Sleeping Dogs was/is one of the most underrated games that I absolutely love!! One small detail many miss is you can stop criminals from stealing purses and return them like in GTA V but there is no icon on the minimap showing it occur. You just need to listen closely and look out for it. Oh also there is a designated walking button so you can just walk around and enjoy the ambience of the night market.

Honestly, as a fan of sandbox games I've always found the term "GTA clone" as bit of a complement.
I've always loved the GTA franchise, to the point where I'd play any game where I can drive cars in an open map (and being able to step out and use weapons makes it kind of a bonus), and quite frankly I'd take GTA clones over linear walking simulators, horror games, and Dark Souls clones (no, I don't hate DS for the difficulty, I'm just not a fan of the setting), but that's just me.

I honestly have a soft spot for this game. I love GTA-style games as well as action games in general.
And while it surely has some jank, there's some charm to the cheesiness factor.
And quite frankly, I prefer more silly action games like this, as well as other action-oriented titles like Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions, Stuntman: Ignition, the Army of Two games, etc.
Sure, while there are better stuff out there and I get that most games these days are trying to be as artistic as the best movies out there.
And that's all well and good, I prefer a game like True Crime over The Last of Us.
This is mostly preference, but I prefer the bombastic action movie over the melodramatic awards bait.

These reviews are good, but I feel the reviewer never pays much attention to the npcs and the atmosphere of the world, like if it feels like a real breathing world, you have to give that to gta IV over V, and saints row 2 over 3. I dunno I know gameplay is important but in an open world game it’s not everything. He kinda touches on it but maybe he just doesn’t care about that.

It was fun at time's but on Xbox it was impossible to complete due to a bug in a vital boss fight, I had it on PS2 and that mission was almost impossible but apparently possible, needless to say when I enjoyed it was just patrolling the streets NYC and seeing what madness I could cause, sometimes rampaging in True Crime NY was better than GTA SA!, I honestly said that.

that game is a bit more RPG.. since you had to be good cop or you won't progressing... and no auto aim... this game is fun with endless shooting... hence why i found hard to play game that don't let me shoot a lot of bullet... it not as fun...

    • @mrpickle-pe2in

campkira what do you mean “you have to be good cop or you won’t progressing” that doesn’t sound like an RPG to me. I could be interpreting that wrong but I liked it because I played both and found true crime NY to play better than LA because I didn’t struggle as much as I did with LA’s combat system. You could see him struggling to tackle criminals but me playing NY as a child I found the crime aspect easier, driving felt better too as well as navigating.

Really love the video! I don't know if it was the young me, but beating the general on the skyscraper rooftop got me furious tons of times. It actually seemed impossible to me. When you said it was based on luck most of the times, I truly believe you haha. Lucky combo's and being fortunate enough not to be hit or grabbed by the general were the times that got me the closest. I just watched somebody finish the game on TH-cam, since I figured I was never going to finish it myself. Might try it again soon!

What I remember as being pretty fun about this game was getting in a police cruiser (or another car with lights and sirens), pull up behind a random vehicle and turn on the lights. Then handcuff the driver, followed by a search of the trunk without proper cause. I mean for a game that was "only" 10 years removed from Rodney King, you have to say it was pretty realistic for LAPD. 😆
