Let's get this straight. This isn't a game with 5 endings. This is a game with only 1 ending. The game tricks you into think it's over, even if it's not
To any first-time Automata players - THE GAME DOES NOT END AFTER THE FIRST SET OF CREDITS. There is like 30 hours more unique story at least. There are 26 endings to the game, but Routes A-E (***do not look any of these up***) are essential to play. It's not made completely explicit in this video (unless I missed something) and there were plenty of games reviewers who stopped playing after Route A and missed out on the entire second half of the game. Every time the credits roll, think of it as the end of a chapter (unless you've accidentally got one of the "joke" 21 endings). This is my favourite game ever and I'm so excited for more people to play it. Very good review.
As a handheld gaming fan, I have absolutely used the switch as a port machine so I can play all these games I love in handheld. Now the steam deck has completely ruined my excitement for all these upcoming switch ports cause I now I can just play them handheld already. It's great I can play them but I loved the excitement of these games coming to switch and feeling new again.
best game ever made, 10/10 I highly recommend finished it on pc and will definitely rebuy for switch when it gets on sale if even just one more person will get to play this game the world will become a tiny bit better overnight
"Can you hear me now! Cause we're gonna shout it loud, even if our words seem meaningless, it's like I'm carrying the weight of the world..." Honestly my hairs stand up just thinking about that ending and that song. I got chills just writing this comment.
@@agardo_8582 well. If you want better visuals and performance get it on your ps4. But if you dont care about all that and just want it on the go. Then gof for switch. Buuuut. Since this game has been on other platforms for quite some time now. You could probably get it cheaper for your ps4. Probably that is.
Been waiting for this one since I got my switch! This game is in my top three, and it got me back into gaming along with the Witcher 3. Incredible game. The writing, music and gameplay are all top shelf. Was worried it would be more overpriced, but that’s very fair. I’m trying to work through Nier Replicant on PS4 now but will definitely double-dip on this during a sale as I haven’t played it since 2016.
Exactly, I just bought a switch for the first time, and I am really happy about the indie and 4-10 year old games being ported. It just feels bad to play old games on the PS5 (I know…. I know… first world problems), but on the switch, it just feels right, I will finish many ports on the switch.
In their defense, once the "on the go" novelty wears out, you're stuck with the shit of the ports. With the release of steam deck, you got the worst of both worlds. That said, don't let it bother you.
@@letterm6656 >implying on-the-go will wear out lmao, there’s a reason the Switch is selling legendarily while Sony is being left in the dust. On the go ALONE is a great reason for anyone who’s not a teen.
After this, I'm definitely waiting on a Nier Gestalt port. I believe the original Nier Gestalt is one of the greatest stories in gaming alongside the Last of Us part 1.
I have Nier on the PS3 and I really enjoyed it. The soundtrack is awesome. Being mainly a Nintendo gamer it was sad to see this released back in the day and I didn't have the console for it. So excited to have this on the Switch! And physical! (Albeit, no special collector's edition). Great review!
I plat'd this on my PS4, and will happily double tip on the Switch. One of the most influential games in my life, and a such impressive port at that, deserves my recognition.
Definitely one of my favorite games ever, I sold my PS4 version and totally regretted it. I was hoping that this would get a Switch port! Thanks for getting this review out before release!
I love this game even tho I only "finished" it once (people who played it know what I mean) and when I was gonna continue, it was no longer on gamepass. So I'M gonna get this one as soon as it's out
Thanks for another great review and another addition to my backlog! lol. I actually picked up the game on PS4 during the holiday sales last year, but never even broke the shrink-wrap on it. I do 99.9% of my gaming on the Switch nowadays, so when this was announced (for Switch), I was excited about nabbing it. It's great to hear the developers delivered a solid port of what is a largely critical acclaimed gem.
I feel like saying there are multiple endings to this game is kind of misleading. The credits roll several times but I wouldn't say that means much in the context of this game.
Thank you for this amazing review 🎉 I was hoping it would turn out, as it did 💯 Became a Platinum fan recently since discovering Astral Chain, so can’t wait to pick up Nier 👏🏻
I played the first Nier right when covid hit and everyone had to isolate. Really hit close to home during the pandemic, plus I was alone for months only ever getting groceries delivered. But this game and the original Gestalt, really helped me through it all.
