What's your favourite 7th Division moment, and who is your favourite character from the squad? What's your impression of the new vice-captain Atau Rindo, and do you think we'll ever see Komamura again? Let me know!

Favorite moment is when Komamura is talking to Tosen after being one hit by Aizen.
Favorite character from the squad is Komamura.
Still no impression on the new guy.
Yeah we could see Komamura come back. I'm sure the super genius scientists could figure it out if they were so inclined.

One of my favorite divisions actually. Fav character obviously Sajin if only Iba got more moments. And I think Love should've taken captain after Komamura I really liked him as well. I think Rindo seems very interesting if we get more content I'd love to see him.

    • @bling0holic
      @bling0holic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

First of all, Atau Rindo is such a genius character, and yes, because of him being a mute. This character was such a big surprise for me, but it's soo Tite Kubo to make a character like this, and honestly, I can't wait to see more of Atau Rindo in the future.
As for the 7th Division, they are all tied to Tosen due to Komamura's relationship, aside from the Tosen v Komamura in the Arrancar Arc, which the anime did a such a good job with extended scenes, my favorite part is the TYBW Arc where he sacrificed his own heart for revenge. Though not really told anywhere, the deeper meaning I feel that it wants to convey is the fact that Komamura did what Tosen did, for the act of revenge. This creates a parallel with Tosen and how much he was scolding what Tosen was doing and in the end, he did it for the sake of Genryusai.
It's a simple plot and end, but big takeaway that I loved is that Iba comes and pretty much doesn't blame Komamura for what he have done and unfortunately, there's no context or any reason why Iba should be important, but in hindsight, it kind of works. Iba is more of a silent character, you see him, but he doesn't do much (due to obvious reasons) but it kind of worked in his favor, and then at the end him becoming Captain, honestly, it really fitted Iba. He always felt the more "higher moral ground/responsibility guy" ever since his interactions with Ikkaku from the SS Arc and he stayed the same for the whole time EVEN during the fight of Tosen v Komamura. Out of the 4 of them (Tosen, Hisagi, Komamura, and Iba), Iba was more the mature one and always learning and understanding of the people around him and he's with. In a way, Komamura's devotion to Genryusaii made Komamura same-y AS 1st Division, the same spirit and bravado that exists, and Iba kind of carries that with.
Unfortunately, this isn't even "don't show, don't tell" but more of "didn't care too much, but something can be worked with" type of work, but from what we have to gather about Iba's character, I think having a "non-side" side character working in itself isn't that bad when you have a whole cast to work with. Even Komamura's writing were just there for Tosen and then gone again... it's just too bad that the 7th Division gets axe'd out of anything super fast, like the way Komamura got axe'd out in the beginning of the filler, Zanpakuto Rebellion Arc... xD

Despite the weakness of his Bankai has which if its damaged, it damages Komamura. It also means that his Bankai is restored when Komamura heals. I think Kubo was trying to balance Komamura. Because if his Bankai mimics Komamura's movements, I'm sure it can mimic flash steps and possibly Kido.

Ok, I understand why fans got pissed off that iba became captain but I feel it wasn't fair to directly shit on iba himself, we don't know how strong he is , I recall that he often kicked ikkaku's ass when they would spar . I was mad about iba becoming captain because I felt that love being reinstated at captain made more sense, not because iba is weak . There was also the case of fans unfairly taking out their frustration over renji not becoming captain onto iba .

I want to see more from Iba. From some of the novels (as in "We do KNOT always love you") you can see how interesting he is at keeping up the status quo and the messages of his Captain. He still keeps an eye on Komamura post-transformation as well as his squad. It has also been said in guide books and stuff that he is a master in all aspects of being a Shinigami such as shunpo, sword fighting, kido, etc. I would absolutely love more lore for him and his squads in a potential Hell Arc.

  • @Wolfboss7

It's a longshot, but I am hoping the Seventh Division get some more focus. Even though they didn't get much spotlight, I always thought of them as being amongst the most stable. Komamura was a cool character and dare I say one of the most likable captains despite his appearance. In fact, I think that might have been part of his charm, he LOOKS scary, but he's polite, honorable, and loyal as hell. In a way he always felt like a foil to Kenpachi, just like how Iba in a sense foils Ikkau (his dressing down during the Fake Karakura Town Arc felt more like a clash of soldier vs. warrior perspectives, with the 7th Division feeling more like the soldiers to the 11th Division's warriors).

