I returned to it because i always thought the hong kong setting was cool. I gave it some time and then i loved it. I don't think i've ever changed my opinion so much about a game as this one.
Great game. Shame there's no sequel. As someone born and raised in HK there were 3 aspects they could've implemented that they probably couldn't have in the first game. HKs verticality, the MTR and more of the outer new territories area, towards the border of Shenzen. Maybe a mission to Macao too.
Actually this game was going to be its own before True Crime. It was called Black Lotus, a title I personally think is better. Anyway, when Activision took over publishing they wanted to market it as a game that all ready some clout, instead of launching it as a new IP. So they made it a True Crime game. So originally, it was never supposed to be True Crime game.
I actually revisited this one month ago to get the platinum (eazyyyy). I knew that it wasn't a super popular game, but I thought that it was respected among all the gamers. Reading these comments, I guess it actually was kind of a gem. It was a very fun experience nonetheless
For me, Wei Shen was a happy departure from the somewhat tiring hijinks of Nick Kang from the L.A. game; Wei Shen's more my speed for sure. I ended up getting attached to Winston (which surprised me; Peggy was cool too), enjoyed the wisdom of Uncle Po, I considered Broken Nose Jiang smart & prudent, Jackie was fun, Pendrew, Raymond, Ricky...REALLY liked the characters here. Hong Kong was fun for me to explore, I liked both the main & side missions (I liked getting those statues/praying at the Health Shrines especially), music (Martha and The Muffins! XTC! Siouxie and the Banshees! ) and the overall vibe of the game. It was a habit of mine to play "Sleeping Dogs", it helped me pass the time...oh, my job wasn't very boring playing a good cop (thanks to those Big Brother camera side missions:-) who I honestly felt was a great gangster. I guess one thing I didn't like so much were the outfits that were in Wei Shen's closet but locked until Wei acquired more face experience. Fine, but I would've preferred for that space to be blank, then uncovered after face experience was reached, or for them not to be in the closet at all.
I loved this game so much when I first played it, very refreshing, thank you for the review! I recently got the Definitive Edition for my PS4, might give it a shot someday. The only issue I had with the game was driving, really made playing it annoying at times. Also, 19:03 that guy went flying!
Such a fun game. The combat was pretty addictive to me, and the Zodiac Tournament Island DLC was fun for me since I was so into the combat. I was ready for this to become a franchise so I'm bummed there was never at least one sequel.
SPOILER ALERT... That scene when you go to try and rescue Jackie... again and you see him dead on a meat hook actually made me feel sad and understand how Wei felt towards Jackie, it come out of nowhere and there is nothing you could do and you just feel hopeless and that is why I fell in love with this game it Immerses you in the world and puts you in Wei's shoes. Sad that this game never got that much praise and even sadder that we never got a sequel as this game NEEDS one
I’ve played through this game like 5 times, I love it. This honestly is about to make me download it again for another playtbrough. I really wish we had a sequel, even if it was a new story.
I remember trying this out when games with gold had it up for free, thinking I'd play it for a few hours and probably not come back. But I enjoyed playing through and beating it so much that I went and bought it for PC not long after. Truly an astonishing game
This game is amazing, great story, fighting, parkour, side quests and side activities, even graphics are really good in my opinion, i had so much fun playing this game, it's definitely one of those games that deserve more love and a sequel.
Awesome game indeed. The only quality competitor for GTA series imo. EDIT: Example of well made game but not much spent on marketing. Today's the opposite, check out Cyberpunk2077 or Ubisoft's titles.
The first time I learn about this game was because I was looking for Watch Dogs. But I get Sleeping Dogs instead. At first I was hesitant about this game. But it turned out amazing!! Definitely a classic title and instant recommendation.
I played this game on july 2013 and it was simply amazing, then I played it again on january 2014, a few months before the disc reader of my 360 stopped working, meaning that I couldn't play most of my games anymore The years went by and I the memory of Sleeping Dogs turned into "oh yeah it was a game that I played and had lots of fun for a while, but I don't think it was that good" Than on january 2019, exactly 5 years since the last time I played it, it went on sale on PS Plus, only 3 bucks, I bought it and played it immediately, now with the DLCs, and I was very glad to see my memory was wrong, 7 years after being released the game was still just as fun, the story is indeed incredible, Hong Kong still feels alive, and the mechanics are still fluid
Square Enix needs to do a sequel. It will sell a lot more than the first game did in the first month. Because this game has been played by a lot more people now
One of the best games from the last generation. The gameplay is far more tight that most GTA clones, and story and characters are superior to GTA V. Square Enix is crazy to not release a sequel, but it's sad that United Front Games is gone.
