Hey brother! you're totally right: the game TRIES to use the block as a priority. if you're on controller, it's far easier because you have to gingerly tap it basically. If you use a fencing weapon, it seems the game's timing kicks in properly. But using Balanced, for some reason, the game can't fully decide if you want to parry or block. Also, it seems that tapping it quickly will cause that animation you showed at 5:50. If you hold it for ANY amount of quickness, it doesn't trigger the parry. It's SO frustrating! Thank you so much for posting this. Leveling up my Bulwark at the moment and have been really struggling with this through the first 4 hours plus of doing so. I’ve never seen a parry system where you have to preload your parry while the enemy preloads their incoming attack. lol Thanks again.
Had used the fencing sword for a while to do some parry practice, then jumped to chain sword and power fist. The fencing does feel much easier to land the parry. On balanced weapons if I did not react/notice an attack coming in and tried to parry I would block; however, fencing seemed much more forgiving. I would recommend players take a quick look around the area before getting into a fight, consider where you can do a fighting withdrawal at and hopefully your team has your back. Bulwark with guard up is kinda like the Heavy's special skill but can block almost everything except for orange attacks, snipers, blues, stagger, and grapples. You can slowly walk back, blocking everything, waiting for good parry windows and attacks you need to dodge. Shield bash is great for slowly thinning the wave and can give stagger immunity while keeping the block up to tank ranged fire. Parry regular attacks at least every 30s to drop a shock field too. Gun strikes are a great way to regen armor, if HP is needed save banner for executions.

You can test out the parry move by pressing block twice. The parry is a sword move. You swing the sword if you hold block and press the button one more time. I learned it by accident in pvp.

There are no problems with the tyranid warrior, I now parry him by sound :D
@@Noble_Flash Thank you, Brother. For the Ravener (StarCraft hydralisk), I would recommend double checking if you have equipped yourself with a Power sword that has the 'FENCING' defence stat before you go into Trial 3. Your words of praise honor me greatly, Brother. It is both an anticipation that an attack will happen, and that I need to respond as quickly and early as possible to that attack. But I think generally speaking you are correct. It is as the enemy is 'winding up' or preparing to swing. As to your other inquiries, I and working on a collection of gameplay examples that should be able to demonstrate performing these operation in the field, to include perfect dodging.
@@JB-xi2yv That's understandable, Brother. Try to weave in some shield bashes to make space from time to time, but as long as you have the correct timing against the Majoris unit, if it hits a Minoris they should also get STUNNED, but not necessarily a perfect Parry, meaning you won't get a Gunstrike opportunity. @@urchinsify I greatly appreciate the feedback, Brother! Bruh. Bro. Homie. Dude. Brother..... Why is this the ONLY good video I've been able to find on the parry window?! Awesome. Thank you very much. *Power fist bump*
the issue I'm having is, there rarely is a solo enemy. Usually I'm crowded by them so I'm blocking, now when the parry should come up I first have to stop the block and then throw that parry right after which is not that great to do if both is on the same keybind.
Releasing Block into Parry certainly requires finesse Brother, I won't deny that. In Part 1, you can see that I block the smaller enemies and release into Parry on the Warrior consistently, which causes the surrounding enemies to stagger as well. Given that situation, you can do this knowing that while there is a possibility that some of the smaller hits will get through, the Gunstrike opportunity from the Perfect Parry will provide you a way to recover that Contested Health.
Does letting go of the block after holding for a while button count towards a parry/perfect parry? That's how it works in Smash Ultimate. Letting go of a button is more smooth of an input than tapping with a delay or like some people said to double tap the button as Bulwark.
In action and fighting games, we call that technique 'Negative Edge', which the game registers the release of a button for certain moves as an actual button press. For Perfect Parries in this game, it does not Brother. Although sometimes when parrying the small creatures it does feel that way, but maybe their parry window is just gigantic.
Great video. Now you just need to teach them how to play their "bulwark" class and how to use the banner with the team or cover heavy, because they don't know how to do that either. a lot of tank and no way to "tank
You have acquired new knowledge, Brother. I have no doubt that you will swiftly transform it into combat efficiency that will decimate the battlefield. Emperor guide you.
Playing Bulwark as main i found it pretty much impossible first. The fencing sword started to help a little. I now wonder when the "fencing bonus" kicks in. Does it add to the window after or before the regular time. Dodge basically does not work for me when orienting on the sign either... and parry - well with the sword now it at least happens once in a while since i thought this blue sign made sense - for the Bulwark it seems less so though.
Great observations, Brother! I will say this, and hopefully it makes sense. I believe the Parry window is being extended on the back end, not the front. Simply because you cannot parry the enemy before they are able to be parried. If they were to add frames that could be parried at the front end, it would not match the expected animations and in some cases, the enemy could get parried even before swinging their weapon. Now, I could be completely wrong about that, but that is my current line of thinking.
how to do you perfect dodge for the ravenor? I'm struggling trying to find out what keys i need to press for his second phase attack but I'm definitely improving with the parrying phases thanks to your guide and some practice and great guide and video man :D
@@briannguyen4473 Thank you, Brother! Perfect Dodge is almost the opposite of the Perfect Parry I demonstrate in these videos. Instead of pressing the button early, you must press Dodge as late as possible right before the attack connects with you. You know when you have done it because it goes into a short slow-motion during the Dodge. In the video I am just pressing the Dodge button in a NEUTRAL position, meaning I am not holding any direction when I press Dodge. It causes you to jump backwards, kinda like the Souls games if you have ever played those. If you have more questions ask away, Brother.
Thank you for the guide! Now I can easy parry/block Vs one tough enemy. But I'm still struggling when it comes to packs of small and big enemies. How not to be hit while swinging the sword? The third tier with fencing is pretty slow.
@@HitsuDen Thanks for attending this training, Brother! When dealing with a horde of enemies: don't concentrate so much on taking ZERO damage. Navigate the horde with the mindset that you are going to take some damage, you are just going to mitigate a MAJORITY of it, and heal back a good portion of that contested health through timely Gunstrikes, and executions which will be awarded to you through your stalwart defense and perfect parries. Once you can consistently adopt this mindset, challenging the horde will seem less daunting and you can focus on the task of eliminating high priority threats.
@@COA5T Thank you, brother! A small commentary about positioning and dealing with hordes would be useful. What to do - blocking and shieldbashing or just swinging the sword/fist.
Thanks for the video, very insightful. Would be cool if you showed the power sword combos. I can't wrap my head around some of the moves (like the one where you do a jump and then thrust your sword into the ground) and googeling the problem I'm not the only one.
The rising slash you can only do it after a regular light attack and you need to wait till your characters sword glows after they strike if you get faster at it you can put it into combos nicely

