Bought Sticky Fingers in 1978 after mowing a few yards. Was 12 years old . Went down to Ben Franklin’s Five and Dime. I only had a cassette someone gave me. It was similar to Hot Rocks . I got a record player for Christmas so Sticky Fingers was my first Album I ever owned. When I went to Record section I was determined to get me a Stones record! I saw Sticky Fingers! I was really shy so I was freaking out taking the album ,because of the cover, up to the lady to check it out . I sat there for like 30 minutes before got brave enough to check out. The Lady just checked me out like it was no big deal! I stressed for nothing lol. Got home put the Album on and my head phones. It changed my life! I had never heard anything like it. It had Blues, Ballads, country , Rock and jazz all in one album! Song after song it kept mesmerizing me as they played! Just a masterpiece that even a 12 year old could know that it was on another level! Greatest Album in history.

My younger brother was learning this song on his guitar. The other day when i made his headstone I included the inscription "HOME IS JUST ABOUT A MOONLIGHT MILE ON DOWN THE ROAD" .We laid him to rest at a small country cemetary, with rest of the family, about a mile on down the road from our home place where us four boys were raised. RIP Kenneth Wayne "Dorfman" Darby .
certainly in the top 3 and without Keith. From Dirty Work on there are enough quality songs to make one good album instead of the four or five they released.
Have seen the Stones 15-20 times and it is not only my favorite tune by them but was also my sons favorite song too! Have great memories of playing this song on my CD! Every time the moon was full or close to it we’d be on the road going fishing in the high Sierra Nevada mountains! My son was a magician on his skateboard and he’d get out of the truck and at the summit of Hwy 108 I would film him going down the scariest part of the narrow mountain pass and do his tricks as I would get him on film while I drove right behind him so he could see! It would be sometime after midnight so with the full moon in the background he would do the most daring tricks just praying there wouldn’t be any vehicles coming from the other side! Well long story short my beautiful blue eyed baby boy eventually committed suicide at the ripe old age of 27 he took himself out!! That was eleven years ago and I still grieve for him! This song was the one he would skate to in the high mountains and now I don’t play it enough.....😢😢😢

About a year ago (on the winter solstice) I lost my Papa. He told my mom when she was still a girl to play this song after he passed away. I stood in his driveway on that fateful day, listening to this and bawling my eyes out at how perfect if a song it was for him and his passing. Now I’m holding my son who bares his name and softly singing it to him so he can sleep. He would’ve been so proud. I miss you Papa, but I know you’re just down the road.
Mick Jagger opening his heart and soul to write this song, Mick Taylors guitar, Charlie filling the song with his perfect time-keeping drumming. This is the Stones at their brilliant best. The perfect conclusion to a perfect album. God bless The Rolling Stones. And RIP, Charlie Watts. You’ll always be about a moonlight mile down the road from your adoring fans.
Bless everyone who just wants to be close with another person. and be happy, and find peace of mind, peace of heart and soul. This is a very good song.
@TCBTT kind of, but do you really trust non bankers to make it all nicey-nicey? Humans in charge are just usually very flawed or so compromised by the others coming along

When I was 16 or 17, and when I would walk back to my home after going out and didn't caught a ride, I had at least 10km of walk through open Slavonian's field. During clear, warm summer nights, Moon would be so clear and so shining. Moon and this tune on a mp3 player would be my two best friends on my journey back home. Had great moments with this song, will never forget it.
That is a story to tell your kids! Remember to tell them about stuff like that; sometimes parents get so busy doing the Necessary that they forget to let their kids know they are People too!
It's such an emotional song, for it was played at my nephew's funeral five years ago.... they played it as his casket was lowered in the ground...miss you Pauly..damn
I was with my oldest sister when the Doctor told her to get her affair's in order. The most heart crushing thing I have been through so far in my life, she was gone 3 months later. The only comfort I have is I was the one with her for support when she got her ticket to HEAVEN. This song has always been one of my fav's, but now it has a hole knew meaning.
