I am taking all the parry perks on the left side perks, AoE damage on parry, 25% damage to shocked enemies, shock grenade on parry and running the fencing power sword and I love it.
I think there might be a programming clash where the game has to register if you pressed L1 long enough for a hard block or tapped it for a parry block, and since that takes time, if you try to parry too late in the timing window it ends up just being a hard block animation. But its good to know that all it takes is parrying earlier in the window to allow for the game to catch up. At that point its just practice. So thank you.
Dodging, and more specifically, perfect dodging is certainly a skill that requires both deep knowledge of our foes and reaction timing. I will look into some tips that may help us overcome attacks that seek to penetrate our shields. Courage and Honour!

Hopefully this can help someone else, I thought I was going insane, but my parries were flawless in trials but could not for the life of me hit a single parry in operations. I share this knowledge for the advancement of humanity and our assured victory against the enemies of our kind. While the enemies of the Emperor still draw breath, there can be no peace.
The simplest explanation i have is, when you tap block /parry what you actually do is enter a "parry window" you just need to make sure the opponents attack hits in that window and you get a parry. I play with a power sword on the highest difficulty and I don’t always manage to parry, more often I have to dodge, although I learned a few new things from this video, so thank you.
After some time in the lab and getting it down I've come to report my findings. I found my problem was that I was reactive not proactively parrying. What I mean by that is you don't wait until the attack is about to land and react by parrying but parry well before they connect so that you have the stance up to receive the attack. This is in stark contrast to the very tight deflects on Sekiro and such that I was used to. After that small correction and understanding I went from missing everything to nailing every parry vs every attack. Go forth my brothers and eradicate our enemies.
Precisely, Brother! Your training has given you enlightenment. May the Emperor look fondly upon your newly sharpened blade and guide it the heart of our adversaries.
Here's what the Google search came up with( "how to parry in Space Marine 2"): To parry, simply press L1 on PlayStation, LB on Xbox, or C on PC right before the attack hits you. Parrying an attack that is highlighted blue will also sometimes require an earlier parry than some players are used to, meaning you should parry as the enemy lunges at you, but before they begin the swing animation. Hopefully this helps while watching the video. It helps me😁 -We are the Hammer!
Great video. You know it's funny, I haven't seen any other YT people talking in-depth about the parry system in this game. Not even the bigger names in the community who are playing this game and making videos about it. You've done a great service to the Imperium brother.

Dude holy shit thankyou xD It was a genuine struggle trying to figure out the parry with this class, and it sucked cause its my favorite class. Appreciate the tips brother.

thanks for the video. seems odd to do a parry when they start their attack as opposed to when they're about to hit you. that's what I was trying to do.
You're welcome, Brother! In Trial 1, you are given the default Chainsword which is a Balanced weapon. If you can master the timing with a Balanced weapon, then it will be even easier with a Fencing weapon.
I tend to have more consistency with a double tap. I like to block the horde, dodge attack to knock ‘em over for gun strikes, perfect dodge groups of larger mobs and parry when I’m up against 2 or so large mobs. Shield bash is useless in my personal opinion because a dodge sweep attack does a better job of relieving pressure. Trying to parry out of a block without double tapping gave me many issues possibly due to input lag.
@@Renhaiv You are quite welcome, Brother. FYI After today's patch, Perfect Parrying became infinitely easier with 'Fencing' weapons, so this guide now only applies to Balanced weapons.
@@COA5T tried over and over, my bulwark always resort to block instead of parry for me sadly. I press block the second you do, the second his blade descends on me, always block. Perhaps it's bugged on playstation. EDIT* on playstation you need to double tap as block is certainly interfering with parry. If you block twice, you will see the parry animation.
genuinely thought I was tweaking at first when I would hit parry last second and it wouldn't be perfect; this more delayed parry setup is a little odd at first but once you get used to it; its not that bad thankfully.

Nice video, helped me undestand it a lot better. Got a question tho, what do you do in the situation when there are like 3 or 4 of them around you and maybe outside of your view. Do you know if its possible to block those or can you only block the attacks that are in front of your character, or what do you do usualy in this situation. I usualy just get shredded when its more than 1 and a horde at the same time.
Thank you, Brother. When facing multiple Majoris-level enemies like the Tyranid Warrior, make sure to position yourself so that everything is in front of you. Now, it is important to note that just because you parry one of those enemies, you are not safe to execute your Gunstrike immediately. There will be enough time, so you may have to block or dodge an unblockable attack momentarily after a parry, then once it is safe, Gunstrike. Additionally, your teammates will peel a couple of those enemies away (ideally, lol) so always look for execute opportunities caused by your brothers, which will give you invulnerability temporarily and allow you time to look around briefly and plan your next move.
My thanks, Brother. I will seek out the Tech Priests in order to better understand technology that would allow to me enhance our visual training aids moving forward. Courage and Honour!
Are you a power sword user? I've seen a lot of people trash talking it, but I think the skill curve might just be high. I'm taking a while to get the hang of it, but I'm just wondering which of the variants seems better. I went for the more block oriented variant and struggle to get parries against the bigger guys. Definitely going to try and focus on these tips. Thanks for the vid 🙏
You're welcome, Brother. Yes, the Power Sword is my most used weapon. I would recommend a variant that uses Fencing. Block weapon actual remove the ability to Perfect Parry which is why you were unable to parry, so I do not recommend that at all. Either Fencing or Balanced will work.

