Back in Romania we learned all this in elementary school. We did walking with books on our heads, we were constantly reminded to breathe through the nose and close our mouths. Makes sense we are some of the most beautiful people in the world lol
I'm not even tripping. I had the worst crooked teeth growing up, they were so embarassing and bad that I couldn't even talk without opening my mouth as little as possible I was so desperate for braces and I eventually got them. They removed two of my upper teeth and now my teeth are striaght and well. But I would find if I didn't wear my retainer then they would move back slowly to their previous position. Then I stumbled upon this guys content and have been following his advice. It's only been a month but I can definitely feel that I expanded my palate as my tongue is no longer unconformtable on the roof of my mouth. Also I have not been needing my retainers and my teeth are going into a better position than the braces put them in. This guy is the real deal. I wish I had known the importance of oral posture earlier. And I'm 20 for those who want to know.

I’ve just started mewing a couple days ago after discovering your channel and have always been fascinated by the Victorian era, so to motivate myself to keep up these new habits I’ll just pretend I’m a duchess. 👸🏻
when I was a really small kid I saw people walking with an open mouth and knew those people were idiots instinctively, ever since I tried to not do this.
This is EXACTLY what I thought a while ago. this rejection of strict traditional rules is what has caused a lot of the messed up faces in this generation. I mean just attend a university lecture nowadays and check the posture of the students. You would be shocked at how much it deviates from normal human posture which is upright, alert, mouth closed and breathing through the nose. No wonder most of the faces are elongated and have crowded messed up teeth.
This may well be one of the most important videos I've seen in my life, and trust me, I've seen many videos; I don't say this lightly. This has the potential to change many lives, maybe even culture.
Thank you very much for sharing these videos. I started following your advice strictly around a year ago (lips closed, tongue on roof of mouth, more chewing) and it has improved the shape of my face. I used to get pain in my lower teeth which I think was them pushing together due to not doing all of the above properly and now this has gone completely. You are a very good man for spreading this message despite the fact that there is little money in it compared to an orthodontist who may do more harm than good and many other parts of modern medicine. In hindsight, I now realise that I spent a lot of time doing strength training, working on other muscles of my body such as legs, back and arms, while completely neglecting the facial muscles. Keep up the good work. You are inspiring to many.
I remember back in Indonesia when we were in elementary and junior high, before we entered the class room we had to stand in line and stand up straight like the military. The teachers would examine our nails, hair and uniform. No slouching allowed. This was everyday! And when we sat in the class room we were also not allowed to slouch and the teachers would scare us with stories like, 'if you slouch, you will be a hunchback when you grow up'. Funnily, when I sit straight, I wouldn't have to look at the keyboard when I type, but when I slouch I don't know where the letters are on the keyboard.
I used to sit so close to the table and hunch over, my mom started using a small book to prop my chest away from the table so I would sit up straight. Aside from that, she also bought me and my brother a posture correcting vest thing. I mean, I don't remember having bad posture but maybe because my mother did her parenting right.
It makes me think of the old wives tale of "not eating late at night" which is a basic version of intermittent fasting - also a lost practice ultimately leading to physiological deterioration.
The Weston A. Price Foundation discusses this from a nutritional point of view. He was a dentist who travelled the world to discover cultures where people consumed traditional foods had healthy jaw and teeth development, and often less disease in general. Cultured foods, Bone Broths, Fermented Cod Liver Oil, Raw Pasture-Raised Meat and Dairy, foods high in natural Vitamin A and D are very important!
We should salute this people who bring awareness to us. They don't sale books about this. But they made it Freely, what I'm saying is they do it and explain to us how to do what are the positive and negative effect of mouth breathin. And also lots of questions that enlighten me about why there's people that attractive and not. This people are great hopefully were hoping that this channel grow and could reach people and be aware on this. Amazing people
Aye you're definitely onto something. My Dad is a Scot and was a drummer for the Black Watch regimental band back in the 80s and my mum is Thai, both would police over my posturing for different reasons growing up. My dad would say all the same things as you mentioned about table manners and posture but also take it a step further with walking and running, probably more influenced from his time in the military. My mum however taught Thai posture which is all very much the same idea with keeping your back straight but due to some cultural differences more emphasis will be made with how you sit on the floor, lie on the ground and stand. What I noticed about that is the Buddhist monks we'd visit (as we were Lay Buddhists), would all have the same posture as what my mum tried to teach me and thinking about it now that might even hark back to an older time.
Speaking of tradition. There's a folk dance in Mexico, Yucatan, where the dancers balance a tray with drinks on their head. It requires alot of precision and balance. This dance is believed to have developed from the Colonial times in Mexico and is a mixture of both Spanish and Indigenous roots.
There's definitely a reason for every tradition. of course we have to be aware of the reason that the tradition exists in the first place, or else we are going to stop doing it and the next generations would have to relearn it. Now that I think about it, this cycle of leaning and forgetting things through generations is probably always going to be a thing.
