You are the first person who actually said that they get red acne marks even if they don’t pop pimples! I have the same issue. It doesn’t matter if I pop a pimple or let it go away on its own, it’s gonna leave a red mark that will take months or years to go away. It’s so annoying hearing everywhere that “don’t pop pimples and you’ll be fine”, “you have pigmentation because you pop pimples just stop it already”. Like no man my skin doesn’t work that way.

I'm really glad you mentioned this because no one talks about the huge impact out mental states have on our bodies and inflammation. I had very mild acne through my teen years. My dad passed away at the start of this year and I've been having the worst hormonal acne of my life. I was really struggling with repressed emotions and anger at all the people who abandoned me. I'm on birth control, and managing stress through the gym and meditation ❤️ after 6 months its starting to clear up.

It has been a journey! And I'm still on my way but I want to share because I've never felt better and I hope something you hear in this video will help you too (if you're looking for help). Thanks for the support on my previous video about how to cover acne and for mentioning your interest in my new skincare routine. Here it is!
ALSO, **All products shown in this video aren't sponsored** (I forgot to mention that in the video)
***Note: there is a mistake-> isopropanol is the same thing as isopropyl alcohol and ‘isopropanol’ was not meant to be on the ‘good list’. It’s also known as rubbing alcohol and can be irritating. Also I circled 'cetearyl alcohol' on the clarifying mask ingredients but it shouldn't be because it's a fatty alcohol (I was editing until really late at night and my brain stopped working 😅)

Skin care products EXPIRE! This is a great point Taylor, one in which most people don't realize. Like Drunk Elephant Vitamin C Serum is only 6 months of usage so don't buy the big bottle if you won't use that much within 6 months.

rather than expire, it'd be more accurate to say that their effects become greatly reduced.

I've spent a lot, a lot of money trying to become acne free. I am 31 now, my hormones are finally normalised but my skin - not. This video literally gave me much more information than hundreds of medical and scince articles about acne. After watching the video I ran to check all my tones of cosmetic and only a few bottles left, so bad they are!!! You buy things for acne and they make it worse. The best thing is that I realized why my almost okay skin recantly became so bad again - alcohol, bad alcohol, especialy my drying lotion from Walgreens, damn I'm mad... My diet is pretty strict, no lactose (if yes - with lactase pill), very limited glucose and no gluten - still bad skin. Now I see why. I can say on all girls' behalf: thank you for your help, Taylor! You're amazing! I'll make an update in a few months. I hope to look better without makeup soon.

There’s a lot of misinformation about “fungal acne” - it’s actually a form of folliculitis.
It’s an acneiform condition (i.e. it looks like acne) but it’s not *actually* a type of acne.
    Look up Pityrosporum/Malassezia folliculitis.
Also that study you mentioned comparing Bakuchiol to Retinol:
The test group of bakuchiol users were applying it twice a day, whereas the retinol group were only applying once per day.
So you’d really need to use double the amount of bakuchiol to see results close to a retinol product (which you can do as bakuchiol is less irritating).

I’ve tried a portion of this recommended routine for three months - only some products since some of the ingredients you used are not supposed to be used together.
This routine really flurred up my acne. Notice that all these products have active exfoliating ingredients, a skincare specialist informed me it was way too much, exfoliants should be used once or twice a week to let the skin breath in between.
Also, salicylic acid should be used only on acne and not the entire face.
Im glad it worked for you but viewers should be wary if this is right for their skin. I stopped with the routine a few days ago and my skin is already doing so much better.
Anyways thanks for the information, as someone who suffers from acne it’s always appreciated when more info and attempts to helped are presented!

It’s used as an emollient, texture enhancer, foam stabilizer, and carrying agent for other ingredients.

So happy to hear that ypur fight against your acne is finally getting good results. I had pretty bad acne when I was a teenager up to my early twenties. I'm in my early thirties now and I still get spots and angry marks after them, but it's a relief not to have the never ending spots, especially the cystic ones. It feels great when the skin actually has time to heal.
Something I would like to say though about bakuchiol, that is rather new on the market, is that we might need to be critical to the claims that companies make about "natural" skin care products - there are interesting discussions of what "natural" actually means, and "natural" vs. synthetic - that doesn't have much scientific research, yet. Bakuchiol is one of them.
There are several skincare scientists (e.g Michelle Wong who has PhD in Chemistry and also Skinchemy) that make attempts at educating people by debunking "myths" that we have grown up with or that companies try to convince us about. That's not to say that bakuchiol doesn't work, but the lack of scientific research means that we can't be 100% certain of the effects of the ingredient. That also says something about companies marketing tactics.
Just want to put it out there.

