Yea especially when you saw the espandas don't exactly scale linearly such as how ulquiorra basically toys with Grimmjow who's only two places under him
Though I will admit that stark was a little underwhelming as the primera espada compared to what barragans abilities were. I wish they would've fleshed it out a little more than just lots of ceros and explody wolves.
@@jlogan2228 I know what you mean about Starrk. I mean, he is my favourite Espada, his design, his abilities, his personality are all things I love, but yeah he was pretty barebones power-wise compared to the others.
@@siriuslyorion2975 yea i basically started losing interest around that section bc it became more of a "who has the highest power level" kind of thing and aizen was jumping leaps and bounds every time you thought they'd get a hit and you just KNEW somehow they'd pull something out of there ass for Ichigo to jump from getting his ass kicked by ulquiorra and gin to dominating God level hogyaku aizen in five chapters or less

Bleach always had a good way of scaling characters where even if they weren't the most outright powerful they had interesting abilities or traits that made up for it and with peeps like Yamamoto or aizen their power was just off the charts and when they showed it it was something to behold.

Ulquiorra wasn’t talking to Ichigo about Despair in meaning, he was talking to him about how pointless (Fruitless, meaningless, NIHILISM) his efforts of trying to fight him was. He even had a moment of monologue where he basically went: “I showed him I have another form much stronger than before but he still wants to fight?” The point Ulquiorra was trying to get across was that no matter how hard Ichigo fought, he can’t beat him or save his friends - which would lead some to despair - and that was what Ulquiorra thought Ichigo would feel. Just thought I’d try to clear that topic a bit. 😅
Kubo actually stated once when the Hell Verse movie was made, the fight at the very beginning was what he wanted to happen between Vasto and Ulquiorra. However he wasn't able to make it happen because of limited time and health issues so he did what he could.

"Ulqiorra really likes punching holes" Grimmjow actually pointed out that Ulqiorra tends to stab people where his own hole is. He seems to be the only arrancar or even hollow that does that, and Grimmjow even says it's "like his signature". Also, you should check out the beginning sequence of the Hell Verse movie if you haven't yet. Kubo said the version of Ulqiorra v Vasto Lorde Ichigo is "much closer to how it was invisioned to play out".
the thing is that grimmjow pierced Rukia where his hole was and gilga tried to do the same to kenpachi right to his left eye it me Bea habit of espadas but those 3 are the only one we've seen do it
The thing about Despair and and Nihilism is that the latter is the ultimate surrender when the first overwhelms someone. Ulquiorra was always only a step away from suicide. Only Aizen giving him a purpose, not a meaning, kept him alive long enough to die by finding meaning. He truly is one of the best characters in Bleach once you get into it. Even though the pure edge he incorporates can almost cut people.
As a fan of this channel I am happy that he went back and start talking about bleach here and there because that's the reason why I subscribe to the channel in the first place

scott grasser it wasn’t that his best move was unable to hit it’s just so much power it’s hard to control. I feel like his segunda form would oneshot haribel and honestly I loved stark but in terms of strength Ide probably chose barrigans ability over his.
There's two kinds of despair: One that goes against hope and another that is just the absence of hope.
Noitora represented the former for me because he's a petty sadist. He likes to snuff out hope, he's always in despair as he looks at himself and sees that he can't measure up against others so he takes pleasure in inflicting this helplessness he himself always experiences. A certain level of inferiority complex if you may. That form of despair isn't despair due to absence of hope, that's despair due to hoping itself.
Ulquiorra's version of despair is the absolute absence of hope. There is nothing to compare, there is nothing to strive for. Everything is cut down to absolutes so there's no point in talking about things like rank. He follows orders absolutely because there is no meaning in acting otherwise, nothing to achieve, nothing to hope for. Unlike Noitora whose despair is in opposition of hope, Ulquiorra's despair is of non-existence. It's not only a form of despair that negates hope but it also negates the form of despair that opposes hope, because it's a form of despair free from hope. It's kind of like post apocalyptic future vs dystopian future kind of despair.
Well look at it this way: Nnoitora was always partnered with Nelliel. Why would Aizen do that? Because he knew Nnoitora was petty, and wanted to see what he'd do when faced against a calm and collected obstacle like Nel. Nel as an Espada likely embodied the same aspect of death as Halibel, meaning she embodied the complete opposite to Nnoitora's Despair. Ulquiorra never despaired, and wasn't absent of hope either. It was clarified a little in a flashback panel of him pre-Espada, that all he hoped for was peace and solitude (the scene where he cracked his mask on the divine tree in Hueco Mundo). His nihilism came from the belief that following orders was the logical course to take. Logic dictates everything, and logically speaking (in terms of a nihilist), everything is basically meaningless.