Man I was so confused when I parry sometimes, I get the little blue flash that appears when you hit a parry, but then I take damage from the attack immediately after.
The problem is with RED ATTACK when you are surrounded ( very often ) and warrior doing his unlockable, you should roll but small enemy's block you or just wait for moment when you release shield button and waste you and stun lock you for long time 😢. Another thing is that every shield bash allow enemy to attack you ( and that's dumb )

The problem is people don't understand that balance, fencing, & block all change the parry window with fencing giving a longer window, while block makes it so you cant perfect parry
Thank you so much for this guide/tutorial man. Was messing up the parry sometimes and was wondering what was the actual parry window/timing. Can you make a guide for dealing with small creatures in a swarm? Eg. Even when i'm doing combos heavy and light heavy, my armor and health goes down waaaay to fast. Tried parrying(normal attacks without the blue prompts) but when i parry, i still get damaged by the other small creatures. So how do i actually deal with them effectively without cheesing?
You're welcome, Brother. There are multiple ways to thin the horde. The quickest way is, believe or not, kill the Majoris enemy in that pack. A horde that has a Majoris unit are linked to each other. If you kill the Majoris, you will notice a large group of the horde will instantly die. When you parry the large enemy in the pack, the small creatures get parried along with them. Additionally, be sure to implement Shield Bash in large groups (Block+Melee). This will allow Gun Strikes if you have the perk that stuns enemies hit by Shield Bash longer, allowing you to keep your armor topped off. If you are using the Power Sword, switch to Power stance and you can do 1 swing -> Gunstrike consistenly, back to back.
I was going insane. Had been parrying everything as Titus in the campaign then hopped on Bulwark and couldn’t land any at all. I think I just held the parry button a little too long or something idk but tapping seems to be the way.

I play with a power sword on the highest difficulty and I don’t always manage to parry, more often I have to dodge, although I learned a few new things from this video, so thank you.
Of course, Brother. If this will aid you in carrying out the will of the Emperor, I may rest easy in that knowledge.
Took a guy with around 300 subs to do the best parry video.
Thanks a lot. Awesome work!
@@Rob7274 I humbly accept your commendation, Brother. Emperor guide you.
Here's what the Google search came up with( "how to parry in Space Marine 2"):
To parry, simply press L1 on PlayStation, LB on Xbox, or C on PC right before the attack hits you. Parrying an attack that is highlighted blue will also sometimes require an earlier parry than some players are used to, meaning you should parry as the enemy lunges at you, but before they begin the swing animation.
Hopefully this helps while watching the video. It helps me😁

Something i believe is that people seem to miss is that some upgrades for melee weapons remove the ability to perform perfect counter's.
Great video. You know it's funny, I haven't seen any other YT people talking in-depth about the parry system in this game. Not even the bigger names in the community who are playing this game and making videos about it. You've done a great service to the Imperium brother.

As directed by the Codex Astartes, Brother. I hope this video helped. Part 2 goes even more in-depth, but changes to fencing weapons in patches after this video trivializes a lot of these nuances of the Bulwark parry.
This was super helpful Thank You Brother. The Emperor is pleased with you.

Bruhhh i was running a block swore and constantly failing to parry. This make so much more sense now

Because bulwark is the only time you have a shield, i've gotten use to spamming the parry when over welmed and always do it too early. I also hold the button down too long and get overwhelmed very quickly 😅

I really didnt think bulwark could parry, thanks for the video, im definitely going to go train like this later
This training is certain to prove fruitful and sharpen your blade, Brother.
really...this was a huuuuuuuuuge help. many thanks!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
You are welcome, Brother! Emperor guide your path.
thanks for the video. seems odd to do a parry when they start their attack as opposed to when they're about to hit you. that's what I was trying to do.
Thanks that was super helpful. Quick question, what sword type are you using balance or fencing?
You're welcome, Brother! In Trial 1, you are given the default Chainsword which is a Balanced weapon. If you can master the timing with a Balanced weapon, then it will be even easier with a Fencing weapon.
First video ive watched that is actually useful ! Im gonna try this thank you 😊

