- Days Gone is amazing for a lot of reasons, but chief among them is that it’s Playstation’s most impressive attempt at a new franchise. While it had its faults, Days Gone is creative, fun, and compelling. I love this game, and today I show you why.

I actually beat Days Gone for the first time a week ago, and im honestly surprised how poorly the gaming media treated the game. It has flaws but its a damn good game
When IGN criticised it because the main character was a white male biker, who used some biker slang (like old lady referring to his wife), thats when I knew the media were all gonna trash it.

I loved cruising on my bike and the beautiful world. The AI was awful though and broken in some cases, at least when I played it via PS Plus. I remember fighting the bear boss and it flat out would ignore me and try to run away. That and the missions were too often dull and uninspired. I also wanted more conflict between the different camps much earlier in the game.
It just felt like all the ingredients were there but the final meal was just okay at best.

After that "secret ending," I was really excited for a sequel and then I looked that up. Super sad that we won't get one.
Their mistake was not making that "secret ending" the official ending.
Rightfully so, good game just shit setting. If it was urban like "I am Legend", then it'll be amazing.

I absolutely loved this game. From the start. I didn't feel I was wasting my time. The game just kept "opening up". The story was awesome and I had fun from chapter zero.
Thats exactly how I felt. It just kept giving me new stuff to do, and when I thought I was close to ending the game it opened up even MORE main missions, it is actually crazy how much work was put into it
The one thing they absolutely got right was travel. Yeah there is fast travel but cruising around in the woods on a motorcycle beats the shit out of riding a horse. Also the hordes. I cleared every single one and loved it. The scenery was perfect.
There are problems with the game but the overall experience was completely worth it.
@@HiFiAwardTour The only game where fast travel is more useless than Days Gone is Spiderman. In Days Gone I loved to ride. I actually bought my first motorcycle because of this game.
The way they designed the map and how you got introduced to different parts made the world feel way bigger than it was (which is really well done). Playing on survival with a bunch of mods is super immersive

Days Gone to me is an extremely slow burn game but by the end. It is a great game imo. With a cliffhanger that left me looking forward to a sequel that may never happen. It did become nice to jump on the bike & just ride down a long lonesome road & see a building & wonder what is in there? Most of the time there was enough detail & resources that justified looking around. The hordes were brilliant. One of the terrifying images to me is a hoard running down a hill in the distance towards you & all you can do is take out a few & run. I hope more people give it a chance.
To me I dont get that "extremely slow burn part" It makes me wonder what the heck you are playing otherwise that makes this game a snooze fest. I cant help but judge you on the "3 second attention span pewpewpew shooter type". Which is your right of course, for each their own.

@OohzyJohnDow you can judge all you want. However i did platinum this game so yeah I think i enjoyed it. It has nothing to do with my attention span. It just is a slog in terms of getting upgrades until you get to Iron Mike's camp.
@@OohzyJohnDow really? It literally takes about 8 hours for anything interesting to happen, did I still enjoy the game? Absolutely. But no game should ever take that long to start getting good.
This game was so good. I played it long after release when all the bugs were fixed. And after being let down by so many dissapointing games that are being released nowadays, this brought me so much joy. Good story that is easy to follow, good graphics and animations, good gameplay, the atmosphere of the world, and very decent length for a single player game. I give it a 9 out of 10. Would be a 10/10 if they actually planned a sequal or DLC.

i know this video has been up for a while now but thank you for making it, people really gotta understand how great of a game this really is, truly underrated.
I've got pretty fond memories of this game. I even didn't notice that alleged boring first half. Maybe I was too scared of hordes I was quite content that I didn't have to deal with them.
Honestly I preferred the first half to second. It really dug into the fact this man had to come to grips with the fact his wife is dead. And I made sure to target hordes even early game
Played it on the plus collection, great game. I enjoyed it from moment 1.
The first half was great because you were underpowered and taking down drifter and RIPper camps was challenging. The freaks were more of an avoidance for me than anything for the first few days of play

I always saw this game as 2 seasons to a really great show. With that mantra it became one of my all time favorite IP's. There's just something so empowering about this narrative that I haven't seen many other zombie titles tackle; not to mention the amount of heart put into every character and encounter.
Yeah this, it felt episodic but in a good way for the best part, there were a couple of bum episodes but the couple of seasons we got were awesome. I hope Sony reconsiders, and brings us another installment, especially now they are looking into releasing more onto PC too.

