Man, the QR issue is a serious bummer, especially considering it's, by now, a piece of machinery they should've mastered. Also, it seems like it's not just a GamerMuscle issue, as several other reviewers have pointed the same issue out.
So it seems everyone who reviewed it agrees, the only that remains is to gather the moneys and order it to upgrade from the DFGT finally. Hopefully it will shave a second or two from my pace in powerful cars and maybe a couple of tenths on the MX5

Use an hair drier (no pun intended 😄) to heat up the glue in the sticker (or adhesive stickers in general) and it will come off easily without leaving any mark or residue 😉 thanks for the review, informative and right on point as per usual! Other reviewers get lost in enthusiastically praising products without really focusing or even stressing the eventual downsides or sometimes flaws they have. the best review so far, humorous but also substantive. By the way ... if you have both versions, maybe some competition to get one of them? : D I would love to see the difference to my T300
I did see a leaked photo of PS4/5 version although I have no clue when that will be available. Rim looks similar to the Thrustmaster TGTII rim which I’m just not a fan of… but then again, I’m still on a T150 so I’m sure I’d be thrilled to own it 😀
The drive hub would make it work on console, I use my Clubsport wheel in Pc mode across PS3/PS4/360/series x. Also lets you use ialogs hand brake or thrust master shifter on consoles with fanatec wheels. Super useful.
Great review GM as always. Only issue here in South Africa $349 = R15000 at advertised prices locally. I am gobsmacked at that price, it's 3X times the exchange rate. Will have to stick to the old Logitechs and Thrustmasters
Moza exists now, but after seeing the reviews all points on Fanatec still being the one to go for. Given overall Fanatec has better FFB feeling and no overheating issues plus better support for games. Ordered my csl dd qr2 ready2race wrc bundle with pedals too today :D
Actually imo my favorite dd wheel I've ever used. I liked it more then the dd1. It was smoother slightly more responsive and a bit quicker due to the carbon fiber shaft and the size. It's compact and perfect size. I just like everything about it. The 8nm with the boost kit feels more like a 10nm minimum it's why most yoyrubers are actually turning it down slightly when using it. For me it's plenty and I like servo dd motors more anyways. That's because of the smoothness and the way the ffb feels. There is a difference I can feel it but I'm sensitive to that stuff. I never use 15nm to 20nm 8 to 10nm is perfect for me ans I will be using the csl dd for my main lol 2 other honest yoytubers are saying the same as me also the ones not scared to hurt anyone's feelings. The ones nit worried about upsetting fanatec when they say they like it more more the dd1.
I wonder if I can keep my G27 pedals while using this new direct drive wheel? For example, I could have my G27 pedals connected to the G27 wheelbase and leave that wheelbase sitting on the floor out of the way, and in-game just move the direct drive wheel when assigning the controls, and move the G27 pedals. Or will I have to buy new pedals just because I'm upgrading my wheel?
fanatec have done great with the csl dd, its a shame they have added yet another software where you can adjust settings, when i went from a DD1 to a simucube it became quite clear where fanatec stumbles a little and its the fact every component in the chain has its own software/firmware, fanalab isnt an integral part of the wheelbase so you can take it or leave it etc its all just a bit of a mess that they have improved for sure but would be nice if there was just one single firmware and its done, i suspect the mess of software is what causes software issues and failures for people... the flexing issue for the DD1/2 was a big one aswell and its interesting to see now with these reviews that them eliminating the rubber of the DD1/2 isn't fixing the problem so it really wasn't to cause afterall it really was just tolerances between the QR and wheel. the standard mode for FFB is actually very nice, wasn't part of the DD1 software when i had one but that's good if it is now, its a nice simucube feature and im glad its now part of the fanatec software... hopefully the almost game changing static force reduction filter also follows over from the simucube software much like the interpolation filter which was an almost direct copy of the force reconstruction filter the simucube bases were using. its all good stuff, its what fanatec needs and shows the software is maturing albeit at a slow pace. good to see the csl dd kicks some ass.
Mines on order and can’t wait I’ve ordered with boost pack and I have already purchased clubsport V2 wheel. Think I’ll order the lighter mclaren wheel to compare. This will replace my logi tech g920. Can’t wait to feel the difference!!!
Great video gamer muscle like when you talked about the benfits of the dd base you said it really fast and sounded like the uk radio ads that you normally here haha was quite funny but got this bad boy on order myself 8nm power power pack never owned one before so look forward to getting it combined that with a formula v2 rim the one you showed off along with the new pedals that are coming out and the advanced paddle module too moving up from a 920 had that for about 2 years now so due for an upgrade not long to go now until release month had it on order since june :D And hopefully all goes on ok on my playseat standard evolution rig i have the silver one
Using the "High-Power PowerPack" I get a very notable thud-like noise, when changing directions with the McLaren V2 rim. So there is some play in the rotational axis. The QR1 (as shown in this video) does that too, but not, when the sercuring screw is in. So what I had to do was, throwing another 100€ at fanatec for a QR1. After having experienced snapped pins on the McLaren V2, I felt, this was my only option. Well played fanatec. Well played.
Funny guy, love him and sim sarcasm! I perceive the topic of rotating mass/inertia as fancy marketing (and as such, nonsense). It would make sense if the rim was free to spin but under normal conditions, the rim isn’t free spinning because it’s being held firmly in your hands. It means the FFB is felt by the resistance of your hands & arms. I could understand this argument if max torque were at Logitech levels. Moment of inertia is the engineering/physics term. The DD CSL has ample torque, even for rims with high moments of inertia (layman wording; heavy steering wheels).
1 you don't always hold firmly onto a wheel 2 you can literally feel the servo motor more with the lighter wheel rims ( as well as smaller diameter wheel rims obvously) 3 8nm is really quite week on the grand scheme of things from me experience you need at least 14+NM to make the wight difference between the fanatec rims effectively irrelivent to how that then effects the FFB feeling. I have litrally used every wheel rim on the market with tons of DD wheels for different companies this is not some hyperthtical thing.
mine didn't have the annoying sticker on it, I also noticed the power brick for the csw 2.5 and the boosted csl DD are the same except for the plug; kind of lame since I own both. CSL DD is so much better than my csw 2.5, its just so crisp
For anyone having issues with the CSL DD * Not being able to calibrate the H-pattern mode of the SQ 1.5 shifter: (1) Try with the short cable provided with the shifter. (2) If unsuccessful, unmount the wheel base, hold it tightly between your legs and try with short cable. ** Wheelbase or steering wheel disconnects in driver page or FFB/buttons/pedals quit working in-game: - on pc - (1) Connect the wheelbase with a wheel mounted and turn it on. (2) Open the driver page. (3) If everything seems connected, tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists (4) If the issue persists or something shows to be disconnected: Loosen the black C -clamp on the wheelbase shaft till you can rotate it slightly without too much effort. (5) Rotate the clamp gently till the driver page shows everything connected (6) Tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists I've had both issues, where the disconnection issues got worse and worse till the both of my wheels showed disconnected permanently. And after a month of trying drivers/firmware/usb-ports etc. these solutions solved my issues. *** On my initial fresh install of my CSL DD with Boost kit, the FFB was very weak. This was resolved quickly for me by uninstalling and re-installing the drivers again.
@GamerMuscleVideos Thanks for the video. This is the highlight of youtube for me today. The only problem is the fact you keep shaving the chimp and putting him on the screen. Tea for life
This is more than enough wheel for my needs. I don't sim race but would prefer a wheel over mouse/keyboard or controller options. Looking to use with games like Forza Horizon, Farming Simulator, Euro Truck Sim 2, American Truck Sim. Would be great if able to use when driving in GTA Online too but not sure if supported. Then further down the road (pun intended) if I decide to play AC or Project Cars I'd still have a decent wheel.
forza horizon is terrible with a wheel, the youtubers you see using a wheel have spent hours practicing, learning how to drive wrong just so they can use a wheel in forza horizon on youtube for views etc. maybe/ hopefully forza horizon 5 will have better wheel support/ physics/ ffb. but i wouldnt count on it, its an arcade game and those usually dont play nicely with wheels. i have a wheel (only a g29) but i always use a gamepad when playing forza horizon.
@@zwenkwiel816 same, i spent hours trying all the settings to see if any of them made it feel playable. i didnt succeed, so gamepad it is for horizon games.

