Seems to be over priced to me IMHO. I've had two older WRX'S . My first one was awesome. Handled great, plenty of power when you hit around 3500. My second one was like driving an old folks car from the eighty's.
i know hp isn't everything but the BRZ with a 20% displacement increase saw a 15% hp increase........the new WRX with a 20% displacement increase saw 3 hp....
Golf R please. I still find the WRX styling odd and the interior design is dated, even with the screens. Oh and no 360 camera or sunroof at this price point... nope 😂
WRX... for STi pricing... is not acceptable. On a side note - IMO the new WR rally blue - which no one seems to mention that it even changed - is no where near as nice as the original (for best comparison - take a look at the 2000'/ 90's blue, for example - same color name). Color graded videos and pics make this one look ok, but not in real life.
It might be a little darker, but idk about the rest. I have it on my 22 BRZ, and it looks great. Pops when light is shining on it. Still much better then the generic drab colors or the new beige trend..which most of the ends up looking like you smeared peanut butter all over your car. 😂
@@DragonKnightX12 Completely different colour really.. especially the 90's one (as opposed to the 2015 or whenever they changed it). I have it next to a BRZ also haha. The original is much more metallic and light coloured.
@@MKu64 Actually looks they are two different colors, Subaru was just too lazy to find a new name. Lol WRB is a darker blue with pearl coat. Seems like a lot of them are going away from Sky blue shades. I think the worst thing to me tho is it makes that ugly plastics bumper on the VB stand out so much.
I like it best in Ceramic white. VB is awesome and tS seems like a winner but why not include the full STI treatment even if HP stayed the same 😢. Damn you Subaru
Please don't convince Subaru to offer it with a sun roof. It's 30lbs at the highest point of the car, and that hurts performance. Unless they find a way to make a sunroof that doesn't add weight, it shouldn't exist on a performance model. But, even more than that, NO CROSSTREK WRX! Every car brand is shifting away from coupes and sedans to crossovers. We don't need another crossover. Maybe give the crosstrek a turbo version, but the moment they start offering a Crosstrek wrx, they'll kill the impreza.
It's a bit deceptive. The lower redline means you have to shift to 3rd to hit 60; that's where the number dip comes in. I wish they'd raised it higher, agreed. But, from a roll, these will actually walk a STI. These are deceptively fast, and will reliably hit 320hp with like $500 in bolt ons.
Subaru's lack of performance caused me to switch brands the 0-60 mph: 5.5 seconds is not competitive in today's market. I grew tired of being the slowest car at the stoplights.
Lol the 5.5 seconds is if you clutch dump at like 5K rpms and want your trans to blow up in a couple years. Normal launches and you get low 6s and maybe 100mph in the 1/4 mile. Pretty sure a 2000s WRX is faster... Either way the car is so slow stock that if they made it FWD it would actually be quicker in a straight line and corners due to weighing less and having less powertrain loss... sad.
The black cladding is so ugly in person. I really hope they update it for a mid-cycle refresh. It’s an automatic red flag for me if this car was on a short list.
At least Subaru kept a decent looking Dashboard design....Doesn't have the annoying "superglued" screens on the dash......Tail Lights are still FUGLY....Subaru needs to redesign!......
The mid-cycle refresh is next calendar year, late in the year. All they're going to do is get rid of the fog lamps and use that space to make more functional air ducts that'll cool the brakes, widen the lower grille for more air flow to cool the turbocharger, widen the hood scoop to give the intercooler more air, revise the gear ratios of the manual transmission, sharpen/tighten the headlights to make them look meaner, taillights will remain the same unless they pull a Honda move and smoke out the taillights like they did with the refreshed 2025-2026 Honda Civic Si and if you're lucky, they'll upgrade the processor speed of the 11.6" Starlink Infotainment System because people say how much it is very slow and maybe, just maybe they upgrade the backup camera quality on the infotainment system and the camera takes up the entire real estate of the infotainment system like a backup camera is supposed to. Other than that, the WRX is not getting no more extra power because 3-5 horsepower and torque is too much for them.
When all is said and done, either this gen WRX will be the very last or they will milk this gen like Dodge did the LX Charger and Challenger twins until they go CVT-only with their hybrid and EV-only with their STe.
@@TheGamingJuicy That was with a redline clutch dump. No one is actually going to do that with their own car. The street start is high 6 seconds. Brutal. Not to mention that the 5.5 seconds is slower than the 2001 WRX. The class has moved on. It is comparatively slow. Especially as speeds rise and the brutal launch is taken out of the equation.