Playing this game on ps5 has been a breath of fresh air and it’s a shame this game probably won’t get a sequel. Those hordes are absolutely terrifying early in and when you do get the tools later to bring them down it’s still such a good challenge. I remember trying to do the saw mill horde early on and recreate the trailer and it went horribly like 10 times in a row hahah
I just started my second play through of Days Gone a week ago. This game is one of the best I have ever played. The first half of the game may be slow in terms of excitement and battle scenes, but the first half is exceptional in telling the story of a man who doesn’t have it all together. A story where you feel empathy for the character and his relationships with those around him. All good things come to those who wait. I get not being in position of killing hordes in the early game. But no other apocalypse game I’ve seen or played gives you the same satisfaction as Days Gone.

Good thing about new game plus is your bike upgrades also transfer over so you dont need to re install the upgrades
I love this game so much. I remember when I first played it back in September of 2019. It was discounted and I took a chance on it and I’m so glad I did. It quickly became my go to game. I loved the motorcycle gameplay, the combat, the music, the story, the characters, the emergent gameplay systems that surprised me at times. There certainly are some rough qualities in it but I really enjoyed my time with it. I still recommend it to people who haven’t played it. Definitely my goty of 2019.

I played it on PS5 as it was upgraded for the new system. One of the best games I played in the last few years. Really got into it. Seriously underated
Just finished DG for the second time this week. It's an overlooked gem by many. Can't believe Sony hasn't carried on with it
I picked it up earlier this year on a Steam Sale and it was a great experience. The atmosphere is very immersive, the story is pretty good if not a bit predictable, but the few little twists were nice.
The soundtrack/music in the game is also excellent, I found myself looking up some of the music outside of the game.
Solid 8.5, pretty shitty that there won't be a sequel, although now that Sony is pushing more titles onto PC maybe they have a rethink.
From the list, I recommend Metro Exodus to those who haven't played it. I've just played through Jedi Fallen Order which was excellent too.

Watching some horde kill compilations really shows off how cool taking on hordes are. Using the sound lures or any big noise (e.g. explosion) really helps you against them cause it puts them in position for a well placed molotov or grenade.
This was hands down one of my favorite single player AAA experiences alongside red dead redemption 2 and Death Stranding. It's amazing how much attention from pc players It's getting. Really hoping this encourages Sony to let them make Days Gone 2.

I really love the "I tried again" series; everybody's just covering the newest possible games, but seeing how a game really stands the test of time? For me, it never gets old :)

I enjoyed this game. Loved Iron Mike, Rikki, and Skizzo. With a sequel, many of the kinks could've been ironed out and a truly great experience could be born. I let Sony know I love this game and I want more. I let them know every couple of weeks.

Yeah like if there's bunkers they should supplies you can loot for Molotov's or pipe bombs. I don't understand why they didn't make that a thing. Trying to find all those things became tedious as hell
Every time I see Days Gone in my gamelist, I just smile knowing it's an absolute classic. Also Deacon has one of my favorite performances ever in the medium.

I found your channel from your original Days Gone videos and I originally was like “This game rules, this guy is dumb.” (it is legitimately one of my favorite games) and watching your opinions slowly change on the game and me realizing you are a good dude and we just have different game like/dislikes is really cool to me.
One of my fav games ever, with a few issues here and there but the overall package is absolutely superb.
I think it was suicidal that it came out the same time as Death Stranding & Sekiro.
But what I wish they woulda kept was
1) Customizing Deacon & 2) the multiple choices that they got rid of for some reason.
I’m glad you addressed this. Great game I’ve played it many times. I bought it literally at launch and omg trying to drive the motorcycle was rediculous, but they fixed it. And story wise, you get your money worth.

Took a while, but it was generally fun, with a solid performance by Witwer and a generally interesting story!
One of the reasons I loved it was I started taking on hordes right from the beginning of the game by sourcing out spots to collect powerful resources and upgrading as soon as I could / being really strategic with approaching those hordes which made it even more enjoyable in my opinion and the rewards from killing them even more rewarding. Plus I got to actually use those rewards throughout the game rather than after the game is done. I also played the game on Hard and that made the intensity and payoffs even more rewarding. One of my favorite games of all time easily.
Just started playing about a week ago. Got about 30 hours in and still have more to finish. I really started to get myself into the storyline. Can't wait to see how it ends. Hopefully they do a sequel someday.

