Minor correction - they don't require 3 components. As someone who uses a wheelchair, I use my formula v2 wheel with podium shift module and the clutch levers mapped to throttle and brake, so I don't need pedals. The included clutch levers on the mclaren wheel can be used for the same purpose. For the majority of people pedals are required, but just something to note as a great option for those of us with limited mobility :)
I went from a G29 to T300. Basically I went to T300 so I can have wheel options but it is also a wheel with better force feedback and less noisy. This probably makes more sense as an upgrade now than going for any other CSL fanatec option. A CSL elite probably won't be a huge upgrade to the T300, probably a small upgrade, while this is getting into the direct drive territory.
Thanks to you I bought the CSL Elite from a Logitech and loved it. I got the Elite and fell back in love with sim racing. I now have the CSL DD and it’s mind blowing!!! I love it. Love your clear and precise videos with no bull, drama, acting. Just good clear instruction.
I don't know if I would call the upgrade mind blowing, let's not oversell this to potential CSL Elite owners because the difference really isn't earth shattering. Peak torque is for sure greater, that I admit. But holding torque isn't that drastically different, and right now the CSL DD is incredibely buggy. Many steering wheels are incompatible still, and there are electromagnetic interference issues with the wheelbase that I highly doubt will be fixed via firmware upgrades as they are physical hardware issues. If you have an H-Pattern shifter, it's basically unusable due to EMI....
8:04 while the logitech pedals and shifter don't work out of the box without the Logitech base, you can definitely buy adapters which make them compatible, I think this is important to bring up as you can absolutely enjoy the CSL DD and only have to buy a wheel and some adapters rather than spending more hundreds on new pedals and the same again on a new shifter. Personally I recommend the leo bodnar pedal adapter and the same for the shifter adapter, I think they're £25 ish per. The leo bodnar pedal adapter has added benefits of making the pedal travel linear and adjustable using their software.
Nice to know but still. That's already 50£ and the CSL pedals are like 80 US$. Also considering you can sell your complete logitech rig for around 100-150 you might be covered for the whole pedals + shifter package.
@@Laic27 of course it is more. What I am saying is instead of spending half the price of pedals on adaptons, sell everything old and use the money to buy the new stuff.
@@MegaIronica Okay, let's say I sell all my logitech stuff, wheel, shifter, pedals. The most I will get for them at the moment is £250, that's pushing it even. I want a shifter now, that's at least £100 if I get one of the SHH shifters (plus import fees & taxes, so let's call it £120). Now I buy the new fanatec pedals including a clutch, that's £102, plus £20 shipping, plus the £11.50 fee UPS charges, so now we're at £253. Way over what I think I could get for my entire old setup, and *vastly* outside your estimate of $100 - $150. So no, I think if upgrading to the CSL DD from logitech, get leo bodnar adapters for the £45 it's going to cost you, and you can sell them *for almost no loss* when you're finally ready to properly upgrade.
2:46 genuinely had me creasing lol. Informative and soooo helpful as always. I have a CSL elite and have done for almost 3 years. I’ve really enjoyed it on the whole however the more I enjoy sim racing, naturally the more I want to upgrade so this review is really helpful. I put an order in last week so should see it come November time. I suspect a bit like others reported with the DD1, that in time games will become better tuned to the wheel base and vice versa with firmware updates that it’ll only get even better so it’s definitely an investment!
Great video mate, this is what we need a video from someone that doesn't have a dd1 or dd2 and of course this is a slight downgrade, for us Logitech or csl elite owners we need to hear from people that are in the same boat with the wheels they have. I hope to grab one of these soon and appreciate your great review. Keep up the good work mate.
I upgraded from a CSW to the CSL DD. I play mostly ACC and equally I found the improvement marginal but noticeable. I'm happy with the switch to DD, but equally bummed out by the money I lost on selling my 8 month old CSW. My advice for Logitech users, wait for the marketplace to be flooded with CSL Elite and CSWs as the DDs are delivered. You'll have nearly the same experience, for less money.
Re waiting for the market to be flooded, Logitec/Thrustmaster users will still need a Fanatec wheel, so my opinion is that CSW+Wheel bundles should still make good money. Not going to throw away money for such a small difference in performance gain over a CSW.
I got a CSW and F1 carbon wheel usef for a really good price. It is absolutely lovely... besides the DD are still sold out anyways. The previous owner told me long after he sold me his unit he didn't find a big difference comparng the DD with the CSW.