@@kevinstravel Great question, Brother. During this demonstration I did not remap my Dodge key to one that was on the display. The Dodge is not automatic. Even though it was not shown, I was pressing my Dodge key at the correct time, I was so focused on showing the parry I did not think to remap Dodge.
What i hate about parry in this game is the lack of POV setting and when you overrun by enemy its really hard to focus the enemy that you need/want to make a parry.
My question is though, what defense type do you use on the weapon? Fencing makes parrying easier but you lose so many stats compared to blocking, blocking might be ok on bulwark because we have a shield.
You cannot perform Perfect Parries with a Blocking weapon. Additionally, blocking with your shield is more beneficial as there are skills in the Perk Tree that reward you for doing so. Perfect Parries can only be performed on Balanced and Fencing weapons. In Trial 1, you are relegated to using a Balanced Chainsword. If you are able to master the timing with that, then by virtue any Fencing weapon with only make parrying even easier, Brother.
I don’t know why but with the bulwark it was easier for me to parry. Now I’m currently leveling the Scout and hell no I don’t know why but it’s so difficult with the combat knife….
The inconsistency that I spoke of is not with the attack itself. It is when we press Parry during that window. Sometimes I press parry immediately as it starts and the Ravener gets somewhat 'magnetised' to my parry. Other times that doesn't work. Sometimes I wait and press and bit later, and that works. It's a bit inconsistent compared to what I have experienced with the other enemy types, and it is just specifically the Blue Parry window on that enemy.
Im having trouble with Holding block while being attacked, while having to click parry. Im good with the timing. Just switching between Holding and press during combat
I won't deny the execution of releasing Block into Parry certainly requires some finesse. It is a rather swift operation. But with time, will become second nature, Brother. In Part 1, you can see me doing this a few times but consistently.
Great explanation, although I think the parry/block mechanic of the bulwark really suck, I wish I can parry easily as all other classes, the shield feels more like an annoyance than a good thing.
apologies for my neglegance. I also struggle with the powerfist parry. Im new to this weapon and the timing seems different from the sword parry and vexes me. Any help would be appreciated thanks again brother.
No need to apologize, Brother! I have been using the Power Fist quite a bit recently. I generally use the same concept shown here. But I am working on recording some gameplay examples with all of our weapons so that we have a clear visual without ambiguity.
how do you personally deal with the parry timing when there's a bunch of stuff going on and you can't see the enemy that you intend to parry on your screen while you are attacking minor enemies?
Great question, Brother. In first video - Part 1, take note of how I block the smaller enemies and focus my attention solely on the Warrior. I do this because the Warrior is linked with the smaller enemies around him. If I kill him, either most or all of the smaller enemies with die instantly along with him. He is basically their Commander at that point. This is how the Tyranid's Hive Mind works. Think back to the bridge scene in Operation 2 when you collapse the bridge on the Hive Tyrant. He takes big damage and becomes temporarily incapacitated, causing all those minions on the bridge to also suddenly die. This is that, but to a much lesser extent.
Honestly, from what i've experienced and seen of other bulwarks they rely on the shock AoE from parry. You can spawn one every 30s from parry and also when losing armor every 3-ish mins. When you are about to get swarmed, find a way to fall back with your team, keep your shield facing the enemy and guard up to block ranged shots too, roll back if you need more space. You can quickly drop your block then tap for parry when you see an enemy about to swing (and no orange halo), you will parry, spawn AoE, and stagger the enemies back. That AoE will do pretty good work thinning the group. You can also shield bash for some extra damage. Just keep the enemy in the forward 180 degrees of your shield. Hopefully your team keeps your flanks and rear covered.
Looks to me like bad design by the Devs if you have to press parry BEFORE the blue indicator. Seems like they should have simply put Parry and Block assignable to different keys. There is NO reason the Bulwark should function differently than ALL the other classes when it comes to Parry. If the technique to play this class boils down to you memorizing attack strings and anticipating them just to get the class to function correctly, contrary to all other classes, then something is wrong here.
@@8654ZuluFoxtrot I am in agreement, Brother. As is most of our number. I've heard this sentiment expressed quite a bit over the course of this series. I will be interested to see if the devs change this on an upcoming patch. Emperor protects.