To me, at least in the beginning, it felt like Days Gone was REALLY trying to put the emotional sauce of The Last of Us into a game that didn't really suit that kind of narrative, whilst also (from what I could tell) not understanding what made the sauce of The Last of Us’s narrative so spicy.
But after this video I wanna give it another shot, from this perspective it looks pretty good!
Especially if you are on PS5. Plays soooo smooth!

This game is my Last of us 2
I plat this game aswell. I thought it was a fun ride and an very well stand alone IP from bend studios. I loved the little references in the bike customisation and the bike riding had the best physics since GTA IV imo. The story was good, but way too long and pacing issues. I thought I was at the end, while I only was 50% in the story (and the game already took me 20+- hours. But nonetheless, deacon was a great protagonist thanks to Sam witwer and the gameplay was fine aswell. It was a great ride and finished the game quite fast
Only thing stopping me from getting the plat for this game are the hordes 😂 I get bad anxiety when trying to kill them

So interesting to see the different approaches to taking out the hordes. I was more of a planner. I hid and then used the distractors and grenades/napalm to take out majority and used the superior axe to get the stragglers. Really only used my guns on human enemies.

I remember playing this game on my ps4 and those hordes were brutal. My palms would sweat with each encounter.
Played this for first time almost two years ago. I was so disappointed when I found out there wouldn’t be a sequel. This should have been a franchise.
Finally playing through it, I started like a week ago on pc.
It is an absolutely gorgeous game, most open world games feel really copy and paste to me. I am a huge stickler for detail and they really put a ton of detail into every single area I’ve explored.
The combat starts out a bit eh, but as you level up and get more gadgets it gets really fun. It’s got the Doom Eternal levels of ammo restriction early on “anti fun” to make you feel like you’re really are in the apocalypse.
The hordes are fucking crazy. No other game has pulled it off like this one.
The voice lines are hit and miss. They could have used a bit more work making some of the conversations click better.

I will never be able to fully express and articulate how incredible this game is. I’m so glad to not have listened to the critics and reviewers and actually give it a try once I got my PS5 because that frame boost and 4k just adds to the unforgettable experience that is Days Gone. The story is captivating. It hits you emotionally and leaves a lasting impression. Boozer. Iron Mike. Sarah. Poor Lisa. Hell, even O’Brien tugged on my heartstrings. The sense of loneliness on the road is unmatched in video games. Oooh when that particular soundtrack plays in the background as you’re making your way up the mountain, or with boozer riding on the back of your trusty motorcycle. Or the end credits goosebumps-inducing song titled Days Gone Quiet by Lewis Capaldi. I swear, if people took the time and gave this game a chance, it might just become a new favorite of theirs. So please, if you are reading things and are on the fence, take a leap of faith. It’s a game with a lot of heart.
I wish I had the ps5, the Xbox series x is great and all, but something is just missing. I’ve never played ghost of Tsushima and this game lol the shooting mechanics and hordes just looks incredible.
@@joeyyc8515 the zombie hordes is one of those gaming moments i’m glad i experienced and won’t ever forget.
A big part it was so good was the incredible voice acting by pretty much all characters. A lot of other big games lack in good voice acting sometimes and it certainly makes a difference when you can hear and feel the emotions. Also, I like how Deacon talks to himself a lot, makes it a bit more realistic because I'm sure we'd all be doing the same if we were in that situation, alone all the time trying to survive.
I just finished playing this game last weekend and man, I'm so glad I finally played it. It's not the best game that came out, but I had such a blast with it. Such a slept on game especially now. I was still not a fan of how the writer(?)/producer(?)/director(?) was blaming people for not buying on day 1 and that's why we may never get a sequel because of low sales at launch. I can't help I never knew the game existed until maybe a week before it released. Hopefully with the resurgence it's getting maybe we can see that sequel after all.
@Melvin Frazier I was a little iffy too, so I decided to watch a Let's Play just in case if it was a game I'd want in the future. And after that I knew I wanted to play it, but not like a "I need to play now!" game. I picked it up when it was free on PS+ last year and I finally got around to it after wanting to clear my backlog. Well worth my time.
Days Gone might actually be the best zombie game ever made. It's certainly the best zombie survival game ever made, with the vast and open world feeling so much more alive than any other game I've played. The environment just feels so wonderfully and completely real. And tackling the hordes is an unrivaled experience!
I only played it on the PS5 and was sorry I didn't support the PS4 version. If you've ever liked any zombie game, or you just like the idea of them, you should play Days Gone (on PS5 or PC, ideally).