This, Beautiful Child by Fleetwood Mac and The Morning Papers by Prince are three of my most underrated songs ever.. They seem to get better every listen. Hand Of fate by Stones underrated also, but this is on another level.May be my favorite Stones song ever now, definitely the most played L5 years.
really, a "masterpiece," is the only word to describe this song...the winter of '72-'73 I would listen to Sticky Fingers on headphones when I got home from work at midnight so I would not wake up my girlfriend...to end this incredible lp with this song was the perfect end to the day...I never get tired of this LP
Hugo Sanchez awoke many afternoons with this still turnin on my turntable... at the end of the album - but still goin round ‘n round in scratchy silence 🖤
By far, one of my top 10 songs in my life!!!! I can still feel the cocaine rush, the "Head full of Snow" driving that Moonlight Mile! Really grateful I lived through those days!!!! 28yrs C & S this year in January, the 28th to be exact!!!!
Watched The Serpent and was so surprised when this lovely song was played at the end! I have not heard this song for over 40 years - Memories of better times flowed through my mind.. RIP to all the kids who never made it home. 😥😥
The Serpent bought me here. Emotional. I’ve travelled the world. RIP to the backpackers that were cruelly taken by Charles Sobhraj never to return home to their loved ones 🌎
The crescendo at the end building until Jagger's primordal scream like an orgasmic peak and then the fluttering descent to calm. A Stone's masterpiece that many have never heard.
Yes, a very great song full of loneliness & longing, beautifully illustrated in the video. Have we not all slept under strange strange skies missing something? What? Belonging? A want to return somewhere. That "home" of the mind. Have we not all walked at some time Ansel Adams' Western double sky-earth-moon landscape? Heard in our heart of hearts the wolf's call? Great for the universal chord of the universal human experience it strikes. Thank you for creating the video. I shall return to it again & again.
It was a Cold day, some snow melting, it was around 2AM and I was just walking down the road listening to this gem seeing the winter in all it's glory, trees bare, nice chill in the air, no one around just taking it all in, white clouds heaped up in a picturesque disorder. The stars would peak through and the moon was not full but it was there giving off a shine that gave you comfort.Simple lyrics, Taylor playin' nice & smooth, Charlie bangin' them at the right time & the Piano tickles in & out, it does not get any better. Yep' a great tune ....sort of brings a peace to the soul. Stay well mates...fare thee well
How about some love for Stone's guitarist Mick Taylor as well, because without him this song wouldn't have been written!! "We used to fight and argue all the time. And one of the things I got angry about was that Mick had promised to give me some credit for some of the songs - and he didn't. I believed I'd contributed enough. Let's put it this way - without my contribution those songs would not have existed. There's not many but enough, things like "Sway" and "Moonlight Mile" on Sticky Fingers and a couple of others." -Mick Taylor, in a 1997 interview with Mojo magazine
bookguitarguy i KNOW YOU-. hows it going? Mick Taylor has always been my favorite Stones lead guitarist...his elegant style and sensitivity and improvisation adds an ornamentation that Brian or Ron Wood never achieved . i love Ronnies Style, straight up joyous rock and roll, a celebration, and Brian played so many different instruments so well, the clarinet on 'Ruby Tuesday', and the sitar on 'Paint it ,Black" are really special.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I'm hiding baby and I'm dreaming, I'm riding down your moonlight mile....urgh, SO good...heard this once on molly, with every note surging through my body...with or without that, this is pure, beautiful, euphoric...what all music should be!
I left a comment a few months ago on the "Winter" by the Rolling Stones TH-cam video about how it was my favorite song. And it still is. But "Moonlight Mile" is truly special, too. It reminds me why the city life, although I lived it for some years, was never truly for me. I always loved driving back home to see my family more than I loved the Big City itself, and I think this song is about that same feeling, but from Mick's perspective. He hated touring and was always bored by how long it took sitting in the tour bus from gig to gig. I think this song captures the homesickness and boredom he and I both felt between destinations. The city life, and the traveling life, just isn't fun when you grow older. Age gives you a great deal of respect for the quiet country air, the static-filled radio, and a wide open view of the road ahead with the moonlight illuminating your view from all angles. And it also gives you the wisdom to know that these things are all that's ever mattered all along.