@dannyleeracing okay.. let me start off with the main two bads of this experience. The template on their website is not correct. It's off, and I had to make my own template. The second bad thing is the no including of the M6 screws.. I had to grind two of them down because the DD isn't machined equally, so the outside screws that I had were longer and could have dented the case/body. Other than that.. let me just say.. Whatever TH-camr says that a direct drive won't make you faster... yea that's a lie.. just in the DD alone, I'm able to be accurate on turning beautifully on a corner.. ATM I have it on 3 NM, and I didn't get myself the boost kit. I'll bring it to 5nm next week. I want to see how much of a difference increasing the FFB will show by next week. This tech is nasty, my guy. It's definitely a must-have if you want to sim race or just sit back and run laps by yourself . Waiting on my shifter, I didn't go with Fanatec because I wanted to set myself a budget and not blow it all in one sale, lol I like to upgrade as I go, and it keeps me more attached to the Hobbie. Oh!! And as for the load cell brake.. Messed with the force in their app and got it to where I felt I could manipulate and memorize the brake pressure. 100% did it for me, I'm super confident in low pump of the brakes now and keep the cars inertia as smooth as possible It's definitely a huge game changer, lol
I started with G25 but broke down, bought G27 used both together for 20 years. But today I orderd a csl dd with load cell brake. Wanted it for a real long time. Now it's waiting til I wil receive the package cant wait.
Thank you Danny, very informative. I just ordered my Fanatec set up with the CSL dd, pedals shifter and handbrake, I have to be patient as it will not be available until mid November. However it is always good to hear that one has done something right as I too have been using a G29 for many years and finally decided to step up to DD. That coupled with my new sim rig Trak racer 180 should be a vast improvement on my previous rig. Looking forward to getting it all put together in time for the annual time trials at my house over the holidays. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
I just upgraded to a Fanatec DD wheelbase from a Fanatec Clubsport v1 wheelbase. This means that I already have Fanatec pedals and steering wheels. I use the Fanatec Clubsport desk clamp, and it works much better than I thought it would. The CSL DD is an amazing product. Smooth... smooth... smooth, accurate, crazy detailed feedback, runs cool, etc, and for what these cost, it is the best sim racing bit of gear ever. Wow!
I used a G29 for a decent while, thought it felt fine, till I got a CSL DD recently and it is absolutely light years ahead of the Logitech, completely transformed every single sim I tried, it's just a hundred times better in every way.
The force feedback in acc was definitely designed mainly for a dd wheel. I have a thrustmaster ts-pc (compared to fanatec, i have heard it's between the csl elite, and csw 2.5, in terms of force feedback) the ffb in acc feels ok on my wheel, but not as good as some other sims in all honesty. But with a dd, i've heard many people said that acc has one of the best, if not the best ffb system.
Yeah I have an accuforce v2 and have never understood some of the complaints about ACC force feedback. I can feel every detail down to the slight rumble of the engine. It puts a smile on my face every time I flip the ignition switch and push the start button on my button box. 😂 on a sim lab cockpit that engine rumble can be felt through the whole chassis and it’s insanely immersive. I’ve even put off getting a bass transducer setup because it’s almost like having one now.
Been using my trusty Driving force gt and thanks to this ill likely be upgrading finally to the csl dd! Used this old wheel on everything from iracing, drifting in assetto, to truck sim driving
I moved from a Thrustmaster T300 base to the CSL DD and with boostkit. I get is so much more information from the wheel and I now understand how vague the belt driven wheels were .. I have also started getting IRFFB optimized to use the CSL DD, so much more alive in iRacing.
Ok so getting ready to buy a DD wheel. I have the T300. & I like the wheel . My real only complaint is I don’t feel the tire/ ground mix. & this is the real reason I want a better wheel. Is it really a night & day experience. I only play Iracing. Thanks for any feedback
Yep, I’m the one who started with a G29 and moved up to a Fanatec CSL elite. It was such a huge step in terms of immersion. I was thinking about buying a CSL DD too, but a lot of reviews on here told me that it wasn’t a big upgrade compared to the CSL Elite. Now I just went all in and ordered a DD1, and then I’ll have a rig that doesn’t need any more upgrading!
For sure, if the gap between G29 and CSL Elite is 100% extra, the gap to the CSL DD is more like 25% extra - but for something that replaces the current lineup at the same price, that's a 'free' upgrade. I feel sorry for folks that couldn't get hold of a CSL/CSW all through the summer but now it's coming back into their court with this!
@@dannyleeracing yeah you’re right! My way of thinking was more: If I buy the CSL DD, there will always be a voice in the back of my head saying that there is still something better out there
Thanks for this review! I watched a couple videos about the CSL DD, but this is the one answered all my question. I use the CSL Elite and mostly drive ACC. What finally sold it, was your comment about noise. I too do not like my neighbours to be disturbed by noisy FFB in action, a reason why I had to stay away from many cool racing communities which start at times too late for noise.
