  • New for the 2018 model year, Suzuki has released its quarter-liter sportbike, the GSX250R. Suzuki plans for this motorcycle to not only be a bike for bike-curious riders to start on, but also to be a motorcycle for those returning to motorcycling to come back to at a reasonable cost. We took to the streets to see how it performed in various daily scenarios.

I remember how my first motorcycle was a 250 and it was more lively than the bike I have now that's a 1300. It was just smoother and a little bit more fun being a smaller engine that revved high. Kinda miss how those engines were. And super gas sippers

I just bought this as a second bike and I love it. I’ve seen people commenting about this bike saying that it’s too much money for what it is, but when you see it in person and see the materials and quality that they used then you understand why the price of it, better than the competition . It’s not a fast bike but you can keep up with traffic just fine so if you want an entry level racing feel bike the bikes to buy will be the ninja 400, the r3 or the Kim 390 but as an all rounder bike the Suzuki is perfect 👌

    • @bryanbond3886

Yea i dont understand why everyone badhes it from what i have seen it will do 70 mph just fine. I dont want a speefing ticket. And heavier is better for stability.

People are definitely super worried about having the most horsepower and speed..but forget that's not what motorcycling is about..this bike is so much fun, it doesn't go 189+ mph..but its a wonderful bike nonetheless! People looking for a chill ride and not worrying about a bike overpowering you, this bike is awesome😁

Remember the CBR500R is also in this class. So when you look at it that way it really is very under powered compared to the competition. Its soo frustrating when manufacturers screw up like this as we want them to give us awesome bikes to choose from. But who in their right mind is going to choose this over an R3.

    • @Terraceview

I love the look of this bike, especially in white... But it’s horsepower figures and weight leaves a lot to be desired. 20.6HP doesn’t seem like enough for me to feel comfortable as a new rider... I’m leaning towards the Yamaha R3 (35.1HP) and the BMW G310R (29.5HP) It’s a beautiful bike but it definitely needs more horsepower.

I bought a 2012 cbr 250r for $1750 with 2308 miles and flipped it for 3300.. buying new as a beginner is not a good move imo.. you'll prolly drop the bike and lose even more money not just from riding depriciation. Be patient and definately get your endorsement so you can test ride before you buy..

This is a bike 🏍 that new riders, who just finished the msf classes or going to take an exam at the dmv, should get it. When I learned to bike I had no choice but to get 500cc or 600cc bikes because I couldn’t find one that was at 250cc. Fast, real fast, real heavy, does a lot of wobbles, scared the heck out of me first time but I handled it. Learn to adapt. So advice is, get that bike if you find one, get some practice then move to 600 or something like that. You’ll have fun teaching others as well.

Neither. Ninja 400 or R3. Now the R3 is a blast, 400 is an awesome toy but wish that extra power was on the r3. but either is good for new riders to really learn also. Suzuki really dropped the ball on these power plants, and super heavy frames... don't waste your money. If you are in the usa, the gsx250 bikes are almost borderline dangerous for how slow they are.

I got to ride one of these at a Suzuki demo event, disappointing. I am all over little bikes like this, got to ride an R3 at an earlier yamaha demo event, and that bike was pretty fun. I also have a VFR 400 and four cylinder CBR 250R at home. This bike completely lacked excitement however. The throttle response was pretty dull, and the flywheel was too heavy. Don't get me wrong, it would be a great bike to teach someone how to ride, but it just doesn't excite. Revving the engine to the top does basically nothing, it really doesn't feel like it develops more power at higher revs.
The one thing it did excel at was fuel economy though. It took me a significant portion of the trip to figure out how to reset the fuel economy(reset the trip meter...). I did manage to reset it at a stop, and pulled down 86 MPG for the remainder of the trip. The undersquare engine and moderate compression ratio really help for efficiency. I don't know if the throttle is electronic or cable, but redesigning it so that the throttle does more at the beginning of the travel, plus a lighter flywheel would go a long way towards improving excitement. Meanwhile, with the R3 which I was able to reset right away, I got 65 MPG.
I go to much greater lengths for fuel economy that just about anyone, but I still wouldn't buy the GSX250R, it just isn't exciting enough.

I think they should have made it a 300cc like the other manufacturers, as it stands you're getting less for your money on this bike compared to a Kawasaki 300 per se for about the same amount of money. I'm all for learning on an entry low power bike but with this bike you'll be ready to upgrade in a month lol