My theory about the reason ulquiorra had a second release was because of the fact he was on his way to become a natural arrancar before he met aizen and when he actually became one with the help of the hogyoku, he always had that potential inside him to unlock secunda etapa. When he was a vasto lorde in ulquiorra unmasked there was a lot of implications backing up the fact that his hollow mask was slowly breaking off. So his first resurrection is mucielargo via hogyoku power up and his second one is how mucielargo potentially would have looked like if he would have turned arrancar naturally.
I saw that theory as well but I thought ulqiorra was already an arrancar because he broke his mask on the tree and we could see his face after that but even still your theory still applies. I say this because of ulqiorra was already a natural arrancar it would make since for him to already have a resurreccion so I'm guessing that he got his zanpakuto and aizen just used the hogyoku on him to give him a resurrecion not knowing that he already had one. Your theory also explains why he said aizen never seen his 2nd form.
"Aizen's still Azien and Azien be Aizen" is one of the most nonsensical sentences I completely understand.
The black hole symbolizes "emptiness" which fits Ulquiorra's character very well.
Hollow literally means "empty inside" which also compounds the whole obsession with black hollow holes.

The thing with "Heart" and ulquiorra is hard to understand for english or european people.
Because in Japanese they have two words for "heart".

Shinzo, is your biological heart. its the muscle that pumps blood out to your veins.
Kokoro, is everything else heart related that IS NOT biological. Does that make sense?
When someone talks about hearts and love, that's "kokoro" and not "shinzo".
my point is that the Japanese language clearly differentiates that "heart" has 2 meanings, because there is literally 2 different words depending on what meaning you go for and the word and meaning Ulquiorra doesnt understand is the "non biological heart" or the "spiritual heart".
The heart with which you can feel love. The heart with which you can forgive. The heart with which you can laugh and mourn.
THIS is the "heart" Ulquiorra is reffereing to and not the actual muscle inside Orehime's body, because that he already knows. No he's talking about the spiritual heart.
I'm saying this because I know I was really confused the first time I watched bleach and seeing him "if I crush your chest, will it be there?" I was like "wtf? yes ? obviously it will????"
But when I was learning Japanese later on , it dawned upon me that he's not talking about her biological heart :D

However, the way you explained it makes me believe at some level you understood what was being stated by Ulquiorra.

Kubo actually meant for the fight to be more even than it was with Ulqiorra on less of the backfoot, but he had a time schedule he had to fit and wasn't able to do it. That's why he's actually stated that the fight at the start of Hells Verse between them is more accurate to what he wanted to happen.
as far as im aware this is an absolute myth, everytime i ask, noone that has made this claim has been able to provide any sort of source, the fight in the movie had LITERALLY the same beats as the manga/anime one, the only difference was the pacing, it was obviously more fast paced. plus it makes absolutely no sense for kubo to prefer a version of the fight that lacks any emotional subtlety, and serves only as eye candy (im not saying the scene in hell verse isnt good, its amazing, but lets be honest it serves only for coolness factor and to establish where kakuto got the idea of luring ichigo).