Am immortal masterpiece. Lyrics, vocal delivery, string arrangement, piano - everything. Deeply moving and poignant. I never tire of listening to it - I must have played it hundreds of times. Future generations will acknowledge the Stones' genius - We will not see their like ever again, I fear. .
They say you should write about the things you know. Amazing how a simple tune of longing and loneliness could come from an otherwise spoiled rock star, yet strikes a personal chord with anyone who just wants to just to go home. A beautiful recording which stands up after all these years. BTW, Mick played the acoustic guitar intro.
so much finesse, so many wonderful details. Drums, bass, slide, violins, piano. Everything seems so perfect. And Jagger's voice gives shivers. One of their greatest achievements musically/productions wise.
Their body of work over the years is truly phenomenal. This is such a beautiful song that can bring raw emotions to bear. Mick's voice is so in tune with the whole aura of the lyric that it can move you to tears.
Ok I’ve heard the stones since I was a kid, obviously on the radio and my brother was a big fan. I went through a phase where I wore out beggars banquet and let it bleed. Somehow I had never heard this until about a month ago. On the day one of my best friends passed away unexpectedly I just so happened to hear this song for the first time. And I can’t even explain how it made me feel. Why is this song not more well known???? Rest In Peace Sage. You’re just another moonlight mile down the road.
Simply beautiful and,for me,the Stones at their best and most creative period. I love all of the big hits but the less heard album material is what really touches my soul. This song will be played at my funeral.
Just absolutely brilliant song writing and composition. Mick using his voice like an instrument. They are really feeling the pain here. No wonder they are so great.
Had never heard this song till Stones tour 2015 (I think) . Keith Richards took the mike & and I thought it was the most beautiful song I had ever heard from the stones. Still think that today!❤️
me too...at some really rough times i am in my car and a Stones song comes on and somehow you know things will be OK...this is one of those times right now...and I am listening to this great song...
A Netflix series called ‘the serpent’ had this as the closing song, I didn’t even know it was The Rolling Stones until I looked it up because I loved it so much.. i knew immediately I was born in the wrong generation. I’m a ‘96 baby, but shoulda been a ‘56 child. This is real music.
They say if you crank this tune up on a dark gloomy night, your whole life might just come into perspective. We’re still out here searching & hoping for whatever it is we’re missing, on these highways at midnight.
Let's talk about sticky fingers for a second, A blistering campaign of classic rock and roll. With country songs, Blues songs, hard rock, ballads, some of the best rock riffs ever, amazing melodic solos via Mick Taylor.. And it just sails over the horizon at the end of this Gem, the greatest ending to a album I can think of. Sticky Fingers is probably the closest thing to a perfect record as there ever was.
For some reason this song reminds me of all the good friends i had when we were young and stupid, of some crazy nights we spent together and of a girl... Oh yeah, that girl... The Rolling Stones have always kept me rolling through thick and thin

The Mick Taylor stones were, but not so much now.
The Beatles.
@@andrewbriggs5248 unfortunately, they stopped touring and broke up.
@@andrewbriggs5248 Yes, the Beatles. It's them and then everybody else -- including the great Rolling Stones.
Very underplayed Stones' song. Love it when "The Sopranos" used it on an episode.
Yes! Literally just finished that episode a few days ago. When he's dropping the head lol.
Shirley Razo-Briones just finished that ep last night

What a gorgeous song. Just replenishes the soul.
Well said.....
One of my very favorites
This song goes right threw me
Emotionally intoxicating. Hauntingly beautiful.
Watched The Serpent and was so surprised when this lovely song was played at the end! I have not heard this song for over 40 years - Memories of better times flowed through my mind.. RIP to all the kids who never made it home. 😥😥
Yes, my feelings exactly. Hadnt heard this song for about 30 years. Wonderful to recognize Mick's voice.
Is that a movie or series?
Totally agree with you. Listening to it at this very moment. Absolutely love it.
@@heysus2014 It's a Netflix series :)
The Serpent bought me here. Emotional. I’ve travelled the world. RIP to the backpackers that were cruelly taken by Charles Sobhraj never to return home to their loved ones 🌎
A sorry tale Liam , wasn't it?