For those who have never played Drakengard or Nier. Be prepared. The director of this game have a very unique way of telling stories. He's really good. Just be prepared.
Loved this game on ps4. Tempted to get it, just to play it handheld. This game has so many quirky Easter eggs. especially with the endings. You can blow up the Space station by self destructing. Or 2B can off herself if you remove her personality RAM module in the inventory
Automata was a game I was honestly going to originally just skip entirely, but I am so glad that my friends + some internet gossips got me to change my mind. This game is just a jewel. It really feels like some long-lost PS2 era grand masterpiece; similar to say, Ico or SotC mood-wise, but with gameplay mixing 3D Zeldas and DMC in a delightful manner. The story and subtext do lean more towards the Silent Hill 2 / MGS2 / Ghost In The Shell side, and it absolutely uses many of its themes in a clever, interactive manner to boot. Whether you're a total newcomer to the Taro's madness, or an experienced DrakeNieR fan, I can wholeheartedly recommend giving N:A a shot. Preferably playing it to its epic, true finale.
I will be honest this review is definitely gna make me buy this game. I did not know platinum games was involved in this and I loved Astral chain. I'd say respectable price as well. Thanks for the review.
To anyone playing for the first time, please please please do not stop after the first ending. This is the only game I can think of that I’ve played that actually had actual consequences And, without giving any away any spoilers, make sure to be online when playing the game to get the “true ending”.
100 percent. 'That' ending... I was in tears actually during the final moments when I realised what was happening, why I was able to still keep going.. all that humanity...then that decision your given to make.. the most mind-blowing ending in a game ever. Still makes me emotional rekindling those thoughts. I decided to 'help' everyone in the end of that run..the final run... I'm ready to do it again on switch...
Thanks for that tip. When you say online, does the passive unpaid for online count? Just have the Switch connected via wifi, I mean? You poor for Nintendo online for now.
@@jaredponder4149 it's not 'online' as such as a game really. But that ending is 'connected'.. wifi should be fine as your not playing with everyone. It all comes clear when you get to it. Don't want to say more except... you need ending 'E'
@@jaredponder4149 correct. The first time I got to the “true” end, I was not connected to the WiFi and couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t able to complete the game. I had to look it up, and I’m doing so, spoiled the impact of the true ending for myself. I was still impacted by it, but I’d prefer if everyone get to experience it without having it spoiled.
I've wanted to grab this on PC, but with working 10 hours a day on a PC getting into any games has been tricky lately. So my switch has been getting quite the workout, love that this has been ported and coming out on my birthday seems like a sign!
Hot damn! A succesful port eh? Nice! I played and finished this game on my ps4 multiple times (gotta finish it multiple times for the real ending, Yoko Taro Style). It's really really good! I mean i have always been a Yoko Taro fan. His games are usually good. I highly recommend this game. In fact i myself might double dip and buy it for my switch too someday. 😋
Just to explain how NieR Automata works (as I've seen so many people think the game is over well before it isn't) First 'playthrough' with 2B is about 16hrs then some end credits play. Then you replay that same story as a different character condensed into about 6hrs but there's alot of differences from that character's point of view and then the game 'ends' again and some credits roll. Then there's a 3rd 'playthrough' that continues the story from the point where the first two END (not the start) that lead to the true ending (total about 25-30hrs) PLEASE don't think the game is over after the first run with 2B, you're literally missing more than half of the game & story 👍🏻
Visuals only compromised because of the Switch capability, but still a looker because of rock solid art direction and wise porting! GET THIS GAME. Wherever you can. We're talking about one of the most beautiful and important pieces of art and entertainment. And as a plus: with the greatest soundtrack ever made, not only in video games and not exaggerating. I've played hundreds of video games, watched thousands of TV shows and movies, and this got to be, again: the Citizen Kane of its media. Fan or not of the genre or Japanese productions, this is one you simply got to experience because of countless reasons.
