    If you "only" have £100m to transform United, signing Mount and Onana is much more effective than just a striker.

    was not convinced when i saw him for Ajax in the CL but Inter has been his finishing school - possibly because italian football culture does not see passing as a necessary quality to the same degree as dutch football does... so the mistakes are criticized and the incentive is there to minimise and mitigate.
    He's the real deal now... and given he has worked with ETH & Martinez before @ Ajax we could not get a better keeper

    • @roy_mezz-awake2470

    • @godloven.baten.8678
      @godloven.baten.8678 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly enough you (Man Utd 'whoever) could be that finishing school, but you let Inter collect him for free and now making big money proudly. Onana has always been good both with the Cameroon national team and in clubs. Inter didn't transform anything in him, Inter on the contrary helped in marketing his skills. That's what I believe bro.

    • @godloven.baten.8678
      @godloven.baten.8678 ปีที่แล้ว

      He transformed Inter Milan's play style. So Inter did not transform him.

    • @CarlinConnolly
      @CarlinConnolly ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@godloven.baten.8678 well Inter only got one stage further than Ajax did in 2019, but i take your point... all keepers improve with experience and Onana now is definitely a better keeper than he was 4 years ago, but he was already a talent then... He's Top 5 in the world now, whereas keepers like Neuer, Navas and Oblak were ahead of him in 2019... i guess for international football then playing for Man U in the PL would add another level of experience and he's the youngest of the current Top 5 with scope to still keep improving... looks like we are going to get him and us missing out last season was possibly down to ETH not wanting to take too many players directly from Ajax as soon as he leaves - and him not realising just how bad De Gea is as a sweeper keeper and mid range passer! I think he might revolutionise our game as much as Schmeichel and Van Der Saar did previously - if our keeper can hit our wingers on the half way and find their feet more often than not then we are back in business...

    You're absolutely right Onana will transform United's way of play in a very good way and he's in my opinion also in the world top 5 goal keepers overall - also because of his excellent shot stopping abilities in the same class as De Gea. United are so lucky Inter want to sell him, but it's only because Inter need money for Lukaku etc. and because of Ten Hag which is without a doubt the main reason Onana is also welcoming a move to United now after a brilliant season at Inter taking them to the CL final against all odds. Forget Mount - Onana will without a doubt be the most important transfer for United this season and only a Kane signing which seems VERY unlikely might top it. I can't wait to see Onana in a United shirt!

    I wanted Maignan but there would be riots in the streets of milan if they sold him after selling Tonali as well so since the Onana talk started i ve made my peace with it and .. its not a compromise. the guy is phenomenal, knows ten hag and his style and knows martinez as well. its a tap in of a transfer. on top of mount, potentially amrabat as cover for casemiro and depth in midfield.. low key extremely good business BUT.. whether our ceiling will be top 4 or a title challenge will entirely depend on the #9 we sign beyond those. if its kane i m putting a tenner on united winning a double. if its not kane then hey here s hoping Hojlund is the 2nd coming of Ronaldo Nazario otherwise it ll be top 4 for us and a 4peat for city cause arsenal are arsenal and liverpool.. still havent signed a cb a rb or a dm and i dont trust their attackers besides salah who at some point.. has to start slowing down.. although probably not just yet.

    In my opinion, do we need a new ball playing goalie to fit the modern game and how ten hag wants to play? Big yes. Is it the most important thing for us to address considering our limited budget? Big no. We don’t even have the midfield to play out from the back yet. Bruno Fernandez is so easily dispossessed, Casemiro is a destroyer not a ball carrier, erikson is just too soft and break under pressure. It would be perfect if we had the likes of Modric, krenkie de jong or even Bruno guimaries who are excellent in playing under pressure to receive the ball and safely transition it to attack. Secondly if I was given a hundred million £ to improve this team my utmost priority would be to get an excellent striker first considering non will come cheap. How do you get a hundred million £ and decide to spend half on Mount and another half on a goal keeper coming from a season your biggest problem was scoring goals and your keeper just won the golden glove. Yes we needed a modern goalie but it wasn’t the utmost priority when we have limited spending

    Makes me laugh.......most like oooohhhh a new keeper who can play with his feet where on to a winner! Yet our defence cant play well most of the time with there feet and our loyal keeper we had who in fairness couldnt play with his feet, but still saved our arses over and over single handedly with epic saves had a bad day 3/4 times a season but still won the golden glove with a shocking defence, and he also agreed to reduced wages for our club to stay when we need the funds available to use for a striker after spending half on mount, so all of you happy that de gea is gone and onana may be on the way please dont cry when we have tom heaton as our #1 or martial as our only striker again 😅