LOL this car would be FASTER with FWD! It is slow stock that by removing the AWD system, the car would weigh less and have less powertrain loss leading to better 0-60 and especially 1/4 mile times. Would likely also do as good maybe better on a skid pad considering an Elantra N with similar width tires can pull almost 1g laterally on a 300ft skidpad.
Too be fair the Elantra N really isn't any faster comparing manual to manual. The DCT is a different story. The EN just the other 99% of FWD cars has a low cap for tuning wo serious mods. Around 320 whp is the safe limit. On a positive note for the WRX it's still purely AWD and Subaru's old school mechanial system. No getting kicked into FWD on the track like the GR Corolla. You'll never want for more traction. On the downside it's two open Diffs and a vicious center. It's using torque vectoring by brakes to do a job that would be better done by Limited Slip Differentials. The other downside is the manual has tall gearing, you have to go to 3rd to hit 60. It's also the weak link. 400+whp is a dice roll with that trans. And you're only other option is a CVT...lol Safe spot for tuning is 350-375whp. So not much more than the EN in perspective. Honestly if they put front and rear LSDs, and switch to the STI manual or borrow a better one from Toyota. The WRX would be a pretty solid buy.
@@DragonKnightX12 straight line? Sure the Elantra N manual is only trapping a few mph more in the 1/4 mile. But around a track they aren't even in the same league... I was talking about all around performance
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 Not really. On C&D's Lighting Lap 2023 the EN was only 4s faster then a 22 WRX, and they were both in the 3 min category. They are very much in the same league. And that was just a regular WRX on the stock dunlops. I imagine the TR/Ts isn't far behind.
Pre-pandemic financial and supply constraints made the production of the STI too costly for the targeted demo, so it was not going to sell well and corporate procurement advised not to proceed unless they wanted to sell it at a loss. Subaru already had contractual obligations with the third-party companies they were collaborating with (Recaro, Brembo, etc) and needed to stick to their deal, so the only logical way out was to create "special" trims: TR or the tS. This generation will not see an STI thanks to the Chinese. Not Subaru's fault.
It’s not tuned by STI it’s exactly the same power, same internals, same split case 6 speed, etc. they put some brakes on it that I can get off RockAuto for like $150 bucks and some struts
I will say they rate the WRX 270hp at the wheels, meaning the crank HP is somewhere if not above 300hp. The peak torque also comes at 2,000 rpm meaning a much flatter torque curve! Savagegeese did a nice video on it I believe. Edit: did a quick search and it looks like peak torque comes on at 2k
Subaru does offer an STI Exhaust Muffler with these vehicle which is factory installed, and YES, it is much louder. In fact, I thought it is too loud and decided on future WRX purchases to go with the standard exhaust. The one thing we do not want to do is encourage Subaru to induce that fake engine noise they pipe through interior. Yuck!
These cars are getting hilarious. Every year they come out with some new more expensive "trim" that has yet to improve engine performance. Meanwhile a 2018 Mustang Ecoboost is still blowing all these cars out of the water from interior, to exterior, to performance and it came out 5+ years ago. Just get an Ecoboost and be better for cheaper

They're about to meet their fate after this gen WRX. I can't see the WRX getting a VC gen or whatever they call the next gen and Subaru thinks everybody will run to a CVT-only hybrid e-STI or a fake and silent transmissionless EV STe for a WRX's next generation. If they want an engine that bad to give people a WRX STI, why don't they spend the money and go to Porsche and get the 2.5L Flat Four Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that was in the early model years of this current generation's 718 Boxster and let the STI Division do their magic to make the VB gen WRX STI come to life? I thought automakers read comments? Apparently, Subaru of Japan and Subaru of America Inc. doesn't.
No. It. Is. Not. Subaru would have to make huge expensive changes if they wanted this to make 400 hp with a warranty. Want proof? This is exactly why the power has stayed the same in the first place. Just because tuners can crank the boost and it's fine for a few years does not mean that a manufacturer is going to release that onto the market.

If the WRX tS ends up at $45,000, this trim will be DOA once it arrives on showroom floors and dealership lots. You got the mid-cycle refresh Elantra N for $10,000 less and more performance. You got the FL5 Civic Type R, but you still can't find one at MSRP without additional dealer markup. Lastly, you got the Integra Type S while it is more in price, you get the most performance and niceties for your money. $45,000 was the VA gen WRX STI Limited money. Subaru will have to give in when they see the VB WRX tS still not being what the community asks for. Their last hope is bringing the WRX STI back. They don't have no choice if they want a next gen WRX to exist in the direction they want to go with it being hybrid or electric or both, but right now it's not the time for either of those right now. Subaru needs to take a risk and get the STI team back to enhance the FA24 or spend the money and go to Porsche and get the 2.5 Flat Four Boxer Engine that was in the Porsche 718 Boxster and use that engine for a VB WRX STI. It made 350hp and 309lb-ft of tq. That would/will be more than enough performance punch for a VB gen WRX STI.