One of the things I'm hoping they do in the TYBW anime since it is confirmed that Kubo is expanding on some things is give Iba an on-screen fight. Even if it isn't a major one, at least show him properly release his Shikai and show us what it can do and what he is capable of a bit. I would be fine with him being shown using his Shikai and some Kido or something to take out a bunch of Soldat or something if there's no way to fit him into a fight with a Sternritter. Really anything to give us more about Iba and to perhaps give a hint at why he will later be promoted to Captain like him defeating a group of Soldat while commanding lower ranked 7th Division members while Komamura fights Bambietta or something.

    @piotrjagodzinski9177 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

I like this division, hope we get to see more from Iba when or if the new Breaths From Hell arc continues.
Komamura was such a wasted character, giving him constant loses when everyone was shining, and when his time to shine moment comes, it was at the very high price, which i actually like and would have that more characters would reach the similiar fate. Kubo missed a good opportunity to make Komamura a badass wolf with a katana after he turned into more animalistic being, something like a Sif from DkS clenching a sword in its fangs, staying in Barracks at Iba's side, it would actually really match well with the new vice captain. Novels turned him into a good doggy daddy, which i didn't like at all.
It feels very underwhelming, especially if later in the arc, Byakuya that should be dead, comes and offscreens 5 sternritters, blasts Pepe, assists Rukia fighting As Nodt and fights with Gerard without any kind of stakes or risks.
Just compare this to poor Komamura that needed to sacrifice his own power and life he has as a shinigami to not even kill, but defeat a single sternritter.
The only characters that Kubo craps on more was Kensei and Rose, they were literally killed by a clown Luchador and the one who intervened and without any effort defeats him is fucking Renji, do you even comprehend all of this? A two veteran captains with a hollow powers that they didn't even utilize (despite the knowledge of the quincy weakness) was completely obliterated by a one guy that gets obliterated by a vice captain with some bs power up.

    • @MrTommo2304

You're absolutely right about Komamura - with so many villains, especially villains that don't get a fight themselves, there's no reason why human Sajin couldn't have wasted one or two of them in a really badass way before taking on Bambietta or something.

I saw Iba as searching for something beyond cracking skulls and saw the dedication and honor of Komamura as that thing. That he trips and fails to meet the expectations that he sets for himself, but earnestly tries.
I thought their whole thing was that Iba, the leader of the man's group saw Komamura as a man worth modeling yourself after, while Komamura isn't a man and often doesn't feel like one.
Honestly, all the squads with specified purposes will remain more interesting than the ones with less to focus on. Squads 2, 4, 11, and 12 are popular for this reason.

I wonder, i don't really think it is such an issue. In such organization you need squads whose main job is directly related to army positions and battle. You could see in many ways that Komamura excels in a defensive position to protect and this change is really shown in how Iba works and changes. Iba changes a lot from being one of a division of people who just wants to fight to a division that wants to fight to protect. That in many ways is why Komamura talks about not falling into revenge but believes that he felt for it and why Iba tell him that his way of fightning was not wrong.

Iba is one of my top 5 favourite characters in the entire series. Originally it was just for his design, which in my opinion is absolutely one of the best Kubo ever did. It's not crazy busy like Kukaku and Hisagi or super in your face like Mayuri or Kyoraku, it's a legitimately believable and realistic design that feels like it could exist in the real world, yet belies so much badass potential. After the final arc, I actually started to relate to him with the tiny bit we're given about how he doesn't feel like he truly belongs in his position and is always working to close that perceived gap. I experienced almost a 1:1 situation a few years back, except the people I was leading weren't nearly as open and respectful as Iba's men for one reason or another. His zanpakuto is so unique and the crumbs about him sprinkled throughout tease such an enticing character. I'm sincerely hoping we get an actual fight for Iba in one of the remaining cours for the anime, and the fact that he shows up at all in the cour 2 trailer has raised my hopes unnecessarily high

Looking back on the series as a whole, I think instead of just jumping into the battle with Aizen, it would've been nice to have story arcs centered around the divisions like division 2 for example. That way we can see more ninja like stuff in Bleach. I imagine it would also give Soi Fon some cool moments as well. Then after that focus on another division like division 7 and so on and so forth. Eventually building towards the confrontation with Aizen and the Espada. I don't think we would need every single division explored in this way but it would've been nice. That's just my opinion

