    The iPhone does have wide angle portraits and wide angle night portraits. You might want to go back over that part of the video. Absolutely huge slip up. It can be accessed on the portrait mode live view through tapping the little circle with the “3x” in the bottom left corner switching between the 1x and 3x lenses while retaining the portrait mode.

      True & sorry I overlooked that! It’s weird they move the zoom function in Portrait mode from directly above the shutter button. Pinning this so others see; I wish there were a better way to annotate videos.

    I am in no way a great photographer. I'm an IT security engineer (by trade) but I love photography. From an IT perspective, it would be a one-sided conversation, but photography skews the argument. I have an iPhone 13 Pro (work device) and a Pixel 6 Pro (personal device). The iPhone is a better video camera. Is it significantly better? No.........but the difference is noticeable. The Pixel is the better still photo shooter. Also, if you have 4 mins to spare, put the Pixel 6 Pro on a tripod and take a an astrophotography photo....and you will be amazed. Like all phone conversations though, you need to pick the one that works for you. This comes down to an Android vs iOS conversation. My employer will always give me an iPhone..........and I'll always buy a personal Android device. It really comes down to what works for you. Avoid looking at Geekbench scores, and get the phone that works for you. For the average user, almost any modern smartphone will take pictures and video that are 'good enough'.

    This has to be fake, right? The long exposure waterfall shot from the iPhone looks like you added a radial blur, then for the shooting into the sun shots both shots are from the iPhone just one is exposed to the sky and the other exposed to your face. Add to both of those the fact that you were just flat out wrong about the portrait mode on the iPhone and when it can be used. You also gave a point to the Pixel in the coffee shop cause the iPhone had too much dynamic range? Only thing I can agree on is the iPhone overprocessing portraits. This being Google's first major sensor change, I can only imagine it'll only get better with updates. It shoots phenomenal raw which is a great starting point

    • @Quoutub
      @Quoutub 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I have returned the Pixel 6 Pro because the noise reduction is more aggressive than previous Google phones and due to many other camera issues. And no, it's not the first major sensor change. Google's multi frame noise reduction HDR+ exists since 2013. Already in 2013 Google combined up to 10 raw files in its HDR+ On mode. Google has used many different sensors since 2013, even sensors from different manufacturers. For example, the selfie camera of the Google Nexus 5x has an Omnivision sensor and also used Google's HDR+. People try to find excuses for Google's mistakes. Google doesn't improve the camera with updates apart from special modes like Night Sight. For example, the Nexus 5x HDR+ On mode takes much better daylight photos than the Pixel 3a. In perfect light conditions it's even better than the Pixel 6 because the Pixel 6 suffers from aggressive noise reduction in perfect light conditions. Actually, Google makes the camera worse with updates. They removed the white balance presets of the Pixel 3a, they removed the ultra wide angle astrophotography mode of the Pixel 5, they decreased the low light image quality of the Nexus 5x, etc. And the Pixel 6 doesn't have the HDR+ enhanced mode of the Pixel 3. HDR+ enhanced is nothing else than a faster/sharper and more reliable Night Sight mode.

    I swapped from android to apple as i feel apples whole eco system is much smoother. So much so that i can live with any small differences in the cameras. Since using my iphone for photography and even ditching my sony mirrorless plus full frame canon as well as windows power pc. I am entirely focused on composition and story rather then stressing over technical details and whether photo are being uploaded or not or if my pc is gonna do another failed update during photo editing. These things apple has advantage over most other operating systems now. Not having to marry android to windows etc.everything is virtually seemless.
    So for me thats what makes the camera more desirable.

    I am a Professional photographer and have just bought the Pixel 6 Pro and can only compare it to my old Huawei which was brilliant.
    The images from this camera/phone are amazing. Not perfect by any means, but considering the sensor size and tiny lenses, very good results can be obtained.
    You did not mention the Pixel can take RAW files at the same time as JPG. After trying my best in Photoshop to process the RAW files and comparing them to Pixels own processing to JPG, I cannot better their work. This says a lot about their brilliant software. Normally I can always get better results from RAW files.
    I don't touch the 2X zoom because as you correctly state, it is not a true zoom. The 4X zoom is however brilliant and interestingly is also much better used as a portrait lens.
    You might want to check out the lock focus that is always on the screen in stills mode. We photographers always lock focus on the subject and re-frame the scene, but the Pixel has a small circle on the screen which you tap on the subject and it will lock on to that point and track it no matter how you frame the scene...brilliant!
    Have fun with your video testing. I have already tested mine and am very pleased with the results, in fact they are so good I will be using them in my Travel videos alongside my Professional gear.

      I have experience with an iPhone 13 Mini and with a Pixel 6 Pro. Apple's photographic styles are far less useful than Google's sliders. Apple's photographic styles consist of two sliders: an auto white balance slider and a "tone" slider. Google offers an auto white balance slider, too and it's much easier to use. Google also offers a shadows slider, which is far more useful than Apple's tone slider. Google's shadows slider lets you adjust whether you want an HDR look or not. In combination with the brightness slider, you can basically always avoid blown out highlights and still get a bright photo. Though there is an issue that the camera app often rather reduces the exposure time instead of the analog gain.
      The iPhone has the advantage that it can save a setting like -0.7 EV, whereas the Pixel resets this whenever you open the camera app or open a photo.