The start of the game feels like a difficult survival game and later on you get more powerful and are able to take on the challenges in the World. I liked this power progression as the enemies don't really scale but you get stronger.
Exactly. You’re super weak and vulnerable in the beginning. everything can kill you with one wrong move. By the end you can take on almost anything.
I agree with liking the power progression. When I played on hard 2 even in the late game, you could get killed with one wrong move. It still stayed tense throughout, even though you were a lot stronger.
That is what is supposed to be in these types of games. A sense of progression. I don’t get how ppl expected anything different
@@littv1610 Many games now have level gating or enemies that always scale to your level and as you get more powerful the enemies do as well to keep the difficulty consistent. What I liked about Days Gone is you had to play differently in the beginning by sneaking around hordes and watching your gas, etc. and then later in the game you are rewarded for your progression and can then feel confident in dealing with a horde or being caught out at night.
very underrated, indeed. it's a game that slipped past my radar years ago, until it was dirt cheap on Ps Plus and so i tried it, and was very surprised. the story is fantastic. , the zombies are some of the most menacing and intimidating, (especially the hordes) i have ever experienced from most zombie games. Your heart rate will skyrocket during horde chases lol. Great voice acting all around. Bike riding is awesome. 3rd person combat is very satisfying and enjoyable. A very fun game with substance, a great title all around to come back to once in awhile and enjoy.
Playing days gone with this video playing in the background, this has to be one of my favorite games ever, the story may not be a masterpiece like my other favorites rdr2 and tlou, it still enticed me and kept me playing always wanting to know what happens next, and even if the story was terrible the gameplay alone is enough to keep me playing. This game is a hidden gem and I sincerely hope one day we get a sequel to this already great game

it got quite tedious in the end tho, but that is probably my own fault for playing the game on survival difficulty, having to drive everywhere stops being fun when nearing the end

i agree with that , the game did take a little too long to get to the ending. it could’ve been a little tighter but it didn’t really tarnish view on the game as a whole.
fast travel must be forbidden in games because its ruin the game. game is about driving through the world, if you don't like it, don't play it. I played Skyrim and i was doing everything on foot and i never used horse except for transporting things through mod
@@michaelstark8720 i usually don’t fast travel till i’m at the end of the game. i like to go around exploring before that so i get what you mean by fast travel ruining games.

I’m glad I gave it a chance as from just the original reviews it was in my mind to play. Defiantly one of my favourite games and it’s sad there won’t be a part 2 to improve on the areas that needed it. I do see how the original buggy version turned off people but your right you need to invest 10-15hrs to get into the heart of the game.

Going through it now, I dare say it's a 10/10 for me so far. Love the atmosphere especially playing with a headset, on edge all the time looking around for zombies or an ambush or wolves, clearing out nests etc...

i loved this game and got it on launch and it might be one of my favorite zombie games, for me once i first played it i had no bugs until later in the game and i was stuck at the particular part of the game and thought if i kept going to sleep the next mission would pop up but it never did until an update, but it is still probably one of my favorite games
Thanks for the video and the plug for a Days Gone sequel. After RDR2, this is easily my favorite game ever. I didn’t mind the slow pace, or the time to build up weapons. The bike was cool too. I thought the story was good. Yes, the second half is the best part, but the first half is just fine to me.
If it wasn't for Days Gone, I wouldn't have loved open world games again. Sam Witwer makes this game feel alive and so does everybody else. The character is relatable in so many ways, there is so many events and sequences in the story, side missions, nest exterminations, small random events, and so much more that really make each experience different. The character growth is phenomenal, the story is constantly reeling it in, and I can't stop. Third time playing the story and I really want a sequel, they stopped development because of the hate it got, but I hope and wish people band together and make the sequel happens, it is such an ending that needs more to tell.

