I have an identical twin sister who has less symptoms of craniofacial distrophy. I drew and painted a lot growing up (still do) which probably meant I was looking down at paper a lot more than my twin. My teeth were more crooked and I have dimples (which I believe is due to the muscles being shorter than the bones which had probably lengthened) but my sister has better teeth and barely there dimples. I then had braces (RIP) and my twin did not. I have a gummy smile which I hate and my sister does not. I would love a consultation with you mike, I have completed the form on your website and recognise you’re very busy. Two identical twin girls (21 years old) who have different severities of craniofacial distrophy would be an interesting case study. Thanks for everything.

thank you, excellent video. personally i have used surgical tape to keep my lips closed during the night, in conjunction with stretching my mentalis muscle to improve the issue of lower lip sticking out/rolling forward. you can best stretch by manuall pushing your lower lip into your mouth over your tongue (placed in front of your lower teeth). by lengthening that muscle it is easier to fall into the correct lip posture. it is uncomfortable and harder to sleep in the beginning. then, after a few weeks you will start to keep lips together more without the tape. the "reminder" techniques in this video would be extremely helpful in making the correction. other postural exercises that have also helped me in this way are to avoid sucking on straws or whistling, which are habits that hurt the form of your tongue, cheek and lip muscles
hey man ive got a Q for u , i didnt understand the actuall idea in this video /// i have a lower lip sticking out also . so does mike mew say in this video that stretching your lower lip like hes preseting will solve that problem over time>>>? does it work for u?
@@bloxZ yes, over the course of some years all of the above has greatly improved my lips and cheek posture. tape over lips while sleeping is excellent, i almost never breathe through my mouth when sleeping anymore. i think it is also important to learn to sleep on your back with a minimal pillow, this seems to align airways better for natural nasal breathing and keeps your neck and spine in a better position too. i also have less shoulder pain since i quit side sleeping. as for lower lip in particular, the mentalis muscle being tight between your lower lip and chin is the great hurdle to correction. use your tongue to push out between your lower lip and chin, while using your hand to hold your lip back. you will feel the intense stretch in that small muscle. this stretch alone will hugely accelerate lip posture correction, but you must also take the behavioral component into account, and learn to keep mouth closed
Thanks for these videos. I've been mewing for almost 3 weeks now and have noticed a huge improvement. my right cheek hasn't been rounded like my left (was hollow-like), but now it is shaping like my left cheek. I have been trying to just lie on my back to help my face to be in balance. I don't have the downturn lips anymore, my mouth shape is more uniform ( palate) and even my lips shape is getting more symmetrical.
How much did you manage to mew? Like did you keep it up all day and night or only when you really thought of it? And did you do any other exercises added to mewing?
@@NuzhatSabrinaI'm an adult (full grow up). the cheek formation is subtle. The downturn lips. That was is very noticeable. I don't have it anymore. I wouldn't recommend it to do it like I did lol. I was multitasking so all day long and when I went to sleep I prepared myself to be in position. I would wake up during the night. It is tough to keep my lower jaw closed, but I'm getting there. My teeth hurt a lot during the first days (but my mouth hurt a lot when I got my retainers as a kid, so I was why not go thru the same hell as I did?). The mouth roof was hurting too cuz of the constant mewing to have a larger palate. Mine is still no perfect, but it is wider. Do what people , on youtube, recommend. Lots of postural problems related to my spine ( I have scoliosis, kyphosis and hiper lordosis). My hands sometime feels numb or tickly... and so I keep on with this list. I had nose surgery when somebody told me I was a mouth breather because I had deviated nose bone and I had chin surgery... And, as you said, after that my face look fuller and better... but I can’t keep my lips shut yet...soooo difficult,,, I’m 38 now. I want to meet you, I’m a little far away (Argentina). Love how you bring life and concious to what is the truth.
Watching these videos, there is much emphasis on causes of 'long faces' with restricted forward growth. In my own case I believe that a number of contributing factors: ie mouth breathing, pets in and passive smoking in childhood home, extractions of ×4 molars before puberty (and x4 wisdom teeth aged 18) have resulted in a recessed maxilla, underdeveloped mandible, small upper palate v-shaped bite and the appearance similar to 'short face growth pattern' - I'm an otherwise healthy individuals who has never suffered from 'hypodontia'. I believe that I was genetically dispositioned to have a shorter mid-face, but that that I received badly formulated practice from a UK registered orthodontist in the mid-eighties.
Same bro. Mines expanded on my right side tho more since that my good side. My left side is eventually catching up with my right but its seems like that’ll take 2 more months. Hey Dr.Mike Mew. I respect your work and dedication. I must have a question. 1. My back part of tounge should rest where. Like I reach back, there is a curve/buldge towards the inside of mouth. Should my back tounge push this buldge or something else even back then that. 2. How to mew while sleeping. Like have that force on the roof I have spend countless researching and trying to make mewing a habit and I have improved a lot. But still the few things trouble me. Btw, just wanted to thank for your amazing dedication you put to improve people's life and giving them hope. Only very few among us can do that 😀 Cheers
I watched a video on mewing and it said that you should say/hold the word "sing"/"Siiinnnnggg" and that helps you identify where you should press up with your tongue
1. Yes, the position is the ng part of the word sing. Pressure on this will, in theory, separate the transverse Palatal suture and encourage bone deposition in this area to grow the face forward. 2. While sleeping you are not conscious of tongue position, so mouth taping or wearing a chin strap will give you a better chance of keeping the whole of your tongue against the full length of your palate. Hope that helps. Happy mewing!
When I had braces as a teen I LOVED having rubber bands to hold my teeth together at night, my lips would stay together and I slept so well. I always wished I could have kept those but I got my braces off and haven't slept right since lol
@Gerard O'Brian Me too, I can't mew pose going to sleep b/c I can't get enough air through my nose, my breathing is 3x as deep otherwise I can't get to sleep

