Jokes aside, I realize that this was probably a difficult decision to make after operating independently for so many years, but a lot of hard choices have to be made to stay afloat in this industry, and I wish the best for everyone moving forward. Hope that the company never loses its creative flair.
YorkJonhson it must’ve been hard but I truly believe they chose the best publisher to be apart of. Especially seeing the creations of Microsoft lately and how they’re letting their creators create. Like ori and the blind Forrest. They have more opportunities and support to create the versions of their games they want to create.
I love how Xbox Game Studios allow their acquisitions to fulfill whatever prior obligations they had with other publishers. They see it as a win/win as the developer can still make the msot of their last game and multiplatform audience before the next exclusive game and Microsoft, now owning the IP, will profit a ton if the game does well. The Outer Worlds and Psychonauts 2 are gonna be very good money makers, and hopefully we'll see MGS re-invest that into the team.

The fact that Double Fine’s trouble production budget had themselves nearly in a phase where they had to force themselves to cut content until Microsoft went in, acquired the studio, and save the team from having to reach a fate in their development cycle that would’ve drastically affected the overall quality of the final product! Psychonauts 2’s as great as it was now truly meant to be! Congratulations!

It's crazy to see it come full circle, the first time I heard about Psychonauts was when MS was going to publish it waaaay back in the day. I think MS is a whole company now and I think you guys will be in great hands. Congrats and bring on Psychonauts 2

Honestly, this announcement just made the likelihood of Brutal Legend 2 happening a lot more likely, now they don't have to worry so much about getting funding.

This made me very nervous at first thinking Doublefine was being absorbed by a larger company & would lose it's creativity & unique identity as a game developing studio but after watching this video I'm a bit more at ease. When I heard the news, I was a bit worried about platforms Psychonauts 2 will be released for, but if that doesn't change (I'm still getting my GOG/DRM-free copy, running on Windows 7 / Linux), then I am completely fine with that. I wish You the best in the future. I find it a bit funny, how it all started with Xbox, and ended up at Xbox.
they said backers will get Psychonaunts 2 on ps4. but what about those of us that intended to buy the game after it was released but couldn't afford to back it? will it still be released on psn and in ps4 disc form after the backers get their copy or will it unfairly be only on xbox afterwards?

Boss battles in Psychonauts 2 are phenomenal. Thankfully Microsoft support has helped Double Fine team to make the boss battle available.