I'm mainly interested in the exclusive cosmetics, specifically the 2P skin. Is this unlocked immediately and can play from the start with any of the exclusive skins? Or do you need to play thru story once to unlock it? (also kinda disappointed it is a Nintendo exclusive, would much rather see it in higher quality on other consoles or pc, makes no sense especially since 2P came from Soul Calibur 6, which isn't on switch, tho it should be). EDIT. Thankfully its right after the beginning bit, so took rougly 40 mins to unlock and use the dlc skins (including the ones i bought the game for, 2P) Immediately best legit version of the game (that isn't the pc version that can mod 2p in with nexusmods right from the start)
I adore this game thoroughly, but it's impossible for me to see the title without cringing at the way I used to pronounce it. As soon as I realized it was the plural of "automaton" I kicked myself for not realizing it sooner. Hearing you(and a number of other game reviewers) do it as well gave me some peace of mind. 😅 Enjoyed the video. This has become far and away my preferred channel for Switch gaming. Thanks again.
More info about the endings: There are five main story line endings, where the first two aren't real endings but more like an important story point midgame. You get different endings depending on one choice in the end but to see the true ending you have to play through both. Every other ending is more or less a joke and not canon. For the visuals I'm relly impressed from the switch. NA doesn't look that good on other platforms as well tbh. But I would give the audio a definite 20 out of 20. It's just perfect. Great video, you said nothing wrong about the story ;)
Great review. It was helpful to catchup on the story line of the previous games. I’ve often seen this character appear in TH-cam videos but taken the interest till I owned a Switch. I’m a fan of action games like the Witcher and the reference to it won me over. Thanks for a great detailed review
Yep-Add that to the list of games you got me to pre-order! Looking forward to playing this next week. Looks like a great port. Another excellent review that told me everything I needed to no, and didn’t spoil anything. Cheers!
Make sure you don't stop after ending A or B. He wasn't super clear about in this review, but the best part of the story comes after you get ending B. You haven't truly experienced the game until you finish ending E, so PLEASE do not stop early. You'd be missing the part that takes this from a great game to a true masterpiece.
So relieved that NieR Automata runs so well and looks so good on Switch. I missed this on PS4 and was thinking about picking up a copy to play via backwards compatibility on PS5. However, I just want it on my Switch. Yeah, it’s only 30fps, but it’ll be great to see it’s icon sitting next to Bayonetta, Astral Chain and The Wonderful 101. Heading over to the eShop to preorder it now!
I know that this game could've had better graphics for sure on switch (handled mode), but honestly after a couple of minutes playing you don't really care about it. It's a great game with solid performance and with a great combat system. The story is amazing and i feel ashemed i didn't buy it on my previous home console. If you're able to pick this with a discount on the physical edition, go for it without a doubt, you'll love it
The Forest Kingdom drops frames even on High End PCs, it's part of the initial big outrage about a lack of patches for PC. Luckily with the Epic Games release there were also patches for Steam. But Forest Kingdom never stopped dropping frames... even tho i wished frames were the only things that dropped in that forest. 😪
Great review on an even better game. One little note though: It is not really open world. Most people confuse the term "Open world" with "open areas". This game has a classic zone based structure with multiple bordered and separated areas. Imagine Ocarina of Time on a larger scale. Game is a masterpiece nonetheless.

Self destruct option makes this game's assests really shine.
best game ever made, 10/10 I highly recommend
finished it on pc and will definitely rebuy for switch when it gets on sale
if even just one more person will get to play this game the world will become a tiny bit better overnight
That ending.....whooooooo....gave me hope that there's still humanity in the world.
"Can you hear me now! Cause we're gonna shout it loud, even if our words seem meaningless, it's like I'm carrying the weight of the world..."
Honestly my hairs stand up just thinking about that ending and that song.
I got chills just writing this comment.
Ready to double dip. Definitely top 10 of all time for me. You need to play through this multiple times, but you’ll want to so it’s all good 😊
Haha. Im ready to double dip too. I wont get it straight away of course. But i will definitely double dip. 😄
This would be a triple dip for me as i have it on ps4 and steam 😬
Can’t decide if I should get it on switch or ps4 , I love having the availability of playing it anywhere
@@agardo_8582 regular ps4 or pro? If you have a regular ps4 or slim I'd recommend the switch version.