Dang it! Thanks to reviews like these, I just dropped my order for the GT DD pro bundle with shifter and hand brake. I’ll keep the G923 for split screen with wifey (yes, she gets to drive the fanatec 😅). Gonna need to re-enforce my F-GT Lite cockpit to sustain the 8nm force feedback! So excited. Cheers!
i upgraded from a g920 to a csl dd without the boost kit. And i can say that everything you said is true, it's is a game-changer. For example in f1 2021 i did a 1 second better lap than my previous best just because of the force feedback (I used g920 with fanatec lc pedals so that is clear). And simracing became something i want to do more often because i enjoy it way more.
Glad I saw this video! A week ago, I bought a rseat rig and pre ordered the new Fanatec Gran Turismo DD premium bundle. To keep me occupied until it arrives, I bought a used G29. And…. What a disappointment. Almost started doubting if I should have gotten into sim racing. I have had a lot of fast cars, and driven a lot on the Nürburgring, and the Logitech is so not realistic. So I’m happy to hear how BIG of a treat I’m in for. Thanks!
My CSL DD 8Nm arrived today, I already had VR and rumble feedback. I was using the G29. I played previously on a friend's CSL Elite - I'd say that was more than twice the experience of the G29, I expected the CSL DD to just be better yet. But the CSL DD feels like a whole different thing, the jump is lightyears ahead of my Logitech. I could see a time where I want 25% more force, but only for immersion - it feels like all the detail & force required is there to feel the full effect of the simulation and it's blowing my mind. Even before I tuned in some settings I was a very happy customer.
I think you have just sold me on finally upgrading. I've had the Logitech G29 for years and prior to that, the G27. Fanatec just announced the Polyphony Digital licensed GT DD Pro setup for PS/PC and that's what I have been waiting for. A relatively affordable DD setup compatible with PS5 and PC. I love my PC sims but I also love Gran Turismo. Going to preorder the GT DD Pro premium bundle that includes the brake/clutch upgrade and the power boost upgrade. Thanks for making this video!
@@dannyleeracing No sir, I am from the states. I was curious on how the VAT and international shipping is going to work seeing as how I've never ordered internationally or from Fanatec before. Also not certain that will be applicable due to Fanatec having a US based website. Not sure if they distribute from a US location as well...
great review, you have a talent to come up with some really silly stuff 2:46, never laughed so much! thank's mate for perfect morning, I'm in good mood zone now!
Definately a huge improvement for those who come from Logitech/Thrustmaster wheel bases, also a noticeable improvement for CSL Elite users but a very small change for CSW 2.5 users.., its not worth to sell this base for half of its price having to add extra 250-300€ in order to get the CSL DD 8Nm bundle...
I've had G27, TS-PC Racer, and currently CSL Elite. I've tried a Simucube 30nm wheel and was simply blown away by how immediately intuitive and instinctive driving is. I'm going DD1/2 as soon as I can find on this week.
Finally a solid review instead of TH-camrs just trying to sell it so their affiliated links bring them money My question is, is this worth the 2x price tag from a T300rs?
I say yeah, I had the t300rs and it started to show some wear. It still worked but I noticed it would move slightly out of place and I would have to nudge it back center. Also started making more noise. I upgraded to a csl elite and like it a lot better. Would have got the csl DD if I was to upgrade from t300 now. I spent a lot of hours on the t300 and was drifting so that probably contributed to the wear. DD wheels are more reliable also.
Great video, though I'd say: the CSL DD is probably only worth considering if you're already part of the Fanatec Ecosystem and dont have to also buy pedals, wheel, etc. If you're not using compatible Fanatec gear already, it's a full replacement and at minimum 3x more expensive, compared to Logitech. It's definitely NOT entry level gear, no matter how good it is. 1100-1400euro Fanatec setup (base+wheel, pedals, desk-clamp) vs 250-300euro Logitech setup, is out of many people's budget range... especially considering that once you go this route, you'll be more likely to spent a lot more money for a rig/gear. Not something most single-screen, ikea-chair, shakey desk users would do. I'm sure if given the chance, I'd praise it as well, as I do love racing as well, but I dont think this level of gear is worth comparing. One is good build-quality casual driving gear, the other is entry level sim-racing gear. This is like comparing a jet-fighter versus a crop-duster. They both fly and do the job they're designed for, but they're not in the same league.
