My name is Izuru Kira. I'm 200 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Soul Society, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Gotei 13, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

I can imagine Izuru's Bankai probably turns Wabisuke's power into an area of effect. The closer you get to Izuru, the heavier your body becomes, the more difficult it is to move or breathe, and his weapon would become a scythe. Full on Grim Reaper vibes, of this incredibly mournful man with a scythe slowly meandering towards you as literally lose the ability escape or even turn away the closer he gets to you. Fits with Izuru's philosophy of 'I hate to do this but I have no other choice', how Bankai's work, and it also ties in to how I imagine Izuru's zanpakuto became what it was. The power to make whatever it cuts heavier probably manifested from some subconscious desire of 'I don't want to be doing this, please don't make it harder on me', and having a Bankai where just him standing there leaves you unable to move would be the ultimate manifestation of that. Also fits with Kubo stating how its creepy, sickening, and horrifying, turning Izuru into a literal manifestation of death coming for you.

Fatal injuries are inconsistent in Bleach. XD
Izuru - missing ~60% of his torso - survives
Momo - stabbed in the chest by multiple captains - survives
Hiyori - cut in half - survives
Gin - 1 slash, 1 stab, arm ripped off - dies
Rukia explained that vitality is dependent on spiritual energy. The more spiritual energy they have, the more damage they can take and the longer it takes for them to die. Also, if they didn't get healed, Hiyori and Momo would have died. Same with Rangiku when she got her side ripped out by Aion, Ichigo when Aizen cut him in half in the SS arc, etc.
Gin is the same. It still took him a couple minutes to die. Had Unahana, Isane, Orihime, maybe even Hanataro or Kira been around, they probably could have saved him. Depending on the internal damage Aizen's spiritual pressure did.
I fully understand that survivability relies on being healed. XD
It is explained at some point - I don't remember when - that injuries that are normally considered fatal to humans may not always be to souls/shinigami.
But the different types of injuries sustained, what is survived and what isn't seems inconsistent in Bleach. (I just kinda' wish Gin had survived to offer further character development for Rangiku and Izuru, if nothing else, he was my favourite character too)
@@shirenui144 fatal damage seems circumstantial unless it's the head or the two vital points, the Soul Sleep and Soul Chain. It probably depends on how much energy they already spent (since their mana bar kinda doubles as their health bar) and how they were injured and by whom. If stabbed, where? If slashed, how deeply and where? What organs were damaged and how bad? That's why general slashes and stabs, although can be heavy damage, aren't necessarily fatal. We also know that when stabbing or cutting, the attacker's spiritual pressure is pumped into the attack to rampage and the victim has to suppress it erode it using their own spiritual pressure.
For example, the reason Yamamoto was confident that he was holding Aizen during their brief fight was because he could sense the spiritual pressure Aizen was pumping into his guts through his Zanpakuto. Even if Yamamoto couldn't see, hear, taste, touch or smell Aizen, there was no mistaking that spiritual pressure inside him. So, for instance, the reason Momo's stabs were fatal at all was likely due to the power difference since the first stab was from Aizen and the second, Bankai Toshiro. Otherwise it likely wouldn't have been nearly as severe.
The slash Gin got wasn't just done by a Transcendent being (who's mere touch could erase his Konpaku, his soul form) but would have tore through multiple organs since Aizen's sword was already impaling him.

The fact that Kubo stated in an interview that the effects of Kira's Bankai would be completely revolting, and the how gruesome the fights in the TYBW arc got, makes me really curious about how brutal it's power would be.
Izuru was one of my favorites of the Lieutenants, so if they do another novel, I think he would be a good choice as the main character, especially considering the author of CFYOW also wrote the short story where Kira fought Shaz Domino.

My belief as to what his bankai would be is it makes his enemies look malnourished and weak like Wabisuke's spirit. It be so bad that moving alone would break your bones and tear your muscles. But it'd cause kira to gain a weighted ball and chain that increases in weight as his enemies get lighter.

Momo saw Aizen as like a father figure, Shuhei saw Tosen as a friend, Izuru on the other side probably didn't share such a deep bond with Gin, since both of them kind of keep to themselves which was probably the reason why he was able to overcome the situation more easily
They were quite the close coworkers, but nothing too deep.
Not to be pervy or tasteless but i am pretty sure she had sexual feelings as well so i dont agree with father daughter thing she looked up to him admired him but she was if not in love with him totally because she totally ignored toshiru who is in love with her religating him to the background and i know aizen hypnosis is extremely powerful but even though she knew toshiro all her life knew him and his character so well she read a letter and was immediately convinced to kill him just because she got vague letter from Aizen
Also izuru and gin are closer than you think i believe gin talked to him alot more than is shown they also clicked cause they are similar and he totally admired revere and respect him this is also seen with him willing to kill momo for insulting gin even though he and momo are such close friends who grew up together and he may even had romantic feelings towards her and also in the way he had such a difficult time overcoming the betrayal
Wabisuke is my favorite shikai in the series. Really such a shame that we didn't get to see it's bankai.
I noticed most of the shinigami that have this aversion to combat were survivors of the giant hollow attack that slaughtered students.