Worth playing even now in 2021. The Definitive Edition runs well on PC, costs only around 3$ on Steam (when on sale), which is great value for the amount of content available. I highly recommend using a controller, leaving only the shooting sections for the keyboard & mouse.
Man this was one of the first games I bought when I got my PS4. Only $10 for the Definitive edition..........man talk about getting your money's worth. Soooooo many hours sunk into this game great, great review and have a great day everyone!! 👌🤘
You could really feel the tension of playing both sides of the law trying to earn both respect of the police officers and the triad gang members. Best part of the game is shoving aside pedestrians while running and see how different npc react.
this game is one of the most slept on game of the decade i think, so sad we wont see a sequel anytime soon. it had such a good story for such an obscure game
Super super underrated. What a great great game. Just recently played and wow, I was blown away. What a game. Def got overshadowed by GTA coming out the following year. Glad it is getting some street cred now, well well worth it
Yeah I didn’t understand that choice at all. As a long post-release reviewer, why would you choose the worst version of a game to do unless you were doing both and using the original as a point of comparison?
Awesome review, always feels like watching those awesome and cool videogames tv shows from the 90-2000 that got you hooked up watching the features of a game, even i did know everything about this one, i played it like 10 times, i enjoyed all the review without even thinking in skip any second, awesome work, the timing and pacing it's just perfect, to make you lose track of time and just enjoy a nice game review (sorry the all over the place words i have been working 20 of the last 24 hours) I have a few suggestions: - Make playlist about gentes - Now you take the asian culture topic: would you review Yakuza games or something more obscure but totally incredible like Shadowrun: Hong Kong Thats all thank you all the hard work 👍 PD: did you ever played NARC PS2/XBOX?
ColourShed's Channel is VERY much like Sleeping Dogs: both are criminally underrated and seeing CS review this is something I know I wanted to see for a long time. Quick background: itI always get into the generations late in their cycle. My first console was the NES in 1987 and then I got a Genesis in 1990. I didn't game much until 1996 when I bought the PlayStation 1, and didn't get into the PS2 until GTA San Andreas. I took another break from gaming and didn't get a PS3 until 2012, a 160GB Slim. After going back through some of the "classics" of the generation (GTA IV, Uncharted 2, etc.) I saw the advert for Sleeping Dogs. I absolutely loved it & had a blast going through the game a few days after it launched. I just got my PS4 Pro last year and the Definitive Edition was one of the first games I bought for it. I'm still in the middle of my second playthrough & it's been one of those I grab and play a few hours and then let sit a month or two. It's more a comment on how fun the game is and not wanting it to end than being bored with it... It's been on PSN Network for months off & on during their sales for under $5 for the Definitive. Go buy it and you'll be doing your good karma for the video game Universe.
Excellent review that sums up what most of us who bought Sleeping Dogs 10 years ago thought: this is the best of all the GTA/open world clones released since GTA III caught fire.
My only problem with this game is that the Good Cop/Bad Cop wasn't really used that much outside earning points for upgrades, which was something i really liked on True Crime NY and they could have made something really good on SD considering the whole undercover cop theme.
I'll always have a soft spot for this game, I really really liked it, and the open world combat was pretty fun. I've played through it twice, once on 360 and the other on PC, both times I had a blast doing it, even the random side jobs were cool.

I honestly don't understand why ColourShed insists on playing every game on console. Especially when the game in question looks and runs far better on the PC than on console and is fairly easy to run even on a mid-tier system from 5 years ago on top of that. I just don't get it.
@Brupcat maybe he just prefers Console, nothing wrong with that at all
Yeah, whatever console version he's playing looks horrible. Low res textures and jaggies everywhere...
@Brupcat He could be like me and is incapable of playing with M&K for any amount of time. I also like consoles because of the simplicity. I find if there are 20 setting options to fiddle with I WILL fiddle with all of them for a looooong time.
Maybe it’s to show the game in its raw form without possibility of hidden mods and settings
4am, getting into bed, about to close my eyes and I see a new video from you? You already know which one is more important here.
This game was definetly a sleeper hit and i honestly had better time with this than any gta. Definite edition especially
Play gta 4 if you haven't
@@ZaveAres who hasnt lol. 4 is best gta tho
@@ZaveAres Bruh it was also better than GTA IV, you people really need to stop pretending that it was the greatest game of all time when in reality, everyone hated and shat on that game because it was (and still is) a massive pile of dog shit compared to San Andreas and V's story mode when it came out.
