GUN has always been one of my favorite games. As an adult I finally realized how many famous actors were in it too, no wonder I always felt like it was a movie as a kid
I never realized people like Hoodoo Brown were real. As a kid I was shocked by the violence and realism, and as an adult I'm shocked by the historical accuracy and production value
@@Merit16 not really. If you can make a movie like that nowadays then a game like this could be remade and whether it happens or not developers have a choice to tone it down or just remove it if they choose to. A lot of remastered games have done that as well.
Such a good game right? There really aren't any bad missions, I just wanted more of them! Must've completed the game over 8 times by now, one can still hope they revive the IP someday 🤞🏼
After almost 20 years since my last Gun gameplay, it feels like i dreamt of all these places from the game when i was a kid, almost as if i've been there myself.
I played this on PS2 back in 2005 ish when I found myself living at my grandma's house whilst I was broke and inbetween jobs. The voice acting, the story telling and the world building, albeit on a limited physics engine for its time made this game so great. It had a lot of heart and soul and you could tell the designers really loved this project. It really felt like a proper good vs evil western epic.
I'm in disbelief at how great this game is. The attention to detail is absalutley ahead of it's time and I had never heard of it. This game is almost as old as me and has features today's games could learn from! Great video also. Very informative. You deserve more subscribers!
man...just that snip of Outlaws sent a wave of nostalgia. I loved it, watched my dead play it. It looked incredibly difficult, especially the maze like Sawmill level. Played it as an adult, never really was difficult, but the nostalgia and the feeling stayed with me. Love it, love the animation, story.. everything.
I remember my brother getting GUN brand new when I was 7 and he let me play it and it became one of my all time favorite games even to this day. I still own that copy too. 😁

Gun and Call of Juarez were always my favorites. I always felt Gun was way ahead of it's time, especially as you noted in the story/writing/casting, loved seeing the concept art, I dont think I'd seen those before!

I know how much people love RDR2, but there was something really special about Gun. I can't even remember how many times I played it over again. The voice acting cast, the writing, the soundtrack, and even the game play for that era was incredible! I never enjoyed RDR2 the same way that I found Gun satisfying. It's a shame they never did a sequel or a remake. It's way over due!

I loved this game back in the day, and always thought it deserved a sequel. Honestly probably one of my top 15 favorite PS2 games, which may not sound impressive until you realize how many absolute gems were on PS2.

I loved this game so much. The story, the soundtrack, and the gameplay were so perfect. I rented it so many times that the local movie store owner gave it to me LOL. I can’t believe it hasn’t been remade yet. I would buy a modern remake of this game in a heartbeat! I recently replayed it on PC and it’s just as good as I remember from my childhood.

Absolutely loved playing Gun. Yes, just about every part of the story is taken from other movies, but in my opinion it makes it like a "Western's greatest hits movie" that you can actually play. I finished it a few times. I was disappointed by Call Of Juarez. In a world without Red Dead, this is the best Western game ever.

This game absolutely blew my mind when I first played it. It was the first game I’d ever played that had that much dialogue and story. And damn was the voice acting incredible. I’d never seen real actors doing videogame VO either. The story was top class. I’d love to see a remake but everything kept as is, apart from a graphics and animation update.

I started playing gun in 2012. amazing game. amazing soundtrack. memorable characters, drama. It had it all. so many hidden dialogues and secrets (listen to the enemies on the prison break mission) And just like gta, conterversy followed. Some indian group chased after guns producers because "native americans are not positivly represented" even though most of the main segments of the game involved them. I really want to see the day when GUN 2 Comes out. you know there was love involved with this project, and I want more.

Great video on it. I honestly played this for the first time last years, since i ignored it during the PS2 days god knows why. This game is amazing for it's time and it's so well writte, well acted and it has a satisfying gameplay that really kept me engaged until the end. With a proper remake the game would be killer. I just love these compact worlds with a lot of activities to do around. I just wish you talked more about the minigames. I specially liked the hunting and sheriff ones. Though they are a bit underdeveloped compared to the rest, i liked them anyway. Another video you could make is on the Call of Juarez games BTW.