Am here from ItalianSpartacus - great recommedation - well done man great and helpful video
@@ohnoitisnt666 Thank you, Brother! Brother ItalianSpartacus made an excellent Parry guide, and I am thankful for his endorsement.
It feels like if you’re in motion that the parry is a bit slower on bulwark. Seems easier to nail it when you press it without a directional input
Thank you so much for your guidance, brother.
@@Renhaiv You are quite welcome, Brother. FYI After today's patch, Perfect Parrying became infinitely easier with 'Fencing' weapons, so this guide now only applies to Balanced weapons.
I KNEW IT!!! I knew it had something to do with the timing. It didn’t occur to me that I needed to parry at the start of the animation😅
Your intuition was correct, Brother!
Mr Tony Coast thanks for this guide cause my dumbass always died cause I didn’t know the parry timing with bulwark
@@MrSv7dzg You are most welcome, Brother!
Ty, been struggling like shit getting parries with bulwark for some reason.
@@MrAlek1988 You are most welcome, Brother.
You are swift to both grasp knowledge and put it into practice with great ease, Brother. Quite admirable, and I am thankful you are on the side of the Imperium!
F'kn thankyou for the timing explanation. I was being gaslighted into believing I had to double-tap.

"I am not a heretic" 😂. 40k memes are unique because they are usually done in character
Thanks it help me a lot, I was goint to give up with this char.
But for me is a double tap, because i'm pressing C while blocking, and to do the parry I have to press double C to do it. I don't know another way.
Thank god. This video rocks sir. I so needed this info well done.
I am glad to hear that this will assist you in the slaughter of our adversaries, Brother.
Thanks for the breakdown. Sick armor!
You're welcome, Brother. The Emperor protects.
@@COA5T Thanks again.
awsome, probably best explanation there is on entire TH-cam. and would be perfect if we could see on the scrren an real time indicator of key strokes.

Brother, Part 2 has been uploaded and includes an overlay per your request.
I wish i could say this solved all my problems, im just going to wait until they fix this instead of losing my mind.
It definitely has issues i can parry like the emperor's Angels with any other class but struggle with bulwark a bit.
Like and commenting for engagement, great video, exactly what I was looking for, hoping the advice transfers into the whip warriors too as they're the bane of my life lmao
Thank you, Brother. Those heretical fools stand no chance against you! The Emperor protects.
very informative soldier. i hope your message reaches other astartes
Thank you, Brother!
Also PS5 Performance is so trash that is nearly important to play this class correctly. This is the biggest BS parry system i ever played
@@poploki4844 I changed my main for heavy ( multimelta build - I will make Salamanders chapter ) , I hope they change parry little bit

I am honored to hear your recommendation for commendation. Thank you, Brother. May this information serve you well!
Thank you so much made it way better
So I figured it out, you wanna check your sword’s defense. You want your sword’s defense to say balance, this allows you to block and party. While sword defense says block it only blocks attacks.
@@garnetthouston5508 Fencing weapons are preferred in order to maximize the perfect Parry window, as Block weapons in their current state do not offer enough benefit. Balanced weapons are good if you can master the moderate parry window, but Fencing will allow your gameplay to be more consistent, Brother.
The hardest part is to nail the timing when you’ve got 20 other enemies swarming you and just eating your health away. Funny enough I did the bulwark trials and got all gold but I still suck as the class lol
Stay tuned, Brother. I just recorded a video and it is uploading now.
@@Trav-I24 Brother, I uploaded Part 3 which is a full Operation mission on RUTHLESS difficulty, and showcases the situations you described.
Thx dude after a session of training, i got it :)
Knowledge is understanding. Intelligence is the ability to take that knowledge and utilize it. I harbored no doubt that you would swiftly grasp this knowledge and transform it into intelligence. May your shield continue to protect the Imperium, Brother.
Make sure your weapon variation defense stat does NOT say block!!! Makes your parry window infinitely smaller to where it is nearly impossible.
@COA5T May the Emperor's light guide you in your endless crusade against the heretics Brother!
I was going insane. Had been parrying everything as Titus in the campaign then hopped on Bulwark and couldn’t land any at all. I think I just held the parry button a little too long or something idk but tapping seems to be the way.
Precisely, Brother! Very easy to master once you know that exact detail.
I didn’t know you could just hold the block like that. This game just got so much easier 🤣
@@glasfish I am glad you were able to gain some Intel, Brother. Part 2 goes a bit more in depth as well.
