- Greetings Psychobackers!
The aroma of deep-fried turkey, corn casserole and pecan pie is in the air, threatening to lure us all from our desks for a few days of relaxation, family and feasting. But before we succumb, falling onto our couches into the sweet, sweet dreams of a food coma, we want to share with you a brief update on the greatest game of all time, Psychonauts 2.
We are deep, deep into development now, and progress is going extremely well! It’s also about to speed up and get a lot more RAD as the team from our recently released rogue-like all roll onto the project to lend us their expertise. That means nearly everyone at the studio is now working together on the biggest development team we’ve here since the launch of Brutal Legend in 2009!
We’re at a stage in the project now where we have a whole ton of things we want to show you, are eager and excited to show you even, but to do so involves dancing around lots of spoilers and is proving a little complicated. While we figure out this complex choreography we’ve put together an update about our new team members and the skills they’ll be bringing with them, rather than specific elements of the game. Those with keen eyes will still spot quite a few little snippets of excitement, including a room of people dressed in perfectly normal attire.

Hopefully they remember to put a massive amount of hidden content in this game to feed my insatiable hunger for flavour text. That was one of my favourite parts of the first game.
Awesome to know you're getting a little extra umph in your psycho-squad, Guys! Just, word of advice from a fan and friend, don't go too fast in the production. Gamers like myself would much prefer a delayed game over a broken one, after all. If this gem needs time for a polish, we'll gladly allow it. Keep up the good work, Double Fine!
It’s usually up to the publisher or producer rather than the development team. But I agree
Yeah like even if it comes out in 2021 instead I'll be a little disappointed but at the same time trust that there is extra polish to be put onto the game still

As someone thats learning and making a game in ue4 its super cool to see devs basically have the same tools that anyone can use at home, of course they have things like maya and stuff but this is still really cool.
Anyone can download the Student Version of Maya too! :)

Don't you know that Double Fine started make Brütal legend at the end of work with psychonauts? That experience says they will start to make BL 2 in 2020
Well double fine is owned by Microsoft now so that decision is not up to to Tim anymore. It is possible but i would not get my hopes up if i were you.

I just played the first Psychonauts game for the first time and it's absolutely addictive and a lot of mindless fun. Has to be one of the best games I've played in a long time. Incredibly underrated where I'm from.
This man reminds me of one of the penguins from Madagascar, in a good way. Loved the first one can't wait for Psychonauts 2, lets go!!!

I only got a bite of 3d animation experience past year so seeing someone working on a long sequence with ~3 rigs, oh myyyyy, deepest respect, I'm terrified xD

I absolutely love these videos showing the development of the game. As a person aspiring to work in this field these videos are so exciting. I absolutely love them and wish more development studios would do this. I love getting to see the process and meet the minds behind the game. This is better marketing for me then any trailer or playable demo could ever be. Thank you!

It would be interesting to see Janice and the designers or creative directors sit together and he for example wants: This moment in the game to be a little foreboding of the upcoming twist which is etc.
So she can add: Well the whole team and organization is falling apart at this point right? So maybe we could make more leaves fall and maybe some twigs and broken branches so kind of foreshadow what's coming.
Like how color themes and environments describe a person's emotions at that moment or how small but impactful things like a boulder holding a waterfall suddenly falls and multiple smaller waterfall appear as a symbol of how everyone is mourning and sobbing over a just killed friend.
Or how the environment can tell more about the person than they show like how the entrance to a guy's office is small and hard to get to by piles of paper and garbage but inside it's really big and full of unique objects. Showing how he wants to be personal and open but finds it so hard to take that first step and it only gets harder, shown by the increasing amount of garbage at his door and the small hall into his office.
It's always so good to see the developers who work on such amazing projects. Thanks for sharing.

Cant wait for this game! Probably my second favorite game of all time! Definitely plan on playing it on my channel! Hopefully it'll open the experience to new players who have never heard about the game

Wow that giant robot Ford looks awesome! I can't wait to play Psychonauts 2! It's so great to hear that development is creative and free flow! Please release this on steam or at least GOG, don't make it an epic exclusive or I will eat my own teeth >:)

After Psychonauts 2, Double Fine Productions should collab with Rare to develop a new Kameo or better yet, a new Banjo Kazooie adventure!

I never played Psychonauts 1but after seeing the trailer for Psychonauts 2 I’m very very excited. I love games like that and I’m glad Microsoft purchased Double Fine and hopefully Microsoft will give you guys the creative freedom and money you need to produce gems like this. Hopefully we will get a new Grim Fandango in the future or seeing as how Rare isn’t doing Conker or Banjo anymore maybe Microsoft wills let you guys take a whack at them

I still haven't gotten around to playing RAD. However I recently started replaying Brütal Legend and even to this day I still enjoy it and I kinda wish there was a sequel probably following an older and bewildered Eddie fighting off modern music tropes as a symbol of the old ways being replaced by newer methods like how the Stonehenge/Valhalla game world has evolved with hints of industrial and Nu metal taking over

From what I've seen, Microsoft is pretty cool with letting some of their games on other platforms... and I really want to play Psychonauts 1 & 2 on the go...

@@Worm-revolver They've released Grim Fandango, Broken Age, and Rad on the Switch. They also released Costume Quest 2 on the Wii U.
Iirc Tim has said he wants to try to get the first game on as many consoles as possible, but there's no confirmation about an official Switch port anywhere. I agree though, having games on the go is so nice, it's how I've been getting through a lot of RPGs lately.
@@Worm-revolver I mean, I'm pretty sure they're obligated to release Psychonauts 2 on Switch. I recall Switch being in the console line-up, but even if they didn't promise it, Switch makes MAJOR dough.