Thanks! The Punisher was awesome as well, I played both a lot in middle school. Also, The Punisher movie from 2004 is a great portrayal of the character! Love the diner scene where the hitman plays the song "In Time". And i'm glad I could provide some new insights on GUN for you! Maybe i'll dive into the Punisher game some time :)

Jane basically fought for the move to have a more "taxi driver" feel to it lmao. I still love that film anyways.
@@titiadamoita5630 Travolta's portrayal of the bad guy was so over the top and really fun. I get what Jane meant though, the movie is a bit of a mixed bag in terms of tone. The short he did later on called "Dirty Laundry" captured more of what he was talking about i feel. But I still love the 2004 movie despite it's shortcomings!
I was a child when I used to play this. I wasn't able to understand English that time but still I managed to understand 70% of story. And oh.. boy It was my dream to get Reed's horse 🐎 when I finished @100% it's just popped up and blew my mind. I used to glitch myself at the starting point of the game to unlock a secret menu to replay missions. And I can't forget this line "Welcome to my domain kid"
I replayed this game two years ago and it still holds up today. Truly a hidden gem. I don't know how well known this game is in the US, but here in EU it's relativelly unknown.
Now that I think about it, I was more open to trying random games as a kid even with less money. Im glad this was one of those random games I decided to grab one day.

It's crazy and nostalgic because as a 30 year old adult i have no recollection of how I got GUN, i didn't have the money to buy it and my parents surely didn't pay for it, but it ended up in my possession and I put in at the very least 100 hours into the game and still have my ps2 copy to this day, it was amazing and when red dead redemption came out I was all to willing to buy it, the memories and nostalgia is all to real, a sequel to gun I really think would be welcome buy its fans, it has almost a cult following at this point

To this day, I don’t know why I love GUN as much as I do. Played it a lot as a kid, probably shouldn’t have. When proving ground had the poster and I didn’t really know that never soft wasn’t really making games anymore I had high hopes that it would eventually be made. Wonderful video! I remember playing this game in winter with my cousins. We were sitting on the floor in front of the tv, and literally felt like cowboys. We then became obsessed about getting a whisky flask lol
Great video. I'm gonna be honest, I have a habit of judging videos by their view count, and if I did that to this video I would have not watched it. Luckily, I forgot to even glance once at the view count, and I watched the video in one go til the end. Really well done. I know gaming retrospective videos are becoming more and more saturated, but I have a feeling you'll make it big this year.
What a great video this brings back great memories especially the story l remember the story Gun had such a great storyline l remember the last Boss Battle was tricky the boss would throw sticks of dynamite at you in Order to damage his health bar you would have to time when he would throw the stick of dynamite at you and just before he threw the dynamite at you you would have to pop up and shoot the dynamite in his hand before he threw at you and blow him up and every time you blew him up a large chunk of his life bar would go down this was tricky to do because it took exact timing to do and it also took practice to get it down pact l told my friend what to do but he tried and tried but couldn’t get the timing down and just gave up and never beat the last boss l was able to do it but it took practice to do it
Gun was a fantastic game. A truly underrated gem. Sad that a lot of people don't know about it. That last mission in the goldmine always stuck with me, even after all these years.
I remember when it came out. My dad and I both got a copy and would compare notes and share tales of our adventures. It was awesome. I also remember the Native American controversy. It was huge and it always surprised me that the game made it to light anyway. Sure couldn’t make this today. Great video and wonderful research!

I like both GUN and RDR1 better than RDR2 because of the more violent tone and the shooting gameplay. RDR2 was not as fun for me sadly.

True! But revolver had more of a spaghetti western feel and wasn't open world. GUN plays much closer to the more recent RDR games.

I started playing gun in 2012. amazing game. amazing soundtrack. memorable characters, drama. It had it all. so many hidden dialogues and secrets (listen to the enemies on the prison break mission)
And just like gta, conterversy followed.
Some indian group chased after guns producers because "native americans are not positivly represented" even though most of the main segments of the game involved them.
I really want to see the day when GUN 2 Comes out. you know there was love involved with this project, and I want more.

Great video on it. I honestly played this for the first time last years, since i ignored it during the PS2 days god knows why. This game is amazing for it's time and it's so well writte, well acted and it has a satisfying gameplay that really kept me engaged until the end. With a proper remake the game would be killer. I just love these compact worlds with a lot of activities to do around.
I just wish you talked more about the minigames. I specially liked the hunting and sheriff ones. Though they are a bit underdeveloped compared to the rest, i liked them anyway.

Gun was awesome, I bought this game dirt cheap at Game Stop and had never heard of it so went in with no expectations. I loved it. A remake or remaster would give RDR2 a run for its money.
Beautiful video! One of my fav ps2 games. I love the fact that Thomas Jane voiced the main character, who also voiced The Punisher, which is also one my fav games.

Thanks! The Punisher was awesome as well, I played both a lot in middle school. Also, The Punisher movie from 2004 is a great portrayal of the character! Love the diner scene where the hitman plays the song "In Time".