I noticed that if I eat a lot of sweets and/or dairy products my skin will react badly within 1-3 days. For example if I eat pizza with dairy cheese there's a 90% chance that the next day I will get at least one pimple. Similarly with sweets - if I overeat sugary stuff for more than 2 days, my skin will go red and produce lots of pimples. When I do get pimples my fave thing to use is tamanu oil to reduce inflammatiion and heal the scar (it takes some consistency, but tamanu oil helped me 100% heal very red and raised scars - it just takes a couple of months, or about a year of consistent use) :)

Im not canadian but i come from the north of sweden (so similar climate-ish), and ill give you some unsolicited advice: aply your skincare, foundation etc atleast 30 min before you leave the house.
In summer it lets spf adhere better to the skin for better protection, and for us ice-dwellers, in winter it lets the water evaporate, the product to sink in, and reduces the risk of micro frostbites (that will show up as dry, sensitive, red, flaky skin).

I've been also living with acne most my life (33 now). Diet has helped a lot. My acne is hormonal. My body produces high testosterone. So I really have to watch my sugar intake. If I really try hard on my diet, I can get my acne to a negligible amount to almost none. It's hard to eliminate added sugar completely. Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic acid has never worked for me. Only strong anti inflammatories and antibiotics have ever cleared my skin completely. The only thing externally that had worked to some degree for me was vitamin C serums. Oh and the glam glow mud mask, I really like that mask.

Omg Taylor, I could’ve sworn I recommended Paula’s Choice products to you a few months or so ago when you asked for Recs on Instagram and I am SO HAPPY it’s working for you! My mind was BLOWN when I discovered chemical exfoliants and the differences and benefits of bha and aha’s!! I feel like I had the same exact struggles. The hormonal acne was REAL and nothing helped until I educated myself on skincare and made it a hobby. Just a year later and my skin is transformed completely from what it used to be. I still get a pimple here and there and I do scar just bc my skin is sensitive like that but it’s worlds different vs. before. SO happy to see others taking the time to learn about their skin, it’s definitely a form of self-love and self-care and it’s so underrated!!
I ALSO would HIGHLY recommend (if you haven’t already) to double cleanse! Using an oil based cleanser first then following with a gentle face wash made such a huge difference in how my skin would retain moisture.
Anyone struggling with acne please remove your makeup before bed and NEVER USE FACE WIPES 🤢😂😂

I can relate to this so much, acne is a completely normal phenomenon. Some people get it, some don’t. Only with trail and error can we find the root cause behind it, but for those who are still struggling (including myself) need to let go, life is too short for worries and stress, it’s too short for taking people’s remarks to the heart. Okay so I watched your video back at the end of 2022 and THANK YOU SO SO SO SO MUCH!
Lord you saved my 6 years of damaged skins! I was able to understand the stuff for the first time and investigated potential product options properly. I tried to buy as many 1:1 products as were mentioned in the video but otherwise I made sure to check the ingredient list thoroughly. And really, everything I bought on that day has tuned down my acne to almost non existent now. It's really a miracle to not have more zits for like 4 months straight! Usually whenever I tried stuff, I would have some massive breakout or just slow encroachment of pimples again but nothing of that sort since this last product overall.
Once again, thank you very much for saving my skin! You did what a practiced dermatologist couldn't do with medication!
    Products that i used:
    1. Paula (dun remember the full name but it's mentioned in the video)
    2. Minimalist 3% PHA Alcohol free Toner
    3. The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide and 1% zinc
    4. Minimalist 10% Vitamin B5 gel
Sadly salicylic acid seems to be counterproductive on my face. Tea tree is also no good. The face i use is called Bioderma Sebium Gel Moussant. Maybe if someone else who hasn't had luck with salicylic acid based face washes can give this one a shot too.

Tip for making sure you don’t use expired products, write the date you opened it in permanent marker on it somewhere or make a little list and keep it in your vanity/bathroom or maybe in Notes on your phone and set reminders to check your list and go through your products. It’s also helpful to see if you really use enough of a product before it expires and if it’s cost effective for your budget.

essential oils are the bane of my existence! They are in so many products marketed as 'clean' but they irritate the heck out my skin :(

For adult skin a retinol can be better as it will also prevent wrinkles, and benzoyl peroxide can be very drying. (Just got to the bakuchiol part, I might have to try that one!)
Glycolic acid can also work for exfoliating so can also help fading marks :)
Also ceramides (found naturally in the skin too) are really nice and gentle for moisturising

Salicylic acid alone has done wonders for my skin all my life. I notice when I use a face wash that doesn’t include it that I start breaking out mostly around my chin.

  • @ZDMarriott

A helpful note for anyone with very dry or sensitive skin (like me!) who can't use benzoyl or salicylic because they cause rashes and irritation: tranexamic acid may be a game-changer for you. It was for me. It's still new, but you can get it in NIACID, which is a clear serum with a bunch of niacinamide in it (but you can't get shipment to a lot of locations right now due to Covid - it's manufactured in Korea) or The Inkey List's Tranexamic Mask, which you can buy from Cult Beauty. Although that last one calls itself a mask, I just use it as a serum too, once a day, and apply moisturiser over it. This stuff has reduced the frequency and severity of my breakouts by about 80% but without horrible skin reactions (it's not a peeling acid). If it has tranexamic acid in it, I buy it. I look forward to when it's become a little more common and easier to get my hands on.