@@bO0mt0wn Please show me the page where you get that setup. I'd love to see it. But please make sure it's a set with 3 pedals and H patern shifter... coz that's what Logitech offers.
I love myself to make this step about a week ago. So much different. But I am also grateful for my previous 10+ years as a logitech user. I learnt a lot with that as well. I think fanatec is just too much for starting with. it can easily happen that at the end you think simracing is not for you and then you just throw away hundreds of dollars, while if you just keep it low cost to slowly learn what does this hobby mean and how much it would cost to get what you really need you can save a lot. Also, its worth mentioning that logitech is more than you think. I know by experience that you can get much more from a logitech wheel or pedal if you have patience and time. But a regular user wants out of the box solutions and uses logitech as it comes.
Thanks for this review! Really great and detailed review with a clear conclusion! (Too many reviews don't actually include any conclusion) Looks like I'll need to get one!
It's well worth it,I'm from csl elite and it gives you so much more feel and a complete control over the car, less spinning and track limits under control.you get more consistent lap times without trying to hard.A must buy guys, you won't regret it for a second.
complete opposite for me, is there something wrong with my wheel? I spin out of control on the easiest turns which would never happen with a controller, it even oscillates on straightways where i have to fight the wheel to keep the car straight. real cars dont behave that way. something is not right.
People that are getting the absolute best transition are those that were already in the Fanatec Eco system with a Csl Elite or other belt drive unit and can move up to the crisper fidelity of the Csl DD for just the cost of the wheelbase at under $500 as they already own the pedals and have wheels which are compatible. Those still shopping for actual entry level gear at those entry level price points will not spend what it cost for the Csl DD just like they did not spend the entry cost for the original CSL Elite. Those on a tight budget looking to upgrade from the Logitech/ TM 150 class of gear should be able to find some decent prices on used belt driven Csl and Csw wheelbases over the next year or so which will still be a solid upgrade . Still will need to buy the wheel and pedals though. I did the the Logitech to Csl Elite to the 8nm Csl DD path myself and yes I can feel a lot of difference and feel the upgrade was worthwhile. I do mostly play ACC. I had also upgraded from the original Csl loadcell pedals to the v3"s a year or so ago as well. Personally I am going to keep my original Csl stuff stored away as a back up unit rather than sell it. I always like having a back up option available but in todays times with some of the lead times till products come back in stock and available having a backup seems more like a good idea than ever before. Also at this time I have no plans to buy a Playstation 5 and have unhooked and stored my PS4 away but my Csl Elite is PS compatible where my new DD is not if I were to change my mind down the road. I had stored my old Logitech away in its original box as a backup but now I will probably give someone just starting out a decent deal on the the G29 and a GT Omega wheel stand that is doing nothing but collecting dust. I feel that the DD is a good upgrade and for the average sim racer that plans to stick with sim racing the Fanatec line of gear and ecosystem is a good value and of a quality that should satisfy most casual racers. Not everyone wants to invest top tier money for the highest end stuff available to play a racing game on their PC but does want decent gear at an affordable price point. Fanatec can meet the criteria! Honestly starting from scratch this is not inexpensive gear with a 5nm dd wb at $350, wheel at $199 and cheapest non load cell pedals at another $80 you are looking at $630 plus tax and shipping and with the 8nm unit around $760 plus tax and shipping. Not to mention that most people that go to this level of wheelbase will want to add on a loadcell brake option which right now is only available with the V3 pedal option. It will be coming out for the new CSL pedals but no one knows when or its actual cost yet. Good informative video that touches on all the important aspects of doing the upgrade or those considering buying a Csl DD.
Not to mention a rig and chair to put it on. I'm absolutely not confident that a table clamp can handle 5nm, my old TMX's clamp feels like trash already and that wheel's pretty wimpy.
I upgraded from a CSW 2.5, I mainly play ACC, it's a little upgrade you can definatley feel more and it's much smoother, but the silence..... oh the silence, I love it.
I've gone from a G920 to a CSL Elite just shy of a year ago. For the first 6-7 months, it was constant hell with wheelbase, wheel rim and pedal set glitches and game breaking firmware bugs, to the point where I had to reinstall the firmware package and drivers twice. Now that I got the bad stuff out of the way, I have to say everything else is far, far better. The Clubsport V3 pedals are a major improvement in every way. I've found myself becoming much more consistent and even improving my one lap pace with these pedals, the loadcell brakes are amazing. Also, you can say goodbye to pedal flickering, which is something that plagued my old pedals to the point where they were unusable. The wheelbase is leagues ahead with it force feedback, with the G920 you could barely feel any detail beyond a very weak simulation of holding cornering forces, but you can feel so much more with the CSL Elite.
