We have all seen how Allison and Enderson have improved Liverpool and MCFC respectively with their passing and stsarting counters. Onana is an add to De Gea and MUFC.
Slightly disagree that De Gea is the only one to blame for Brentford scoring from that throw-in. No, he shouldn't have made that pass when he did, but there is a much larger issue for us, in my opinion. We currently do not have midfielders who are press resistant when in possession, meaning it is very difficult for our MFs to either find options to pass to, or for them to break past a press like a Frenkie De Jong/Modric would. Next step for us is building a midfield that is equipped to deal with pressing.
But JJ, isn't Diogo Costa renowned for being a great shot stopper AND distributor of the ball too? Could you explain why Costa would be inferior to Onana specifically?
JJ concentrates on Uniteds potential build up play and Onana beats Costa (arguably any other gk itw aswell) quite comfortably in that regard. Costa is the better shot stopper but doesn’t possess Onanas borderline elite qualities on the ball.
@@s.yohannes6429 i watched onana on the CL (to be fair i don't watch serie A) and i watch every Porto game. And honestly, i just don't see that much difference in their distribution. Onana might be more adventurous with is positioning and passing. But in passing skill, Diogo Costa is better. And if you are talking about long distribution, Diogo is much better.
@tomasprior3328 if you're a porto fan you're obviously going to be biased lol. either way - any transfer for costa would cost way more than onana given costa's age, so financially it makes more sense to go for onana than costa
Amazing how the game has evolved and the goalie asset is even more valuable "out of goal" so to speak. Makes logical sense but so fascinating to see this development. Surely he'd be downsizes exchanging Milan for Manchester, however?
After he did not play for a year due to his doping scandal and then forced himself out of Ajax without a transfer fee, many Ajax fans REALLY hated his guts. But tbh, many Ajax fans know he probably is the best Ajax goalkeeper since vd Sar, maybe even top 3-5 ever?
Why do we need Onana? Excellent on the ball, great goalie, sweeper and the perfect player to fit the system Ten Hag wants to play. He's our Ederson and Allison should we sign him.
The only issue is, Onana has a bit of an attitude problem. Specifically he fell out with Ten Hag at the end of his time at Ajax, and he also got send away from his national team because he didn't like the system the manager wanted to play. Not a great trait to have for a team in transition and a little bit prone to changing managers.
Except tbf, the national team coach was incompetent, and the short passing Onana wanted to do is exactly what Utd want from him. And Ten Hag wouldn't be pushing for him if he didn't believe their old falling out to be a non-issue
I thought him & ETH weren’t on good terms before he left Ajax. When he was banned for illegal substances. Isn’t that literally the reason he left to Inter Milan?
He was banned for inadvertently taking a prohibited substance. Ajax supported him whilst suspended and wanted to resign him to a longer contract after he served his suspension. However he declined to resign even after the support Ajax had shown him and was thus a free agent over the summer when inter signed him. Logically Ajax benched him because of this, but when they were forced to play him anyway because of injuries to other goalkeepers he wasn't focused, played really bad and also said that he didn't care what the fans thought about him when he was playing that poorly.
@@kevinrod14basically he is saying onana has what the football manager game would call a mercenary mindset. If he sees he can get a better deal he is willing to drop professionality as long as he sees no financial benefit to it. Those bad games and mindset at the end of his ajax run hugely dropped my previous very positive view on him.
Same here brother I’ll also want United to recall Kovar he’s also really good with his feet and will be our cup goalkeeper I don’t want Henderson again
Massive upgrade on De Gea for sure, so I would be very happy with him. But IMO Diogo Costa would be a much better signing. Costa may be a slightly worse sweeper, but he is as good as Onana at playing out from the back, whilst being much better than him at claiming crosses and saving penalties. Most importantly though, he is almost 4 years younger than Onana. Seems like both would cost around 50m, so its a no brainer to go for Costa instead IMO.
Why would he be cheap? Has he got a release clause? Because otherwise, he's got four-year left on his contract with the CL finalists. I can't imagine them giving him up easily.
