  • This is something you rarely see. When the first punch of an attack is directed at the body. It's very effective, because it's not expected, but it does leave your head vulnerable. Today I show you my 3 favourite ways to make the first punch attack the body while keeping myself safe from counters.

    Most people do this especially when they are new because they always think that the head has all the answers, but forget that you need to hit the body first to unlock the response you want from the head. Body shots hurt and they make hands drop resulting for a cleaner KO to the head, or a KO to the body if you hit him right.

    I start with head shots because putting my fist in front of the opponent's eyes blinds him preventing him to see a body shot eventually coming.

    • @Docinaplane
      @Docinaplane 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right about that! Learning to use my hands in TKD made all the difference. My suggestion for you is to really concentrate on using a right cross, especially when you clash and are close to your opponent. Remember to keep your guard up, which is another weakness in TKD, and throw the cross like a boxer. You can also use your left hand to deflect your opponents lead hand as you punch. DO NOT bring your left hand back to your waist, always back to guard!

    Good one.
    That’s what I was thinking that you are a little open when you go to the body. Yet with the left upper cut the body or liver shot if you keep your right hand high you can avoid get hit to the head while coming in. And of course Jabs will still help to set up body shots.
    I saw a video breaking down Ray Robinson’s fight with Jake LaMatta’s fight called ,”the saint Valentine’s massacre.” Ray Robinson would continually target 🎯 Jake’s body with a straight or looping right. Eventually it helped set up the stoppage in later rounds as he was able to land punches to the head. Ray Robinson used this on Randy Turpin and Carmen Basilleo also.

    For me, body shots are my prime because im 5'5 and most of my sparring partners are taller or faster than me. Plus I cant see that much closely so for me at least - ill grind you down from your body and once your head is exposed, ill give my best to target that but mainly the body, guts, liver. Plus its more satisfying to hit the body, especially if you manage to hit me to get me pumped up enough to do my boxing 😁