@@GameTalesHQ oh, please do! and yes, that movie is so good! But i do wonder how it would turn out if they hadn't stick with Travolta as the villain (they had to film in florida instead of New York). Jane basically fought for the move to have a more "taxi driver" feel to it lmao. I still love that film anyways.
@@titiadamoita5630 Travolta's portrayal of the bad guy was so over the top and really fun. I get what Jane meant though, the movie is a bit of a mixed bag in terms of tone. The short he did later on called "Dirty Laundry" captured more of what he was talking about i feel. But I still love the 2004 movie despite it's shortcomings!
I was a child when I used to play this. I wasn't able to understand English that time but still I managed to understand 70% of story. And oh.. boy It was my dream to get Reed's horse 🐎 when I finished @100% it's just popped up and blew my mind.
I used to glitch myself at the starting point of the game to unlock a secret menu to replay missions. And I can't forget this line "Welcome to my domain kid"
I replayed this game two years ago and it still holds up today. Truly a hidden gem. I don't know how well known this game is in the US, but here in EU it's relativelly unknown.
EASILY the most underrated game of all time. When I played this I was shocked at just how perfect it was

My parents bought me gun when It came out as a birthday gift when I turned 17. I played through it several times. It’s brilliant.
I remember playing this. It was good while it lasted. After finishing the story, there wasn't much to do.
I still have this for PS2 and Steam.
This is such an underrated game! I loved this one and would love to see it get a sequel or reboot.
I can see now that it was written by a film writer, this game made me fall in love with westerns as a kid and I only watched my cousin play all the way through

Still own this game. I loved it as a kid. I wish they would remaster and potentially remake it and add a bunch of new content. Amazing game but i wish there was more.

It's crazy and nostalgic because as a 30 year old adult i have no recollection of how I got GUN, i didn't have the money to buy it and my parents surely didn't pay for it, but it ended up in my possession and I put in at the very least 100 hours into the game and still have my ps2 copy to this day, it was amazing and when red dead redemption came out I was all to willing to buy it, the memories and nostalgia is all to real, a sequel to gun I really think would be welcome buy its fans, it has almost a cult following at this point

To this day, I don’t know why I love GUN as much as I do. Played it a lot as a kid, probably shouldn’t have. When proving ground had the poster and I didn’t really know that never soft wasn’t really making games anymore I had high hopes that it would eventually be made.

Plenty of kudos to GameTalesHQ for putting together such a compelling, well documented retrospective. More people need to acknowledge GUN as well as other illustrious Old West games that helped minting the gold standard the Red Dead series is known for.
GUN was my temporary haven while I waited for RD1. Can you imagine how me and many other's felt when RD2 was announced! Ah, takes me back😢
I remember playing this game in winter with my cousins. We were sitting on the floor in front of the tv, and literally felt like cowboys. We then became obsessed about getting a whisky flask lol

I'll never forget the penultimate cutscene in this game. To say it was unexpected would be an understatement.
This was the first game I finished 100%. All the achievements unlocked. I LOVED that game, it was just too damn good.
Great video. I'm gonna be honest, I have a habit of judging videos by their view count, and if I did that to this video I would have not watched it. Luckily, I forgot to even glance once at the view count, and I watched the video in one go til the end. Really well done. I know gaming retrospective videos are becoming more and more saturated, but I have a feeling you'll make it big this year.

What a great video this brings back great memories especially the story l remember the story Gun had such a great storyline l remember the last Boss Battle was tricky the boss would throw sticks of dynamite at you in Order to damage his health bar you would have to time when he would throw the stick of dynamite at you and just before he threw the dynamite at you you would have to pop up and shoot the dynamite in his hand before he threw at you and blow him up and every time you blew him up a large chunk of his life bar would go down this was tricky to do because it took exact timing to do and it also took practice to get it down pact l told my friend what to do but he tried and tried but couldn’t get the timing down and just gave up and never beat the last boss l was able to do it but it took practice to do it

Gun was a fantastic game. A truly underrated gem. Sad that a lot of people don't know about it. That last mission in the goldmine always stuck with me, even after all these years.
I remember when it came out. My dad and I both got a copy and would compare notes and share tales of our adventures. It was awesome. I also remember the Native American controversy. It was huge and it always surprised me that the game made it to light anyway. Sure couldn’t make this today. Great video and wonderful research!

I loved GUN Showdown on PSP it was so much fun, and was more of a Red Dead Redemption game than Red Dead Revolver.
