a strong story mode and hands down the most popular video game protagonist to ever be created, they had a clear path to success right in front of them. There was plenty of people, at the time, making excuses for Rockstar by blaming the COVID lockdowns for the eventual failure. Even Rockstar themselves made references to staffing issues because of it. I wasn’t buying it then, and I’m still waiving the bullshit flag on it, now. Rockstar spent eight damn years developing just the story mode. Eight years. The effort they put into the online portion pales in comparison. At the end of the day, this game basically became a technology demonstration for GTA 6. GTA 5 shark card sales were still bringing in a lot more than RDR2 online ever did. They chose, at the end of the day, to sacrifice what could have been for what they already had. GTA 5 is over 10 years old, and still making them money hand over fist. I will maintain my belief, if they would have stuck it out and given this game a proper chance, it might never have rivaled GTA, but it would have been stood by itself just fine. In addition to it being an entirely different experience to GTA, in the beginning and especially during the release of Frontier Pursuits, the vast majority of players even had a different feeling to them. I can’t count how many genuinely friendly and helpful players I ran into during that time. Sure, every now and then you would come across one of the GTA tryhards that went around massacring everyone and everything. But 99% of them were enjoyable to be around and talk with. Gone was the lobbies filled with griefers and tryhards. It was just a slower paced game, in my opinion, that initially attracted a mostly older and more mature player. Once the game started to stagnate, and especially during the more than 8 months of animals not spawning, I began to see more and more frustration and then a steady stream of GTA transplants that absolutely ruined the vibe. Back then, and honestly even now, you can’t go into town without four or five posse’s killing every single person they come across. With no way to escape these morons, you’re stuck getting supplies from camp. You can’t even deliver a bounty without these mouth breathers throwing dynamite or shooting your horse with dynamite arrows. Rockstar really dropped the ball here. It was themed and promoted as a game where you could be an outlaw. What we got was a game not about working not as a lawman, but as a bounty hunter. A game not as an outlaw, but a petty criminal. A hunter and poacher. All in all, a hired hand sent on fetch quests. An idiot taking orders from a crazed tree hugging maniac of a woman that talks to animals. Hell, Rockstar even ruined the idea of turning those legendary animal pelts into awesome coats and vests, like you could in story mode, into something mundane and stupid. The coats you could make from those pelts ended up just being the same damn version of coat, over and over again, with an idiotic headpiece as a hood. They ended up being the easiest way to spot the tryhards, since damn near all of them wear one with a bandanna permanently on their face. Ironically, the only unique coats or vests that looked to be made of animal skin or pelts were usually locked behind a gold purchase, and they were only uploaded three or four times during the exceeding few outlaw passes, never to be seen again. Arguably, the coolest pistol in the game never made it to online. I could go on and on about how many ways Rockstar screwed up here. How many roles could have been created that would have kept the then growing community engaged for years to come. But again, they chose to abandon this game and its players, in favor of that clown and shit show that is GTA 5. A 10 year old game that they are still updating with regular content. It’s pretty bad when even Elon Musk can recognize how completely stupid Rockstar is to continue milking GTA 5. What a complete waste of time, effort and money, just to see it abandoned and forgotten. F you, Rockstar. Every time you got hacked and your precious shit was leaked, it made me laugh.
RDO changed my life. Not just by playing it but by also shaping my future. I developed what I wanted to do for the rest of my life because of this game. And RDO gave me to freedom to do that. Creating a whole story using RDO as a base, and then uploading that story to YT for others to see and inspire them to make their own stories in RDO. That's the beauty of RDO. It's your own story; if you choose to grind it, take a more RP-styled approach, or even just messing around with friends. R* gave us a world to create our own story... it's just a shame they abandoned it.
