As a New Yorker I can say this game is surprisingly accurate in its recreation of NYC. It absolutely captures the feel and look of the city better than any other game besides GTA IV. This is the only game I've ever been able to actually find buildings I've lived in before and they even included Washington Heights and Inwood which vital parts of Manhattan but always get the shiaft from video games. Even the subway stations are where they actually are in real life. Classic game!
I do find it funny somewhat though that some people have said "they perfectly mapped new York i can see my house!" Its ridiculous and doesn't come close to mapping the city accurately. Most of the streets are copied and pasted throughout the entire map. None of them are original or close to being anything near the real thing I don't get why some people lie to try and pretend they can see their house etc lol its obviously not true
@jaycuthbert245 not lying at all. If you're from Upper Manhattan you know that it's 80% 6-story pre-war buildings. Yeah the buildings in the game did not look exactly like they did in real life but I definitely could find the corresponding building to places I used to live. Plus many of the smaller details like park benches, subway stations, elevated train lines, traffic islands, etc. were just surprisingly accurate in that game. No reason to make this up.
This one was way more atmospheric than True Crime Streets of L.A. When i started out driving down a snowy New York street with Bobby Womack coming out of the speakers, i felt like i was briefly in a Quentin Tarantino type crime movie. Sadly, nothing reached these heights again in this game...but it was still really fun✌

@@wxrlord Pretty sure if any one does...it's collecting dust in a broken ps2, attic, or undiscovered beneath endless school projects collected from their childhood 😉 too be a kid again..especially with how immersive and long games are now.
Oh man...the memories of playing it back in 2005-2008. I used to play this whenever I go to my cousin's since he has the PS2. Playing the game into late night was fun, tiring and also atmospheric to me.
I somehow actually enjoyed playing this more than streets of la, not that it's a bad game or anything but its an improvement in every single way, ranging from more weapons, variety and especially fighting (which is the one thing i really hated, most of these sections is about luck rather than challenge and strategy)
Fun Fact: Breath of the Wilds map is as large as Manhattan. And that was clearly a good map so if a studio wanted to do a full recreation of manhattan today they probably could
I remember getting this game on boxing day the same year it came out. I fell in love with it as I did with true crime streets of la. Some of the controls and mechanics were horrendous (largely due to it being a rushed unfinished game) but I still had a hell of time playing it.
I think the best part about this game is the accurate layout of New York. I had a trip to New York City as a kid and played this game before and after. It was really funny how well I knew the streets and seeing parks and churches that are in the game and real life are very neat! Disappointed in the amount of Puma store in real life NYC 😂
There's a debug menu glitch, idk if it's in the Xbox or GameCube version tho. On the map screen you put in cheats with l1 and r1. Hit right just before you hit l1 and r1 at the same time. The map screen and music menu should be mixed together. Then just push left, and you basically have a cheat menu.
Man I sunk sooooo many hours into this on my PS2, wasn't a perfect game but I enjoyed the time spent on it. Really enjoyed the soundtrack as well all New York artists 💿🎧🎶 Hunting down crimes to Nas and Misfits!! 🤘🤘

I know if i would have had access to this game when i was younger it would have been one of my all time favorites, as a younger kid I never did story missions, rather just driving around the map for hours and hours on end - i feel like this game would have excelled at that for me.
So glad you reviewed this, absolutely loved this a kid getting to play as a police officer. It seems you know how to tap into that nostalgia just right
Spenny! I got my disabled ass a work from home job today! (after being made redundant months ago thanks to covid). Thanks for all the content you put out that made my sorry ass less depressed until i found employment!
I remember messing around the debug mode on the GameCube version. As well as the Redman Gone Wild mode. I still prefer Streets of L.A, but NYC is pretty fun in its own right.