I've been Mewing since December last year, am 29 now and even am still noticing results in facial posture. Tongue is always on roof of the mouth, I can move it out of position and feels like a magnet is pulling it back in place. The biggest problem is the lips, I am struggling with this. If lips ain't sealed it pulls your jaw slightly open, and trust me it will slowly start becoming more and more apparent. Although I made results, it's frustrating being unable to overcome this. I now got more motivation to really push myself to keeping lips closed.
I remember to hold my lip together all day ... But my tongue looses its grip and slowly comes down Followed by the lips and jaw when I start to fall asleep!!! I don't think a tape is helpful when tongue and jaw falls as well because anyways the weight pulls my lower face down.. I hope it made sense!

Same. I've actually been told that I look better everytime they see me. (I meet those relatives once or twice a year) If someone's curious, I do tongue chewing and chintuck on the daily.
@@LilMissae try to lift the back of your tongue on the roof of your mouth and hold it there as long as possible. Do this continously throughout the day and every single day for 6 - 12 months.
wow. i knew that the maxilla moves up & forwards with mewing but i still had some unanswered questions. that transformation really helped me understand the skeletal change that happens after mewing for a long period. you can clearly tell that the maxilla moves forwards from the change in her nose. you can also see the mandible following along, swinging up. the length of the mandible doesn't seem to have changed much but because it is swung higher than before the chin protrudes and makes the side profile look like a different person.
In Germany and DACH countries i suggest the tape "Hansaplast Sensitive". A 5 cm (2 in) strip, touch the adhesive side a little to reduce the stickiness and place it vertically in the middle of the mouth right below the nose. That works well.
The main issue within lip taping is that while you are breathing through your nose, your tongue and facial position is as if you were breathing through your mouth. What tape basically is is giving your body an extra muscle at night to close your lips. As you can see, your lips will be together but as you sleep, your jaw will be far apart. Basically breathing through your mouth with your mouth closed.
You get a much better sleep with the mouth taped closed though. I used to have chronic fatigue, would wake up exhausted, needing naps all the time. It was next to impossible just to function. Started taping my mouth closed and for the first time in years woke up before my alarm went off, actually feeling like I had enough sleep! Apparently our brains need “nitric oxide” (something like that) and it’s made in the nose. If we get starved of it all night it can really mess stuff up. I don’t know, but whatever it is, taping my mouth closed was a game changer for my sleep quality :D
I find it easy to keep my lips sealed while I'm sleeping on my back. Of course I got rid of the pillow and I have been sleeping without it since high school. As an added benefit I've actually slept much better and faster once I slept without it. Do you think this could be a factor in how easy or hard it would be to keep the lip-seal?
On your back, dr. Mew made a mistake here obviously, sleeping on side or stomach makes mewing over night impossible, rounds your spine and CROOKS your teeth as pillow is pressing against you jaw & cheeks, he's wrong about this and I really don't understand why he said this ...

Doc Mike, you and your father have blessed many people, you have my thanks!!!!!
From ur channel , i think u have a good jaw
I’m doing well with the tongue position, but I have had 6 teeth removed as a teenager and braces 3 times in life. The last one Ike was at 46 and it gave me a wider smile. I’m still have trouble closing my lips. Glad you brought all this up!!