Pep also made a good point about United. Even with a goalkeeper with accurate long ball distribution, our forwards lose the aerial challenge or can't hold the ball up so that also needs addressed
@@randperson7692 the point is we need a new gk but also forwards that can receive the long passes. If Onana comes in and is clipping these accurate long balls but we just lose them then we are back to the same issue in a way
Are there not, multiple reported incidents of Onana and EtH not getting on though? I dont disagree that a ball playing keeper would improve the side, but I dont want to bring one in that will cause issues in the dressing room.
every time i see a video for you guys (here or on your other channel - Tifo) i wonder ... how come that you do not coach a team i am overwhelmed - though not so expert about tactics myself - by the details you pluck when analysing 👏
If Manchester United wants to win the PL, they need to sign someone like him, along with a proven goal scorer in Harry Kane and a ball carrying midfielder who can break those lines when facing teams with a low block. They're currently lacking a lot of things, but I'm sure ETH will gradually improve them.
yea, the days when football was scrappy. i rewatched some united vs arsenal from the early 2000s and only now realise what i used to think was good football is actually crap

With all the talk about the feet, people are forgetting that the main job of a goalkeeper is to save goals. While de gea is not good with his feet, he is an excellent shot stopper. And with the history of man United’s leaky Defence I think onana will struggle because he’s a pretty average shot stopper
I think there's essentially two ways to prevent the opponent from scoring. proactive and passive. Proactive is when you retain possession, limiting the time opponents can have the ball, and we all know you can't score without the ball. Less possession = fewer chances to score. Then there's passive, where you place your bets on your defence to make tackles/block shots and the keeper to save shots that are on target. Logically, the proactive approach is way more sustainable. And I think you already know which category de gea belongs to without me spelling it out.
@@MrWill1729 what I’m trying to tell is that onana has his flaws just like de gea. Man united will become better at ball possession but when it comes to counter attacks from oppositions or a more quality team(man city, Liverpool) then shot stopping is basically the most important thing.
@@kanishk4017 i dont think onana will be worse than de gea. Maybe he wont make spectacular saves like de gea does but he also doesn't make simple mistakes. A lot of those 7 goals conceded against Liverpool were from really tight angles that a lot of keepers could have saved. His mistake against everton in the FA cup a few months ago(the one where he had one arm leaning on the post and the ball nutmegged him) was easily one of the strangest mistakes I've seen a "top" goalkeeper commit, ever. Even when it comes to shot stopping he's become wildly inconsistent, is my point
United need a new striker, defender goalkeeper and 2 midfielder at least. Because sancho and Antony aren't cutting it. And they can't depend on casemiro and eriksen always. Fred crumbles under pressure and mctominay just doest mctominay things. They don't have a striker right now, I wouldn't consider rashford upfront he's better on the left. So they need a proper striker, we saw how well they did with weghorst but he's the best. So they need another. There are many out there, but united being united are gonna be doing united things. ie wait until 30th August and then rush to sign any player.
Ok, and what is wrong with Costa? There was a comparison between Onana and de Gea but not the other options. Costa passes and distribution are also good, he just did not play in CL final. When Onana has quite a lot of problems as sweaper (shorter distances, more mistakes) and with saves in the contrast to Costa.
His past link with ETH and recent UCL final participation makes him a sensational clickbait choice to talk about, compared to others like Costa. I highly doubt United will get Onana, it's more viable to get other options as almost all are certainly better than de Gea.
My only problem is his age. 27 isn’t ancient, but we have so many positions where age will be a problem soon (the whole midfield, LB, RCB) that I would like 2-3 more years on a new keeper
Yeah but he’s a keeper, usually keepers have a better longevity than most positions he’ll give you like 4-6 years of his prime and after that he’ll still be a fantastic keeper similar to Neuer
Would've been nice to have a comparison of Onana to the GKs likely to replace De Gea rather than De Gea himself. This was all great analysis. Still don't understand why Onana is better than Diogo Costa or David Raya for United.

Im just relieved the Jordan Pickford links to manutd have stopped
You’ve done this video very clear, very good!!!
9:35 just look at him running back to his goal as soon as he passes the ball 😭😭
Well done video with alote of ways of understanding 😁👌
Wow I love your teaching, you are perfect in it.Onana is great and will be come the best goalkeeper in the nearest future.More love to you Sir for putting the African King and greatest footballer of all time in Africa Samuel Etoo❤❤❤
10:56 not a big tall lad!? I'm pretty sure that was Cristiano Ronaldo playing CF there. He is 6ft2 and renowned for his prowess in the air...