Rockstar: We added new updates that bring a ton of new content and jobs to RDO. RDO Fans: Awesome thank you so much, keep doing that and Red Dead Online will be on the right track. Rockstar: We’ve added a new Crime job, glorified Stranger missions you can access by paying Capitale, a new currency in the game you need to pay gold bars for to show our lack of care for Red Dead Online. RDO Fans: That’s an awful update. Why are you being so greedy? Rockstar: After the poor reception of our new update, we’ve decided to cancel support for Red Dead Online and move our teams to GTA6 and GTA Online. Seriously, Rockstar is so out of touch with the online components of their games. It’s incredibly annoying. They had an awesome sandbox to play with in RDR2 and decided to throw it all away and barely give it any love. Imagine if they added a farmer job where you could grow crops, raise and feed cattle to then sell them to a stable or merchant. Just a lot of wasted potential. And then, when players complained about their lack of care, they cancelled support for Red Dead Online and basically backstabbed the Red Dead Online community for that of GTA Online (because GTA players obviously satisfy their greedy needs more than the Red Dead community does, and Rockstar like when they are in control of what their players buy).
My friend and I started playing yesterday and it was the most fun we've ever had on any game. Put about 8 hours in it yesterday and didn't regret a single second spent.
This video is great you definitely earned a new subscriber. I really enjoy evolution/downfall videos that go over history of different games you did awesome on this!
its actually pathetic and dumb business wise to completely abandon this games that's barely 10 years old and highly successful the excuse of Rockstar not having enough people or resources to work on it is complete bs
It is so sad that RDO fell the way it did. I remember reading about them "pausing" the updates, to focus on GTA. Yet here we are a good while later, and they have yet to resume updating the game. Anytime me and my friend get on, we are met with hackers in every server, making it unplayable. Furthermore, nothing to do when we finally catch a break from the chaos. Though it is worth mentioning that roleplay servers are playing a part in reviving the "online" part of the community, even if those roleplays are never done in the online mode.
fucking great relatable video. I remember getting home from school every tuesday when rockstar did weekly updates and checking the catalogue for new clothes and so on. Good Times.
When the online came out I didn’t play as much, I got to a lvl 10. Then in 2020 I just randomly joined a posse and met some of the greatest people. I went from a lvl 10 to a 205 in that one year. Our group was diverse asl too, I was 21, my buddy Patrick was 27, marc was 16, cruel was 55, his nephew was 13, and we had a buddy from the UK. we played this everyday!!! I was a mean nba2k head, but when I met them 2k was forgotten to me 😂💯. Everyday we had a full posse of 7, we weren’t griefers either we just grind missions all day and help lower lvls if we had space in the posse. Then I got the news from cruel that rock* was nerfing the daily challenges that’s when we all started backing off RDO. Now it’s 2024 and I don’t even talk to them anymore, only mark just because of social media. Rock* really did their fans dirty. We all had hope they’ll add heist and properties. On xbox(my original account) Imma 388 with over 100k dollars and 1.2k gold bars😢💔. I’m on the 5 now starting over and it’s kinda fun but only for a couple hours cuz let’s be honest, it’s boring playing by yourself ‼️
I really hope that Rockstar at least re-releases the old Outlaw passes back to the game. I really need a reason to grind because I do love it and there's limited things for me to do these days. Rockstar keeps re-releasing the second halloween pass so I don't see why they can't do the same with the others. I wouldn't even mind Rockstar including the old Outlaw passes in the GTA+ subscription. I honestly say it would be a smart move because people would have to pay irl money instead of gold whom people have glitched many times by now.
Beautiful montage at the end. Really captures the spirit of roaming the world of RDR. I just wish it had gotten the same love as GTAO. But because no one bought gold like shark cards it was discarded.