      Wow way to be so negative. We'll have our striker for sure but De Gea costed us two cups last season. First the disasterclass in Europa League against a Sevilla we were absolutely smashing with Martial as a main striker. Also with a city we could have beaten if it wasn't for that absolutely shocking goal he allowed.
      Absolutely bullshit that our defenders can't play with feet. Martinez is the best at it and Rapha is not that bad. Victor is the most accurate passing defender in the league according to stats last season.
      We have Shaw who's just as good with the ball. Mount was added for the many qualities he has and one of them is being comfortable with the ball.
      United are building something and any striker coming will find it very easy to play in the team. I'd also love Kane but I don't think we could afford another season with De Gea figuring out his basic passes and us getting smashed by Bredford bacause we can't facking build from shit.

    Have no Idea what TRANSFORM means in the context of Manchester United improving. United's lacking component last year was in scoring goals. They finished 8th. 36and 30 behind the Top 2 teams. That seems to be the deficiency. Their GK had 17 clean sheets which was almost half there games. Changing the GK this year wasn't the need at United. Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen are the type of players needed, especially Kane. All fine and good to diagram the GK 's ability to play out from the back, and DeGea was lacking, but here's the thing, who is Onana going to be playing out from the back too. And once he's played out from the back, who's going to score the goals? Martial, Fernandes, Mount, Antony? Build up is great, but who puts the ball in the opponents nets. Onana can be the greatest passes the game has ever seen, but he AIN"T scoring goals. And lastly, people are all over DEGEA for his errors and now we are being told that Onana has a howler in him.........but he's great with his feet.......bugger.

      (hmm, not sure if you're a United fan? but just in case you're actually serious about not understanding)
      TRANSFORM in the context of Manchester United improving, was very well explained imho...
      In the video, they mention scoring more goals with this type of keeper:
      Having a ball-playing keeper who also is a deep-lying playmaker always gives you numerical superiority in your penalty area.
      The result will create more space behind your opponent if they attempt to match up with your players while pressing the ball.
      If they decide not to press high, GREAT, then this type of keeper will just steal yards up the pitch.
      This also allows a higher starting position in general for your entire team, meaning they have less distance to travel to close down opponents, find a pass, pop a one-two, shoot for goal, etc, all resulting in using less energy over the 90 mins...
      (This is accumulated over many games so has the added benefit of minimizing muscle fatigue over a season).
      This type of keeper helps a team create chances more easily as they effectively make you play with 11 outfield players against the opposition's 10 (if they don't have a similar keeper).
      Every player will gain at least a second more time on the ball to make better decisions to finish off moves...
      Yes, United had a lot of clean sheets, in some games the teams' structure was so good you'd often hear Ten Hag state after the game that "we limited them to zero or only 1 shot on our goal".
      So the teams' shape, structure, and the players' roles in their respective positions are also attributed to the clean sheets, not only the keeper.
      Ten Hag wants to "defend with 11 and attack with 11!"
      So when fans complain about Antony or Sancho 'not beating their man' it won't be as obvious as the teams' passing sequences won't be broken so often as they can now use the 'extra man at the back' to recycle the ball in possession, thus wearing out the opposition, waiting for lapses in concentration, just like all of Pep and Ten Hag teams have done over the many years.
      (for this, just think of how easy it was for someone like Sterling to score so many while 'playing his role' in Pep's system... are any of United's forward players worse finishers than Sterling?).
      The attackers will also conserve energy not having to constantly win back the ball from aimless long keeper punts, and having more energy to put into attacking phases.
      The teams' structure doesn't have to have a Kane or Osimhen to make it work, it just needs someone with enough quality to play their role effectively (like Haller proved in CL for Ajax).
      Lastly, Onana has been the best CL keeper a few times when it comes to everything 'without' his feet so dw too much😉