    Google Pixel 6 Pro users, do you also have this experience of too much contrast, shadow and texture/oversharpening, without being able to adjust the camerasettings? It's like the 6 Pro ads a filter after taking the picture, which makes it look way different. Backgrounds and faces are oversharpened and red tones are gone. In portretmode there is a hard line between person and background and you can't adjust the blur to make this less visible. Many people and sites recommend it as the smartphone with 'the best camera', so do I oversee any settings? If not, do you recommend another (android) phone for (portret)photo and video?

    So at the end of the day, which phone is going in your pocket? Because i doubt you’re getting phone just because it takes “better” pictures. The one Sony put out is really good. But let’s be honest, it’s the overall package that you’re going to buy. Software and other non camera features are why you buy a phone. For people that are into photography, they are going to have dedicated cameras and a phone that is good enough when they don’t have that camera.

He even gave a point to iPhone for magsafe lol. I will choose the pixel portrait for the colors since I am not zooming to look at edges

    A big Hello folk's from myself at the Giants Causeway here in Northern Ireland. I've been a great admirer of you two and the multiple reviews you have done over the past few year's and this review on the Pixel 6pro and iPhone 13 Pro max was brilliant as usual. Could I ask for your opinion on the Huawei p40 pro as a stills/night sight camera. I'm not concerned about the p40 pro not having googles operating system just what you think about its photo quality. I've just bought one for £200 and I'm very impressed but I'd like a professional opinion. Best wishes to you both and thank you for your time🍀❤️🍀👍😁

    For Canon EOS R - Landscape photography on a tripod at 24mm. Does it make sense to buy RF 24-70 or RF 24-105 L F4? I know that RF 24-70 is sharper at the corners. Does it have better contrast and color rendition? Does it make sense to spend so much more money on RF 24-70 over RF 24-105 L F4 for landscape at 24mm at F8? Basically, my question is - how big is the difference at 24mm at F8? Will I be able to tell the difference on a processed landscape RAW file on 55 inch LG CX OLED? Thank you.

    I like your video. But Tony, these comparisons just aren't relative for me, and I bet lots of other people too. I sooner switch all my lenes and cameras from my Nikon stable, to some other brand, than switch from iPhone to Android. There is so much else involved in a phone. Still it's fun to see the comparison, hoping of course, that my chosen device prevails!

    What a divisive video. The people who have iPhones are clearly upset and the ones who don't clearly feel like hell yeah. The only thing I can say is when professional photographers review the pixel, the pixel seems to come out better. When TH-camrs do the pixel gets criticized for showing too much at night?

    You gave like four points to the pixel for the same thing, a Long Exposure. Shouldn’t that just be one point? The whole comparison was done well but was very random. Instead of just going from feature to feature you would do multiple pictures using the same feature and award points. Like the long exposure point should’ve just been one point but instead you took multiple pictures and gave multiple points to pixel for the same feature. You didn’t even do any video recording either.

    Most reviewers give the edge to the smartphone that can get more details in the background while you don't really care of it's burned or whatever cause the most important think is the subject.
    I think just like you, but when you talk about shadows information and say that pixel is natural.... Not really. I couldn't take the blue color of my daughter eyes because of the overdark shadows of pixel photos in most scenarios.
    Overall, I prefer pixel, but hope they fix that because, for me, the eyes of my daughter are the best of the world and to miss that is to miss everything!
    Btw, what do you think about new iphone 14vs pixel 7?
    If pixel maintains same price... Will have definitely the edge!
    Thank you for this review! Professionals are professionals!

    The main advantage of the iPhone camera is that the night mode is much faster. The night mode of the 6 Pro takes up to approximately 7.5 seconds and often leads to blurry photos. Night Sight shouldn't take longer than 2 seconds (like the HDR+ On mode of the Google Nexus 5x, which was one of the first smartphone "night modes") and shouldn't use a longer exposure time per frame than 1/5s (like the HDR+ enhanced mode of the Pixel 3a).

    I had the much maligned Nexus 6P which was actually google's test-bed for the first generation pixel phones/camera/processing. That thing took better photos than 4 generations of Samsung phones that I've had since, including my Galaxy S21+. I should've waited for the Pixel 6.

    • @anthonywilliams9415
      @anthonywilliams9415 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Loved the Nexus 6P

    • @Quoutub
      @Quoutub 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't Google's test-bed, it was Google's flagship! HDR+ even exists since 2013. I have a Nexus 5x, which has the same camera and the camera with Google camera version 3.x was simply fantastic in its HDR+ On mode, which can be used all the time. I bought the Pixel 3a, but the camera is a huge disappointment in comparison with the Nexus. Only the low light image quality is better thanks to the HDR+ enhanced mode, which is better than Night Sight. Otherwise, the camera is worse, mostly due to the worse white balance.
      So, I have bought a Pixel 6 Pro and the auto white balance is much better than the Pixel 3a (but still worse than the Nexus sometimes), but it suffers from aggressive noise reduction (even in perfect light conditions), there are occasionally artifacts in the raw files, it often chooses 4x digital zoom, it doesn't have HDR+ enhanced and there are further camera issues, so I have returned the Pixel 6 Pro. It's the most interesting camera since the Nexus, but the Nexus doesn't suffer from aggressive noise reduction in perfect light conditions, so I still prefer the Nexus camera.