@@samuellp1146 I'm planning to fully revamp my rig with a Simucube wheelbase and Heusinkveld pedals. I don't think it's worth it to upgrade from the CSL Elite to the CSL DD.
I recently upgraded from a G25 to CSL Elite and you're right, that is a massive jump. It's like going from 480i to 1080p. I reckon the DD would be like going to 4k, which like you say, isn't mind blowing. I kept my G25 pedals and added a Leo Bodnar cable to use them independently. Definitely looking for deals on loadcells now.
When my Logitech G29 failed after 4 months I got Fanatec CSW 2.5 and I have to say that the Logitech crapping the bed so early was actually a blessing because it kept me from trudging on for months or maybe years with it. The CSW 2.5 feels so much better. Now, years later, I am considering the step to a DD wheel and I have to say based on my experiences with the 2.5 wheel that Fanatec is definitely in that conversation.
The CSW 2.5 was a fine old thing, according to folks' views the CSL DD 8nm won't be a great deal different to the CSW 2.5 so if you want an undisputed upgrade you're looking at a full fat DD, but then again your old CSW will sell to make the CSL DD a fair 'sidegrade' for not much money when the old base is sold
Coming from the Clubsport base here and also running the CSL DD. Over on the fanatec reddit someone explained it quite well. The Clubsport has more holding torque and feels more like power steering, but it is a bit slower. The CSL DD has slighty less strenght, but it is far, far more direct then the clubsport, but with casual driving this is really not that noticable. Now that i've put some hours in to the CSL DD i've kept slides i would never have dreamt of holding, even in iracing.
I used a fanatec once on assetto Corsa and it was a whole new world from my g29. I was able to set a record and win a trophy against hundreds of other people, I even bet the owner of that simulator company lol. It just felt so good, I could feel the tyres and the grip and feeling the car let go was so easy to recognize and save. The g29 is just the feeling of the motors and cogs and the car is already sideways before I can feel it. So I guess Logitech you have to learn to use your eyes to keep the car in check as opposed to fanatecs where you can pretty much focus on the racing line and use the feedback in your arms to keep the car in check. G29 isn't a 'bad' wheel. Its a cost effective way for most people to get into wheel sim racing. But fanatecs are just next level
Oh mate I just ordered the $800 Ready2Race with 8nm csl elite v2 pedals and the mclaren wheel... I cant wait for it!!! I come from g29 so probably I m getting the same experience as u. So how does it feel a month later, how long did it take u to get used to it?
@@dannyleeracing The pedals were such a massive improvement. I also upgraded from using a desk to getting a wheel stand 2.0, and I think that played a big part in improving my experience too. Still waiting on upgrading wheel base. I may actually just go for a T300, unless we can get some stand alone 5nm baes in stock. Not sure though. I'm holding out hope that Moza offers their new lower end DD as a stand alone wheel and base, sans pedals.
I am brand new to sim racing and actually bought a G29. The good thing is that they would not have delivered till the end of January and I did the purchase on Amazon at the beginning of December. Then I caught wind of the GT CSL DD Pro for PS. After reading up and watch TH-cam, I canceled my order and immediately order the DD. This is my first wheel and I have not played any driving games since GT 4 and F12015. So I am really a rookie. So I am eagerly waiting for delivery. I have my Omega Classic already and will eventually get the wheelbase after my pocket recovers from this purchase.
I went from G923 to DD1 and I love it. The CSL DD will probably be great for those that can't afford the premium wheels. If you've got $500 get the CSL DD. Nothing beats Direct Drive.
Honestly, it’s probably the way to go for MOST sim racers that are a bit more casual. I do think there is still a place for the Logitech G9xx wheels, especially for new users.
Hi racers, my G923 died after only a year of usage, the supplier gave my money back instead of sending me a new one. Ordered right away a CSL DD with a Mc Laren GT3w wheel. still haven't received the package...Can't wait ! this awesome vid doesn't help me being patient ! :)
great video man! as person who managed to use a logitech momo racing force for over 10 years upgrading to g29 didnt feel as a big improvement as only the functionality rose (more pedals, H pattern shifter and 900deg rotiation) but i got to the point where i feel that the wheel is limiting my progress in sim racing this was a very helpful review, now , when i can lash out a decent sum of money for a rig , CSL DD , and pedals, i will deffinitely get one.
You will absolutely love it coming from a G29 - there's no doubt at all that it's made every minute of gameplay better, it's a vast difference especially if you've never tried out a superior wheel. I loved my G29, but I didn't know what I was missing til I'd spent far too much time with it!