Manchester United fans deserve a good goalkeeper, hopefully they sign Onana ❤
Onana would be the Ederson to Man City, the Allison to Liverpool, for United, so so good
Honestly if we can get him I think in some ways he would be just as an important signing as a striker.
yes you can sign him in your dreams lol, forza Inter
@@movieshistory768 Don't get butt hurt my friend. 2 Things here, 1. I am not the Sporting Director at United. 2 I have no idea if we can even buy him with the mess United are in.

Very very educative and informative video. Great work!
We have all seen how Allison and Enderson have improved Liverpool and MCFC respectively with their passing and stsarting counters. Onana is an add to De Gea and MUFC.
JJ Bull - best videos on TH-cam. 😅
I didn't mean that sarcastically lol
Slightly disagree that De Gea is the only one to blame for Brentford scoring from that throw-in. No, he shouldn't have made that pass when he did, but there is a much larger issue for us, in my opinion. We currently do not have midfielders who are press resistant when in possession, meaning it is very difficult for our MFs to either find options to pass to, or for them to break past a press like a Frenkie De Jong/Modric would. Next step for us is building a midfield that is equipped to deal with pressing.
well.. this hasn't aged well so far and it's only been three months :')
Diogo Costa also was very poor in the World Cup so it's questionable if he can handle the pressure of being Utd number 1
Onana is excellent with both feet...where he absolutely trounces Costa is the composure on the ball.
JJ seemed ok with doing this United video. Thanks JJ!
This has aged terribly
Amazing how the game has evolved and the goalie asset is even more valuable "out of goal" so to speak. Makes logical sense but so fascinating to see this development.
Surely he'd be downsizes exchanging Milan for Manchester, however?
There much more money to be made in Manchester than Milan
In my opinion, I think they should sign Diogo Costa from Porto. He’s also very good with his feet and a good shot stopper. Onana is cool too though
Read an article about his really unfortunate “doping” ban and this guy has a really strong character I think he’d be a fantastic signing for us.
Excelent analysis!
ETH is a high level tactician. I'm impressed
And Ten Hag wouldn't be pushing for him if he didn't believe their old falling out to be a non-issue
he got a great relationship with Ten Hag, not with Ajax tho.
@@stenroelofs9077 ok?
@@kevinrod14basically he is saying onana has what the football manager game would call a mercenary mindset. If he sees he can get a better deal he is willing to drop professionality as long as he sees no financial benefit to it.
Those bad games and mindset at the end of his ajax run hugely dropped my previous very positive view on him.
I laughed so hard when I saw that top left touch near the halfway line in the city touchmap 😂
He improves united in possession and playing out from the back. I can’t do another season with de gea.
Same here brother
I’ll also want United to recall Kovar he’s also really good with his feet and will be our cup goalkeeper I don’t want Henderson again
@@ItsJesssee Henderson has burned his bridge with united so there’s no chance of him coming back, thankfully
Expectation: Onana
Reality: Pickford
👌
Pickford gets a lot of stick but he really is a great keeper
i don't mind Pickford, wish these Twitter trolls would stop criticising him.
Why would he be cheap? Has he got a release clause? Because otherwise, he's got four-year left on his contract with the CL finalists. I can't imagine them giving him up easily.
Havana onana~❤
Pep also made a good point about United. Even with a goalkeeper with accurate long ball distribution, our forwards lose the aerial challenge or can't hold the ball up so that also needs addressed
Nobody seems to point that out, they say instead that De Gea was at fault.
@@Nathan_NYX_8De Gea can't pass short either so it's irrelevant.
@@randperson7692 i meant that Rashford and all never contested for the duels.
@@randperson7692 the point is we need a new gk but also forwards that can receive the long passes. If Onana comes in and is clipping these accurate long balls but we just lose them then we are back to the same issue in a way
I'd love to see Onana and Maguire link up 😍
Are there not, multiple reported incidents of Onana and EtH not getting on though? I dont disagree that a ball playing keeper would improve the side, but I dont want to bring one in that will cause issues in the dressing room.