STI tuning your car by adding more stickers, nice.
I recently drove a Lancer Evo. What a hoot
Just enjoy the car don’t nitpick 🎉
they're turning into Mitsubishi. at this point, it doesn't look like they're trying for a sports sedan anymore.
Why wouldn’t Subaru upgrade the WRX awd system to the STI system and call it a day?
Would you recommend getting a manual if you’re barely learning how to drive one ?
A 5k clutch dump to get a 6.1 0-60?! Holy crap that is terrible. What if you don't do a clutch dump? 0-60 in 6.5-6.6? 😢
7 probably.
There's a reason you don't want to buy a press car, lol.
The Outback gets to 60 in 6 seconds all day with a CVT
Nah lol I own a 23 premium it's like 5.5 at most, but this is also because 5th gear ends at 58mph
If you could reach 60 in 2nd gear that number would likely be low 5s and possibly high 4s. The 3rd shift really kills the 0-60 time
this is somewhat soothing... a Manual Transmission ICE powered Sedan... not some electrified crossiver fake suv thing... Thank You subaru
Sofyan’s intros get further and further 😂
Nice review
I have a 22 premium WRX and was looking forward to this review. I just think Subaru could have added a little more boost to the engine and it would justify an estimated $45k asking price. Some rear seat vents would be nice, I’m a dog owner after all 👍🏾
We need a WRX Wilderness!
Seems to be over priced to me IMHO.
I've had two older WRX'S . My first one was awesome. Handled great, plenty of power when you hit around 3500. My second one was like driving an old folks car from the eighty's.
I can’t believe it red lines is 6000 RPM! Is it a diesel?
i know hp isn't everything but the BRZ with a 20% displacement increase saw a 15% hp increase........the new WRX with a 20% displacement increase saw 3 hp....
Golf R please. I still find the WRX styling odd and the interior design is dated, even with the screens. Oh and no 360 camera or sunroof at this price point... nope 😂
TS = totally stupid .. zero improvement on power and the price is are you kidding me level
People without money always complain.
45k for this is silly
People exaggerate saying this front end is terrible. I think it has a handsome front fascia. But the rear looks bad and stubbu
People come to this channel to complain about everything. It's ridiculous. And then there's the one they call Naveen. 🤦
@BillySamKidry It's funny because everybody knows his name on Facebook too in all off the automotive news magazines Facebook pages too. LOL!
WRX... for STi pricing... is not acceptable.
Lol
WRB is a darker blue with pearl coat.
Just a do a dam STI at this point. This is just a money grab lol
it is coming after the mid cycle refresh
@fortheloveofnoise last i heard it was gona be an ev tho.
I would change the rear ugly bumper and the tale light so old.
Subaru isn't fooling no one 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Subaru sold its SOUL when its starting to put CVT on everything
Please don't convince Subaru to offer it with a sun roof. It's 30lbs at the highest point of the car, and that hurts performance. Unless they find a way to make a sunroof that doesn't add weight, it shouldn't exist on a performance model.
But, even more than that, NO CROSSTREK WRX! Every car brand is shifting away from coupes and sedans to crossovers. We don't need another crossover. Maybe give the crosstrek a turbo version, but the moment they start offering a Crosstrek wrx, they'll kill the impreza.
6.1s 0-60? seriously Subaru? If it's not under 5s stock I'll pass. Previous gens are much quicker what a shame.
Sad circumstance
Lol the 5.5 seconds is if you clutch dump at like 5K rpms and want your trans to blow up in a couple years. Normal launches and you get low 6s and maybe 100mph in the 1/4 mile. Pretty sure a 2000s WRX is faster...
Either way the car is so slow stock that if they made it FWD it would actually be quicker in a straight line and corners due to weighing less and having less powertrain loss... sad.
The black cladding is so ugly in person. I really hope they update it for a mid-cycle refresh. It’s an automatic red flag for me if this car was on a short list.
imagine if they did a boxer 6 version as a wagon
Other than that, the WRX is not getting no more extra power because 3-5 horsepower and torque is too much for them.
does the camera man rob get to drive the car aswell
Subaru will get you anything but an STi.
