As a long time Souls fan, I love the Switch version. Portability fits the game well. And even playing on the TV is pretty good. Sure in some ways I kind of wish we got a bit more of an upgrade to the graphics, but at the same time the older style has a charm of its own. One argument I've seen on several videos is that a lot of people prefer the way Bonfires look in the original release and on Switch over the way the PS4/Xbox ONE/PC Remastered Bonfires look. I tend to agree with this. There's a charm in the way the original version of the game looked. Also in graphical comparison videos, it just seems like the Switch version is a bit more brighter and cleaner looking. This is a god send if you ask me. And even when comparing it to the older versions of the game Dark Souls on Switch looks like its still been cleaned up which is great.

Button mapping is definitely weird after playing Zelda for hundreds of hours, but coming back to Dark Souls after all these years on a Nintendo product is definitely a great feeling. Look forward to more videos man!
Button mapping isn't weird. Nintendo just put the A button in the wrong spot on the switch console. Lol. A/X goes at the bottom!

I still can’t believe I’m playing dark souls while laying on the couch with football on the tv in the background..I bought it knowing the sound issues & button mapping problem, but it’s still totally worth it..I haven’t had any FPS issues at all, with headphones on the sound isn’t bad, it is noticeable but not a game breaker..plus it’s $40 and not $60 which is a huge plus..I’ve played a ton of DS2, DS3, bloodborne but this is my first time with part 1 so I’m very happy I waited for this version, oh btw, the brightness wasn’t bad for me either, overall performance I’d give it an 8.5/10..this video answered every question I had before I bought this game so thanks for the good video 👍

To be honest, Playstation aldo had problems with fps at certain area's.

Piece of advice for new players, play as a Pyromancer. It is literally easy mode.

Thanks for the first point (#10) - I've never played any of the Souls games, but I've been fascinated by the creature and world design for years. This game has such an allure to me, but is perhaps intimidating. I'm not a novice gamer either. Haha. I think I'll give it a go!

I played the remastered on PS4 and I played this version on switch. I prefer the switch. To be able to play this game on the go is mind blowing. Or hell, on your tv too. The graphics are fine

Honestly, From-Soft games are not all that hard. They are just brilliantly designed to make you feel weak. And there are no difficulty settings. Once you get a couple hours to figure it out you'll be fine. I actually think the difficulty is pretty close to breath of the wild.

I watched Digital Foundry's video of the audio differences - and I could tell the difference with my iPhone 6S's speakers. They thought the quality difference was significant, and I agree. The audio on the Switch sounds very muffled. That said, the Switch's audio also sounded "closer" when I tried on my headset. Something is very different, possibly more than the compression.

I think this may just be my next gaming adventure now that it's on sale. This year I've completed Zelda BOTW, The Witcher 3, and most recently Final Fantasy VII remake. Let's see what all the fuss is about :)

I'm playing through the game for the first time on Switch. I started two days ago and have been glued to it, already put in about 7-8 hours. I agree about the screen shut off gripe - I've been kicked to the title screen a few times as a result.
Has that been patched yet or is it still an issue
This game is unplayable I’m really regretting spending 40 bucks on it.
That's part of the "git gud" issue with Dark Souls. I bought it on sale in 2019, tried it, and found it to be unplayable (I absolutely hated the controls). More than a year later, tried again, but watched a couple of videos before I did, to get some bearings, and suddenly, it just clicked. I'd suggest you take a look at FightinCowboy's Dark Souls walkthrough here on YT, that will help a lot. :-)

I recently started playing Dark Souls on the Switch, and I can’t get over the fact that A and B are Switched 😂 I tried to remap them for SO long because I keep instinctively going back instead of accepting, so I had to redo whatever action I spent time on (character creation was a nightmare because of this lol). It’s one of those things that you don’t think about until someone changes it up
tbh, whenever I fire homing soul mass and they all hit at once, the sudden ourburst of sound is just unbearable. The noise was very loud and very rough (in comparison to other sounds at the same volume)
Thanks. I’m a big retro gamer but I’ve been very tempted to buy this on my Switch. Having never played it and not being the best at using anything more then the a and b buttons (kind of kidding but not really) I’ve been teetering in the decision. It’s not the $$, it’s the embarrassment I’m sure to face when I die repeatedly. That being said....I’m all in!!