I played this on PS4 and it's forever in my memory, especially the music. It was such an amazing experience of a game.
Thanks for the review.
Cheers
Been waiting for this one since I got my switch! This game is in my top three, and it got me back into gaming along with the Witcher 3. Incredible game. The writing, music and gameplay are all top shelf. Was worried it would be more overpriced, but that’s very fair. I’m trying to work through Nier Replicant on PS4 now but will definitely double-dip on this during a sale as I haven’t played it since 2016.
Why are you buying a game you already have?
I'm just happy to hear that the Switch port runs well and that Switch players will be able to enjoy this fantastic game.
To anyone that has not played this game. Please PLEASE play this game.
I had no clue that this series had bullethell and shmup elements to it. It looks incredible. I think I may finally try this out.
Great review Mark, I’ve played it through multiple times on PS4 and thanks to your review I’m going to be playing it again on Switch!
Haha it’s fantastic I had no idea before this play through how good. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt it gets more interesting when you play as the other characters too.
Pre ordered the physical copy today! Was looking forward to see your review and hyped to play this on switch!
One of my absolute best games of all time. Hoping that square would also port Nier Replicant on the Switch
I'm buying on switch for 2 reasons. Portability and to show them that there is a demand for nier replicant on the switch.
Yeah the Switch has nothing
@@knuclear200x pls god shut up lmao
Yes please , that is my hope too.
@@knuclear200x what does that even mean
The small lore story about the weapons is why I love drakengaard and this series. Thanks for this review!
Yeah - it really is cool! Mark
Everything about this game is amazing. I have the OST on my playlist. So good, and I can’t wait to play it again on Switch.
Love how you included different prices for a bunch of regions, that's an effort that i appreciate
I really don't get why people complain about ports on the switch isn't that what the consoles for games you've always wanted to play on the go?
IKR
Aye!
@@letterm6656 >implying on-the-go will wear out
lmao, there’s a reason the Switch is selling legendarily while Sony is being left in the dust.
On the go ALONE is a great reason for anyone who’s not a teen.
Omfg the pun at the start 🤣 so glad you put out a review for this one, can't wait to pick it up!
I was actually blown away by the soundtrack on this one. Not sure why I wasn't expecting much, but wow did it exceed my expectations!
One can only hope they port over Replicant eventually
Yeah the Switch has nothing
@@lankyGigantic Shouldn't be hard seeing Automata on Switch
@@knuclear200x you're nothing
@@knuclear200x Your trolling is beyond cringe.
I plat'd this on my PS4, and will happily double tip on the Switch. One of the most influential games in my life, and a such impressive port at that, deserves my recognition.
Is there enough RAM?!?!?!?!? Dead. We can officially close the channel now. The puns simply can't get any better than this lol
Hahahah! Cheers brother! Mark
So I'M gonna get this one as soon as it's out
Absolutely do it. Halfway done with route C so far and it's incredible.
@@tijmenteering9877 You are not ready for the grand finale.
…”enough RAM”… I see what you did there 😂
Play, 4 or so times, for the game. Stay for the OST. Such an experience, one of my favorite games.
So glad the port runs really well, can't wait to play it.
Nier: Automata brought me through the toughest year of my life, 2017
I played the first Nier right when covid hit and everyone had to isolate.
I will never forget the (Theater Lady) boss fight in this game. It is a piece of art and one of my best gaming moments ever.
Didn't even think it was possible to do this on Switch. Nice they didn't go the cloud version route.
GLORY TO MANKIND!
My favorite review channel reviewing my favorite game? I waited for this video for half a year!
Incredible gaming experience, do not miss this!
Sigma are you ready for round 2??? Mmx health filling bgm.
Loved this game on ps4.
Tempted to get it, just to play it handheld.
This game has so many quirky Easter eggs. especially with the endings.
You can blow up the Space station by self destructing.
Or 2B can off herself if you remove her personality RAM module in the inventory
"So, you have never played Nier and are interested in playing this port? Let me just spoil a bunch of stuff in the first two minutes"
Cheers Daniel mate! Mark
Automata is easily Platinum's best game, even if Taro is the mastermind behind the world and story.
Electric sheep? Enough RAM? The puns are my fav part of these videos hands down!!!
