I think that the author was really saying that the father continued to believe that by ignoring his rising fear .. and continuing to send his children outside… it would somehow make it less real… almost an extreme version of the saying “ in for a penny… in for a pound”
      - and of course ur talking about a time in history when the patriarch ruled the house?… so the mother was behaving as an extremely dutiful wife … again… overriding all common sense and natural instinct!?…..
And then finally .. the great grandma… talked about listening to natural instinct in order to be safe from the creature?….
Clever and creepy story … but a lot of imagination and poetic license involved?….
      Quite a horrible tale! ♥️

Not gonna lie, after the father sent the second child I began to suspect that the father was either: A - An imposter sending the kids to their death or that B - The Father and the Mother were sending their kids to die to save themselves. Sorta like an offering.
The part about the bell tied to the things tooth was really interesting and the terror of imagining having that thing stare at you all night just waiting for the candle to go out is amazing as it is terrible.

  • @daddyzgirlz22
    @daddyzgirlz22 ปีที่แล้ว +53

the saddest part about this to me is that they were younger and younger as he sent them out. they knew they were going to die because they watched what happened to their older siblings. mary must have been so scared 😢 poor babies

Kudos to the person who tied the bell to it in their last moments. They must have been thinking of someone else, trying to save them. That’s the epitome of selfless. It’s also really the only way of knowing when it came back around as everyone near it is silenced and it was even more dangerous before the sort of warning bell

This story was kinda scary but it was more frightening hearing the father issue the same command to all his children 1 by 1i think! Also the way that the mother doesn’t take her own action to try & save them until there’s only 1 child left was crazy! I can’t imagine any mother behaving that way. Of course it was perfectly narrated as usual. Thanks Stephen.

The suspense ones are always the most scary. I can't believe that father, though. I guess that is what makes it evil, too. Not the scary thing in the dark, but the father willing to sacrifice his children. Even if he didn't know what was going on, after the first kid disappeared, he should have been the first one out the door with his weapon like any normal father in the country at that time would have, not sending the rest of his kids into danger. And the mother should have made the father go, too, or gone sooner herself.

I'm glad I waited until the end of the story to make s comment because I was ready to tear this one to shreds because of the behavior of the father and mother I'm glad the author was self aware it's really refreshing to hear a story where the characters aren't just stupid for the sake of the plot the author put in the work and earned the rite to make the father irrational and I love that the entity wasn't described it let's our imagination create a monster more terrifying than any story can make this really reminds me of the old mid 2000s and 20 teens creepypastas

What in the world is wrong with this dad? He obviously knew something since he lied about the wind so his kids wouldn't worry. He sent out the eldest son first which makes sense, but when he didn't come back, the dad should've gone. If he was totally shook by fear, why would he send the young kids out at night? If the mom didn't know anything was wrong until the end, why did she lock the door? And if they locked the door, why did they then send out another kid?
It makes the dad look really despicable and reprehensible, like he intentionally killed his kids. He wasn't frozen in inaction by fear. He kept sending them. If he was so afraid, why did he run out himself after his wife? As a parent, and knowing other parents, I don't get that. The urge to protect your kids is like primal instinct. If he was just a coward, I would picture him locking the door after he sent out the eldest, realized something bad happened, and huddling in fear with his remaining family, or at least played it off like "They're probably just fooling around. When they get back we'll unlock the door"

I knew he had to realize at least part of the way through if not half of the way through that his children were not coming back and something was wrong! Wow like they say you there are times when you can be right or you can be happy and I think this is one where he should have cut his losses right away and protected his family LOL love the story though love the creepiness and love that the grandmother actually tells him the whole story. She's funny though she tells him the whole story and then says a boy your age shouldn't know certain things exist and you already pretty much brought him all the way to the point where it's time to tell him what's up and then that's how you're just going to end it? LOL I'm so glad that she at least went on.

But my Grandpa Fawkes grew up on a farm in Iowa, and he lived to be 99, he had some good stories, too. It's amazing to think of just how long ago it was that he died, he was born in 1901.

I've seen all the other comments about the father sending his children instead of just going himself, I would like to clarify something. This is fairly normal, and one of the only reasons farmers and country folk have children. You often see them with 10 or so children(like my family) for the main reason that they're getting old, and want someone to atleast help with, if not do the work. The father was probably decently old at this point, and he likely couldn't fend off what could've been out there, with or without gun. He isn't what would be considered a heartless monster, just a frail old man who likely felt he couldn't do any better than his children.

I was convinced both parents knew they were doing this on purpose. But the mom changed later on. The dad was shady. He knew what was going on. He didn’t want to believe it. So do parents get possessed? is this why the grandma tells her grandchild it’s for the kids only to know this secret?

That man would rather send his children to die than admit he’s wrong and that something took his children because of him.
How can all but one of your children vanish and you stay in denial? After the twice is a coincidence but three is a pattern. He killed them for his own peace of mind.

It’s interesting how the father did that because he clearly couldn’t come to terms with the fact that he made a mistake that maybe killed his kids. His brain couldn’t handle the idea.

all these commenters complaining about the dad have never seen any piece of media from the 30s-50s. man of the house, the father, issuing commands to sons was the norm. it only got weird when the daughters started to go

How stupid could an adult be to do children this a way ! Lost all their damn children bc of their own pig headedness ! Oh that just makes me so mad 😠😡😤 They should have taken their own lazy asses out there themselves! But HOLY COW THAT WAS A GOOD ONE !!!😳

Excellent story Stephen, absolutely excellant. The metaphors were carried high but still not enough to turn the tale into a parable. I almost feel like this should have a lore to it, like a Krampus and a whole history of genre based tales that support it. Whoever came up with this knows their horror very well, I hope they know that they may well have created their own Slenderman. All it would take is a few more equally well written pieces, and a few origin tales and I could see reddit coming to the aid of those. It really does strike a chord in a parent's heart, the level that denial will take you too. Hahaha, a strange thing indeed, a creepypasta for the adults, or maybe I would be safer saying parent's, rather than adults. Thank you as always for your amazing work, and the quality of that work. Cheers Stephen , Lee.
Hahahah, why should I not have been surprised to hear this was written by one of my favourite creepypasta authors. The great Matt Dymerski himself , I should have known it was no mistake that the author was as good as he was. Ah well at least I'm good at picking up on quality hahaha. Lee.