Yeah like some traditions are stupid and illogical, but some are not and have value. This is one of those valuable traditions, that seems to have been thrown away without inspection.
Traditions sure have reasons, but they are reflections of the society, that produced them. Therefore traditions can be good and humane as well as cruel and unfair. As society changes, some traditions become meaningless and new traditions are created, which is normal. I'm the thinking of the foot binding tradition in ancient China or female circumcision. There are probably reasons behind them, but it's also obvious that women's health and physical comfort (and in case of the circumcision also sexual life) in those societies were/are a very very low priority. Tells a lot about those societies at the given point of time. PS: in the comments 150+ people demand women be housewives to care for their children's postures because "strangers" (meaning professional pedagogues) supposedly won't do that. I'm honestly shocked, that for these people, women's right to professional life is so low in priority, that it's lower in value than someone's posture or teeth shape, And on top that, half of the children, who are supposed to benefit from all that, are GIRLS, who would have no future because of that kind of policy. Talking about being stupid and illogical.
I think what's important is to reexamine every tradition. Don't accept it blindly but also try to figure out if there are merits to certain traditions. Bloodletting bad for example bad. Good Posture for example good. I also think that relearning lost knowledge is something that humans have always had to do and finding ways to avoid this usually accelerates the rate of progress. Stories mitigated having to relearn things, and then bigger groups to pass the story to, and then writing, printing press and now that we have the internet having to relearn things as a species should be a far smaller issue going forward.
My parents told me that too, and they’re from Romania. Their parents taught them this as well, also from Romania. Interesting that many cultures have (or had) this practice
As a mother of two vaccine injured kids we really need this added to the conversation. Listed on the vaccine manufacturer insert is ear infections and sinus infection. Many vaccine injured kids are chronically ill and as such mouth breathing. They also suffer cranial facial nerve damage. Check Forest Maredy’s channel My Incredible Opinion and see his crooked face series. After my daughter received her 4 year old shots she suddenly developed a severe speech issue with lack of control over her tongue. She also developed a gait issue and was collapsing frequently. Chiropractic care and speech therapy have helped but your videos are going to be so helpful. If you are unaware of the vaccine debate please go to Corvelva.it and read the report released in December. That will make a lot more sense as to why kids faces are so deformed now. It’s only getting worse.
My mother was about posture and shutting my mouth. The problem was just she never told me where to put my tongue correctly. Now that I know what is the right tongue position, it’s much easier to sit straight. It’s like a domino effect.
in olden times people didn't do anywhere near the amount of paperwork or sitting at desks like we do now, no computers either so far less hunching over was going on
I am 32 and have only started learning these things now due to finding your channel. It's probably too late for me but i'm trying my best to keep my mouth closed, breathe through my nose and use better posture.
Generally speaking, high heels was worn by women to emphasizing their feminine sexual gesture : all that elegance when they walk, swaying their hips... My father said once, that a century a go in Mainland China, the women from rich families used to have binded foot which called the "Lotus foot". They practically step on their own finger tips... Why was that? It was to strengthen their pelvic muscles, kinda like Kegel exercise... Which led to... you know what 😉😉😉 So, I think the principles of high heels was similar to the Lotus foot. In the other side, French men used to wear high heeled shoes too... Is there any one else can explain better about this fetish kind of thing? 🤓
I mean way back then I wonder how distorted people’s view of love was. People were weirdly obsessed with how others view them which I think was the big motivation for posture and not actual health. Also, back then children were treated terribly, it was normalized to oppress children and make them be seen and not heard. Children were often sold and used as free labor. I’m down with the posture and oral posture being valued and agree that we can normalize prioritizing posture again. Let’s not pretend that those old cultures that normalized child abuse we’re using teaching posture from a place of love or health. It was about how others saw them. Fyi, I do greatly appreciate your research and am so happy that you share your thoughts and findings with us. I will always be honest in this forum.
I was born in 1967, but my mother, born in 1933, instilled in me the desire to sit and walk with correct posture. I notice many people push their heads forward when they walk which causes their shoulders to be pulled forward. They slump forward and look very old.
You are leagues ahead of this crazy dental system /health system and you make 100% common sense which is rare these days. Thank you for getting the word out to all and God Bless you. Also there is more to health with nose breathing than you touch on. Immunity digestion and alot more. God Made us that way for a reason
Has Dr. Mew ever addressed the (what I call) "horizontal midline?" That is, the amount and proportion of upper teeth vs. bottom teeth that are shown when you open your mouth and speak? I've noticed that in older people, more of their lower teeth are exposed, and the upper teeth are covered by the top lip, I think it's due to sagging skin. Conversely, people whose upper teeth are almost completely visible when they speak seem to look better and/or younger, in my opinion. It also holds up better to aging because there's more surface area on the top teeth to cover, giving more time to have both rows still visible. Any thoughts? Links?