The signs were there from the beginning instead of patching horse duplication. They just made it to where every horse you buy sells for nothing. The laziness was there from the get-go. Red Dead online was never going to make it
My biggest anger was if they were gonna quit, why not just give us properties real quick or some ranch house or something long term and substantial to last? I grinded so hard and so long for gold and there ended up being nothing meaningful to use it on. Then anytime there was something useful or meaningful it was on a timed pass only to expire forever. Why? You can get on GTAO now and buy a bunker. Can you imagine if you could only get access to a bunker if you actively played for 2 months? Because of this there are items I missed in passes, and can't even have incentive to get on and play to work for
I will never forget how I was attacked by 3 players in the swamp while I was carrying a cargo of Creeps. at one point, I played them Gachi remixes of songs and we danced in the swamps all night. they didn't even know the language of these songs, but they really liked it. I regret that I did not capture it in any way
The thing I liked most of the old red dead online was the outlaw passes. They added in new and unique clothing based off of pop culture and famous stuff, but then they just abandoned it. It made me actually play the game until I got all the special stuff, and I enjoyed unlocking it all. I remember the very first outfit was the Frontiersman outfit, which mimicked a uniform from the Spanish American war (and the only way you could get a campaign hat). I remember the special skin for the Cattleman revolver (with a cavalry ring) and the other special skins for guns. It was unique, and fun, and actually made me feel like I was progressing by just playing and doing whatever. Very special and I wish they branched off on it more, I would have liked to get gun skins based on characters from the main story's personal guns.
I started playing rdr2 in 2020 and felt so connected to the game. Something about changed me as a person and it is really a shame Rockstar's greed for cash go in the way of what could've been the best online content if they lended an ear to the community and really asked us what we wanted instead of looking at ways to make money. Can't imagine how many rdo online veterans have quit cause due to the lack of content that was being produced, RIP Red Dead Online.
The thing that happened to online gaming is the same thing that happens to everything once people realize there's money to be made; it becomes heavily commercialized and gets ruined because of that. Online gaming used to be only focused on the experience of gaming with other players. Now it's all about pushing players into microtransactions and low key gambling. The greed for money eventually ruins everything.
One of my most fond memories is having a new years party with all my long distance rdo playing friends. Using this game we were able to dress up fancy like, explore in the snow that covered the whole map at winter time, dance, play poker together, shoot the shit and get horribly drunk at the moonshine bar. All while we were all tipsy irl. It was so much fun, it is a core memory for me. It's silly, but at the height of rdo, that was truly a wonderful time to play with my friends.
I appreciate read dead online for what it is but it is so sad to think what it could have truly been. My hopes were high back in those days too. They gave us the most amazing story in any video game ever and they could have provided one of the best online experiences too
not having invite only kills it for alot of people, in red dead redemption 1 online you could go to invite only and invite people to play with in a posse but in the modern one you cant. that pretty much cuts down on the fun activity because you cant do a shootout with cops in the modern red dead online or you get a bounty and get put in a none consensual bounty hunt where a player tries to kill you. so it kills it for alot of us because who wants to play in a mode where someone can just pull out dynamite arrow and blow you up for no reason?its a mystery why they never added invite only to the game because it could have saved it. oh well the game is 5 years old and considered dead.
I think this is one of my few triggers. They could’ve done so much like make the zombie dlc or add a few more roles to online. I would’ve happily payed and played. HUGE opportunity missed here.
Back when they first broughr out those first 3 roles I'd normally have a long youtube video in the background and just chill a few hours doing the whole map. Did it on a Sunday every week for a month and then had enough money for anything I ever felt that I needed. Was able to buy anything released in the future content updates and after that i just hit max role ranks and then just chilled in the open world. Such a shame man the world is so rich and full of life and the only reason I kept coming back past the initial online release after all my crew of friends stopped playing after a few weeks was because I kept myself immersed but as mentioned in this video, rockstar really wanted people to stop playing it the way they were hardly releasing content and the moment they brought something decent out for the players still interested like daily challenges they decided to back peddle, remove one of the only few good things to grind for and then straight up pull the plug and announce that 'that's it folks'. As someone who rode the wave from 2018 and kept coming back until about late 2021 I enjoyed my time and compared to gta lobbies, ypu actually meet alot better people in that open world. One thing that I really love that wasn't mentioned was the proximity system, you didn't have players from the other side of the map hunting you down as they didn't know where you were if you were just chilling in the middle of nowhere minding your own busisness. To those still out there playing, I commend you as you guys are the ones who made the game great for those small interactions in the world. I really hope that if red dead 3 launches (long time from now) they do the online justice and actually make the right efforts and use rdo as an example for themselves of what went wrong and how they can make it better
I completely forgot about the online story. They literally did nothing with that. They had you break out of jail and then do a couple of missions just to deal with one dude and then they never expanded on the story so you never learn anything about who else was involved in killing that woman's husband.
