After having so many coaches use Oregon as a pit stop, Lanning is so freaking amazing. I love Dan, I believe in him. He’s going to get us a natty

Agreed, feels like too many coaches have used Oregon as a stepping stone in the past.
I hope he does bring us a Championship.
But, I hope people remember this when we have a bad year, Helfrich was just as dedicated, but after a bad season, everyone turned their backs on him, not trying to compare Helfrich to Lanning, just saying that sometimes our fans can turn on a coach just as fast as they support him.
I for one am "dang" glad Dan is staying, and will support him even when he has a bad year, because I believe he is one who will learn from his mistakes, and only get better.

Lanning doesn’t owe anybody an explanation. He could let actions speak louder, but he’s giving fans what they feel they need which is reassurance that he’s staying. To me, that shows he cares about Oregon

Dan Lanning realizes what has been given to him. A complete college football progrum all his own with unlimited finances. He doesn't have to fill anybody else's shoes. Dan Lanning has high standards that will motivate him and everyone he comes into contact with.
Winning in the Pac 12, will not transfer to winning in the SEC.

Recently, us Oregon Ducks fans have some serious PTSD about our coaches leaving after just a few years. I'm thrilled he is staying. I'm all in on Dan....I'm going to start pronouncing 'program' more like, 'program'. :) Go Ducks! The future looks bright.

Dan has young kids and a beautiful wife who told him no more moves until the kids are off to college, he is like Bellotti at Oregon, he is not going anywhere. I love Dan but he is still tied at #2 with Bellotti until he does what Chip Kelly did and gets us to a National Championship, no disrespect intended. I will grant that Dan is a WAY better recruiter.

The reality is Alabama was dominant because saban was your best option to win and go to the nfl so they could stack talent. These days that advantage doesn’t exist not only did commit to saban and not Alabama but these days nil maters and Alabama hasn’t figured that out. Even Georgia hasn’t been able to keep their depth in the nil era. The reality is Oregon provides great nil opportunities, great facilities, and an opportunity to build deep connections to the sports world. They provide a lot of opportunities to make connections to Nike, adidas and a bunch of other sports companies. There was a time where nobody on the west coast went anywhere but usc. Now usc regularly loses recruits to Oregon, big 10 and sec schools. Eras don’t last forever. There’s a reason sabans own agent has sent multiple coaches to Oregon to build their careers. Sabans own agent knows how good that Oregon job is and that you can build a winner there

Is it possible that no one who is already established at another school wants to coach at Bama? Not to mention the astronomical expectations they’d face at that campus? It’s an impossible task to perform at the same level as Saban did cause there is only 1 Saban and I think these other coaches know that. Another question is whether Bama fans are willing to accept that no matter who they hire that there’s gonna be a drop off in performance?

Exactly, and he knows he's already loved here in Eugene. He and his wife have really become a part of the community by going out of their way to be involved in local programs, and get the players involved, even more than when Cristobal was here. And make no mistake, he Cristobal was involved. It's just a different level with Dan. He wants to become the Nick Saban of Oregon. I'm not saying the GOAT of all of college, just an untouchable legacy here to where he will always be the bar.

Idk I don’t think Alabama is that much of a dream job like everyone is making it seem like. Not because of the state of the program but because of the expectations that come with it with a rabid fan base to add onto it. If you win 10 games at Alabama I feel like your job would be in jeopardy which is kind of crazy.

I hear and agree with a lot of fans saying, “Do you really want to follow up the best college football coach of all time?” That’s big shoes to fill, and Alabama fans have become accustomed to very high expectations.

2 things:
1. Whoever follows up Saban is looking at a short term. How tough is it to follow up Saban? And you don’t have Alabama/SEC expectations at Oregon as opposed to Bama.
Secondly, Phil Knight can match anyone dime for dime.
Those 2 things keep him at Oregon. He could end up at Oregon in 2 or 3 things.

I really wish you guys would stop comparing Dan to Taggert and Cristobal. Dan is head and shoulders above either of them! Oregon fans are absolutely ecstatic that Dan is here and those other two are long gone. Taggert, well there just anything to say about him. Cristobal, to give him some credit is a great recruiter but it stops there. He is not even a good coach, much less a comparison to Dan, look at his performance. Yes, he will win 9 - 10 games a year just from the talent he recruits - not because he can coach them up! And he sure doesn't teach his recruits either. Good riddance to them both!
If the 4 team system was still in place. He would've left. But going to the big ten and 12 team system makes the decision much easier.

Saban was also asked multiple times before he was interviewed for the position with bama. Including the the most notable quote coming from a Dec 21 interview where he said he wouldn't be the head coach at Bama. You know nearly 2 weeks prior to him actually interviewing for the position.
Look lots of coaches say they won't leave. Oregon is very familiar with this behavior. What is different is not many coaches put together social media videos and utilize school resources to say that they are staying.

Feels like Lanning is searching for the spotlight after not getting the job. He went to Tuscaloosa knowing exactly who they are and what they have. In a world where we know immediately when and where coaches are flying, you would never show up without the intention of taking the job.