So say Finland's Gotei 13 doesn't allow you to use certain services such as this game for example.

After going back through it, I started to realize that Ywach and Ulquiorra have some very noticeable similarities, their "birth" is nearly identical along with their ability to feel "alien-like" compared to other characters...
I loved ulquiorra and funny he got the seshomaru treatment in the Manga and anime where they did smile ealry on but later just got to never smiling. Also he is my 3rd favorite behind Nel and stark

@@alphawolf7417 yeah grimjow was built up to be ichigos main rival in the arancar arc. All the times you see Ichigo bridge the gap of power closer and closer each time was great. His battle was probably the best between two equals in terms of power plus orihime rooting him on was great.
Also funny how Nel doesn't care much for him meeting in blood war seeing Ichigo. Man I wish bleach some comes back and adds so much content Kubo didn't have time to add

@@ivanbluecool it's hard to imagine. Lots of the actors for both English and Japanese have likely moved on. I mean Kisuke's English VA is dead. I know Johnny Young Bosch still would play Ichigo, hell he joined Retro Ryan's fan animation as Ichigo's VA. But if Bleach returns it would need a MASSIVE overhaul.

I believe Kubo said that Ulquiorra, at the end, had some form of romantic feeling for Orihime.
I really like all of the Espada, except for Szael. But my favorite of all is Halibel, and not for the reason you’d think! It’s because she’s one of the only hollows in the series to understand camaraderie and loyalty. She has a very compelling character and I wish she got more development.
This is my head canon
Hollows have holes to signify the loss of their hearts, their humanity, they can never get quite whole again, and ichigo really just died there in Hueco Mundo, we now know later on that he was actually the hollow, but a hole was put into his soul form, he lost what kept him "human", and an imbalance happened, his other powers became unstable and so, unusable and so his hollow reiatsu/instincts became dominant, and at that point really, it was kinda the truest ichigo had ever been, at least until the blood war.

A nice touch/callback (or at least I think it is/was) is that when you see Hollow Zangetsu fused inside of Ichigo's inner world, his Hollow mask only has the left horn. And even further on - when Ichigo goes into that controlled Hollow form against Yhwach towards the end of the series its still just the left horn.
Ulquiorra sliced off Ichigo's right horn when he saved Orihime and Ishida.

26:21 I was one of those edgy middle school students lol. Honestly, I hated Middle School but Bleach made that period of my life more bareable.
Ulquiorra was and still is my favorite character due to the way he made an entrance in clapping Ichiho's cheeks like no one before or after, and his character depth.
And yes, that Hogyoku Ulquiorra is literally one of the coolest things I've ever laid my eyes on!
I loved Bleaches aesthetics, universe, power system, fights, animation style... everything except I found the story so shallow and boring it's nice to hear fans bring some depth into it. Also I hear another youtuber say the Hellverse movie fight makes it more back and forth between Ulquiorra and Ichigo and that's what Kubo actually wanted.

Definitely, I have whole heartedly disliked the way they treated the strength levels when Ulquiorra and Ichigo fought. Ulquiorra was always leaps and bounds ahead of Ichigo, so if they would have made the fight less one sided when Ichigo transformed could have made an even better fight scene and more satisfying. Ulquiorra is my favourite character only second to Hollow Ichigo. ( The scene when Ichigo was fighting Byakuya when Hollow Ichigo popped up was one of the best scenes ever!) I was marvelling Ulquiorra when he was dying and felt quite sad, mixed with unsatisfied feelings about the fight... It felt like Ichigo transformed into the god of the hollows! I still feel sad about killing Ulquiorra... I hope one day will complete the whole anime. I know, I know... I can still hope and dream, can't I?
If you see their fight in the Hell Verse movie, it was a little closer. My point in saying this is that Kubo said that if he had more time he would of make the fight in the manga like it was in the movie.
Yeah, Kubo was always getting rushed and didn't have time to make lot of the fights really proper.
Well I kinda liked that after Ichigo had his most balanced and closest fight with Grimmjow, this one was always one-sided leaping around the other's powelevel.
Still as the others stated the movie version where they are a bit closer is more compelling and closer to Kubo's original intentions.