@@rocker69ist choked at the end when they played that beautiful track for the victims ☹️
@Liam, same here, one of my favourite Stones tracks, and so fitting somehow.. a gripping true story...
Me too, Liam, great series. I can't believe I'm only discovering this classic song now.
was in all the same places 35 years ago. An amazing choice of final tune for the end of the serpent
The crescendo at the end building until Jagger's primordal scream like an orgasmic peak and then the fluttering descent to calm. A Stone's masterpiece that many have never heard.
Guitar played on open G with the low E in G and beautifull slide all along.
You're right, I didn't until I saw a reference in the Guardian article for Micks 80th birthday today
You will never hear a song like this again..............God Bless those rag tag boys from England
Stay well mates...fare thee well
Very poetic! You paint a great picture with words ... and the feeling is there, too. Stay well & happy trails to you, too! :)
“To all the young intrepids who set out with big dreams. But never made it home”
Made me cry
Loved the serpent
Totally stunned right at the end...when that caption came up ! Just burst into tears 😩
Goosebumps.. 😥
First time id heard this song. Beautiful
Charlie. Watts.
That steady drumming underneath this masterpiece
One of my absolute favorite Stones tunes. Love Mick's inspiration behind it, too.
And that is,,,,,,
Saw them in Pittsburgh last night and they played this! I lost my sh*t. That man hit every high note. It was magical.
Me too. And, yes, yes he DID. Jagger KILLED it....I was stunned they played it live....I was stunned I heard it....
The beautiful magic of Mick Taylor. Thanks TH-cam so we can give Taylor the appreciation he deserves.
Quite agree Lady Moonlight, cry every time I listen to it. I'm a drummer and I think Charlie's drumming is hypnotic.
My favorite song ever in my life. Will have it played at my funeral.
The Sopranos has the greatest use of music in television history
haha, the crew blowing up Phil's wire room is what lead to the "whateva happened there" sit down.
There's not many but enough, things like "Sway" and "Moonlight Mile" on Sticky Fingers and a couple of others."
-Mick Taylor, in a 1997 interview with Mojo magazine
bookguitarguy Did MickTaylor have credit on any songs written by him either before or after his stint with the Stones?
bookguitarguy i KNOW YOU-. hows it going? Mick Taylor has always been my favorite Stones lead guitarist...his elegant style and sensitivity and improvisation adds an ornamentation that Brian or Ron Wood never achieved .
i love Ronnies Style, straight up joyous rock and roll, a celebration, and Brian played so many different instruments so well, the clarinet on 'Ruby Tuesday', and the sitar on 'Paint it ,Black" are really special.
+bookguitarguy
In my humble opinion, the Mick Taylor years were the best. I saw them 4 times while Taylor was with the Stones.
+Tom Edwards That's a good question... I don't know!
+Ed White Hey Brother. Just saw this now, I'm doing pretty well, how about you? Trying to remember where I know you from... hope you're doing well!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I'm hiding baby and I'm dreaming, I'm riding down your moonlight mile....urgh, SO good...heard this once on molly, with every note surging through my body...with or without that, this is pure, beautiful, euphoric...what all music should be!
The perfect song to end one of the greatest albums of all time
I left a comment a few months ago on the "Winter" by the Rolling Stones TH-cam video about how it was my favorite song.
+SclafaniBagni Beautiful comment.
'Winter' is a brilliant unknown Stones' song apart from fans. You made a good point (s); hope all ok with you now.
SclafaniBagni. Ahhhhhhhhhhh Winter, captures the essence of a cold winter.
@@bobrob8588 Your observations were good to read, thank you
Well done sir.
Am immortal masterpiece. Lyrics, vocal delivery, string arrangement, piano - everything. Deeply moving and poignant.
I never tire of listening to it - I must have played it hundreds of times. Future generations will acknowledge the Stones' genius - We will not see their like ever again, I fear. .
I would not have wanted to live throught the 70's without the Stones as my soundtrack.