Great review as usual Tea Bags! I wonder if my DD1 Power Pack would work with the Standard "Lower Power Power Pack" DD CSL Base? I wouldn't mind one as a spare.
Just ordered the CSL DD 8NM with the above rev link. I am curious how it does compared to my trusty old Thrustmaster TX, used it for 5 years now I believe, unfortunately the best is off from it. While spinning it has some areas where the rotation gets notably harder, all not so great for ffb, also some wobbly wobble and squeaking from the plastic construction. It served me well, but it is time to move on. Lockdown here we come! ;)
@@GamerMuscleVideos What do you think about the WRC rim? I can get one used for ~50€ below Fanatecs price. Any downsides besides no LCD screen? I do not care about quick release for now, as long as it is tightly on there. Besides that; Love your contend and you are on of the few trustworthy guys, keep it up. 😊
I was about to pre-order when this was announced but then of course Fanatec said it's not PlayStation compatible. A PS4/PS5 compatible version is coming later an that's the one I'm going to get because I don't want to use my old wheel just for Gran Turismo 7 next year.
Was that a production model? Or a prototype? I’m waiting for installment of my unit and having it wiggling on a quick release would be a real disappointment…
Just letting you know that there is some sort of high pitched frequency coming from the entire video wherever there is sound. Im not sure if it is coming from your microphone or editing software, but it made me unable to continue watching as I was getting a headache. I double checked another video and it was fine so it does seem to be the video. Just a heads up, overall what I watched the video seemed great. Its possible that some people may not be able to even hear the frequency due to the pitch, so if you don't notice it maybe that's why.
Hello. I am looking for a long term build and was wondering if the CSL DD is right for me, if if the 8nM is going to be too low. I have the F-GT Elite front and side mount cockpit with the ES1 Elite Seat. I have the following on order and I am wondering if for the price, I can get a better product. Currently on order I have the Fanatec V3 pedals, Clubsport Formula V2.5X wheel, advanced podium F1 paddles and the CSL DD. It came to around $2,000 CDN, so for the price I am wondering if there is a better set of wheel/DD and pedals I should go with. Willing to spend a little more if it's a big improvement in what I am getting. Your help is appreciated.
I went the high power power pack over the low power power pack as I have a V2.5 and I think the high power power pack will be more representative over the low power power pack, it also makes you think if they will ever do a higher power power pack to gain more NM....
No , only had one wheel rim to use with that as well. I mean it works fine with the screw but as i said in the video I'd rather not have to use a screw , be intresting to see what the QR2 is like, just suprising given how well the CSL QR works with it.
You need to check why you were picking up a really high frequency with your mic. The tone was really driving me nuts when I listened through my speakers.
Its subliminal programming making everyone subscribe and like I set it up wrong you should not be able to hear it... Its actually from my bloody USB hub if I dont have my hotas warthog throttle plugged in to the USB it causes it normally I notice it but for some reason i did not this time :( hopefully I have only given a few people hearing loss. Just treat it as training for being in the armed police force , you are now imune to flash bangs !