I had a csl elite and pre ordered the 5nm csl dd. When I got my shipping email I then purchased the 8nm power pack to make sure I got them both as I wanted to try the lower one to see what it’s like. My first impressions was how smooth it was, you literally cannot put it into words. But strait away I noticed the lack of power. I had to jack up the strength settings in iracing for it to feel decent compared to the csl elite. To me it felt like 3/4 of the power of the elite at best. When I installed the 8nm power unit the csl dd came to life. It felt like the power had been doubled. Going from a elite to a 5nm dd is a sideways upgrade at best. All your gaining is the lack of teeth feeling and no free play in the center of the wheel while trading force feed back strength. But I would say that the 8nm csl dd feels like twice the wheel as the elite for just $150 more.
Thanks for taking the time to comment with this, that's really valuable feedback to those who see it - as I ordered it with the boost kit I didn't get the standard power supply to compare as I'd have been interested to see!
great video with great info, thanks! I drive on the G29, and whilst i'm happy with it, i now crave a DD wheel. Would love to see how this performs in rally and f1
So, I had a G923 for about 2 weeks and I couldn’t stand it. It was loud, clunky, loud, not really strong enough, loud and kinda cheap feeling. Oh, and it was loud. I finally decided to pull the trigger on the Fanatec GR DD Pro. I got the premium bundle, and on top of that I got the same McLaren GT3 wheel seen in the video. And I went deeper still. I decided that if I was going to get a DD, I needed to just commit. So….. I also got a sim rig and a buttkicker. I can’t wait to put everything together when it arrives because I have a feeling with my surround sound (physical and headphone) and VR, it’s gonna be an out of this world experience.
Excellent video bro. Lots of useful info and makes me want one. But i like the simplicity of a console and don't have a suitable pc. The problem is it's a big investment if you are starting from scratch. I have a PS3. So would need at least a PS4 and GTDD. Or a gaming pc and full csl kit. Same price either way. Keep up the great work.
I'm upgrading from G27. To save money, I'll leave my G27 connected for the pedals and Hshifter, but I will assign the CSL DD as the steering input and leave the G27 wheel base in the corner with the pedals and Hshifter connected to it - and it's USB connected to the PC.
I only started sim racing 7 months ago, I’ve been on the Logitech G29 for those 7 months, the wheel definitely has a gear ⚙️ feel about it, but the force feedback is good for the price, however the pedals are relatively cheap, I just got a Playseat Challenge yesterday for a cockpit, and my CSL pedals with the loadcell kit arrive later today, but this DD is definitely on my radar for the future
Seen your comment figured id check in…hows your setup? Have you upgraded? Im currently running thrustmaster (sim racing for 4 months now) but I want to switch over to fanatec
@@mike617 Still on my G29 and it's still going strong, CSL pedals with the loadcell brake made a huge difference and I would 100% recommend, as for the CSL dd I'm thinking about ordering one in a month or 2
@@CJ-uh8bk awesome, Iv been running load cell pedals they are amazing…I’m about to switch over to fanatec I believe…o was thinking the DD1 but I think I’m going to save some money and go with the DD pro
I bought the V3 pedals going from logitech and its night and day. I feel like a can acually race and not be scared being close to ppl coming into braking zones and also my consistency and lap times has improved. I now have a DD1 on order to upgrade my g29 wheel and I cant wait to feel how much of a difference it will be compared to the g29.
Mine comes tomorrow I had a logitech also for 8 years now I get my fanatec clubsport xbox bundle csl dd (8nm)elite pedals and Podium Button Module and shifter I'll be ordering another wheel rim next week can't wait
I just finished setting up my DD CSL this afternoon. I came from a Thrustmaster T300 RS and the DD CSL is a night and day difference to the good. One thing, don't bother with the 5nm base power supply. Do like Danny Lee and get the 8nm Booster upgrade.
Considering the 5nm version comes with 2 years of warranty by default, while the 8nm only comes with 1 year of warranty, really makes me question the longevity of these products.
Nice podcast. Good review I wish u had at least mentioned thrystmaster even if just to say u haven't compared them. But really good smoth presentation you seem comfortable and enthusiastic so I subscribed.
If you all can, take a look at the Simagic Alpha Mini. 10NM a force and it peaks a 13NM. Most people only run their wheels at 10NM, anyway. 650 USD for the wheelbase and sometimes can be found at 500 USD. Their wheels are a bit pricey, but they are above any of the Fanatec offerings. If desired, you can set up most wheels to their QR system, just do some research on it. While I don't think the video is wrong to say the CSL DD is a great deal, you probably will feel a desire to upgrade once you realize that the forces are kind of meh when there is an option with double (triple the peak force) for a reasonable price that doesn't hide behind some garbage "boost pack".