One of the most interesting open world games ever made. So much love from the developer post release too. I no longer play on PlayStation but this is the open world game i remember the most fondly on Playstation as it was just so much fun riding the motorbike around everywhere and the hordes of Zombies even seemed intelligent at times.

Because of this video specifically I went back on the PlayStation plus store and re-download days gone just because before about a year ago I tried playing it but because of the slight pacing issue that Luke said I didn’t really get that far into it, now I am just completely thrilled and obsessed with the game, I am at the part right now where Deacon and Sarah get stuck in the cabin and have been playing it religiously just to find out what happens in the end, for me personally I didn’t really start getting interested into the story until the lost lake part of the map was unlocked but now knowing The game has a collectibles section adds so much depth to all of the characters I have met so far, this game and sleeping dogs are some of the best low-key games out there !!!
Paused this game to go on TH-cam and this video came up lol. Absolutely love it, runs perfectly on ps5 and feels extra good with the higher frame rate. The world feels truly lived in with an interesting story. The hordes specifically is a highlight. Haven't felt this tense from a zombie game since maybe last of us on a higher difficulty
So crazy that I just started playing this again on PC and now I'm seeing it popping back up in other places. I love this game and a sequel would be great.

This game is an absolute gem. I love the main character’s story and motivation. Yes it’s the old chestnut: finding lost loves in the post-apocalypse. But the character development and voice acting are really great in my opinion.
This game’s story takes such a hard right turn at the end of the second act . Just when you think you’re reaching the endgame, the map opens up and the story gets WAYYY deeper.
Luke is absolutely correct in saying that the greatest element in the game is the zombie combat. (Sorry “Freakers”)
I’m in the middle of my second play through and I forgot how much fun it is gearing up, planning and executing a massive horde session. There’s even a challenge mode where you can take on endless hordes one after another.
There’s been a lot of fresh buzz about this game lately. Even though this video is a year old, I hope the buzz gains more traction.
As anybody who’s completed this game knows, we’re dying to see where that cliffhanger leads us in a sequel.
As an OTR truck driver, I don't really play games these days. Too busy trying to stay alive in this JACKED up economy & all.
But when things calm down, & I can take weekends off to play, I'll definitely give this game a go...as it'll likely cost around $3.78 at game stop by then.

I remember starting it and getting the feel that the game was tedious because of the bike maintenance slow fetch quests. Around this time the director and Sony started their online beef, but I was pushing through because it was free with ps plus. I used the fast travel and rarely did side content to finish the story so I blew past that second half. In retrospect though, the second half was really good and left me wanting more. A sequel should definitely get made, especially after LOU2 left a sour taste in some of the fanbase. I’ll be going back to this on PC to try to support it some more and I hope others can do the same

@@MrShinyArceus besides the zombies connection, i don’t really see them as similar games. i only played TLoU 1 and most likely will never play part 2 but they are narrative focused games and way more linear so yeah you’d expect those type of games to have a great story. Days Gone story wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t terrible to me. anyways the story wasn’t why i loved the game, it was the gameplay and world that made me really love DG.
This game was so awesome. I played it on a launch PS4 that sounded like a jet engine taking off and the frame drops while riding the bike were into the single digits. Despite the issues, it is still one of my favorite games of all time. I might have to go back through it on the PS5 and see how it runs now.

I remember how I almost shat my pants with my first horde encounter. I was on a hilltop, I think, and there was a shootout, then zombies just started flooding in from one entry but I got stuck on some watchtower. They were fast too.
I’ve beaten this game over 3 times and I’m working on four times just because I love the hordes and end game missions
I struggled to complete it. I've tried so hard to like it but I genuinely thought it was horrific. Characters, script, missions were tragic and the storyline and flashbacks forcing you to spend time with poorly written people was painful. The hordes were amazing and were like 10% of the game

@@poopmaster7166 combat was not the best but I dont care to much about that in an open world. They main thing is exploration and how alive the world is and what I can do in it. Days gone falls apart with its open world content. And story is also pretyy adverage. In terms of gameplay in an open world the core gameplay is getting from point to point B. and the bike game play is pretty good over all its a decent game but nothing amazing.
I’m in the same boat. When I saw that it got that 60fps update for P5 a while back I jumped back in. While at first I was somewhat enjoying it, the writing ultimately killed the game for me. It’s just kinda bad imo. Deacon seems all over the place all the time, and as Luke mentioned, the first 20+ hrs where kind of a slog, so I ended up putting it down. It’s a shame because it definitely has a lot of potential for a sequel that will probably never happen. I enjoyed just riding my bike around and clearing out zombies, but the story and characters weren’t captivating enough to keep me playing.