What if tekking pulled the ultimate prank and took the footage of all those rukia video, and compiled them into 1+hr video with matching thumbnail, and the changes in his outfit from one video to the next are never addressed?

I'd assume Kira's bankai would be something like "anything in range of my bankai's AoE has its weight slowly increased until eventually it gets crushed by itself"

Mayuri made Kira into a scientific Hollow. Mayuri is in the shadow of Aizen and Urahara.
Izuru has genuinely my favorite Zanpakto ability. It’s super straight forward, but being able to double the weight of your opponent (even while blocking with his sword) is so broken.

I think mayuri was trying to revive the dead. So he started with kira. Who's more dead than alive so he made him into an cyborg zombie.
I call Mayuri He. He has the technology but went for cost effective because the budget was blown on a light suit...HE listed it as Combat Gear but frankly he just wanted to look cool. He could have turned Kira into a Mod Soul or anything really. He is fickle.

@@zerokura it's even funnier in the light novel during the engagement of rukia and renji. Kira become an teacher after the war and yorioichi even wondered how can he be alive. She's so curious about kira's hole in his torso that she force herself to take a look at it while kira refuses. The funny part is when the students get in saw them in an inconvenient position and after the next day rumors spread out everyone thinks kira is having an affair with yorioichi.

His Zanpakuto's explanation/story is one of my favourite.
Glad the light novel expanded on him.
Kira didn't just decapitate Abirama he basically pulled his head off with his hook blade. It was legit the darkest moment in Bleach for me. The way they cut away to black as Kira makes the motion, and you hear the noise, and then you see Abirama's head just roll forward. It really felt like one of the true "death's" in the series like it left so little, and yet so much to the imagination. So often you see folk's get impaled, slashed, battered to a pulp etc...but a straight up brutal decapitation?

I know I said this before but the more I hear tekking talking about characters and world building bits, the more I think he would enjoy Overlord. That anime has a deep world and an even deeper light novel

izuru and gin have the strangest captain & lieutenant relationship. every other relationship is pretty easy to understand, but kira and gin?
when you see izuru in the flashback to when he, renji, and momo were still in the academy, kira was this semi sociable and popularish guy (reminds me of ukitake in yamaji's flashback of him as a student), but in the present timeline, he looks like hes been on a crystal meth bender for months. maybe gins facade of being creepy and mysterious took its toll on kira too.
The Chicken head cut gave me chills.
Izuru is an extremely underrated character in the manga. I am so glad he got fleshed out more in the anime.
His dark philosophy on warfare and combat is his defining trait along with him punctuating that by showing no mercy with his specific executioners Zanpakuto. But he still has a moral compass best seen when he denounced himself as a monster for pulling his blade on Momo. His fate of ending up a zombie/cyborg is painful but to be expected given his injuries. Still, he managed to keep his own morals even agreeing with Yoruichi that their system is flawed and wondering with her at what other lies they were told about Soul Society's history in the aftermath of the Tokinada crisis. They sure have become the two top Shinigami openly challenging the status quo by Rukia and Renji's wedding.

What if the tombstone on Wabisuke is Izuru’s Bankai? My theory is that the tombstone is placed on the opponent’s back and as the opponent feels guilt or regret it grows and becomes heavier, eventually burying them alive
That reminds me of something they did during the Salem Witch Trials, where they would stack heavy stones on people's chests until they either died or confessed

@@BlazerExists "Witch Trials" was used after the fact to water down history. "Witch Hunts" is more appropriate.
Banki idea: the opponent is bound to the ground by gravity while Izuru is bound and forced to watch them. When the enemy is bound a guillotine appears above them as do two spectral executioners. The executioners will then begin piling stone on top of the blade,eventually when the blade becomes heavy enough it will fall and kill the enemy. The number of stones is different every time it’s used and even Izuru doesn’t know the how many it will take. This banki cannot be stopped by Izuru until the enemy has been executed, however it can be stopped if an outsider attack of a riatsu more than 2X Izurus hits both executioners.

I have my own idea that came about, something like [The Lock] from Jojo, where while in radius of him, your internal regrets and constantly weighing you down, while making contact physically weighs you down.
With the pain he is in after the surgery and his sword name meaning despair, I think his banki would have to deal with torture, like berserk level of morid pain.....it would activate affect a large area, whoever is in it would get tortured in different ways until the sword has fed on a certain amount or pain and dispear.... when I say torture I mean the most painful stuff you can think of....or instead of torture it could be different types of executions...over and over again until you go mad, and wish for death, as soon as you wish for death the banki grant's your wish

Hiyori was the Squad 12 Lieutenant, under Kirio then Kisuke. She just liked to harass Shinji.