£300 Logitech G923 vs £1000 Fanatec setup..so the question is that £700 difference worth it? Simracing is my hobby which i am lucky enough to be able to indulge in pretty much when i want to. I have hooked up with a couple of great communities and regularly take part in close fair and respectful races and leagues. I could have kept the Logitech setup and been perfectly happy but now i know what load cell and DD does for the simracing experience I would recommend to anyone that knows they like simracing and have time and money to spend on their hobby not to bother starting with Logitech but hold off and invest straight into DD. Danny made two very good points.... 'the DD is the blue ray version' and the simracing experience becomes more about muscle memory and feel as opposed to visual queues...

@@MattO109 its a joke
Minor correction - they don't require 3 components. As someone who uses a wheelchair, I use my formula v2 wheel with podium shift module and the clutch levers mapped to throttle and brake, so I don't need pedals. The included clutch levers on the mclaren wheel can be used for the same purpose. For the majority of people pedals are required, but just something to note as a great option for those of us with limited mobility :)
Dude this is perfect, so many people are going down this path from a G29, thank you so much for this video!
2:45 only real men drive like this
at first I thought the DD was loose...
@@okeeedokeee I actually just noticed he isn't actually driving it's on replay
2:45 this is the hardest i've ever laughed at a youtube video, thank you
Thanks to you I bought the CSL Elite from a Logitech and loved it.
@@MegaIronica the only problem with that is the fact that the fanatec stuff can only arrive in November as of 9/09
@@MegaIronica You'll have to pay even more if you want a clutch compared to just some adapters.
Finally someone covered sound. Thanks a lot for the review. Looks like I’ll be picking one up by the end of the year.

How many rotation degrees it have?
@@andreschan5601 CSW V2.5 has a max of 900. CSL DD has 90-2520 in advanced settings.
My CSL DD and kit is on its way =) upgrading from a g920
Come back and let us know how you get on with it! You got the 5nm kit or the 8nm kit?
Waiting on my shifter, I didn't go with Fanatec because I wanted to set myself a budget and not blow it all in one sale, lol
I like to upgrade as I go, and it keeps me more attached to the Hobbie.
Oh!! And as for the load cell brake..
Messed with the force in their app and got it to where I felt I could manipulate and memorize the brake pressure.
100% did it for me, I'm super confident in low pump of the brakes now and keep the cars inertia as smooth as possible
It's definitely a huge game changer, lol
Completely true about more saturation of older bases showing up on the market. I picked up a CSW 2.5 for $200.
I started with G25 but broke down, bought G27 used both together for 20 years. But today I orderd a csl dd with load cell brake. Wanted it for a real long time. Now it's waiting til I wil receive the package cant wait.
Have you got you wheel already ?
@@Godzilla-si3mn yes placed the order and 5 days later it arrived
I’ve even put off getting a bass transducer setup because it’s almost like having one now.
rF2 the best, without doubt
I upgraded from a CSL elite to the 5nm version, also a major improvement here. Better FFB, smoother, more detail and enough strength for me.

How was it?

The shot at 2:50 of you using the fanatec DD as a wheel rim is fucking wonderful
It's actually censored in some countries, far too maverick
You can use the logitech pedals with fanatec gear. You use a Leo Bodnar usb adapter for Logitech G25, G27, G29, G920

Excellent analogies to help us understand the difference between the CSL Elite and new DD! Nice roundup.
There is proof that other PSU's in the range of 30-50€ work to unlock 8nm.

Finally a solid review instead of TH-camrs just trying to sell it so their affiliated links bring them money
My question is, is this worth the 2x price tag from a T300rs?
I say yeah, I had the t300rs and it started to show some wear. It still worked but I noticed it would move slightly out of place and I would have to nudge it back center. Also started making more noise.
I upgraded to a csl elite and like it a lot better. Would have got the csl DD if I was to upgrade from t300 now.
I spent a lot of hours on the t300 and was drifting so that probably contributed to the wear. DD wheels are more reliable also.
Got my rig and been using g29 from start as fanatec been sold out for months, ordered my fanatec yesterday with nm boost . Can't wait to try
Very good video.
For putting the tl;dr first alone, you deserve waaay more views :D
Perfect! Think you’ve made my decision to go from g29
They both fly and do the job they're designed for, but they're not in the same league.
u can get a full csl dd setup for around 620€ just saying. still not cheap but not close to 1100-1400 € >.
