    Well done! Very helpful information. A couple more details would've been nice though: How big is your cleaning area making you refill the station even twice a week? How often do you have to clean the brush/filter in the station? Do you see any wear on the station since the motor brush inside might be a bit sensible?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Good question!
      2,600 square feet home, though with furniture, blocked zones, etc. it ends up being around 1,600 sq. ft. of cleaned area.
      I clean the brush / filter around once a month.
      No noticeable wear on the station brush or any other parts.

    IF you have uneven tiles like my house it does not work so good, I have the S7 and notice the pads dont hit the tiles even and skips places. I have a dreamtech w10 with the rotating bushes to do the main washing and that works great on uneven tiles just fyi. Now if they can just make a rotating mop pad that can lift up when on carpet that would be awesome.

    Great video with lots of interesting real world info. I'm planning to get one and have been watching the various reviews. Yours is the only one I've seen that shows rinsing filters and the rest of the maintenance.
    BTW, when you say, "it can't be understated," your description tells me that you mean "can't be overstated." For example, if I said, "How much did I like it? It can't be overstated," I'm saying, "I loved it and no superlatives would be too over the top to describe how much I loved it!" On the other hand, something so bad that it can't be understated would be truly bad.

    How does this compare to the iRobot j7+ combo? How does it compare to using the iRobot S9 and Braava m6 bundle together?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're still finalizing our tests for the Combo J7+.
      However, based on what we've seen thus far I'd say Roborock is better than the j7+ Combo. If for the only reason that it includes a mop that cleans itself. That feature cannot be overstated.
      I'd also prefer the S7 MaxV over Roomba S9+ / Braava M6 bundle. Same basic thing...mop that cleans itself is a feature Roomba doesn't have.
      In terms of quality, navigation, cleaning performance, mopping performance, etc. all of these models are about the same.

    Hi. Looked at your video and found it very informative. I was wondering if you recommend some must-have accessories for the Maxv ultra for someone who is going to use it for the first time? Such as the liquid or drying module etc.? I am reading mixed reviews about whether or not to buy these accessories so thought of asking the expert 😀

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, we didn't test the drying module or the cleaning liquid.
      I've tested other cleaning liquids for the mops and generally been happy with them. But at the same time, I am still exceedingly pleased with the S7 MaxV Ultra with just water. I don't think the cleaning liquid is necessary.
      The drying module, even having not tested it yet, is one I would probably go ahead and buy. Especially if you live in a humidity climate. If those pads don't dry pretty quick they can get crusty, smelly, etc.

    I got my S7 and Ultra station few days ago. I'm worried about one thing that noone in the review mentions. Mop, that is cleaned by the station is quite soaked and air dryes. It's 16 hours since I last used the mop feature and the mop is still little bit wet (humidity is lover in my home). It takes quite long to dry and I worry that with daily use, the mop would never dry. What is your experience with this after 100 days. Can the mop get mold?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I'm probably the worst person to ask. I live in Phoenix, Arizona. Basically zero humidity and it's hot all the time. So at least in my case I haven't had any issues at all with the mop not air drying.
      However, I could see how in a more humid environment that's problematic.

    • @rxappdev
      @rxappdev 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @0tjsnake0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rxappdev That seems interesting. I've only seen white version of the dryer module. So hopefully there will be black also. It seems to be made, that it blows mildly varm air, should be silent and work for 2 to 4 hours after docking (depending on your setting). My Roborock is basically next to my work station so that silent part is something I'm wondering how well will that be made. From one video I've seen, it can be turned on by hand or setup that it activates when the robot docks (assuming only after run where there is mopping involved). The silent part could be solved easily with third option and that is - activate it at specified hour if there were mopping in that day. That way, I could setup some night hour making sure, that mop is always dry the next day. But I don't think that that option will be there. My environment tends to be drier. The mop is completelly soaked after washing. I measured about 20 hours of drying time just by air.

Home is 2300 sqf, 3 floors, mostly hardwood and a bit of tile/laminate in the basement. Cats visiting occasionally and I have long hair that tends to clog the regular vacuum. Ideally, I’d like a robot with no bags for the dust. Does that exist? Is it worth waiting for next year’s models?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All of the good self-empty bases use bags. So that request just isn't viable.
      As far as your other needs, the Roborock S7 MaxV is a great option that has what you're looking for.
      -Easy covers that 2,300 sq. ft.
      -Multi-floor mapping will smart map all 3 of your floods
      -Mop is among the best available
      -It's not perfect at long hair / cat hair, but it's as good as any
      I wouldn't wait for next year's models. I think it may be a couple of years at least before we see another major update as far as features / bleeding edge tech go.