    (long comment incoming lol sorry)
i think the most frustrating thing about tite kubo for me is that he's so incredibly great at coming up with really interesting concepts and characters and plot hooks, but it seems like he struggles to remain interested in his own ideas for long enough to develop them to their fullest potential. especially in regards to characters.
don't get me wrong, i can totally understand and relate to that on a creative level... but as a long term fan who read the manga weekly for 7+ years it eventually started feeling like a betrayal every time he would introduce new characters, because i knew exactly what was going to happen: i would get attached to a character and be so excited to see how they were going to develop or effect the story, only for them to completely lose relevance because kubo seemingly got bored of them or didn't plan ahead enough to wrap up their character arc in a satisfying way, and then he would introduce even more characters that he would do the same exact thing with. rinse and repeat until the end of the series.
i'm not saying that every single character needed to be fleshed out or even have plot importance. but when you have this many recurring characters that show up in almost every arc who we still know almost nothing about that manage to do absolutely nothing of relevance over 600+ chapters... it was frustrating.
    and the hardest part is, that just shows how fucking great kubo is at coming up with ideas. i wouldn't have been frustrated if the characters he introduced weren't incredibly interesting in the first place. i would have dropped bleach a long time ago if i didn't think kubo's ideas were great. i'm just bummed because there were so many of those ideas introduced that would have made the series truly outstanding if he had just been able to follow through on them. ;w;

Him failing to learn the lesson about not giving into revenge was so bittersweet. And still being respected and held in high regard by those who cared for him is just so touching. You might fail, but you tried. If his story ends here I still love it. I sincerely believe the overwhelming majority of people don't see that and can never comprehend it. As it is very subtle and somehing you can pick up from personal experience.
From my experience speaking about this division it tends to connect more with people who screwed up alot in the past but moved on to try to better themselves. The ex gang designs, ailments physical or mental that may lead some to think themselves a burden on loved ones or society. The pursuit to be a better all rounded person. Hince why the vice captain trains the way he does. There is a story there. It may not as pronounced as others but it is there. Not saying there is alot, just that it is overlooked.

Great analysis. I think one issue is, and this goes for Soi Fon's division. Besides the captain, there really is anybody powerful to showcase. Most of the other divisions have powerful vice captains, and even seated officers who get to show off. That doesn't seem to happen here. Just my thoughts.

The 7th Division fits in alongside the 2nd and 6th during the Soul Society Arc. They are the guards, the soldiers representing the stubbornness, but also core power, of the Gotei 13 alongside Yamamoto. They don't rebel, they don't act independently, they are extensions of of the Head Captain. A spitting image of stability just how the old man likes it. But there's a problem, Byakuya is practically the main antagonist of the arc, Soi Fon is revealed to have a history with the fan favorite Yoruichi (especially at that time when she was so prevalent), and Yamamoto is...well Yamamoto. Komamura is the only one here with no ties to characters outside the Gotei 13. As the story goes forward, Soi Fon only gains more ties to fan favorites, having a near romantic relationship with Urahara, and Byakuya remains as important as ever, possibly more so taking on more than his fair share of important or standout foes.
You can tell there were attempts to form more connections with Komamura though, outside of his story with Tosen. There's an almost random connection to Squad 5. Talking with Shinji on multiple occasions, rescuing Momo, and being the first to lose to Aizen all the time, but this connection never really goes anywhere. There's also a rivalry with Squad 11, being the two most macho divisions but with extremely different ideologies, but we don't see Komamura's fight with Kenpachi and they never rematch (outside of anime filler, and even then only sort of). Of course Iba shows their rivalry much better but that relationship gradually diminishes as the story progresses. Lastly there's an expansion on Komamura's loyalty to Yamamoto in the TYBW but frankly I can't think of a single time Yama ever actually spoke to Komamura in the entire series. Probably the most successful story for him was defeating Bambietta, who is amongst the most popular of the Sternritter and I don't see that changing with the anime. Atou really is great, and the animal connection is genius as Komamura, now a dog, is probably still with the 7th Division. A story involving Komamura protecting Atou almost writes itself. I'm sure too that just seeing Captain Iba's bankai would get people talking as well (same for Isane btw).

It'd be cool if they were given prominence in the Hell arc with there being some way of Komamura regaining his shinigami form, perhaps with a better bankai that has less of a massive exploitable weakness. Perhaps Hell could somehow link to the Beast clan and Iba can be a major player in helping Komamura, showing his true abilities. Given the new lieutenant has some form of transformation powers as well maybe they can be of some help too.
Komamura is also one of my favourites, despite his losses which I think is actually a testament to his character. His story has so much potential and feels like it was still only glimpsed by the end.

