You know...the amount of times these sort of stupid things happen...and all because the adults felt the need to keep some dangerous thing "secret" from the children.
If you're going to get the kid to bury something important, be sure to tell them the WHOLE story, so at least they understand the importance of doing all the right things, so it won't come back.
This is just a basic communication problem.
Grandad clearly had no one but himself to blame for this one.
But I suppose...if the whole story was made known to the younger ones in every instance (don't look out of the window after midnight, don't open THAT door, etc) ...there wouldn't be much of a creepypasta story to tell, now would there? :P

Creepypasta plots (and poorly written stories in general) often rely on characters inexplicably withholding information from each other to move the plot forward.
Like...why didn't he tell his grandpa what happened? He just discovered that the stories were all true, and the one person who would know what to do about it...his grandpa...and decided not to tell him.

Excellent story, very good and creepy! It reminds me of a story I read years ago, about a were-creature, maybe a skin walker? was killed by an indian shaman centuries ago. The story went that the creature would revive and return to life if it's teeth were ever to be blooded. For some reason the bones could never be destroyed, so they rendered the teeth harmless by stringing them into a necklace that the Shaman kept and wore. They figured that in a necklace form, the teeth would never be blooded. Centuries pass, and the indian tribe is gone and the necklace falls into the hands of a tourist. He puts the necklace in his shirt pocket, but gets into a traffic accident, which drives the fangs into his chest. While he is not badly hurt, the teeth are blooded, and the creature returns. That story stuck with me for years. This story is much the same, a really creepy tale for a dark night.

Growing up in a holler in Appalachia Tennessee. Unicoi to be exact. This really was my childhood. We’d sit out n the back porch, break beans and watch the red fox come to the tree line to the ancient pond where the Cherokee used to hunt duck. Deep in the Cherokee National Forest there are caves and holes and creatures no mans eyes will ever see. The “Banshee” was something very real to us. My grandad used to say. If you hear her scream, don’t look back…just run. If you see it you’ll drop dead. As I got older I found out he told us this because there was a legend walking around but it was very natural. A black panther. He kept one he had shot in the late 40’s in a deep freezer along with an owl that had a 10 ft. Wingspan. These hills do have eyes also. Generations of humans that have lived , multiplied and evolved. Some into what we call “Bigfoot”. Some are more human looking than others. But most are man eaters when they get hungry. We all know why the Green Berates were called in when Dennis Martin went missing in Gatlinburg/ The Smokey Mountains/Cades Cove in the 60’s. Why they had their own channels and didn’t coordinate with the other search and rescue. It was to eliminate as many as those inbreeds as possible. They got most but not all. Sometimes you’ll see or hear footsteps a days hike from the nearest civilization…but you’ll never see what’s kicking up the leaves. Somehow they’ve figured out 100 % camouflage. True Story.

I was not anticipating this narrative if I am honest, but I was quickly excited to be along for the ride. I found the narrative, explaining the location, was nicely painted to come alive in the mind. That said, the stories from our elders are important, sometimes literally but often figuratively. These stories are often lessons in disguise and something you should learn from.
This thought was something that had my mind spiraling as I found myself drawn into the strange story of a boney creature hunting a human... I always enjoy the way narratives can tug and pull on the mind to form pictures from the point of view of the characters.

My life was Cleburn Texas. Ranch life, with a bit of farming, cows, chickens, geese's, and lots of rattlesnakes. Big Sunday dinners and naps. Lived through three tornados😢. Missing those old days😢
