  • Harley Davidson Road Glide vs Street Glide: I've owned both, which is better? I have owned 3‪@harleydavidson‬Electra Glides/Street Glides, and 3 Road Glides, and I have had ultras, specials, and limiteds. Which one is my favorite? The answer? You'll have to see!

I've owned 3 batwings over the years. Just recently bought a 22 cvo road glide limited. Honestly I truly believe if my eyes were closed I don't think I'd really notice much difference. I know people say they feel like they have more room on the road glide but that's not the case. Same bike where you sit. I love both and don't think you can go wrong with either. At the end of the day please yourself. You're the one making the payments so it has to make you happy.

I like when I turn the bars the headlight moves with the bars.

If you were going anywhere over 20 mph, probably 15 actually, if you turn the handlebars enough for the light to turn you have fucked up. At highway speeds I bet nobody moves their handlebars more than 5°, which means you won't perceive your headlight moving.

On a Street Glide, you feel the road in your arms and shoulders, on a Road Glide you feel it in your seat. The fairing transfers the wind and road feel to the chassis or frame.

I used to be one of those “street glides are better” guys. But since I started working at a Harley dealership, I re-discovered the reason I started riding. Motorcycles are fun! Don’t care what it looks like. I just enjoy the freedom they all represent! Love your videos brother, keep them coming!

My first batwing was an 85 Electra-Glide. I owned that bike for 17 years and accumulated upwards of 250k miles. I got away from Harley for a few years but when I came back in 2010 it was to a Street Glide. When the new shark nose came out in 2015 I took a test ride. I bought the shark and have had 2 more since, lol. I'm on a 2019 Road Glide now and will probably stick with it until I hang it up. All that to say that I've owned both and loved them but since riding the shark I've never looked back. The only issue I had with low speed maneuvering was on some 10 mph switchback turns. I turned the bars at the first one and the fairing didn't turn. It rattled me for a fraction of a second until I reminded myself this bike didn't do that. To each his own.

One of the advantages of the batwing I never see mentioned is that you can point the headlight without turning the whole bike. Maybe its just me, but I have found that to be a nice convenience when picking a campsite and setting up after dark, or helping wrench on a buddies bike in a parking lot. No need to get off the bike w/ a flashlight or turn the whole thing to light up an area.

Those are actually super valid points. Thank you very much. I've been debating on going with a batwing when I purchase my next bike. With the weather that can hit upstate New York, that just might be a better option for me. I really appreciate your insight on this topic. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for the info. I used to ride with the batwing for years but after a near accident I changed over to a 2021 Road King that really improved my visibility. I thought I would miss the audio system but using my cell phone and bluetooth I am happy with the sound. Guess that is why Harley has so many different models to fit everyone's needs.

I rode an Electra Glide for 12 years and just this year I traded for a Road glide. In my experience I prefer the road glide. It just seems lighter. The steering is lighter the bike seems more nimble. Just my opinion but I wished I had kept the Electra Glide too.

I’ve owned both. Had an 03 Road Glide for fifteen years. Bought a Street Glide standard in eighteen. And a Street Glide Special in twenty one. The Road Glide was more stable in cross wind. But I like the looks of the Street Glide. Yes I’m a slave to fashion, enjoy your video’s.

Appreciate the insight as I've never ridden either bike. Going off looks alone, I prefer the batwing over the sharknose. I kinda feel like these bikes are the F-150's of the H-D world. Everyone seems to have one. You mentioned the Road King so I'd also appreciate any insight you have on that bike. I feel like I could really get behind the Special. Currently ride a '17 Fat Boy S.

This was so well done. Both are such great bikes. I bought the Street Glide as my first Harley and 5 years later have 28K miles on it. I chose it because I simply loved the dash a lot better and the Road Glide just seemed far away. It was a "looks" thing. Having now ridden it a bunch, the weather / rain implications are real. I'll stay SG.....but for an upcoming trip out of state I did rent a RG just to experience the other option. Great work Mr. Monkey

Excellent video for someone that’s never owned either one of these bosses. I’ve got a 2000 1200C that I love to sprint around on and have promised myself I wouldn’t upgrade to an adult scoot until I retire. This was an exceptional video with content and information that really matters to the rider. Heck, I never even thought about “effects of weather” as a consideration between the two. Keep up the great work!

  • @jeremyaspen5610
    @jeremyaspen5610 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Very correct. If you like wind in the face but not on the chest, then road glide it is. If you like protection from the weather, then batwing is perfect. I own both, along with a road king, and i can say living up north i get more protection on the king with a 21" windscreen and soft lowers over the glide.

I loved the batwing fairing for the wind protection like you mentioned. I haven’t ridden the road glide much yet due to the temps and rain up here in Vancouver. I will say I did notice an improvement in stability on the highway in the wind just like you mentioned. Anyways thx again for the video and I hope to run into you at Sturgis this year. Good video, finally someone said " buy the one you like". I loved the pre rushmore road glides, and hated the batwing. Fell in love with the new style, and got a 2014 Limited. 2015/2016 rode a couple road glides and other than stereo being further away and low speed weight was different. Both bikes are made to go the distance.