JJ looks really smart in that shirt. Nice.
Nice shirt JJ
every time i see a video for you guys (here or on your other channel - Tifo)
i wonder ... how come that you do not coach a team
i am overwhelmed - though not so expert about tactics myself - by the details you pluck when analysing 👏
JJ has some coaching badges...
Im so sad it clearly looks like we are losing Onana one way or the other.
I find it outrageous that a football player earning 375k a week can’t ping a 20 yard pass with accuracy.
If Manchester United wants to win the PL, they need to sign someone like him, along with a proven goal scorer in Harry Kane and a ball carrying midfielder who can break those lines when facing teams with a low block. They're currently lacking a lot of things, but I'm sure ETH will gradually improve them.
Every morning, I wake up and hope United are in for Onana.
He should be the priority right now, the first signing.
You had me at "worked under Ten Hag at Ajax".
The shirts at the back are in numerical order 😌
If Man Utd need Onana so much, then why didn't you include him in the sensible transfers video for Man Utd?
Not related to the video but where do you get the pictures they have on the wall?
Onana to manchester united HERE WE GO!! sources :- fab 😉
I can already hear the fans chanting.
"OOH NA NA, WHATS MY NAME"
"OOH NA NA, WHATS MY NAME"
De Gea didn't keep 17 clean sheets this season, Wan Bissaka, Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, Malacia won the golden glove
Than you could say the same thing about Alison and Nike Pope
I remember the good old days of football where the goalie was chosen because they could hoof it the longest. Good days those, good days.
Lump it up to the big number 9 (heskey) who lays it off to the small nippy striker (Owen). Could we see a return of this style?
lol blame Pep
Yeah, I remember when English football was boring too
yea, the days when football was scrappy. i rewatched some united vs arsenal from the early 2000s and only now realise what i used to think was good football is actually crap
@@tebogomohanoe5443Pep literally played a 4-4-2 in some games this season and called Big Sam better than him. Reckon Brexit Ball died with Marinho and was murdered under Conte. Those 2 lead to extremely effective, extremely non-brexit ball which then evolved into boring 7 at the back tactics
Wonder if Moyes recognized how DDG couldn't play with his feet and that was why fellaini was often in the team, to offer the long ball
i think ten hag watches your videos 😂
Nice shirt JJ, looking sharp
I thought Onana and ETH were on bad terms at Ajax after he was banned, or maybe I remember that incorrectly.
God dammitt JJ - I now want Onana at United. Constantly switching between Costa, Raya and Onana haha! Great watch
i would love to see a sensible transfers for inter!!! think about it.
Very good video . We’ll put together
Bro, you predicted the future.
What a video🔥
United need a new striker, defender goalkeeper and 2 midfielder at least. Because sancho and Antony aren't cutting it. And they can't depend on casemiro and eriksen always. Fred crumbles under pressure and mctominay just doest mctominay things. They don't have a striker right now, I wouldn't consider rashford upfront he's better on the left. So they need a proper striker, we saw how well they did with weghorst but he's the best. So they need another. There are many out there, but united being united are gonna be doing united things. ie wait until 30th August and then rush to sign any player.
Nice shirt JJ
I'm curious, did the Diogo Costa link in Portugal disappear at all?
Ok, and what is wrong with Costa? There was a comparison between Onana and de Gea but not the other options. Costa passes and distribution are also good, he just did not play in CL final. When Onana has quite a lot of problems as sweaper (shorter distances, more mistakes) and with saves in the contrast to Costa.
His past link with ETH and recent UCL final participation makes him a sensational clickbait choice to talk about, compared to others like Costa. I highly doubt United will get Onana, it's more viable to get other options as almost all are certainly better than de Gea.
Bro I once burst out laughing so hard I was nearly in tears watching a compilation of De Gea playing out from the back. He is atrocious
Exactly. I'm surprised they didn't do a comparison with Raya or Costa
Did you even watch the video? Comparisons to both were made a couple of times
@@Fro19 did you watch it? It was only mentioned in passing and they didn't bring up touch maps or heat maps of Costa or particularly about his distribution
why? because the others are available for transfer? or ......to see the defecities and strength comparison?....maybe something else we might not be aware of?..:)