Also, just realizing this now, but the reason vasto lorde ichigo is so powerful is the same reason kenpachi is so strong. You have multiple competing spiritual pressures grinding eachother in one body, in both cases. With kenpachi it was him and his zanpakto, with ichigo it was the soul reaper/quincy spiritual pressures and the hollow spiritual pressure. Vasto lorde is what happens when ichigo stops fighting, so it makes sense that it is the culmination of his full power at that point.
Isn't that basically what the last arc explained in a pretty direct yet indirect way?

From what I've found on TV Tropes, Ulquiorra is an ancient millions-of-years old Hollow, back when reality was much more chaotic, and Hollows could simply form in Huecco Mundo spontaneously, at any level of evolution. He is essentially a natural Vasto Lorde Hollow, and his second Resureccion is a manifestation of the despair his empty existence resulted in.

Kubo himself agrees with you on the balance of the final fight. In his mind he said it was more even. Ulquiorra is definitely my favorite Espada, and I think he's certainly the strongest one too.

Oh and when he kills Ichigo the 2nd time

K. So I don't know much about this Tekking guy but I can tell you this... he is at his best when describing deep and complex moments of an anime he is passionate about. It's like a different person shows up and all the sudden I'm on the edge of my seat on a journey he's leading the viewer on.

turns out its actually quite the opposite, ulquiorra died for that exact reason, while he could regenerate stuff like his leg and arm, he was unable to regenerate the internal damage that white did.

Plus white was overwhelming him before he had to use them, he never stood a chance, white is insanely powerful, he was aizens perfect creation imo.

@@TheGordoGaming thats not what he says, its the other way around, what he says is that arrancars sacrifice most of their natural regenerative abilities, that all hollows have to a certain extent, in order to enhance their powers, but only he can regenerate parts at super speed, he never mentions having to sacrifice his power in order to have said abilities, in fact whats implied is that his power is so great that even after this sacrifice, that might actually occur naturally and not by choice, hes the only able to retain super fast regeneration, thats should be able to tell you how strong he IS not how strong he COULD have been
but even if that was true, healing an arm shouldnt be that tasking for him, the guy was literally generating nukes like it was nothing, and it still wasnt enough, white was just too fast and completely overwhelmed him before he even required to heal practically all of his bottom half after he was hit by the cero, like i said, he never stood a chance.