Yesssss! THANK you. I grew up trying to get through the bugs in this game haha. But if you got the minigun, you could spam the slow motion ability and go on a rampage against the police

This was the first crime game i had as a kid I remember my dad wouldn’t let me have any crime games… at all even when i was 12 and GTA 5 came out… even when i was 14 and i had Mafia 2 he threw it away 😭🤦🏾 but when i was about 8 i was looking through the livingroom and we had this huge wooden chest selves thingy and i found this game and a few other for my ps2 i feel in love with it once i booted it up everything from the graphics to the little details like being able to go into pharmacies it was just perfect to me maybe thats just nostalgia talking tho. This game for me has heavily influenced the type of games that rank as my favorite from games like RDR 1 and 2 to games that I consider masterpieces like Sleeping Dogs and Watch Dogs 1 and 2 lowkey im hella grateful for sneaking in the dead of night because i was bored of playing Winnie the Poos Honey Adventure and stumbled upon this game instead❤️
I played this for hours!! I only done 3/4 missions the whole time I played. I just ran around arresting people and doing beat cop work lol. I’d love a remake or reboot of this and no sleeping dogs doesn’t count.
I found this bug in the GameCube version, where there’s a window after you get in the car with a gun equipped where you can switch to a weapon of choice, so I could fire a rocket launcher while driving. It’s been forever though and I don’t really remember much else about how to do it
I remember like it was yesterday, playing this game felt like taking a deep breath from NYC air ,realistic and a good story ,sometimes i fell like want to buy again a ps2 just for this game....
Loved this game. There was a glitch on my Xbox that was almost game breaking; when you wrestle the big dude on the raised construction piece. You had to press the white and black buttons together or something lol. Still love and miss it.
Amazing that these games were exciting back in the day as far as open worlds were concerned, and now we're soon to experience Cyberpunk 2077. Gaming has jumped incredibly.
I wanted to love this game, but I’d always get a few missions into it and every time there’d be a game breaking bug which wouldn’t let me carry on. I always enjoyed the bits I did get to play, wish I could’ve actually played it.
We used Google Maps and fed that data into the game to make 100% accurate street maps for True Crime LA and NYC. For NY I got to direct Darth Maul (AKA) Ray Parks to do all the mocap for fighting styles you could buy. TC2 was a sequel to TC1, but at the last second Activision had us change the main character based on focus testing making us redo all the cinematics before launch.
I know this game before it existed because of the magazines we read back in 2005. But I wasn't able to play until last summer. A friend of mine got a copy of it, and I wanted him to show me the game, but it was broken... Anyway, he told me the game was not as good as its predecessor. And later I heard bad reviews of it... I found a very cheap copy in a pawn shop this summer. I said to me: this is it. Its the time to try this game for once... No matter if its good or bad, I want to try it. Then I completed it, and all I can say is that I love it! It has its flaws, but I had a very low expectation, so that's why I have enjoyed it so much. That much, that I wanted to go for the 100%. It's definetly one of my favourites for the PS2.
This game was my favorite growing up. I loved everything about it except like 1 boss fight. All the cool unlockables and upgrades for your driving ability and the lethal vs non lethal places you can shoot people
True crime really do got a special place in my heart ... Was it perfect ... Nah .... But i felt it had potential..... I enjoyed my time with it and if given the opportunity right now ... I'd play it again 💯
Good thing you didn’t do the Xbox version because there is a game breaking bug when you fight tommy in the triad. You get not even a split second to do a button I order to win and eventually your stamina depletes meaning you’ll lose Oooh, I just reached the part of the video where you mentioned it
The Tommy Glitch for the Xbox was a hell of a curb to overcome. My brother and I both got the game and hit that same glitch, turns out you actually CAN bypass the thing by doing the mother-of-all button-mashing massacres on your controller by forcing it to the floor and having 2 hands mash like your life depended on it. It took 15 minutes of mashing to get past it on my brothers XBOX but neither of us could do it on mine despite doing so for over 20 minutes. I shared that bit of info with some friends at school and one dude mentioned it took him half an hour of that and his hands hurt like hell all weekend lol
Loved this game as a kid. Still have my original copy and original save file on GameCube. I remember there being hype around Snoop Dogg being in the L.A. version, it always killed me inside that I never got to play it lol. Great vid.
For me this game was a budget GTA 4. Consoles in Brazil are expensive so by the time I got a Ps2, the Ps3 and GTA 4 had already been launched, so there was nothing for me to do but to wonder how it was to play the latest Rockstar Title. Then I found this and had a blast with friends despite the clunky controls.