I started having my acne around 20-21 yrs old I didn't know why I started having it. I thought is was hormones but blood tests said they are all ok and working well. Only lately I figured out from another video of yours (talking about acupuncture I think. You showed a picture of a face showing each area has different reason) it was due to my allergy because most of them are on the cheeks. So I'm working on it but I can't make my allergy goes since it is related to weather and air. Thank you so much for informing us about such things and for sharing.🥰

Back after doing benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid (I didn’t buy the exact products she recommended just found similar ingredients) back to try more products :) Whhhhhaaaattt?? My skin feels completely different! I’m still on a mission to clear things up, but I’m doing much better thanks to you tay! I think we also need to normalize real skin too. Everyone gets spots now and then. Thanks so much for making this video. it has helped me so much! It’s so difficult to know what actually works when everyone is shoving their products in your face on social media. Thanks for being honest and genuinely trying to help ❤️ you’re a skin hero!

There's definitely a reason to why I came across this video on TH-cam: th-cam.com/users/Jyovis of Jyovis Ayurveda and I was very happy to see the results. I even followed few of the tips explained and it actually worked. Then I finally decided to contact on ...... (+919987825758) to cure my Problem from the root cause. The team really helped me a lot. Thank you Jyovis!

Hey, I feel like you might be a bit misinformed about a couple of things. For example, if a product is working for you, you shouldn’t stop using it just because it has ‘bad ingredients’. Just because it contains alcohol doesn’t mean it’s inherently bad because the specialists who formulate it know how to balance it with other products (James Welsh has a video on this issue along with the fragrance thing). Labmuffinbeauty (PhD in chemistry) and a couple other dermatologists here on youtube say that you can’t determine if a product is good or bad just by the ingredients list.
Also ‘Fungal acne’ does not really exist.
With all that said, I’m glad you found things that work for you, your skin is absolutely glowing ❤️

      @rosar.4293 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

What do you mean fungal acne doesn’t “really exist”? It’s not really a form of acne, people just call it that because the correct term is a bit length: Malassezia folliculitis. I treated my own “fungal acne” with a topical cream. So yes, it does exist.

    • @wafaamri7772
      @wafaamri7772 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@rosar.4293 Yes, that’s what I meant, just poor wording on my part. The term was being thrown around way too much on TH-cam and everyone started self-diagnosing with it and all the dermatologists I follow were really frustrated by it lol

Isopropyl Alcohol is also known as rubbing alcohol that is used in skincare and cosmetic products to help improve the application and absorption of the other ingredients in your product. Alcohols in skincare have been given a bad reputation, mostly due to the association between alcohol-containing toners and dryness.
The Mario Bedescu Drying Lotion does wonders. The other ingredients in it actually soothe and treat the active breakouts. The Isopropyl Alcohol helps them absorb better.

I don't know if you know this or not ... the ordinary niacinamide and vitamin c together should be avoided...as far as i know the original site of the ordinary has also awarn their users to use niacinamide with any products that contains vitamin c ...so if you wanna use those two healing ingredients at least use them in separate ways ...like one in ur morning routine and one at ur night routine ... i really liked this video ...all what ahe said is right and really helps to deal with skin problems...i can guarantee that ...i just wanted to point out this information so that the full right info will be delivered without bad causes to anybody

thank you! i experience the same exact acne problems as you, and I had always gotten so many compliments on my "perfect" skin up until I turned 28 and got hormonal acne due to autoimmune issues. I'm super into skincare but have had issues regarding my acne despite diet changes, medication changes, etc. so i really appreciate these recommendations! our skin is very similar so i am hopeful. I was using the Inky List products, and while they are FANTASTIC and super affordable (but super small), I think I need to branch out for certain products.

One of my favorite products for hyperpigmentation and acne scars is Goodal Green Tangerine Vita C dark spot serum, it has a lot of the ingredients you just mention (vit c and Niacinamide) plus is fragrance free. Totally recommend it! Love this video, I will definitely add bakuchiol to my rutine, it was an amazing suggestion

Even though it's her skin..seeing it finally clear up makes me feel good as well....dunno if it's because I've been watching Taylor's videos for a very long time....it did upset me everytime she pointed out her skin is not getting any better....because I used to have severe acne as well...i still get it from time to time but gratefully I don't have really bad acne anymore. Seeing her skin finally clear up gives of a GREAT relief feeling...if that made sense. I'm so happy your skin is finally getting much better and is making you feel happier Taylor. Really am happy for you ^^ ❤️