Thanks! It's a great video, but it only goes into a vague solution at the very end. Is Dr. Mew saying that mewing can, over time, fix misaligned teeth? Wouldn't pushing on the teeth just move them forward? What if you need to move them down?
Robby Those old high heels where made for the feet in a more comfortable way than modern high heels. Also you tend to straighten up a bit when you wear nice shoes 😅
Adults can make good progress, but you need to be realistic about the time frame. It takes years in children to make real progress, and their bones are more malleable than ours so we really do need to look at the long term with mewing. I've seen significant (but not super obvious,) progress over the past 3 years I've been doing it though, enough to know that the theory is sound. Results seem to get quicker over time as well, and that makes sense seeing as the more room we make to fit the tongue the more force we can apply to the maxilla, so don't despair with the the time frame. The way I look at it is that changes add up over time, and would I rather look and function better in 10 years time, or worse and still be asking these questions.
What’s interesting about Miranda Kerr is despite having 4 premolars removed + braces she still retains excellent body and oral posture. Also living a healthy and active lifestyle helps so much in why she’s still very beautiful.
I have a badly deviated septum that is totally blocking my airways; both of them to be precise. I have crooked teeth as well. I'm a mouth breather and my overall quality of sleep is extremely bad. I can't sleep more than five to six hours at night and sometimes I'm waking up in the middle of the night for no good reason. My sleep is fragmented. Not to mention that I wasn't breastfed. My parents raised me with a "Baby Formula" and with a diet rich in refined carbohydrates. They never gave me the vitamins and minerals I so badly needed. Most of the time I feel depressed, moody, irritated, suicidal, hopeless, and extremely tired. My eyes look tired and they hurt a little. I can feel a non-intense form of pain in my brain that is constantly bugging me. I'm 28 years old and I felt this way my whole life. When I was in school, I couldn't pay attention to anything because of my "ADHD" problem; I was extremely inattentive and restless. My teachers saw me as a moral failure. When I think about my life, I'm surprised that I made it so far... I don't know how much I have left to live, but the rest of my life seems unbearable, like a burden that is almost impossible to be tolerated. There are tens of millions of people, many of them children who go through the same thing but not so many people seem to notice. Those who are running our medical systems don't give a damn about 'Orthodontic Education'. Millions of people are intensely suffering. It's more than a severe form of suffering; it's a living hell. And I believe that if we go on like this, Western civilization will fall in no more than a few decades. We have to work with talented engineers, including scientists, to build a device that forces our faces to develop properly. We, the people, have to mobilize ourselves and do it, because our governments abandoned us.
You pose some good points to explore further in this clip. I have reflected on the social/cultural origins of eating habits, often equating the origin of manners with economic growth (dining sets as signs of superfluous goods within the middle class, etiquette as status symbol, etc.). By chance, have you read The History of Manners, by Norbert Elias?
But my friend, I believe that there are some Asian countries In which making noise while eating is seen as polite, supposedly connotes that you're enjoying the food
But those countries also have traditions like sitting upright in a position for hours at a time from the old times for parties, weddings, theatre, school etc.
In Japan Korea China Etc maybe on them but in my country Philippines my parents thought us to not make any noise while eating. And shut our mouth while chewing. I guess Asia is very Big to generalize there's a lot conservative Practice in Asia which still exist however you can not see it from Urban areas. Most conservatives people who practice good way of eating are in Rural areas or Provinces.
I wish I had access to the world wide web when I was 18. So many many very useful things which we did not got told, as our parents came from the old 68 ers, hippie area. They werebrought up different than me and my generation ( usually), but they not tought us things like sit straight, etc. I was tought goodmanners in a way to be social, helpful, tidy. But all this old fashioned things based on experiences which now get a big retro ( hopefully) we sie not new. We had Grunge and Nirvana, slobby tie died oversize clothes, were wild and free but now I would love to knew all of theses things when I was young. Elevanting myself. Am in my 50 th century on earth, and well…. 😅
To those who are interested in correct posture, check out the Postural restoration institute. Sitting up straight and maintaining a long and tall neck is a good start. But if you are an adult with incorrect posture, chances are high that your posture is being maintained by your eyes or your teeth. And if that dosen't get sorted out, all your efforts will be futile.
:-)). :-)). Oh yess....I was very strong and sometimes hard reminded to a perfekt, straight Body-Posture! Head up, Back straight a.s.o., also when we were sitting for our meals at the Table! And later I was very thankful about my "Education" in Posture and my good Manners! It looks much better and the whole Expression and Attitude to other people makes a big Difference - as you said! I'm such a "Hippie" , and I'm proud that I was exactly growing up and became adult in that Time, I'm born in 1955. It was a great, revolutionary Time, but we were not so .... laying around so powerless as you said.. We are straight and prefer a straight posture too! Okay, maybe we are "hanging around" sometimes ;-)) ...true, but the Girls (and Guys) are mostly very self controlled how they are looking to the Community and the "normal People"! :-) Proud and creative, You only have to look to the Fashion at this Time - selfmade and crazy, and CARNABY Street and KINGS ROAD and also Amsterdam with his wonderful Shops.... They are our/my Favourites! ;-).