When all is said and done, either this gen WRX will be the very last or they will milk this gen like Dodge did the LX Charger and Challenger twins until they go CVT-only with their hybrid and EV-only with their STe.
Take Lake county HWY. from the lake down to Santa Rosa. It’ll definitely put any to through its gears.
6.1s? Kidding??
Car And Driver got it to 5.5s. That's pretty standard for this class of car.
@@TheGamingJuicy the new Accord with front wheel drive can do 60 in the low 5s. Not class competitive by any stretch of the imagination.
@@thekingandi1705 the new Accord is an automatic only car... not really in the same class...
@@layne4376 same as every other car in the class...
So why isn't there a real STi for this generation of WRX?
Emissions regulations.
Because $$. People are quick to say they want an STI for this generation but how much of them are willing to pay in the 50's for it?
Because Subaru thinks their retired EJ25 motor is some sort of fire-breathing Hellcat/Hellcat Redeye or flaming pitchfork Demon/Demon 170 engines.
STI Vibes --- Good!
STD Vibes -- Bad!!
Ha... we haven't heard this joke before...
Hey ..There...
Where is the back trademark "Spoiler"...
🤔🧐
That was for the STI only.
And you're only other option is a CVT...lol
Safe spot for tuning is 350-375whp.
Suby is a dying brand in most of the south east asia market
10:00 start button says STI? But why…..
TS for Team Subaru.
? Peak torque is around 3000.
@@jonboy602 typo, thank you I will edit my comment
Just get an Ecoboost and be better for cheaper
yea but then u have a mustang and there goes having any real fun :/
@@buss1205 wait what lmao? You're saying a boring ass 4 door AWD car not even cracking 300 hp is more exciting than a rwd coupe that can actually break tires loose? Good lord the cope
@@BrayZap its called taking corners brother. straight line speed gets boring surprisingly fast, especially if thats all ur car can really do. also im gonna be completely honest man, i would rather bike to work everyday than to drive an ecoboost mustang. im sorry but im not being seen in that. have you ever met a single person that said "wow thats a sick eco boost mustang"? yea me neither.
Elantra N is the car to buy.. faster than Subaru and cheaper. Its track ready and practical too
Great video, Rob and Sofyan. Great balance this tS is, over the other current trims(including but not limited to the GT).
Looks good but that rear bumper looks ridiculous
subaru will give us everything but a sti
Apparently, Subaru of Japan and Subaru of America Inc. doesn't.
6seconds 0 to 60. 19 mpg city smh horrible
my moped is faster lol
@@Kimbrough87your mum is fast too
Yeah, but you get the terrible looking "rally" wheel arches.

Subaru's resistance to horsepower really puzzles me. This engine is capable of 400+ hp pretty easily.
No. It. Is.
It is. There you can easily get there with bolt one and E85. There are a few TH-cam that have already done it and some shops have gotten 500 without opening the engine. @@carsonj4031
Maybe transmission cannot handle the power reliably
To much plastic cladding. If painted body color would be better. Could of saved $ and make it a larger single exhaust would also sound way better.
Had a outback 2021 onyx and hated the touch screen system, laggy, bad, never connected half of the time, and just not fun to use hand more of a safety hazzard to use when things didn't work right. Not to mention the sound system was so bad that I had to upgrade the whole thing and then it was only OK. Subaru is ok as a car to drive but if you looking for things like infotainment system or sound, spend your money somewhere else. But glad they finally catching up even tho they are 5 years late to the game. I upgraded to a bmw x3 m50. Couldn't be happier
This is a blatant scam, at this point if Subaru ever decides to release a new STi probably be beyond 50k.
Looks good except for the plastic cladding out back
The mid cycle refresh will lose some of the plastic cladding
Subaru will learn that the ugly forced blue accent interior will cause a drop in sales! They are already down 50% from last year lol
If the WRX tS ends up at $45,000, this trim will be DOA once it arrives on showroom floors and dealership lots.
You got the mid-cycle refresh Elantra N for $10,000 less and more performance.
You got the GR Corolla while smaller in size gives you more performance, but you gotta be careful you don't go over 85 MPH and the car catches fire.
You got the MK8.5 Golf R, but you can no longer get a manual transmission in the refreshed Golf R.
There is no Jetta GLR/GRI (no R version of the Jetta).
It should be able to beat a new Civic Hybrid 0-60 but it merely matches it.
Your videos always lift my spirits and make me smile. Thank you for your ability to share positivity and joy!🍹🎀🦇
Toyota is making their partial ownership known. Overpricing, underpowering their vassal brands.. Good thing the BRZ is still as fun as an older WRX
It’s ugly