You know what this video made me realize? Had Kubo had the time and health to do so, the 100-year Blood War should have given each of the new Captains their showcase fight and Bankai right there and thus made it so their appointment felt earned. Iba, Isane and Lisa should have all shown their Bankai in the war itself so that by the time the new Captains were revealed at the end of the manga, everyone went "Oh yeah, those three really deserve it". Rukia got that treatment but she has always been a main character. But imagine if Iba, Isane, and Lisa also got to do that.

I always enjoyed the fact that Komomura was one of the more wise and respected captains, and even though he was initially ashamed of his appearance, no one really seemed to care. His abilities are pretty cool too, the only downside is that for the crazy power his bankai has, it has probably the biggest weakness both literally and figuratively, since you could ignore him and just attack the unmissable giant instead. He was pretty skilled kido wise and is the only one who could hang with Kenpachi when it comes to brute physical strength. I would go on to say he was probably one of the more pure hearted soul reapers too, so it left an especially bitter taste in my mouth when he uses his ultimate clan technique only to be reduced to a simple wolf, unable to speak.
I doubt he’ll see a comeback as he was one of the few true losses in the war and with Iba Christened as the new captain, but at the very least I’d like to see him regain the ability to speak again. Having him as a mute housepet is almost a fate worse than death imo. All in all, pretty underrated, I was just as hype for his upgraded bankai as Toshiro’s.

Sajin is my favourite character and the 7th division has always been my favourite too, and I don't know why xD
Komamura was always the meat shield, he's the biggest guy in the scene most of the time and it gave him this dominating aura. He just gave off powerful vibes, and then got smacked repeatedly.
But in a Bleach forum based RP I played back in 2006, the Seventh division was the "Guardian" or "Defense" squad. They were assigned to protect things or people and I think this was a good insight into how the Division could have been portrayed.
The just defenders of the gotei, with no ambition for power beyond that to protect their Allies and a stalwart determination to do that at any cost.
Komamura got rubbish fights, but was often the first in against the for, probably hoping to protect others from harm, it just always happened to be against the biggest badguy so naturally he get flattened.
It makes me sad but I wish he had cooler more prominent scenes, but Komamura wasn't there to be the strongest, he was always an underdog, a big, strong looking underdog.
The complete opposite of someone like Hitsugaya.
Iba I think was always just "A guy" I think he's meant to have that kind of goofy one moment to deadly serious the next attitude. I hope to see more from him xD

The fact that Ikakku refused to fight at 100%, even when so much is on the line, made me lose a lot of respect for him so I liked that Iba kinda gave him a lot of crap for it. Plus it showed how much stronger Kommamura was compared to the both of them, which was dope. I feel like they are the "layman division". Like everyone can't be the main characters, you need someone to be average if anyone is going to be above average. That also plays into the relationship between Kommamura and Iba I think. In a military, you can't always choose your best friend to be your co-worker. You have to work with the people who are there. So even though Hisagi would be a better vice captain for Kommamura, the reality is that he is vice-captain of the 9th division (which also really needed leadership at that time I believe) and 7th division already has a competent and reliable vice-captain which it would be unfair to just discard because Kommamura liked Hisagi better.
Kommamura guarding the wounded in the Fake Karakura town-battle I think perfectly signify the "Duty first-theme" they have. Its an important job, but its not one where he gets flashy screentime and wins any glory.
Squads 8 and 13 I think are more prevelant than squad 7, simply because of their captains. We never really seet those squads in particular do much of anything I think?

  • @greenolf6578

It's actually not that hard to see. The Seventh Squad specializes in Seyretai defense and heavy support. It is enough to analyze the actions and words of squad members, which reflect the norms of the squad. Loyalty to one's commander, getting one's work done, taking responsibility for one's actions, protecting the weak and taking on larger enemies (Lav took on a possessed Kensei, Komamura fought Po). The Seventh Squad are classic knights and the antithesis of the Eleventh Squad.
Please do the same with the other detachments, except the First, Second, Fourth, Eleventh and Twelfth.

I kind of disagree that they are a "small" division. I'd bet they are actually one of the larger divisions in terms of numbers. I think they are one of, if not the "infantry" division(s).
As is/was often with military in the real world, infantry (at least before mechanized infantry) can often be overlooked for the more specialized or flashy divisions but is ultimately the backbone or foundation of the military forces. While the tactical missions taking out the generals/captains/lieutenants are what is often focused on, it's the "foot soldiers" that are really carrying the brunt of any offensive or defense. They can seem simple, straightforward, not flashy or anything like that, but we'd all be lost without them.