In the LA review you made a mention towards Star Wars Demolition. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU. I LOVED IT. I remember for years on my dreamcast I would dominate at that game between my friends and I. So because you hit my nostalgic bone. (You always do) I got it out the closet. Last time I played it I think I may have been 12. I'm 30 now. I loved the hidden Droid, monsters or ships the map hides that you can use against enemies like the ghost on yavin, swamp monster on dagobah, missiles on mos isles, yeti on hoth and the glowing balls on naboo just to name a few. But after playing for over 20 minutes with a few friends I really noticed again why some people hated it. Controls or not seeing the whole map. My one friend just couldn't figure it out always falling in the sarlac pit and man the lasers are garbage you end up holding down the charge on weapons over and over just to do any real damage. But then it made me fall in love again with the combos you can do like the tractor beam with the rancor then picking you up and throwing you into the death star weapons. Forget I said anything bad I love this game. I wish you would do a indepth review of this game and history like all your other great reviews i enjoy. Hope you have a great rest of 2020. Keep coming out with great videos and cheers from cleveland, Ohio. GO BROWNS

They all looks the same though. The illusion gone for me after an hour. I've seen everything and the city feels dead after that.

I remember the controls being absolutely terrible when I rented this from hollywood video 😬😰
does anyone have it on PS2? if so, am i the only one that has the delayed ass driving where i try to turn any direction in a car and the game registers my input like half a second later? like it’s got such a jarring ass delay that i can’t bring myself to even touch the game, which is a shame since i loved it as a kid and actually want to play it
@@wxrlord Pretty sure if any one does...it's collecting dust in a broken ps2, attic, or undiscovered beneath endless school projects collected from their childhood 😉 too be a kid again..especially with how immersive and long games are now.
Oh man...the memories of playing it back in 2005-2008. I used to play this whenever I go to my cousin's since he has the PS2. Playing the game into late night was fun, tiring and also atmospheric to me.
"What about my....kids!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣that line was everywhere
Meanwhile there's no kid in the game, must be average lying criminal, lol
I somehow actually enjoyed playing this more than streets of la, not that it's a bad game or anything but its an improvement in every single way, ranging from more weapons, variety and especially fighting (which is the one thing i really hated, most of these sections is about luck rather than challenge and strategy)
One of the best video game i have ever played.
I have ended this game 3 times.
And i still hope activision continue this franchise again.
Thank you to all the fans who recommended color to review this gem that I played so many years ago. Cant wait for Sleeping Dogs review.
I have just been looking for recent reviews of this about 20 mins ago then suddenly this beauty pops up 🤓😂
No you didn’t stop lying
Has he done the getaway: Black Monday yet?
@UnjustifiedRecs Hell yeah. Really enjoyed that game just as The Getaway.
Black Monday was good, but I preferred the original "The Getaway"
Love your reviews.
Can't wait for the next one.
B gg NBC I lbbs sad never

The voice acting is amazing already noticed fishburn and Walken who played in king of New York one of the best gangster movies ever
I love when old games like this recieve a very modern review. Nice one 👍
Man I sunk sooooo many hours into this on my PS2, wasn't a perfect game but I enjoyed the time spent on it.
Really enjoyed the soundtrack as well all New York artists 💿🎧🎶
Hunting down crimes to Nas and Misfits!! 🤘🤘
glad that you are back with the reviews, dude.
After 13 years I finally managed to buy this game again. Just how I remember it
I was so addicted to this game been a black street cop was just so much fun to play it's a well liked classic I wish more game's where like this and the sound track was so good as well a lot of people loved it a good all-round classic for sure love your videos Bro keep it up your game reviews are done really well and you don't rip games too bit's like some people a true gamer likes all games not just the best ones there are so many underrated games out there that people just forget about it's not perfect what game is got more pros than con's I liked how the street name sign's tell you which way the one way street Go a nice touch if ask me
Thanks for reviewing this. I always wanted to know about this game.
A game doesn't have to be perfect it just has to be fun to play, and that's what the true crime series was.