Hard mewing is truly achieved when you lip seal while sleeping! Think about it it's 8-10 hours!
thank you, excellent video. personally i have used surgical tape to keep my lips closed during the night, in conjunction with stretching my mentalis muscle to improve the issue of lower lip sticking out/rolling forward. you can best stretch by manuall pushing your lower lip into your mouth over your tongue (placed in front of your lower teeth). by lengthening that muscle it is easier to fall into the correct lip posture. it is uncomfortable and harder to sleep in the beginning. then, after a few weeks you will start to keep lips together more without the tape. the "reminder" techniques in this video would be extremely helpful in making the correction. other postural exercises that have also helped me in this way are to avoid sucking on straws or whistling, which are habits that hurt the form of your tongue, cheek and lip muscles
Oh! Thanks for the reminder about the straws. I had forgotten.
hey man ive got a Q for u , i didnt understand the actuall idea in this video /// i have a lower lip sticking out also . so does mike mew say in this video that stretching your lower lip like hes preseting will solve that problem over time>>>? does it work for u?
@@mensb1936 thx!
How old are you? How often/long did you hold your tongue position each day?
Slowly and with time, you will see the changes.
@@timeless9820 the roof of your mouth hurt?! Sounds like you mewed hard! I'm an adult too, taking inspiration from your positive feedback :)
@@NuzhatSabrina no,no. My teeth hurt cuz of the readjustment of the palate. my front teeth were going inward. Now are more straight. Like I said I was mewing pretty much all day while multitasking but my main focus was mewing. If you don't want to suffer pain just do it slowly and for a couple of hours? check the youtube channels of other people showing results after a year or a couple of months.
I am having an increase in my results by intermittent fasting. Because it promotes the production of Human Growth Hormone. Which is one of the main factors of bone development and health.

You’re making history sir and I hope the establishment doesn’t succeed in silencing you.
I wish I had met you Dr Mew when I was little, I’m a mouth breather (I realized that when I turn 25 yo), my theeth are almost all gone (since I had caries every week), my saliva had an acid ph so now I’m suffering with very small palates (ogival palate), none of the theeth are mine.

I honestly cant believe it but my narrow palate has actually expanded so my tongue can fit in 3 months.
Same bro. Mines expanded on my right side tho more since that my good side. My left side is eventually catching up with my right but its seems like that’ll take 2 more months. I was advised to apply more pressure on the left side from my MyoFunctional therapist. But, I’ve been doing this for 6 months and the results are good

Like have that force on the roof
I have spend countless researching and trying to make mewing a habit and I have improved a lot. But still the few things trouble me.
Btw, just wanted to thank for your amazing dedication you put to improve people's life and giving them hope. Only very few among us can do that 😀
Cheers
I watched a video on mewing and it said that you should say/hold the word "sing"/"Siiinnnnggg" and that helps you identify where you should press up with your tongue
1. Yes, the position is the ng part of the word sing. Pressure on this will, in theory, separate the transverse Palatal suture and encourage bone deposition in this area to grow the face forward. 2. While sleeping you are not conscious of tongue position, so mouth taping or wearing a chin strap will give you a better chance of keeping the whole of your tongue against the full length of your palate. Hope that helps. Happy mewing!
@@sheryla54Thanks for reply. I am not a native English speaker so when I speak Ng part, my tounge does not touch the roof of mouth.

When mewing for several months is positively changing my face
1:33 her jaw is just more forward in the after photo. You can see the hinge or back of the jaw line move forward
I now got more motivation to really push myself to keeping lips closed.
just what I was struggeling with. I will study this work.
My lips get chapped when I keep them sealed. I have pretty big lips. Should I pout them a little to keep them moist?

This is exactly what I needed more specifically the not using chin muscles. I have a very upward swing chin in comparison to the bone.
With the lips taped shut, the teeth don't separate as much as they could without the tape.
Thank you Mike and John Mew!!

Your tongue presses against roof of your mouth which keeps the teeth and mouth together

When someone says you got stink breath 10:02 Its the upper lip
wow. i knew that the maxilla moves up & forwards with mewing but i still had some unanswered questions. that transformation really helped me understand the skeletal change that happens after mewing for a long period. you can clearly tell that the maxilla moves forwards from the change in her nose. you can also see the mandible following along, swinging up. the length of the mandible doesn't seem to have changed much but because it is swung higher than before the chin protrudes and makes the side profile look like a different person.
i always try to keep my lips sealed, but my nose is always congested, so my only other option in breathing through the mouth.
Allergy medicine daily
In Germany and DACH countries i suggest the tape "Hansaplast Sensitive". A 5 cm (2 in) strip, touch the adhesive side a little to reduce the stickiness and place it vertically in the middle of the mouth right below the nose. That works well.
How my teeth are supposed to be together?
Normal bite with an overbite or my front teeth should be touching
i need an answer too
Im pretty sure it’s back teeth closed with over bite, front is so unnatural.
@@Ivansthename My overbite is quite terrible, so it hurts to even try and make my lower jaw reach my upper jaw which is forward.
i like how he is breathing through his mouth while explaining how to breath through your nose
10:52 If you're not doing this, what are you mewing?
Any further thoughts or answers after 3 years?
Looking good Dr. Mew! :)
Long story short- I should sleep on my back or on side?
Yeah i don't understand this as wel i thought sleeping on your side causes assymetry?
On your back, dr. Mew made a mistake here obviously, sleeping on side or stomach makes mewing over night impossible, rounds your spine and CROOKS your teeth as pillow is pressing against you jaw & cheeks, he's wrong about this and I really don't understand why he said this ...
Sleep on your back unless you're on heroin
Mike Mew, I need to keep my lips shut for so many reasons, and they are all good like this one!😍