From what I heard im guessing that the power button crashes the game because with the demo you used to be able to pause the game with the power button so I guess that's the solution they found to avoid pausing like they do in other consoles.

if u have a PSvita yes u can play it in ur toilet actually ;) Anyway nice thing Switch also has a game like this as most games on Switch at this moment are casual (with a few exceptions). Dark souls is also a nice entry point as it is not easy but not too hard either... I mean Demon's Souls was truly sadistic!

yes I encourage u to give it a shot.. it is surprising as u would expect a very primitive blueprint but it is instead an already formed Dark Souls with an extremely focused vision. Demon Souls was the real breakthrough, the most innovative and the most experimental. In a way it is the best DS but also the most unforgiving.. for example u do not have bonfires (or whatever they are in demon's souls) unless u beat the boss first. Something like Ghost n'Goblins I guess: u enter a level and u have clear it to the end no matter what. Then u have world tendency to make things even harder, open up new passages but close others... so many great ideas they sacrificed in order to gain a more mainstream market and create Dark Souls, hard yes but more accessible and less over the top weird.
@@n3r0n3 In Deamon's you can buy healing stuff without limits and farming souls to buy them is always possible. Plus the bosses are easier imo. I dont know if Demon's is the harder game.

Yeah, we're working overtime 😂 in the network test you couldn't really get to grips with the weight system. Lighter armour makes for much faster combat etc. (Mark)

If your turned off of a port of a game that runs better on a handheld than it originally did on any pc or console because of the sound quality not being up to par, your a difficult person to please . I played on pc with a dual shock 4 using ds4windows so my buttons have never correctly coordinated with the controls as displayed, but I never really look at them, anyway . All of the buttons are in the same position they were in for their coinciding action . To be honest, the offset analog sticks were harder to get use too and going from a trigger R2 L2 to the bumper had a slight learning curve but once you find your sweet spot (figuring out how you like to hold the device for comfort and efficiency) it's just as easy to immerse yourself as it always was .
I'm playing it for the first time and don't really understand the reputation to be honest. The games absolutely fantastic and worth every penny but the hardest thing I've encountered in the first 4 hours is being unable to remap the only 2 fucking buttons that actually need it. (sorry for the language but it's really yanking my chain and it's not getting better with time!)

I've pretty much given up restoring my humanity at this point....I just think the "hardest game ever" club must a) not have played indies as this isn't close to the hardest game I've played just this year, but it's by far the hardest AAA. Probably true of it's release year too. More importantly though b) it's a game that constantly teaches you. The difficulty's only unmanageable if you're not paying attention!

Honestly your just under leveled I you want to make the whole game super easy just grind like 20 levels and Bam rest of the game is nothing
The game isn't nearly as bad as a lot of people think. I'm a long time fan myself and when I first got the game my buddy told me I should pick it up at the time. It was 20 bucks. I told him I wasn't sure I'd want to buy a game that's hard and then play it for a night and never pick it up again. He told me that I would definitely get more than 20 bucks of fun out if it. I said okay and bought it. Fast forward to present day, I've beat the game twice (and played through 4 times trying to max everything out each time), have spent hundreds of hours in the game and loved every single second. Same friend of mine who told me to get it, now hates the game, never picks it up, won't even discuss the game or anything. I find that a real shame because I credit him with getting me to try one of my favorite games (somewhere in my top 5).
As for the difficulty, that's actually something that was played up by Bandi Namco rather than From Soft. The series creator explained that for him the difficulty wasn't to be a challenge but rather to enhance the rest of the experience and game world. To him it was never about "this game is the hardest game ever" but rather it was about "this will expand the meaning of everything, make the game more rewarding, and give greater context for this universe."
Dark Souls 1 is my favorite in the Soulsborne series and this game deserves every bit of praise it gets.
@@sephiwolf4472 I need to go back to it. Was thinking about it earlier today as I've tonnes of world exploring left to do. trouble is those buttons still need remapping! For a game that requires item management through menus that don't pause the game it ultimately destroyed the game for me. It's actually worse than it seems as well due to any text entry uses the OS keyboard meaning those 2 buttons temporarily reverse. It's kind of hard to swallow that the people who did the port are actually that dumb! Might delete my save and start from scratch but only once I'm ready to focus 100% on DS (in the absence of a patch). Unfortunately that may never happen because whilst it's a great game it's not good enough to stop playing Smash for!