      @@syphonstube Thank you for that explanation. I actually understood everyone of your points and it was well detailed. But here is what I am saying. Everyone is focusing on Onana and his ball playing ability and as you so well document the effect that will have in various areas....but the point still remains.....who is going to score the goals, especially at a pace that will be required to win titles. It's one thing creating chances, it's a completely different thing to score goals. That's my whole point. Onana , unless he becomes revolutionary and is the first free scoring goalkeeper in the game's history, is not going to put the ball in the net. Creating chance is a part of the game, turning those chances into scores is totally different. Everyone football person states that the hardest thing in the game is scoring goals. United scored 58, that's with Rashford having a career year for him. Rashford had 17 of those 58. That was 36 behind City and 30 behind Arsenal. City are annually scoring goals in the 80's. United don't have the personnel, especially upfront to address that deficiency. With a guy like Kane, that's a different story. Kane himself score 30 in the league. If he was on United last year, they don't finish 14 behind. In my eyes, United would have been better off put all those transfer fees they spent on Mount and will spend on Onana and whoever else they try to get, into a bid for Kane. It's a no brainer, and running away from Spurs because Levy is a tough negotiator is a lame excuse, if that was why United didn't try for case. He's suppose to be tough, that's football.
      Laslty, you have much more confidence in the Other 10 players to execute with and maximize Onana's ball playing ability. By that I mean, United midfield, who Onana will be playing to, are not a good possession base midfield. When you have a mid of Fernandes, Casemiro, Mount that doesn't bode well for possession football. United are still a counter attacking team even though Ten Hag is trying to change that. If he gets a Onana, then he's going to really need players like Frenkie DeJong, who has the composure and dribbling skills to make what Ten Hag want to do work. I just think United should have addressed the Elephant in the room and get a Kane or Osimhen, a proven Goal scorer. Once that was in place then they could have gone out and gotten Onana. People always use what happen at City when Pep got there and how he got rid of Joe Hart, because , like DeGea he wasn't good with his feet. What folks forget was that Pep also had Aguero, KDB, Sterling, Sane, Silva on that team. Replacing the GK was the LAST thing he did cause he had the other pieces in place. United don't. So let's see how they fair this season. Remember with DeGea, they finished 3rd in the league , won 1 trophy and lead the league in Clean Sheets. Will they better that by adding a ball playing GK,, a mid from Chelsea and an striker not named Kane.....I'm skeptical. If they better what they did last year, then the Onana move will be a success. If they don't , it's a failure. But at least they will be able to play out from the back and create chances , right?

      @@trevg9450😂 You don't understand football. Arsenal only scored 6 less goals than City and that's with Jesus missing 12 games. No one on Arsenal is a great goal scorer. If United kept De Gea but got Harry Kane, they would still struggle because Rashford goals would just go to Kane and they would continue to be a counterattacking team that can't control a game. Real life football isn't like FIFA.

      As it turns out, much of what has been said is hypothetical. Although there's empirical evidence to suggest them, no one can really predict the future. I get the need for an elite striker and heaven knows it's very necessary to get one. But there is also empirical evidence that having a team that can dominate the ball, create loads of chances and have goals coming from several sources can also work well. I still expect a striker to come in. Highly unlikely to be Kane. But if as a result of the goalkeeper, the team is more dominant and creates more good chances, not only will the team concede less, more goals should get scored and that, all things considered will be a good thing.
      About going to force Levy's hands about a transfer, it seems to me only Kane can do that, by putting in a transfer request. If United were to agree terms with Kane and there's a long drawn out conversation with Levy that ends up going nowhere, it's just Frenkie de Jong all over again. This way, the club is actually getting transfers done. Kane could be sewn up in January at this rate. But hey I can't predict the future

Overall his status is intact as far as I'm concerned. As for onana, he was part of the really good ajax side that did well in Europe under ETH so he's not a one season thing. Looking forward to seeing him develop.

    Never been a fan of De Gea. United have had some superb goalkeepers over the years. For me just stopping shots is not being a complete goalkeeper. You could probably train a Gorilla to do that. To be a complete goalkeeper of any era. Not just current. Is having the ability to control the flow of the game. To set up chances. To take control of corner kicks. Control the defenders. etc. etc. De Gea has always been a one trick pony. Crap in the air. Little vision. Poor with his feet. And a bit like a wet weekend in Brighton. A complete opposite to someone like Schmeichel. Who was one of the best we ever had. And yet many rave about De Gea. Not me. Onana might be a breath of fresh air. More of the complete package. United have had such a poor team for so long. More dead wood than an Ash forest. And we still have tons of players who should never have been there or long since gone. One step would be a decent goalkeeper. Add that to a player that can hit a barn door with a ball in broad daylight. And we might make 4th place again.