@@davidr.7883 That's a lie. The majority of people think GTA IV had a superior story than GTA V. That false "statement" you made came from up your own ass.
I recently replayed GTA IV, GTA V and this. This was far better than those too. Gameplay is a bit wonky here and there but overall much more fun.
I personally love and recommend this game to anyone and everyone, even in 2020
I loved this game. I remember playing the Definitive Edition all the time when I first got my Xbox One.
Got it for free on Xbox Live Gold. Absolutely loved this game.
@@Lazer-bp9lf that was in late 2013 or early 2014?
What's the different with original version?
Is the Story getting longer?
@@Iychoenk It's pretty much the base game with all the extra DLC added in.
A game i hated when i first played it. Yet when i revisited i completed everything there is to do. It's an amazing game.
Explain why you hated this at first
You hated this game? Explain yourself!
I feel you I just didn't care for it at first seemed generic and boring hard to explain but I appreciate it now
@@NewAgeSlaves It is generic and boring. Nothing changed.
@@gaminghq97 i thought it was yet another carbon copy - GTA knockoff with nothing to differentiate it, and ive played most GTA clones. So i just moved on to other games. I returned to it because i always thought the hong kong setting was cool. I gave it some time and then i loved it. I don't think i've ever changed my opinion so much about a game as this one.
F.Y.I Pretty sure there's a Sleeping Dogs movie coming up with Donnie Yen in the lead as Wei Shen.
Are u for real? That would be dope!
Real shit?
yes Donnie Yen confirmed that.
It's been years since we heard of it though. Looks like its in development hell
19:02 Dude went flying off that hit 😅
Great game. Shame there's no sequel.
As someone born and raised in HK there were 3 aspects they could've implemented that they probably couldn't have in the first game. HKs verticality, the MTR and more of the outer new territories area, towards the border of Shenzen. Maybe a mission to Macao too.
“A man who never eats pork bun is never a whole man”
You and minimme uploading on the same day is so nice.
This is a game that I'd say will have a devoted cult following in the next half a decade or so. It's one of my favorites.
I actually revisited this one month ago to get the platinum (eazyyyy). I knew that it wasn't a super popular game, but I thought that it was respected among all the gamers. Reading these comments, I guess it actually was kind of a gem. It was a very fun experience nonetheless
I would love to see Sleeping Dogs 2, while again fighting side-by-side with King!
Literally one of my favorite games.
Love your videos, glad to have you back! So much more interesting than the average ”ign-review”. Greetings from Sweden
Such an underrated game. Was one of my favorites. It had the best combination of story, characters, and gameplay, and it was amazing.
It's funny how Emma Stone was a throwaway character in this one lmao
Loved the story and the combat is so much fun. One of the best open world games outside of R*
I loved this game so much when I first played it, very refreshing, thank you for the review! I recently got the Definitive Edition for my PS4, might give it a shot someday.
The only issue I had with the game was driving, really made playing it annoying at times.
Also, 19:03 that guy went flying!
This game deserves a sequel
Such a fun game. The combat was pretty addictive to me, and the Zodiac Tournament Island DLC was fun for me since I was so into the combat. I was ready for this to become a franchise so I'm bummed there was never at least one sequel.
Man, I LOVED this game back in the day, still play the definitive edition from time to time
I literally just found this video because i searched up for a review lol. Just beat the game, it's amazing
One of the best games of the last Decade. I enjoyed playing Sleeping Dogs, Mad Max, and Batman Arkham Knight during Quarantine.
YES! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS MASTER PIECE SINCE YOU ANNOUNCED IT!
this game is my childhood. i remembered playing this game in class just before my teacher came XD
This is an excellent game. Defiantly deserves more recognition.
Today's the opposite, check out Cyberpunk2077 or Ubisoft's titles.
one of the most underrated games of all time!
Rip Winston, Peggy, Uncle Po and Jackie Ma.
The first time I learn about this game was because I was looking for Watch Dogs. But I get Sleeping Dogs instead. At first I was hesitant about this game. But it turned out amazing!! Definitely a classic title and instant recommendation.
Get it on pc. Runs great. It was on sale on steam a few weeks ago for under $3
Jeez I remember this game being all over the place, everywhere. From Ads on tv to bus stop posters.