For how long have you been mewing? I've started 3 weeks ago and I'm 14 years old. I'm still struggling getting my tounge up there, so how did you get your tounge up there.
I have a scoliosis and I breath through mouth. I see there is much truth behind this concept, one of things I have noticed is that when I breath with close mouth through nose there is more air that gets in, I fell like I get some oxygen boost and i feel my brain gets invigorated as well.. so could oxygen be the big part of the secret behind the concept because it's the very main source to keep us alive and in a good health. I relate much to what's being said here. The open mouth posture makes you look sluggish as well I've also read that it's the good to keep the correct posture sice it's a discipline for humans who aspire to achieve there best and work hard for better tomorrow and evolve ♡ I need to correct my scoliosis now and start a new life
I think it's probably more of a stereotype than anything to be honest. We also overall don't seem to place as much importance on cosmetic dental treatments as other cultures like American does, but now I'm the one stereotyping, haha.
I always ask the same question. On BBC you see a lot of Brits with bad teeth. Why? No one seems to be able to answer. You hardly see any person with bad teeth here in the Netherlands.
I grew up admiring African women carrying huge loads on their heads. From a small child, a little girl is given something to carry on her head, copying mummy. It is very convenient. It is like having a third hand with which to carry things, and you can carry huge loads on your head, because it is directly in line with your spine, it doesn't pull you sideways or backwards.
Nice to see this info on youtube. Wow love the historical connections. I didnt practice this growing up and my teeth are a little crowded. How much of this can be reversed?
Question unrelated to this video. Should the back of the tongue ideally rest on the soft palate? As far as covering the hard palate I have no problems but when doing a cheesy smile swallow (to get my tongue to cover the soft palate) my airways get completely blocked, leaving me only with the chance to do it for a short duration of time each time I do it.
The back of the tongue needs to be up to expand the maxilla in that area, but you need to lower the back part of the tongue a little so that you can still feel it in the airway while still being able to breath. There's a balance between having the tongue up applying pressure and still being able to function well enough to be able to hold the tongue there long term. Try to keep feeling your tongue blocking the airway but back it off until you find a position where you can breath without having to think too much about it. That's the position where you need learn to hold the tongue. Over time as you expand you'll be able to put more and more of the back part of tongue up on the roof of the mouth, but right now you need to just get as much of it up as your maxilla will allow you to fit while still being able to breath and go about your day.
Dr Mew I've seen someone people recommend to chew with the mouth open for better posture, no one professional just people on forums and such, is there any truth to this?
In URSS early 1900’s, I read designers were making chairs with a back angle of 85 degrees forward, so people would not “sit back and relax”, and would have to sit very straight and hate the sitting position, stay on their feet and be pro-active for the community. Now we have crazy comfy chairs in which we look like spineless marshmallows. Also school system with its 6h to 8h sitting down on chair crystallizes the hips and people can’t move their cervix and be great sexual partners later.
Similar to other things, whether it is diet (animal fats, etc), the way they lived (towns, in social groups, etc), or even morals (STD prevention). People are waking up, there was good reason for these things.