    • @pamcadd8658

      Doris, the dust and debris that the vacuum picks up has to go somewhere. You can empty the vac's bin every time it runs, or it can empty itself into a bigger bag that you change every month or two (depending, of course, on how much is picked up). I would rather change the bigger bag - lift up a lid, slide out the bag and slide in a new bag - instead of emptying the little bin every time - pick up the vac and open it, then dump out loose debris. Emptying the big bag is easier and neater and you don't do it very often.
      My home is also two floors and a basement, about the same size as yours. Unfortunately, they haven't yet made a robot vacuum that knows how to climb stairs - LOL. Wouldn't that be great! I'm going to get this vac to put on the main floor so it can mop the kitchen and bathroom. My Roomba, which is very capable and also self emptying but doesn't mop, is going to be moved upstairs to the bedrooms. The basement, sadly, will rely on my own vacuuuming efforts.

    • @Hobo_X
      @Hobo_X 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, bagless is smarter design. Shark actually does bagless in a base which you only need to empty every couple weeks so it is indeed possible. However, I do NOT recommend shark at all - their mapping and AI is absolute trash. I only mention them to show it's possible. I'd rather buy one that uses bags than ever give Shark my money again.

    +Modern Castle - One of the best reviews that I have seen on this unit. Very helpful. Your hardwood floor finish looks comparable to ours. Are you using the map feature on your hardwood too? Any additional feedback on that surface if so (e.g. residual water)? Does anybody know how this vacuum would deal with a sheepskin rug? Do you have to define it as a no vacuum zone?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're too kind. Thanks so much!
      You wrote "using the mop feature", but I think you mean "mop". In any case, we're using both the map and mop on the hardwoods.
      I have just set the water level to low, so there is very little residual water left after it's done cleaning.
      I imagine it would struggle with the sheepskin rug and probably any thick rug. You'd just set a no go zone in the map. I have a bathmat that I set a no go zone around for similar reasons.

    How about smudges from the mop? I live in a place ( near the desert ) with plenty of dust, I'm worried that I will leave smudges or strikes on the floor.
    Currently i use Neato than run the iRobot M6 with dry mop first to collect all the fine dust that the neato missed and only than i can run the M6 with wet mop ( the whole process is very annoying )

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Overall, I'm impressed with the smudge factor. M6, Jet 240, Braava 360, and many other lower end robots I have experienced smudging with. I haven't experienced any significant level of smudging with the S7 MaxV.
      I live in Arizona, so we get tons of dust. It seems to get enough water onto the floor + the vibration seems to make a difference when it comes to smudging.

      I had iRobot i7+ with m6. That I runned it tandem (it could be setup automatically in the app). R S7 MaxV Ultra is my replacement. It does much better job at mopping. Suction power is incomperably better (it cleaned the carpet that was problem to clean with strong handheld vacuum). It picks everything it's supposed to and leaves for the mop only what belongs to the mop. Cleaning is much shorter because you do both at the same time (less than hour x 2,5 hours). You have to remember to change mop every time it runs with m6 (which I did/was forgetting for years). But there is BIG PROBLEM with m6 and I wouldn't recommend anyone to have this robot without warranty. One sensor broke on mine after warranty. As it turns out the whole robot is resin sealed brick. No part, absolutelly NO part can be changed or serviced. Breaking ANYTHING on the robot cannot be changed. I had to pay price of almost new unit for the repair because they have no choice but to sell me new unit. They cannot repair it. I liked iRobot, but I don't want to have disposable mopping robot that I trash every few years and buy new one. That's just not acceptable. So I'm getting rid of those iRobots. S7 does much better job than both of them.

    Wood floors! I've had mine over a year. I am amazed at how clean it has kept my floors. I am starting to notice wood water damage in some spots. I have always kept it at the lowest setting. I also refurbished my wood floors 3 months prior to getting my robot. I barely wash once a month now in fear that the mop will destroy my 8k investment of refurbishing the wood. Anyone else have a similar issue?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. If the wood isn't sealed that could be causing the damage.
      I've been using this and numerous other mopping robots on my wood floors for several years without issue.
      In general, I know wood flooring manufacturers recommend never using water, which just feels impossible...but any moisture will create a certain level of risk for wood.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose there are some carpets that would allow the wheels to sink too low and then drag the mop into the carpet, but it's not going to be all carpets. Most carpets the robot is going to ride on top and there will be clearance between carpet and mop.
      But even if it is dragging the mop a bit it certainly won't make the carpet filthy, possibly just very slightly damp.