Izuru Kira is low-key one of the scariest of the lieutenants. The way he executed Abirama was made way more brutal after Tekking explained it.

I like to imagine that Izuru's Bankai is like a miasma that he can warp into any shape he wants like what Byakuya can do. Anything it touches is constantly doubling in weight.

Since Izuru's sword is about punishment/penitence, I just assumed his Bankai would be an execution ground with some horrific effects. I imagine something like Shunsei's but instead of it being a play, it would be a series of torture leading to a execution at the end. Which definitely plays into what Kubo said about it being kind of repugnant.
So, that doesn't rly fit with his mentality of hating combat and not reveling in or enjoying violence. His shikai is all about not inflicting damage, but rather a shut down effect, up until a single final blow only if necessary. I'd think it'd be moreso dark for him and just an amping up, like, one I saw in the comments earlier was that it'd be an area where the closer you get to him the faster your weight increases, and the blade becomes just a reaper scythe, so he slowly walks up and just executes you, the grim and inescapable march of death

I know that they aren’t exactly lieutenants, but it would be cool if we had a video for yamichika of the 11th division and hanataro of the 4th division because they are both prominent characters
After you talk about the three remaining lieutenants, and possibly Rukia, you should talk about the visords who used to be lieutenants, Lisa, Hiyori, and Mashiro(and Hachigen if you want to count him)

izaru was always one of my favorite lieutenants if not my all time favorite hes got a cool design I love his personality and character and we even share the same philosophys or opinions of war and battle. I see a lot of myself in him and hes got one of the coolest shikais and abilities in the series I wish we could have seen his bankai.

I would really apreciate a Renji's/ Rukia's video, cuz I forgot a ton of information about Bleach in general, so your series of videos helps out a lot regarding that
Momo is denial of situation.
Shuhei is struggling and pushing against situation.
Kira is acceptance of situation.
I like the subtle theme that Kubo made with this trio. All of them were in very similar position but all three of them were dealing with it in their own ways.
Also, a lot characters that did not have Bankai and/or did not showed it have some blockades, traits that make them not fully compatible with their blades. I think that for Izuru it was exactly despair and being unwilling to enjoy fight... and ironically maybe being in constant pain coud help him overcome it.
Think about it like that - In his dead-but-not-really state where his body pains constantly the final result of fight turns into win-win scenario now - either he win and his opponent will be defeated or he will lose, die and be free from suffering.
Hope to despair, with this kind of mentality his philosophy and worldview would become complete - "Yeah, war sucks and we should not be fighting but if it happens, person that will die will be free".

I always thought that Izuru's Bankai would be like a Judgement of the dead that Kira killed, so it would be like you die by the weight of decapitated dead people. Because for Izuru every death counted as something he didn't want to do

Wish Kubo had done more with Izuru, his ability can’t really be stopped by anyone and his bankai would probably be something like a gravity field that increases over time but he’s unaffected as he holds his sword, after a while you just can’t move and get flattened to death or he kills you one. Basically just a bankai that makes you helpless.

Honestly, two favorite Kira moments are when he realized Gin lied about Hinamori getting hurt and when him and Hisagi enter the fight with Ayon. It just reminds that so many of the vice captains have a connected past. Hell, half of them were in the academy together.

Izuru is all about despair and his bankai is said to be very gruesome, so I'm guessing that instead of just increasing the weight of something to represent despair it actually make that despair physically manifest either through the sword or maybe through Izuru himself. Or this feeling of despair that he is feeling is emenating off of him and you're basically forced to feel it too. either one or combination of the two could work.

I can see Izuru's Bankai being too graphic or dark for the series. I mean, Hisagi's Bankai is f*cking brutal, maybe too brutal for Shonen which might explain why Kubo didn't have him use it in the final arc. But that just makes me more curious as to WTH Kubo's ideas were.
Kinda ironic that being too much where as we see characters get beheaded or get blown up or meet nasty and terrifying characters

I don't think Aizen switched until the last moment because it wasn't until Shinji hit him with Sakenade that he was in trouble. It just seems like Ichigo wasn't doing anything due to the editing. Showing everyone's reaction to Aizen's "defeat" and all that, then having Ichigo go "no way...what the hell are you guys doing?!" makes it feel a lot longer than it actually was.
What I'm saying is, everything was working, Ichigo was waiting for his moment...and it all happened suddenly in like 2 seconds and Ichigo simply paused for a moment due to the shock of seeing it happen then screamed at them all.
Yes, your audience is a lot bigger now, so I'm sure a lot of new people will enjoy the Rukia and Renji videos.