Hahaha - well that’s both pleasing AND upsetting in equal measure. Mark
I want to play this game big time . That is amazing it’s coming to switch along side the other big titles we have seen so far.
That "RAM" joke at the beginning was awful but also good at the same time.
Keep em coming
LOL thank you sir! Mark
@@Sabre_Wulf1 you rock
@@jaredponder4149 correct. The first time I got to the “true” end, I was not connected to the WiFi and couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t able to complete the game. I had to look it up, and I’m doing so, spoiled the impact of the true ending for myself. I was still impacted by it, but I’d prefer if everyone get to experience it without having it spoiled.
Preordered the physical edition with the T-shirt. Cannot wait!!
I recommend everyone to play it.... Amazing game.. beautiful music...
I've wanted to grab this on PC, but with working 10 hours a day on a PC getting into any games has been tricky lately. So my switch has been getting quite the workout, love that this has been ported and coming out on my birthday seems like a sign!
Steam deck
Just to explain how NieR Automata works (as I've seen so many people think the game is over well before it isn't)
First 'playthrough' with 2B is about 16hrs then some end credits play.
Then you replay that same story as a different character condensed into about 6hrs but there's alot of differences from that character's point of view and then the game 'ends' again and some credits roll.
Then there's a 3rd 'playthrough' that continues the story from the point where the first two END (not the start) that lead to the true ending (total about 25-30hrs)
PLEASE don't think the game is over after the first run with 2B, you're literally missing more than half of the game & story 👍🏻
Do these “Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” Mark, y u so Cultured? 🤖
We do enjoy a good bit of culture! Mark
EDIT. Thankfully its right after the beginning bit, so took rougly 40 mins to unlock and use the dlc skins (including the ones i bought the game for, 2P)
Immediately best legit version of the game (that isn't the pc version that can mod 2p in with nexusmods right from the start)
You’ll need to reach a certain part to unlock it I believe and I wasn’t allowed to show that. Mark
Enjoyed the video. This has become far and away my preferred channel for Switch gaming. Thanks again.
barely 30fps lmao
More info about the endings: There are five main story line endings, where the first two aren't real endings but more like an important story point midgame. You get different endings depending on one choice in the end but to see the true ending you have to play through both. Every other ending is more or less a joke and not canon.
For the visuals I'm relly impressed from the switch. NA doesn't look that good on other platforms as well tbh. But I would give the audio a definite 20 out of 20. It's just perfect.
Great video, you said nothing wrong about the story ;)
Performance (after struggling on PC) was my main gripe. Now, I just went and ordered my copy. Thanks!
Great review. It was helpful to catchup on the story line of the previous games. I’ve often seen this character appear in TH-cam videos but taken the interest till I owned a Switch. I’m a fan of action games like the Witcher and the reference to it won me over. Thanks for a great detailed review
Audio should be 20 imo. The soundtrack was just heavenly and I have not played any game yet that could top that.
One of my favorite games ever! Played it on PS4/Xbox and now can’t wait for the switch version! Great review!!
Bought on PS4 on a whim. Loved it. 100% buying on Switch so people can look at me weird while I cry in public.
8:00 I can tell the way Astral Chain walking feels like that as well
Finished this on gamepass and I must say its one of the greatest rpgs that I played. Gameplay soundtrack and especially the story. One of the best!
Not as bad as Blight Town from the original release of Dark Souls on PC lol
Great review on an even better game.
One little note though: It is not really open world. Most people confuse the term "Open world" with "open areas". This game has a classic zone based structure with multiple bordered and separated areas. Imagine Ocarina of Time on a larger scale.
Game is a masterpiece nonetheless.
gets home from a long day of school and see a new switchup upload
bliss
That Electric Sheep/RAM pun was simultaneously a huge stretch, painful, and niche. Nicely done.
Possibly the best review intro i've heard you do. Philip K. Dick would be proud. Looking forward to this game though! In the same boat, never played before so excited to go in knowing very little. Let's hope it lives up to the hype!

I took the plunge and used the 10% off code on your website to get this game after watching this review. So I feel a winner on two fronts - saving money through SwitchUp and being introduced to a fantastic new game which I'm loving. Thank you!
