    GM should offer the frt and rear locking diffs as an option for all of it's trucks not just on the zr2 or at4x.Not every one needs the dssv shocks for hi speed off road driving,,but having true 4x4 traction with the lockers is where it's at when you need it. Cmon GM make it happen.We are waiting.

    All three seem well equipped to handle the difficult challenges the majority of their owners will put them through: potholes in the Starbucks drive up, poorly maintained home improvement center loading areas, and the speedbumps in the mall parking lots and school pickup line. Some may even have to drive over a curb and onto the lawn when the owner needs to make room in the driveway for guests while holding a BBQ in their suburban cul de sac.

      @@Shortydude847 I've owned the rest, started in Silverado's, had RAM's (back when they were Dodge Rams), and F150s. I just got real about what I was actually doing with my vehicle. I needed a bed that could haul 4x8 material, I tow a couple atvs and a 20ft boat and a 3800lb camper, and commute to work on winter roads in Wisconsin. Why did I need 10k+ of towing or 4wd to do any of that? The lower insurance cost and 29mpg I am getting on the highway alone were worth the switch.
      It's easy to talk shit on the Honda, as you are, but the truth is that many truck buyers are buying capability that they don't use. I off-roaded for years with my dad in shitbox chevy's with manually locking hubs and did just fine, so why would one need these expensive trucks to do the same thing an 80s truck with manual hubs and open diffs could handle? And why buy an off-road specialty vehicle to not off-road? If I wanted to see that, I could be like the lady I work with who has a Wrangler Sahara and didn't even know it had 4wd. She just likes looking like Daisy Duke.

That is a decent part of why people rally around the Z71 badge in the first place, and the reason GM had the finances to try to develop a ZR2 a few times. The trail boss has a better approach and departure angle during real world testing, without a measuring tape, than the raptpr and the rebel. Please quit trying to compare the TrailBoss to the raptor and ZR2. It's not meant to compete with either of them.

    You guys have tested every brand made. You also live in a state that salts the roads. Is the Aluminum Ford trucks holding up better? I also live in a state that salts roads are least 2 times a week. Most 2004-09 f-150’s are heavily rusted at this point.
    I’ve not seen any issues with the aluminum. But I’ve also not seen as many salt rust issues in the GM and Ram pickups. Is this just chance or are Gm and Ram better at rust inhibitor applications on their trucks?
    These are huge investments. It’s time for me to buy new but I need a truck that will last 15 years without rusting through. I do keep my trucks clean. I always touch up chips in paint etc. But I have had mixed results with rust underbody treatments.

    I like the Trailboss, but went with the LTZ Z71 when I bought in 2019. Funny thing is that the real ground clearance is better, because the tires are about a half an inch taller in the LTZ vs the Trail boss. I actually use the folding mirrors, automatic deploying running boards, ventilated seats, exterior door unlock from passenger doors, blind spot indicators and like the power passenger seat and heated rear seats for the family, and I actually use the automatic up on the tailgate a lot. When hands are full, you can nudge it with your knee and it goes up. I use that feature a lot. Also, although Chevy didn’t make the trim level differences that obvious, when you get in a Trailboss you can see the materials are way different, like leatherette dash and door panels and accents are different. And back then I paid $47k out the door. So my money would go to the ZR2, except for the 6.2. It just has so many really cool features and taller tires, suspension and front and rear manual locker. Maybe with the duramax if they offered it. The 5.3 is a great motor with plenty of power. I think tow capacity and payload is actually higher with the smaller engine. Tommy, why didn’t you compare the towing and payload by looking at the nifty door jam stickers? Great video idea. Thanks

Ultimately that allows them to become a better company, and to give us better products at better price points. Custom Trailboss. The ZR2 is nice but I'm not sure that leather seats, the 6.2 V8 and selectable lockers are worth the nearly $20k premium.

      You missed quite a few things on that list of differences between a custom trail boss and the ZR2.......more factory lift, bigger tires, special bumpers, skid plates, wheel opening trim, different front control arms, much better shocks and a host of other amenities on the interior that make up the 20k price increase.

    • @backwoodstherapy
      @backwoodstherapy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@captainrawn eh. It's a cost of diminishing returns. Sure, it has a few extras that the Trailboss doesn't, but the TB is gonna do about 90% (or more) of what the ZR2 does, from the factory. And the average person needs to ask themselves, does it make it worth it? For most people, that answer is no.

      I think your correct that the Trail Boss will be what most people will buy and use for a variety of reasons. It will off road the same up to the point where the extra ground clearance and selectable lockers take over on the ZR2. I recently purchased a ZR2 in desert sand color to "try it out". Should get it in early July. Like many people I drive mostly on road but there is one place that we camp where I pull my trailer through rough bush mountain roads and use 4WD low with the rear axle locked on my 2015 F350 with 35's on it. Up and down steep grades and through some mud at times out there. Let's just say I use all the tools it has under those circumstances. I'm very curious to see how this new truck handles that scenario. I'm in my 60's and have never owned a new GM truck. Never liked the interiors until now. Had mostly Fords in my lifetime and have been generally happy with them. I looked at the Tremor, Rebel, Trail Boss, and AT4 and decided that neither of them would be good enough to get me there and back under those circumstances. I also have a very capable 2005 Tacoma with lockers, a lift and 32's but it can't pull a trailer. This new ZR2 just might replace it. If the truck is any good and they offer it with a 3 liter diesel I would order one soon as it was available.
      Cheers

    Can you notice a difference in handling while cruising down the freeway at 80 mph? My ‘21 Trail Boss tracked extremely well. My ‘23 ZR2 seems to wander slightly. Additionally, the Trail Boss seemed to have better throttle response and acceleration which makes no sense considering they both have the same 6.2 engine and transmission. Overall I was more pleased with the Trail Boss than I am with the ZR2. Any thoughts?

    • @shaglioni
      @shaglioni 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is very interesting to hear. My wife has a 20' Trail Boss with the 5.3, and we're entertaining switching to a Ford Tremor, Ram Rebel, and I was telling her to keep in mind the ZR2. We test drove the Rebel and that was more comfortable than the Tremor. With the seat comfort and ride comfort. But that was with very short distances. There is a part of me where I think we would need to take a longer ride in the Rebel, as well as with the Tremor, as I felt like it was "loose" feeling in the rear in the Rebel. So with your comment, the ZR2 has the multimatic, DSSV suspension, but with leaf springs, and it feels more loose. The ram with coil suspension might feel similar in the loose feeling. Has me thinking that maybe the Tremor would be the best onroad and with very capable offroad capabilities. In this segment, Rebel, Tremor, ZR2, even Trailboss with the 6.2, and Sierra ATX4, is a very tough decision.

    I trusted Chevrolet right out college in 1993 when I dropped over 20k USD on a Blazer S10 Tahoe! It turned out to be the worst decision I ever made. The truck was a lemon right out of the lot from the dealership. It came with defective front shocks that ruined a pair of Wrangler radials. Then the heating system sprung a leak, it blew a head gasket, shorted the electrical system, the digital instrument cluster went out multiple times over the lifetime of the vehicle, every nut and bolt rattled in the truck especially the rear hatch. In short that was the worst purchase of my life. The next vehicle I purchased was a 1998 Ford Taurus GL that actually worked well for a good number of years. But then I decided to try Toyota and I never looked back. Toyota has been my most reliable car ever. Right now I own two of them a 2005 Tacoma SR5 TRD Sport and a 2016 4Runner SR5. Neither has given me any serious problems. What's more everyone in my family owns a Toyota now and they have all had the same experience. As far as Chevy goes I can only have this to say. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me! I never gave GM another chance!