@@bO0mt0wn Please show me the page where you get that setup. I'd love to see it. But please make sure it's a set with 3 pedals and H patern shifter... coz that's what Logitech offers.
T300 is the best middle ground, almost as good as DD
It's well worth it,I'm from csl elite and it gives you so much more feel and a complete control over the car, less spinning and track limits under control.you get more consistent lap times without trying to hard.A must buy guys, you won't regret it for a second.
control.you
complete opposite for me, is there something wrong with my wheel? I spin out of control on the easiest turns which would never happen with a controller, it even oscillates on straightways where i have to fight the wheel to keep the car straight. real cars dont behave that way. something is not right.
Little late but hey ...
How does it feel from 6nm to 5nm or you buy the 8nm kit?
8nm 2years later
Can confirm, it was a massive step up and now i gotta get a new rig that does it justice. Just a matter of when not if as you said.....
I’ve begun to depend on your videos as i begin my journey into sim racing. Thank you for. your work
I've gone from a G920 to a CSL Elite just shy of a year ago. The wheelbase is leagues ahead with it force feedback, with the G920 you could barely feel any detail beyond a very weak simulation of holding cornering forces, but you can feel so much more with the CSL Elite.
will you upgrade to csl dd?

DVD to Bluray....that made things clearer 🤣This is a good way to explain the difference though.
dropping a like for a nice review, when i get my dd i’ll be coming here for the link to support. great video
Cheers man, thanks for dropping by! Appreciate you taking a sec to pocket the link, it really does make a big impact.
But fanatecs are just next level
awesome video, im upgrading from a g920 to your same setup, sadly I waited too long to order so I gotta wait until November. still very excited thou
Just ordered the $400 Ready2Race bundle and I can't wait for it to come in! Currently using a G920 so it's going to be a massive upgrade.
I am just about to do the same? How is it?? I think Im gonna get the WRC wheel for looks
5 years on a G29 so far. Can't wait to finally make this leap. Just upgraded to a set of CSL LC pedals and a wheel stand 2.0. DD base is next.
Interested in how you get on. I know you're in for a good'un
Looking to get one how is it and is the price worth it ?
I went from G923 to DD1 and I love it. The CSL DD will probably be great for those that can't afford the premium wheels. If you've got $500 get the CSL DD. Nothing beats Direct Drive.
Still need a wheel.
great vid man. im jumping from t300 to the dd pro. have to wait over 3mths tho, and my t300 servo jus packed in.
Cheers man! Ah mate that's bad/good timing...
great video man! as person who managed to use a logitech momo racing force for over 10 years upgrading to g29 didnt feel as a big improvement as only the functionality rose (more pedals, H pattern shifter and 900deg rotiation) but i got to the point where i feel that the wheel is limiting my progress in sim racing this was a very helpful review, now , when i can lash out a decent sum of money for a rig , CSL DD , and pedals, i will deffinitely get one.
Cheers mate, when that day comes you'll be over the moon, it's simply another world. Oh BOY, the Momo wheel. Memorieeeees!
we are in totally same situation now. I have 2 momo and never used another wheel system. I am looking to buy ts xw or dd
@@lothiradien7641 I'd say go for DD man!
It's been a great review. sincere and enlightening. thanks.
Pretty much what I wanted to hear, Thanks.
This is the type of review I was looking for!!! Awesome I’m gonna sub!
Awesome, thank you! Cheers for the kind comment
Most informative, been wondering about how much difference from my g29 set up ,Cheers mate excellent 👍
So many always complain or think anything under 12nm is a waste of time but a DD is all about the details given to the driver.
Amazing video! Thanks for the hard work.
Excellent review.
2:44 excellent work lol
2:44 I caught that. Very cheeky add in. Lol
@@mike617update I just ordered myself a CSL DD and McLaren GT3 V2 wheel rim for Christmas, can’t wait
I did the same thing. I'd read they sucked but I didn't realize just how bad the g29 pedals were until I felt the v3.
so how is the DD1? It’s been 1 month lol
@@vinivarella8508 I canceled the order of the dd1 and got the simucube 2 pro instead and its awesome
I had the G27 and just pulled the trigger on the GT DD Pro :)
Noice - come back and let us know what you think!
2:45 😂 nice one, man 😆
I Love the Chicago Pizza Reference!
Pre ordered mine will be shipped nov 11 😔😔can’t wait
'the DD is the blue ray version' and the simracing experience becomes more about muscle memory and feel as opposed to visual queues...
after upgrading from a G29 I agree 1000%!!!