I think one of the most interesting parts of Ulquiorra's character was how he did, in some twisted ways, enjoy things on some level. He enjoyed instilling dread and despair into people. He also had a fascination with blowing holes in people where his own hollow hole is. Also, Ulquiorra was the most powerful Espada. Change my mind.
I'd say Stark is the only one who could possibly take him. Stark is said to be able to fire "infinite ceros" if I'm not mistaken, which means his Reiatsu level must be ridiculously high. Yami could likely take him too if he ever learned control. So I'd put Ulquiorra on parr with Harribel at minimum and Baraggon at maximum. Depends what the base Reiatsu difference is before Ulquiorra's second release
@@corruptangel6793 I disagree. Toshiro was keeping pace with Harribel, and Hollow masked Ichigo is a lot stronger than Toshiro. Ulquiorra in his first release was dominating Ichigo so hard, that Ichigo was almost killed before he could react. In his first release Ulquiorra would have been a match for Starrk seeing how Soi fon (who is weaker than hollow mask ichigo) was able to get the better of Barragan at certain points. Segunda etapa would have been too much for Starrk.
Aizen talked about how every fight Ichigo had was planned by himself. I think it is telling that Aizen had Ulquiorra be Ichigo's biggest fight. Aizen KNEW about Ulquiorra's second release, and he KNEW that he was the strongest Espada.
@@formeraxe117 I disagree about Toshiro or Soi Fon being weaker than Vizard Ichigo. We have no evidence to suggest that (at least that I can remember) and instead have evidence to the contrary. Remember, Ulquiorra's first resurrection is common knowledge and would be factored into the Espada ranking. And Vizard Ichigo, as you said, got creamed by Ulquiorra's first release. The fact that Toshiro and Soi Fon can fight against the likes of Harribel and Baraggan actually puts them soundly above Ichigo's Vizard form by a significant margin. At the very least their combat prowess eclipses Ichigo's. Not unlike how the top Espada's combat prowess eclipse Yami's despite him having the most Reiatsu and thus the most latent power of them all.
Also, after re-reading my comment, I don't know what happened to my thought process, but I meant to say that Ulquiorra would likely (I think) be on parr with Stark at most and Baraggan as minimum. I don't know why I said Harribel.
@@corruptangel6793 If you actually think toshiro and soi fon are comparable to hollow masked ichigo then I'm not sure what to tell you. Ichigo was on par with byakuya on the S.S. arc before he masterd his bankia. Then ichigo attained his hollow mask. Then he recieved several power ups, with the most noticeable being after Grimmjow. There is no way byakuya--who is comparable to toshiro--is in the same league as ichigo. Therefore, the espada rankings are bogus. Ulquiorra in his first release would body Harribel.
@@formeraxe117 Ichigo was NOT Byakuya's opponent during the Soul Society arc. He was able to Force Byakuya into Bankai, and momentarily speed blitzed Byakuya, but once Byakuya started fighting seriously, Ichigo was immediately pushed to his limit. Then Ichigo froze and his inner hollow explained that his body was being crushed by his own Soul Pressure. Meaning he was suffering from a similar albeit weaker backlash to Kenpachi when he achieved Bankai. In other words he couldn't handle his own power at that point. It took his inner hollow to take over (like with Ulquiorra) and reveal his Bankai's true power to injure and start actually defeating Byakuya. And when Ichigo regained control he technically STILL lost to Byakuya as Byakuya was still standing while Ichigo collapsed. Meaning Byakuya could've likely kept going while Ichigo was KO'd.
Also, Byakuya was fighting on equal footing with Kempachi during their fight with Yammi. And Kenpachi had just gone through his own growth spurt during his fight with Nnoitra which ended with Kenpachi insta killing him while he was in his resurrection. And Nnoitra was stronger than Grimmjow!
And again, Toshiro and Soi Fon fought the 2nd and 3rd Espada, in their respective resurrections without getting curbstomped like Ichigo did against the 4th Espada in his first resurrection. And Ulquiorra's first resurrection was common knowledge amung the other Espada meaning that he was still beneath the top 3 Espada in that form. It was his first Resurrection that earned him his 4th rank and that alone was more than enough to kill Ichigo almost effortlessly if he'd wanted.
Remember, Ichigo was always jumping straight to Bankai, which amplifies his reiatsu 10fold. And relied on his Visord Bankai to stand a chance against, let alone defeat Grimmjow. While Soi Fon fought Baraggan, who is VASTLY stronger than Grimmjow, in her Shikai which only amplifies her reiatsu 5fold. The only reason she used her Bankai at all was because she couldn't get close to Baraggan while he was in his resurrection and she thought her fuck-off nuke might work. And Toshiro spent a good while fighting Halibel in his Shikai too if memory serves.
Basically, Ichigo was in the same boat as Yammi when compared to the Captains. He was strong, easily Captain class. But he relied completely on his ridiculous amount of reiatsu to fight. His shit control of his own reiatsu crippled his combat prowess. It was why he seemed so much stronger at the end of the Fullbringer arc despite merely regaining his powers. He had finally learned control thanks to Ginjo and the others training him.