The drama created by the dynamics of the music is marvelous. Put the headphones on and go anywhere you want to.
Well said :) Yes, it is quite awesome how this song can do that...and here all these years I thought it was just me. :)
me and brother charles we use to listen to this over and over now just me.
Excellent comment, anyfucking where!!!
They say you should write about the things you know.
Amazing how a simple tune of longing and loneliness could come from an otherwise spoiled rock star, yet strikes a personal chord with anyone who just wants to just to go home. A beautiful recording which stands up after all these years.
BTW, Mick played the acoustic guitar intro.
bravo
liamtz He belongs home. Wilson is inappropriate anyways. No one should let lust rule your emotions....it's a temporary emotion only.
Your critique also stands the test of time - thank you
so much finesse, so many wonderful details. Drums, bass, slide, violins, piano. Everything seems so perfect. And Jagger's voice gives shivers. One of their greatest achievements musically/productions wise.
Here from the end of the Serpent. Brilliant series. Hope Sobrahj rots in jail for however many years he has left
I haven’t heard that one in over forty years. Great album & a great time to be young and free.
This was and IS the Rock and Roll at it's very best!!! Thank You Mick and the Boy's.
Their body of work over the years is truly phenomenal. This is such a beautiful song that can bring raw emotions to bear. Mick's voice is so in tune with the whole aura of the lyric that it can move you to tears.
Most Underated & Overlooked of Stones Songs. My favorite from their phenomenal output of rock classics. One of a kind composition.
What a masterpiece!
beautiful song - so many people are unaware of this side of the Stones. brilliant ballads - beautifully sung with excellent musicianship
I want this played at my funeral......
Me too!
Yeah... good idea, me too!!
I grew up on this album. Man, does this bring back memories...What it's all about!!
Yes sister 👄me too
I lost my mom 2 weeks ago. Miss her. This helped.
That actually gave me chills. I love those drums and Mick's gentle vocals.
What a hauntingly gorgeous tune, and Jagger's falsetto at the end is perfect.
One of favorite tunes by The Stones ❤
Cathy McCoy damn you look like youve had some hard years
Ok I’ve heard the stones since I was a kid, obviously on the radio and my brother was a big fan.
This entire album, Sticky Fingers, is just really put together in the right order
Complete timeless masterpiece
Simply beautiful and,for me,the Stones at their best and most creative period. I love all of the big hits but the less heard album material is what really touches my soul. This song will be played at my funeral.
Thanks my friend.
The Sopranos, just an amazing show...can't get enough of it
'Moonlight Mile' and 'Winter'.....Yup. That'll do it.......
I am Jaguar Paw! This is MY forest! Did someone say Winter 👍
Good God .youve stoned well
Vero
Soul uplifting, heart-wrenchingly perfect in every sense. This song becomes part of you.
What a Beautiful song. Moonlight Mile. Best track on the Sticky Fingers Album.
I lost my mom in 2020. This song helps!
GOD how heavenly beautiful music. Tears of enjoy are coming!!
Two others you might like are Sway and Winter, just gorgeous.
Glad to know this song hits so many like it does me, love u bros n sisters

me too...at some really rough times i am in my car and a Stones song comes on and somehow you know things will be OK...this is one of those times right now...and I am listening to this great song...
Beautiful imagery for an under-rated Stones tune. Thanks.
Instrumental bouleversant au final...merci Mick Taylor.
The strings are magnificent !!! The Stones.....ultimate koolness. The greatest rock N roll band in the World.
And then there is this song.
Best song on the best album the Stones ever did. I wish Mick Taylor had stayed with them longer.
This song made me a Rolling Stones fan. Stones over Beatles by a million
We’re still out here searching & hoping for whatever it is we’re missing, on these highways at midnight.
maybe the stones finest moment. one of them. many
My emotions brought me here...
I AGREE, my favorite album of theirs
Sopranos introduced us to great songs like these which young guys like me would have never heard otherwise.
For some reason this song reminds me of all the good friends i had when we were young and stupid, of some crazy nights we spent together and of a girl... Oh yeah, that girl... The Rolling Stones have always kept me rolling through thick and thin