I have made 1 billion dollars on gta online, I’m legit level 200+ and I still prefer RDR2 online it feels so much more “alive” I enjoy roaming, hunting, walking into the saloon and getting into bar fights with other players, fishing and doing random things like the moonshine camps or bandit camps. Idk, it just feels like a better game all around. GTA online has been around forever and it gets worse with every update in my opinion. Long live red dead ❤️
I had a slightly different start, joined the condor egg hunt on a whim as my very first event and found it for $2k. My friend who had been playing for a while already was screaming.
really enjoyed this video. only yesterday i checked out my old game clips and captures from the beta, all of which were me messing around with mates, and i genuinely shed a tear. awesome times!
This was so well made! I’m so sad that red dead online didn’t live up to its full potential but it was fun while it lasted. They really killed the game with greed and it really sucks, if only people would stop buying shark cards.
I remember at some point after blood money, when Rockstar announced that they'd be discontinuing content updates to RDO, there was a major bump in playerbase and general interest around the game. Hell, we got it trending as a hashtag. Lots of youtubers started making videos on the game, but in the end, none of it really mattered, because we didn't get anything else.
Nice outro! But yeah I was literally thinking about this the other day, it’s been something like years since the last update. Surely they could just add properties, and then those could unlock heist style missions like in GTA Online? That shouldn’t be difficult to do…
I tried playing it again with a new character.. It's just sad, let alone the whole subject that we'll never get any new content, the amount of glitches minor and big (like the horse not spawning when you whistle and the stables one) and knowing that the game will never be patched.. It's embarrassing for a company this big
My friend group and I are actually having a lot of fun with the online mode, we often just chill around camp, do some trading missions, do some bounty hunting and occasionally dabbling in a bit of roleplaying here and there. It sure could have had a lot more content or polishing, but I’m having a blast playing it!
One if the most pleasant experiences I ever had in this game is when I was hunting deers in the plains and this random player road up to me. He didn't immediately shoot me and we actually ended up hunting together for a little while. We ended up splitting the pelts even before going our separate ways.
This video was so well put together it could have been from one of the biggest creators on the platform, only it had more heart. Don’t give up continue with this channel and it will be great
Red dead online didnt make infinite money from shark cards so it wasn't worth working on
The hard truth. Money is more important than creating art for the sake of art.
To clarify, I don’t believe that. I’m just saying that’s how the industry is.
Pretty much, yeah
I mean you can buy gold… which pretty much gets almost anything.
It's crazy how GTA Online was so successful that it ruined Red Dead Online, a game that could have been just as good or even better.
RDO was never going to match GTAO. It's basically land, sea, and air vehicles vs a horse LOL.

The line about Harriett spraying you with "some Bill Cosby shit" had me in stitches.
Actually got sad by the video ending. Damn R*, we trusted you. Single player is still a masterpiece.

I loved doing that too... until hackers in the game started ruining it. It was so annoying. I started playing RedM and doing red dead roleplay recently and it really is amazing, it's genuinely so much fun and make red dead online what I always wished it was, but I know thats not everyones kind of thing.

It's sad to see Rockstar abandoned a game with so much potential..
Cruel cruel world at the end was a nice touch, now I’m crying
The end hit different
"There was a story that was, at the the time, unfinished." The sad part is that it's still unfinished.

A single tear rolls down my cheek at the thoughts of the wasted potential every time a red dead online vid pop up in my recommendations.
I think what probably hurt a lot was the "Save Red Dead Online" that happened on Twitter and Rockstar just ignored it, and the constant Halloween outlaw pass coming back...
God, I remember everyone speculating if they were gonna add zombies in the online on its first month of Halloween, good times, this bring backs memories, now all I do is hop on once in a blue moon, and literally walk to towns and sit down on benches and chat with anyone nearby
rdo's prime was 2019 when they gave us the update with the roles and the outlaw pass, man i was so happy that day 😢
This will go down as one of the biggest wasted opportunities in gaming.