Never played a soul game, the first thing you talk about its reassuring, I’m not the one you wants to punish himself with a game, at least not at first, I’ve enjoy hollow knight for tis difficultly but a was ease into it, I didn’t even hear of the second point, pun intendent, the third point, I think they are trolling, the graphics I don’t really have a opinion, don’t really care about it, always more interest in the frame rate, but I’m glad they are crisp, or is it hot? but yeah I prefer even more playing when I’m in the toilet or in bed, next, yeah I can see getting annoying after a while, I’m from a third world country and even then I would have the same issue, five, yeah its always glorious, I’m always the one in the dark room, the following point, as I said never played a soul game before, next one, always like when the switch game comes with the expansions, give me a feeling of money well spent, the almost last point, yeah I agree, with other games I have to do the same, but just when the colors are too dark, I don’t think they will implement something a like a unique configuration, but it would be nice, and the last point..... more, MORE, MORE!!!!! have a lovely day :)

You're basically getting an enhanced version of DS: Prepare to Die Edition on the Switch than the actual "Remastered" version. And I, for one, very much love that.
I love the way the Switch version looks better. The colors are better imo in the original game. I don't care how the blood looks like freaking cranberry juice and the grass is so bright green I feel like I'm in an Animal crossing world for a second. The darker or more subdued look of Switch and original fit the vibe of Dark Souls.

LOTS of veteran players came over to Switch. Nearly every summon has been an experienced player friend or foe. I didn't twink out my character but the first day people had already joined nito with low soul level and were cursing the beginners. the forest is full of people using elemental weapons waiting for invaders. I dont understand the fun in praying on beginners but hey i guess that's what dark souls is all about.
durkadur27 I'm loving the game and had some great cooperation on Switch so far, there will always be those nerds looking to cause grief to new players. They probably will just stay hollow 😂

I’ve played dark souls on switch lite for almost 3 years and I haven’t noticed any dips in frame rate or any bugs I have over 2,000 hours In the game and definitely recommend

The expansion is called Artorias of the abyss, not Masters of Artorias. But it was a good list. I will probably pick it up sometime. It's my 4 time as well, but it's just soooo good! Worth it every time!

You don't need to play ds1 before elden ring as they are in different universes but if you are going to play both I would start with ds1 as it is much simpler and will allow you to get grips with the from soft playstyle more easily

Exactly - it was the first impression I instantly noticed after starting the game on Switch and it pulled me right back to the pc/prepare to die-edition.
I can't get how ppl could say the compression is hardly noticable when I was about to get ear cancer after the first 5 minutes in the game.
I guess some ppl should definitely clean their ears once in a while..
You can hard swap the buttons on Switch. It's hidden deep into several menus where it isn't easy to find, but it's there

If you play offline you won't have to disconect. And because it autosaves all the time just quit game whenever you do need to put the system to sleep while online. Also it is Artorias of the Abyss.

I’ve never been a fan of the souls series to be honest. I get why people love it though. I’m not a frame rate snob by any means (picked up doom switch in a heartbeat when it released) but this looks like it isn’t that fluid. Not sure if it’s just me but it was a bit distracting. Idk if this is for me on switch it's hard enough on xbox one and I can't imagine dropping graphics and even slower play lol im having a hard time w/ zelda on switch idk how well these games and the ones like thre fps genre woukd do wll I hear doom eternal is good on this to but I rarely play on my xbox 1 so like idk if I'd be more willing on switch tho I did get xcom 2 on sale cuz it was cheap and came with the DLC war pf thre chosen is 40$on xbox lol 14$was a steal. I got most the 1st party games on black Friday sale too lol. But just need a proper Mario game kart and idk either odyssey ie 3d worlds n then im set for a yr lol. I hope they bring the games I cant play from psn since I lack a ps at all and I can't afford another console but I want them to bring the blood born games and demon souls to switch n maybe ds3 if it can be done that is. I love 3 thr most and im most addicted to that I'm stuck at fire link 1st area barely on the 1st game lol. I suck it's also 3 was my 1st soul game then I got 1&2 tried to beat it got stuck many times.

I be honest... I actually don't like it... I don't find it difficult but I just find it less interesting... Why? Cuz if you compare to spending more time to the likes of games such as dota 2, zelda botw, world of warcraft, diablo 3,witcher 3... It is not any where close...i know there are dark soul fans but I'm sorry its still a tier 2 game.... Its fun but not a must

D1 was awesome on the Switch, by far one of my most played games.
I just bought a new-used switch from the video game store still in box well taken care of and it had a screen protector already on. Since my daughter hardly plays with the new Pokemon Violet game I got her for Xmas, I got myself dark souls remastered Ed. I like it. Yeah I noticed that slight lag in the start of the game. But it's Kool.
I know i'm late in the game. First play on pc 2013. I rage quit. Until i have recommendation video from switchUp and buy it on switch. This is extremely fun and challenging. I'm having so much fun. Thanks from Indonesia
