  • 2022 Tesla Model Y Rebuild Process. Originally this was intended to be a donor vehicle for a custom project but the accident damage was light enough it made more sense to put it back on the road.
    This is a 4680 Model Y with the mega castings.

    Great video. I was an auto mechanic in a prior life and appreciate seeing how things have changed and how modular Tesla is building their vehicles!

    Rebuilding a model y tomorrow so this definitely helped! You noted that we don’t like long videos… actually long views do really well and get a shit ton of views. 1-2 long are great.

      Hmm, maybe ill try that long format! Hope everything goes well with the model Y rebuild

    Very Impressive. I look forward to the next one. Perhaps you could give us an idea of how long you have to wait for the different parts needed in that video.

      So far, most parts took just over a week to get. One crash can was on backorder with no date given, so we had to source it. Longest I've waited is about 3 weeks, but that was for some model 3 stuff...

      Thank you @519Kustomz! It is really great to see third-party expertise for these cars and their new technology.

    I love watching this stuff! I really like to see how Teslas are built. Question - once you are done I assume this car has a salvage title, so how do you go about recertifying it so Tesla will allow it to Supercharge?

    • @519Kustomz
      @519Kustomz  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For tesla to allow it back on the supercharger network they have to do a salvage vehicle high voltage inspection at the dealership. I've heard they even remove the battery to inspect it, but that seems very unnecessary. But I think some thorough visual, and isolation inspections should be enough. The car monitors the high voltage stuff very well.

    It was a front end collision and the castings weren't damaged ? Really neat how they design the front to be a crush zone.

    • @519Kustomz

      Yeah the casting held up excellent. I have had one other involved in a front end crash that did crack and snap a piece off, but overall the impact zone works well.

      @@519Kustomz Are you going to weld the casting on the other one ?
      Great videos. I'd love to see what you do with the other one.

      I have a few videos of that other one. I did weld the cast front end and stripped out the 4680 battery right down to the individual cells. Motors kept for another custom project and the rest was sold off. The videos are here on my channel somewhere

    Where do you buy the pieces? Like headlights

    • @519Kustomz
      @519Kustomz  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most parts are directly from tesla. Some from good used sources, but tesla pricing is pretty good for most items.