Am at the moment looking to get into sim racing. I am not sure if I want to mount to my desk or buy a playseat challenge. But because I want the DD base I am leaning more towards the desk mount. Question do you have any issues using the chair with the pedals? Like sliding away because of the wheels on the chair?
Being a CSWv2 owner and not able to spend $2000aud on a DD1 I really hope Fanatec make a 9nm low power DD with 12nm boost kit soon at around $1200aud for the 12nm.
Updates will be on the website or fanatec blog thats best place to follow, as for table clamp I found it works alright it does flex a bit but not in a way that's really an issue I think generally if a person is spending more than 350 on a wheel then they probably would want a nice wheel stand or simrig to really get the most out of it anyway.

Love the googly eyes LOL!! 😮😮 p.s. I have bad tinnitus so couldn't detect the audio issue - bonus 😜
To me that makes a review completely useless. An honest review is useful to the viewer to have a genuine overlook, and to the manufacturer to know where the product needs perfecting to make it even better. Keep ‘em coming
Hair dryers are for women and Fanatec should just use vinyl-stickers instead.
You think GM has a hair dryer?!

the best review so far, humorous but also substantive. By the way ... if you have both versions, maybe some competition to get one of them? : D I would love to see the difference to my T300
As soon as the PS4/5 compatible version is available to order I'm on it.
Its coming i do believe man
I did see a leaked photo of PS4/5 version although I have no clue when that will be available.
Awesome content! 🤘🏻
Great review GM as always. Only issue here in South Africa $349 = R15000 at advertised prices locally. I am gobsmacked at that price, it's 3X times the exchange rate. Will have to stick to the old Logitechs and Thrustmasters
Plus you only have like 4 hours a day you can play. With all the loadshedding I don't know how you can sim race 🤣
Moza exists now, but after seeing the reviews all points on Fanatec still being the one to go for. Given overall Fanatec has better FFB feeling and no overheating issues plus better support for games. Ordered my csl dd qr2 ready2race wrc bundle with pedals too today :D
Love your work! As always a great vid.
Used your affiliate link to buy the DD to support your amazing dream, seriously!
The ones nit worried about upsetting fanatec when they say they like it more more the dd1.
cant wait to upgrade from my g27 i think its time and this is a perfect upgrade will have to wait awhile coz theyre gunna be sold out straight away

1 you don't always hold firmly onto a wheel
2 you can literally feel the servo motor more with the lighter wheel rims ( as well as smaller diameter wheel rims obvously)
3 8nm is really quite week on the grand scheme of things from me experience you need at least 14+NM to make the wight difference between the fanatec rims effectively irrelivent to how that then effects the FFB feeling.
I have litrally used every wheel rim on the market with tons of DD wheels for different companies this is not some hyperthtical thing.
That sticker on the shaft. Come on Fanatec!
mine didn't have the annoying sticker on it, I also noticed the power brick for the csw 2.5 and the boosted csl DD are the same except for the plug; kind of lame since I own both. CSL DD is so much better than my csw 2.5, its just so crisp
Proper content.