Love this comment.
Yes and some are super valuable and some are not, but like the old saying goes, “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!” Lol
You sir are changing the world for the better.
This should definitely be part of the conversation. I know so many who have had vac damage to them and their kids.
My mother was about posture and shutting my mouth. The problem was just she never told me where to put my tongue correctly. Now that I know what is the right tongue position, it’s much easier to sit straight. It’s like a domino effect.
in olden times people didn't do anywhere near the amount of paperwork or sitting at desks like we do now, no computers either so far less hunching over was going on
Yeah, i fucking hate school all I do in school is sit on my ass all day..
Fuck school.
I am 32 and have only started learning these things now due to finding your channel. It's probably too late for me but i'm trying my best to keep my mouth closed, breathe through my nose and use better posture.
My friends over 50 have has good results with mewing.
I greatly appreciate these facial posture videos . Thankyou Mike Mew

women balancing books and glasses on their head to correct their posture...whilst wearing high heels which give you bad posture FAIL
A. J. R. Wilde and in their underwear/bathing costumes...why?
That’s what I was thinking lmao
Mira Rami yeah true.
Chinese women had their feet bound in order to disable then and keep them subservient.
Is anyone else here keeping the mewing thing a secret from their friends so then in 2 years time you can be like... BOOM!

This is an exquisite video that carried a number of very interesting topics. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much for sharing so useful information with all of us!

Has Dr. Mew ever addressed the (what I call) "horizontal midline?"
That is, the amount and proportion of upper teeth vs. bottom teeth that are shown when you open your mouth and speak?

LancesArmorStriking your asking a different question now
YungYokaiWatch
Good point. Thanks anyway!
But yea just by simply mewing your teeth will become strait and your face will be more attractive
I am curious how high heels affect body posture. I am skeptical that it is healthy.
They're not healthy
Robby Those old high heels where made for the feet in a more comfortable way than modern high heels. Also you tend to straighten up a bit when you wear nice shoes 😅
Studies show they cause a lot of damage
Amazing lesson ad always Dr. Mew!! Please could you tell us more about adults and how much an adult can actually change with a real effort.
My friends over 50 have had good results.
Emilio Zavala no, its just normal to them. They dont see it as rude or gross or good or bad. Just something normal 😁
Only slurping but loud ass chewing and open mouth I don't think so
Asian in asia here. Not in my circle. Thats just rude and annoying.

Mike I love you keep up the good work
My mom used to say, "Don't hang your mouth open, or a fly might fly in there!" haha
If my mums family ever saw me or my sister with our mouth open they'd ask if we were catching flies! Needless to say we closed our mouths real quick 😂
I had crooked teeth and had to have braces, I was told it was due to my teeth being too big. Is this true or was it because my palate was too small?
The latter most likely

In Brazil we hear from our parents to not let the mouth open to not let any mosquitoes get in.
The open mouth posture makes you look sluggish as well I've also read that it's the good to keep the correct posture sice it's a discipline for humans who aspire to achieve there best and work hard for better tomorrow and evolve ♡ I need to correct my scoliosis now and start a new life
Why crooked teeth is naturally prevalent amongst the Brits though?
While on South Asia, South East Asia, and Africa, it isn't?
I think it's probably more of a stereotype than anything to be honest. We also overall don't seem to place as much importance on cosmetic dental treatments as other cultures like American does, but now I'm the one stereotyping, haha.
very common in Japan; what do they have in common? both developed countries
I always ask the same question. On BBC you see a lot of Brits with bad teeth. Why? No one seems to be able to answer. You hardly see any person with bad teeth here in the Netherlands.
Because we're not Jew'd into paying for little Timmy's orthodontics when he doesn't need them in reality.
Diet. Western countries eat a lot of sugar and white flour. Eastern countries eat more mineral rich food, which makes teeth stronger.
I grow up with my Grandparents I agree also they are very strict in eating. They will say if you make any noise during meal. When your mouths open
In Brazil, people say "fecha a boca senão entra mosquito" which means "close your mouth or else a fly will get in it"
Nice to see this info on youtube.
Gray thank you very much for your ellaborate response! Very clear.
The tip should be at the ridges
My mom used to say "close your mouth or flies will get in" unfortunately, she didn't understand that I couldn't breath well that way.
Do you have any research on yellow teeth? I never drink tea and alcohol, never smoke, but my teeth is not white for some reason.
I struggle with sitting posture largely because I am too tall to plant my feet squarely on the floor on nearly all modern furniture.
What about diet? Weston A Price studied facial structure in communities which transitioned from a traditional diet to a modern one.
Awesome video