I played this game on july 2013 and it was simply amazing, then I played it again on january 2014, a few months before the disc reader of my 360 stopped working, meaning that I couldn't play most of my games anymore
The years went by and I the memory of Sleeping Dogs turned into "oh yeah it was a game that I played and had lots of fun for a while, but I don't think it was that good"
Than on january 2019, exactly 5 years since the last time I played it, it went on sale on PS Plus, only 3 bucks, I bought it and played it immediately, now with the DLCs, and I was very glad to see my memory was wrong, 7 years after being released the game was still just as fun, the story is indeed incredible, Hong Kong still feels alive, and the mechanics are still fluid
19:02 that one guy "My people need me! I must go!"
Mannnn loved this game got it free with games for gold on my 360 years ago! Very very fun might just replay it!
It cost me five bucks with the two awesome expansions, I was shocked, the game is absolutely fantastic.
Man this was one of the first games I bought when I got my PS4. Only $10 for the Definitive edition..........man talk about getting your money's worth.
Soooooo many hours sunk into this game great, great review and have a great day everyone!! 👌🤘
Love this game so much. Played through it a lot! Underrated.
You could really feel the tension of playing both sides of the law trying to earn both respect of the police officers and the triad gang members. Best part of the game is shoving aside pedestrians while running and see how different npc react.
I love this game, I had always wanted a GTA game set in an Asian city.
What a coincidence I was just replaying this and here’s a review. Awesome man
I was expecting you would cover the DLC which are absolutely great, Specially the Zodiac Tournament
Reminds me, I've never even touched the DLC yet bruh
this game is one of the most slept on game of the decade i think, so sad we wont see a sequel anytime soon. it had such a good story for such an obscure game
Next review: Yakuza 0.
Super super underrated. What a great great game. Just recently played and wow, I was blown away. What a game. Def got overshadowed by GTA coming out the following year. Glad it is getting some street cred now, well well worth it
Why didn't you review the Definitive Edition? I mean no one's gonna play the original version now.
Yeah I didn’t understand that choice at all. As a long post-release reviewer, why would you choose the worst version of a game to do unless you were doing both and using the original as a point of comparison?
@@SahiPie Exactly
Because he's not a very smart or well informed reviewer.
Because the original looks a lot better.
I am. Just bought myself an old Xbox 360 and this was in the bundle of games which came with it.
Finish it twice, this is the most underrated game i've ever played
I'd buy a sequel guaranteed, such a great game
Awesome review, always feels like watching those awesome and cool videogames tv shows from the 90-2000 that got you hooked up watching the features of a game, even i did know everything about this one, i played it like 10 times, i enjoyed all the review without even thinking in skip any second, awesome work, the timing and pacing it's just perfect, to make you lose track of time and just enjoy a nice game review (sorry the all over the place words i have been working 20 of the last 24 hours)
I have a few suggestions:
- Make playlist about gentes
- Now you take the asian culture topic: would you review Yakuza games or something more obscure but totally incredible like Shadowrun: Hong Kong
Thats all thank you all the hard work 👍
PD: did you ever played NARC PS2/XBOX?
What a fantastic game! The DLC is also excellent and I had a dumb smile on my face the whole time 😁
ColourShed's Channel is VERY much like Sleeping Dogs: both are criminally underrated and seeing CS review this is something I know I wanted to see for a long time.
Awesome work, maybe Mercenaries 2 World In Flames next?
Dats not how to request it, this is how: mercenaries 1&2 and saboteur
He needs to do Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction first.
@@emanuelespinoza9325 I think Mercs 2 is way more underrated. Not many people played unlike the first Mercs game.
Just completed it twenty minutes ago. Absolutely fucking incredible game.
Cyberpunks city architecture reminded me of this game’s city
Excellent review that sums up what most of us who bought Sleeping Dogs 10 years ago thought: this is the best of all the GTA/open world clones released since GTA III caught fire.
True crime always reminded me of one of those fake gta games that you see on cartoons and sitcoms when they talk about violent video games
My only problem with this game is that the Good Cop/Bad Cop wasn't really used that much outside earning points for upgrades, which was something i really liked on True Crime NY and they could have made something really good on SD considering the whole undercover cop theme.
This is a masterpiece loved literally everything about it
I'll always have a soft spot for this game, I really really liked it, and the open world combat was pretty fun. I've played through it twice, once on 360 and the other on PC, both times I had a blast doing it, even the random side jobs were cool.
I would love to see you review some Yakuza games.
That would be perfect
love your videos man, keep it up!
God, the nostalgia....
aight I'm off to reinstall it
This game felt unfinished, but what was there was pretty nice. The hand to hand combat is better than any other open world game I've played.