For anyone having issues with the CSL DD
* Not being able to calibrate the H-pattern mode of the SQ 1.5 shifter:
(1) Try with the short cable provided with the shifter.
(2) If unsuccessful, unmount the wheel base, hold it tightly between your legs and try with short cable.
** Wheelbase or steering wheel disconnects in driver page or FFB/buttons/pedals quit working in-game:
- on pc -
(1) Connect the wheelbase with a wheel mounted and turn it on.
(2) Open the driver page.
(3) If everything seems connected, tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists
(4) If the issue persists or something shows to be disconnected: Loosen the black C -clamp on the wheelbase shaft till you can rotate it slightly without too much effort.
(5) Rotate the clamp gently till the driver page shows everything connected
(6) Tighten the black C-clamp on the wheelbase shaft a bit (or to 15Nm torque) and see if the issue persists
I've had both issues, where the disconnection issues got worse and worse till the both of my wheels showed disconnected permanently. And after a month of trying drivers/firmware/usb-ports etc. these solutions solved my issues.
*** On my initial fresh install of my CSL DD with Boost kit, the FFB was very weak. This was resolved quickly for me by uninstalling and re-installing the drivers again.

I'd probably not try mixing power supplys with devices , might end up with an expensive firework display.
Hi there. Which wheel are you using? It looks great! Regards, Gernot
Lockdown here we come! ;)
Thanks 👍. I think you will love it ☕
@@GamerMuscleVideos What do you think about the WRC rim? I can get one used for ~50€ below Fanatecs price. Any downsides besides no LCD screen? I do not care about quick release for now, as long as it is tightly on there.
Besides that; Love your contend and you are on of the few trustworthy guys, keep it up. 😊
I would throw out my t300 setup if I could buy the base+lc pedals and rim. Perfect upgrade bundle...but will they?
I was about to pre-order when this was announced but then of course Fanatec said it's not PlayStation compatible. A PS4/PS5 compatible version is coming later an that's the one I'm going to get because I don't want to use my old wheel just for Gran Turismo 7 next year.

@@GamerMuscleVideos me either but at £840 with a wheel or £490 without and 10nm it’s very intriguing.
Can you connect CSL Elite pedals to the USB data port in this wheel?

Does the rim that come with the CSL Elite PS4 work on the DD? Can I just buy the base if I already have that rim? Thanks for the review, GM!
It works with all the current fanatec wheel rims. So yes will work with your PS4 CSLE rim 👍
Hey Gamer muscle. Would it be recommended that I use the 8NM DD on a desk with full torque or would I have to turn it down?
On Boosted media they recommend 5nm on desk.
Your help is appreciated.
earned my sub and like funny vid and good info thanks :)
I went the high power power pack over the low power power pack as I have a V2.5 and I think the high power power pack will be more representative over the low power power pack, it also makes you think if they will ever do a higher power power pack to gain more NM....
I can confirm there will never be a Higher Power Power Pack for the CSL DD. Only the Low Power Power Pack and High Power Power Pack.
Did you also encounter the QR issues with the pre-production unit?
No , only had one wheel rim to use with that as well. I mean it works fine with the screw but as i said in the video I'd rather not have to use a screw , be intresting to see what the QR2 is like, just suprising given how well the CSL QR works with it.

Haven't a clue what to expect but from watching reviews it looks promising. Any recommendations on pedals? I like the clubsport v3s but I dont need a clutch as I'm not going for a shifter.
Any advice welcome, thanks.
Just get the fanatec CSL pedals cheap and work great you can then upgrade the loadcell for a clutch if you ever want to drive stick.
@@GamerMuscleVideos Thankyou. Just looked and they're not available until the end of march on their webpage unfortunately. But the V3 are available right now 😅.

Great review, two questions. Any updates on the delivery schedule and what’s the flex on table clamp like?
Updates will be on the website or fanatec blog thats best place to follow, as for table clamp I found it works alright it does flex a bit but not in a way that's really an issue I think generally if a person is spending more than 350 on a wheel then they probably would want a nice wheel stand or simrig to really get the most out of it anyway.