Congratulations my man. Youre THE MAN when it comes to wanting to re live past nostalgia through watching old game play of our beloved games we played as children. Youll never know just how much this type of stuff and content means to people like me going through several tough times in life. Life is very unfair and rough for yours truely currently. it is just nice to be able to escape through your lengthy and indepth videos.
What i ment by congrats dude is wherever now i search whatever game review then your content (if ofcourse youve reviewed and played the game im searching for) you come first on youthbe! before everyone and no one deserves the recommendation that you my friend. A true meaningful and detailed review on every single video long may it continue sir.
This was the first crime game i had as a kid I remember my dad wouldn’t let me have any crime games… at all even when i was 12 and GTA 5 came out… even when i was 14 and i had
Mafia 2 he threw it away 😭🤦🏾 but when i was about 8 i was looking through the livingroom and we had this huge wooden chest selves thingy and i found this game and a few other for my ps2 i feel in love with it once i booted it up everything from the graphics to the little details like being able to go into pharmacies it was just perfect to me maybe thats just nostalgia talking tho.
This was amazing on PS2, I got stuck on the roundhouse kick in the tutorial until one day I was able to do it Lmao oh the nostalgia
I had literally never heard of these games, and it's a real shame I missed out on experiencing them when they released
This just gave me an unexpected flashback to a particular moment in my childhood
So good to see another review!! I tune in to every one, enjoy the way you do things. Keep up the grouse work mate!
It took me 10 years to find out this game had two different endings lmao
Loved this game. There was a glitch on my Xbox that was almost game breaking; when you wrestle the big dude on the raised construction piece. You had to press the white and black buttons together or something lol. Still love and miss it.
I hope the Patreon crew is requesting Burnout Revenge, seriously, it's like they just have a thing for 3 and only 3. 🤔
And Burnout Paradise because it fits in with the open world genre he usually reviews
This game was so awesome! It felt authentic. An all time favorite!
Amazing that these games were exciting back in the day as far as open worlds were concerned, and now we're soon to experience Cyberpunk 2077. Gaming has jumped incredibly.
I mean it has been a decade and a half.
And cyberpunk looked worse than this on ps4!!!!!! This was ps2!!
Getting a little hyperbolic, my man.
If in 2005 I bought a game that was unplayable i would have been just as mad as it happening today
Yeah that’s not what you said though.
The Intro was so good. Loved this game.
The cheats made this really fun as a kid
I wanted to love this game, but I’d always get a few missions into it and every time there’d be a game breaking bug which wouldn’t let me carry on. I always enjoyed the bits I did get to play, wish I could’ve actually played it.
It was on Xbox and I didn’t even get to reach the bug mentioned in this video.
Good thing you didn't lol. I had it on Xbox too and that part fuckin killed me. It took me hours to get through just that part.
Man seeing this makes me sad, reminds me of when times were good. I LOVED this game. I used to love going round in uniform clearing up the city
Same feeling here bro
It's definetly one of my favourites for the PS2.
this might just be the best game i have ever played its been a long long time man im glad i found it again ..
Ladies and gentleman... He's back 😎
This game was my favorite growing up.
Damn, I remember playing this and true crime streets of LA when I was younger on the original Xbox. They were really good, especially for the time.
i loved this game because of the gun play and how you switched to figting really fast
Good thing you didn’t do the Xbox version because there is a game breaking bug when you fight tommy in the triad. You get not even a split second to do a button I order to win and eventually your stamina depletes meaning you’ll lose
Oooh, I just reached the part of the video where you mentioned it
The Tommy Glitch for the Xbox was a hell of a curb to overcome.
Hearing the commentary about the AI for people driving their cars in game made me think "Sounds like they nailed how New Yorkers drive"
Loved this game as a kid. Still have my original copy and original save file on GameCube. I remember there being hype around Snoop Dogg being in the L.A. version, it always killed me inside that I never got to play it lol. Great vid.
Today I ordered the True Crime games for my PS2. Can't wait to play them! I liked New York back then.
I remember back in the day I traded GTA Liberty City Stories for this game. Totally worth it
Fun fact: Lieutenant Dixon's voice actor, Mariska Hargitay, also plays as Olivia Benson in Law and Order: SVU
Back when they made games to be games and not television show simulators.
GO BROWNS