Shouting from Los Angeles to all fellow riders. You made perfectly valid points about these 2 different touring bikes. I own the 2020 Police Electra Glide and also 2022 Road Glide Limited. They both are the same family touring bikes and each bike has unique characteristics as you mentioned. I enjoy riding both bikes alternating whenever I want to. The main reason why I purchased RGL was to help my shoulder ergonomically after had my right shoulder surgery done last year [stock handlebar helps relax my shoulders when I am riding], I regret I didn't buy the 2018 CVO Road Glide Gunship Grey and I jumped on the 2022 RGL with Gunship Grey color 😍

Last year I picked up a gorgeous , extremely low mileage 2010 FLHTK for my first full bagger. Been riding Harleys since 1984 and biggest bikes before the Limited were Road Kings. Always thought the weight of a full dresser would make it harder to ride but after my test ride I came back and told my wife that it was the easiest bike I’d ever ridden. I’m 6’2” and 220 lbs and the comfort and balance of the FLHTK just impressed the Hell out of me. Wish I’d bought one long ago. Love the bay wing so far. Thanks for the great video.

I'm a batwing guy forever. Road Glide might be tempting with a light kit on the forks.
The old Tour Glide was a mistake. They were UGLY. That is one of the reasons I'm not fond of the sharknose fairing. If you have never seen a Tour Glide, the Road Glide would probably be okay.

I've only had a batwing since 2001. Currently have the 2022 Ultra Apex. Most of the miles are on the interstate at 80mph (or better). Unless you practice your slow speed drills regularly you will be a duck walker at campgrounds with a fully loaded bike. And yes everyone will laugh at you.
For me the shark nose feels like I'm sitting in the rear seat. The handling is way better at walking speed but at speed you feel the wind constantly

Very interesting my comparison is between the CVO Street Glide and the Road King, your right at low speed the Street Glide feels like it has a flat tire when you get off the Road King - but, at 75mph you want to be on the Street Glide. I run the Road King without a windshield

i own a 2014 ultra limited and a 2022 road glide standard i ride the road glide more but on hot days i like the limited because of the wet heads the biggest wind difference is when a semi is passes head on the road glide dont move with the limited you better be holding on to the bars

I had an 01 ultra classic. Great bike. Now have a 22 road glide special.
One of the biggest differences I noticed was how they behave in a cross wind.
I could almost sail my electraglide into the cross wind and it didn’t effect me as much as it does on my road glide, which a cross wind sort of pushes the whole bike.

  • @waydegardner7373
    @waydegardner7373 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I chose the RG for two reasons. First, the reach on a RG is a little further out making it more comfortable for my riding position. Secondly, the RG having the fairing on the frame vs the forks makes it feel (to me) a lot more steady down the blacktop. I also think I got more wind protection from the RG. That said, sold the RG, bought a ‘21 BMW R18 C for cruising and now picking up a ‘17 Ultra Limited on Tuesday for the long hauls.

Great video. I went with a RGS because up here in the great white north the SG are still more popular and really I wanted a SG up until 2 years ago but the shark nose grew on me and I got sick and tired of seing batwings on every street corner around here. For the wind thing you are right it would never be a deal breaker for me, I only ever felt a slight turbulence following a bus with a batwing. I do like the lighter steering feel of the shark nose tho.

Agree with you - they are both great. In essence I think it's more about preference. Do you want the fairing to move when you turn or not. I traded my VROD for a Road Glide and that was my determining factor. And for me, I prefer the look of the road glide as well so that's what I bought and I love it. Thanks for the details

Having had both in the stable for some time, ex wife had a Rushmore RG, the biggest difference to me was that the RG felt more roomy than the SG as the cockpit is further away from the rider using the same seat. The SG has the cockpit much closer.
I like the SG experience. And I felt like the RG fairing was heavier than the SG, just subjective impression. Made u turns different as I felt like the RG fairing pulls down to the ground. I never liked to ride the RG.
As you said, personal preference is the final answer.

Both good bikes. Also ridden both. Went with a Streetglide. Fairing being closer was a big reason (I'm 5'8). Many prior years on fixed fairing sportbikes. Being able to touch the screen easily when you couldn't be bothered toggling on hand controls saves reach. I also prefer the look. Classic Harley with a batwing. More compact and no big hole between forks and fairing. But I will say Roadglide fairing storage wins hands down. 2 big cubbyholes vs 1 that can't even hold a modern sized smartphone. Ride and enjoy what you have. 👍

Well done video I agree there’s not much difference between them as I ride a road glide and my wife rides, a street glide it’s all about what you want.

I’ve been on 2 trips with the Road Glide. Loved it. Cuts thru the wind. I thought it had a feeling of aerodynamics that was cool. And it got a .5g/fill up better than the Bat Wings that were on the trips. I kept track each fill up and asked the guys what they put in. 2 trips, 2 different years, same results. Still, I got a SGS and love it. Much better protection. Handling is close between the two. Like you said, personal preference. I loved them both.

Great comparison video. I've been looking at both of these bikes, and I've been leaning towards the Street Glide. And hey, from one guy to another, you've got an awesome garage.
    🙂👍

Have both - love both. Put 110K miles on my '07 SG. Always rolled my eyes when guys would mention the wind beating them up on a batwing, as I never really noticed that. My SG has been from WI to WA and back 5 times, been caught in the god-awful winds a couple times (Sturgis to Billings). Bought a '17 RG. It was the choice between a newer bike with the new (at the time) M8 engine, or dumping a bunch of money into completely overhauling the SG to keep it as my "forever bike". Kept the SG and put a little money into keeping it in great condition, and went with the RG (wasn't giving away my SG, didn't want just a newer version of the same bike). Haven't noticed the big difference you mentioned with the downpour. 14" Klockwerks sport on the RG, and I get out of the heavy rain just as well as I do on the SG - but maybe it's the combo of the windscreen and that I'm 6'3" leaning closer to the inner fairing...