Loved the video, really felt like something a huge channel would make. Legitimately made me remember why I stopped playing

Honestly bro this was a high quality video, you must really get screwed over by the algorithm if you make content this good man. Keep up the great work.
I only just started man. Algorithm actually blessed me I only had 13 subs when I posted this. Cheers for the nice comment
Speaking of which, The Professional talks about this game a lot and tried to save the game. He couldn’t, but he tried.
Bro you gotta keep posting content this is entertaining dude
!
I think rockstar might come back for rdrO after gta 6.
If they do they’re gonna have to optimize it for Xbox series. S and X.
Why?
@@Isaac32322 we need 60 fps lol
They won’t
I heard the same thing for after gta 6
RDO changed my life. Not just by playing it but by also shaping my future. I developed what I wanted to do for the rest of my life because of this game. And RDO gave me to freedom to do that. Creating a whole story using RDO as a base, and then uploading that story to YT for others to see and inspire them to make their own stories in RDO. That's the beauty of RDO. It's your own story; if you choose to grind it, take a more RP-styled approach, or even just messing around with friends. R* gave us a world to create our own story... it's just a shame they abandoned it.
the game was great until horsepressor mark .5 came in
Rockstar: We added new updates that bring a ton of new content and jobs to RDO.
When Rockstar abandoned RDRO, I celebrated. GTA W🎉
Red Dead is still a better game than gta 5.

Man I miss playing this game as much as I miss having friends to play it with..
my favorite game
My friend and I started playing yesterday and it was the most fun we've ever had on any game. Put about 8 hours in it yesterday and didn't regret a single second spent.
How are you doing now?
@@BLET_55artem55 We still play and its a blast
This video is great you definitely earned a new subscriber. I really enjoy evolution/downfall videos that go over history of different games you did awesome on this!
The end Made me shed a tear 😢… I have some of best memories playing this game with my friends for the 1st time.
its actually pathetic and dumb business wise to completely abandon this games that's barely 10 years old and highly successful the excuse of Rockstar not having enough people or resources to work on it is complete bs
Red Dead online was never going to make it
I'm shocked that you only have 1.5k subs, this video is documentary level quality work!
Such a small youtuber yet the content is very high quality, keep it up.
Also about RDO, I hate seeing it just being abandoned in favour of GTA.
I remember when I first started playing online I said bar fights would've been a fun thing like team death match style or free for all bar fight
I appreciate read dead online for what it is but it is so sad to think what it could have truly been. My hopes were high back in those days too. They gave us the most amazing story in any video game ever and they could have provided one of the best online experiences too
I can't tell you how many hours I wasted on online, it saddens me that they wasted so much potential.
not having invite only kills it for alot of people, in red dead redemption 1 online you could go to invite only and invite people to play with in a posse but in the modern one you cant. that pretty much cuts down on the fun activity because you cant do a shootout with cops in the modern red dead online or you get a bounty and get put in a none consensual bounty hunt where a player tries to kill you. so it kills it for alot of us because who wants to play in a mode where someone can just pull out dynamite arrow and blow you up for no reason?its a mystery why they never added invite only to the game because it could have saved it. oh well the game is 5 years old and considered dead.
I put an ungodly amount of hours into RDO. A damn shame Rockstar abandoned it. Nothing compared at the time.
I remember coming home from school just to sit down and grind for wolf hearts….
really enjoyed this video. only yesterday i checked out my old game clips and captures from the beta, all of which were me messing around with mates, and i genuinely shed a tear. awesome times!
Fantastic video. Also, I loved the music. What was the song playing at 3:10?
Do you have any interest in joining a roleplay server?
One if the most pleasant experiences I ever had in this game is when I was hunting deers in the plains and this random player road up to me. He didn't immediately shoot me and we actually ended up hunting together for a little while. We ended up splitting the pelts even before going our separate ways.
This video was so well put together it could have been from one of the biggest creators on the platform, only it had more heart. Don’t give up continue with this channel and it will be great