This is genuinely one of my favorite games I've ever played. I loved everything about it, even the beginning. I actually prefer the beginning. It's once you leave iron Mike's that my enjoyment of the game kinda slopes. But I still even love those parts. I even bought this game on ps4 before I had a ps4, I bought it opening week and I'm so glad I did. Really phenomenal game.

I fell away from this but yet I can’t wait to go back ..seems like it just takes a bit of patience but is a really good game once you put the hours in, which can be the hardest part at first with Days Gone.
Try to get a good fully automatic weapon best early option is the assault rifle from tucker when u reach trust 2. Also make sure to upgrade your bikes fuel capacity. Last but not least do not forget about your skill points there are many great abilities that are vital. Hope u have a better experience👌

I loved Days Gone. I thought the gameplay and story was vastly superior to the Last of Us 2, yet it got horribly burned by games media.
My problem with the game was the characters kind of felt dull and poorly written, which left me uninterested and unable to complete the game. There are a few exceptions but for the most part this was the case for me. Had Deacon been a more captivating better written protagonist I think I would have enjoyed the game a lot more. All that to say that this games writing in comparison to TLOU 2 doesn’t even compare. Naughty Dog is on a totally different level of character development and writing, and that’s coming from someone who generally didn’t love TLOU 2

Dude Days Gone is criminally underrated. IMO one of the best zombie games made, to date. And the hordes, such a AMAZING, INTENSE EXPERIENCE!!! Remember the Saw Mill Horde??!!! Dude, I would honestly take a Days Gone 2 over a TLoU3 or whatever online TLoU they have coming. Hopefully it gets another shot 🙏
It's a fantastic game. I finished it 2 years ago and now I'm playing through it again on SURVIVAL difficulty which really does adds to the excitement. Graphically for it's time it's amazing, the story is great, the mechanics and gameplay as a whole are awesome too! I definitely hope to see a sequel.
9:11 I remember struggling to avoid this horde, there a quest there to get a ipod for the scientist guy in the military faction, and I kept alerting that horde trying to find it
One of the best games I've ever played. Story is amazing, character building is amazing. You may cry a few times with the story. Im 51 and don't play games too well anymore (finger mashing in challenging fights gets me the most), so I played on easy mode. Im wondering how difficult it will be on my next play in hard mode.

I absolutely love this game. It is one of my favorite, if not my favorite game of all time; I loved everything about it. I still can't believe they are not making the sequel to this game; Sony doesn't even know that they have a gold mine with this game. I honestly think he can compete with the last of us if done correctly. I really hope and pray they change their mind and do a days gone 2

"You got to come out swinging from the start" I get this, but this is also a criticism some people had with for example Fallout 4. You walk out of the vault and within minutes you are in power armor wielding a minigun mowing down a deathclaw. If this game started with you murdering a horde in the first few minutes, what is the point of being scared of them, it would loose its value and just become a chore that you'd have to do. Now hordes are really freaky and you run away when you see them, certainly in the beginning when you have not much to fight them with (although the stealth approach with attractors and bombs certainly makes it possible to kill a small horde) and when you later manage to survive being chased by a whole horde it just gives you the best feeling ever.

Gameplay is one thing, but the story and interactions between the characters is so well done too. It's on the level of Last of Us about friendship and love. Simple, yet very touching and sad.
i personally wouldnt say it's anywhere near on the level of last of us, but i am glad that you enjoyed it. Maybe ill give it another shot.

I'm in the middle of playing this game for the first time, it is everything I've ever wanted in a game, it is so under-rated, it deserves a sequel, nuff said. BTW it does help that my name is Matt St.John.
You can 100% take on some of the smaller hordes at the start of the game with just an AK and some traps. Actually some of the most fun since you have to rely on a lot of things other then all the cool toys you can have in the endgame. Also killing just a few hordes gives you some very juicy early game powerhouse weaponry so it's extremely worth it
The beginning was a pain in the ass but my younger brother kept me telling me push through youll love it, and i did. I really got invested into the story