@@DreXav01 Those situations seem difficult to navigate, and at times they are, Brother. However, you must take into account your Battle-Brothers. If you are near them, or herd the horde back to them, they will be able to peel a couple of those Majors off while you mitigate a good portion of incoming attacks. Ideally, 2 or 3 is the most you want fight alone in my experience. You will have to utilize your Dodge more and pick where you want to use the Perfect Parry when you are certain it can land. When you see that your brothers have put 1 or 2 of them in the execute state, use that to gain some invincibility and look around to plan your next move. Thank you so much for posting this. Leveling up my Bulwark at the moment and have been really struggling with this through the first 4 hours plus of doing so. I’ve never seen a parry system where you have to preload your parry while the enemy preloads their incoming attack. lol Thanks again.
You are absolutely welcome, Brother. May your shield be covered by the Emperor's blessing.
Fantastic combat data analysis, Brother. Great tips all around.

@@JB-xi2yv That's understandable, Brother. the issue I'm having is, there rarely is a solo enemy.
I really hope they patch this issue, cause we shouldn't have to watch a video on how to properly use a flawed parry system
@@COA5T Unfortunate. But maybe they will change that in the future. Thank you for the information, brother.✊️
Great video. Now you just need to teach them how to play their "bulwark" class and how to use the banner with the team or cover heavy, because they don't know how to do that either. a lot of tank and no way to "tank
I don't know if this works on Xbox and PC, but on PS5 you can double tap the block button in order to parry with bulwark
Now i know why I cannot parry with Bulwark

@@HansGrub In this video I am using Balanced weapons for Chainsword and Power Sword respectively, Brother. If you can master the perfect Parry on Balanced, then by virtue Fencing weapons only become easier to use. I do not recommend using Block weapons in any case, as they do not provide enough benefit to offset losing your parry window.
Is the dodge automatic? I noticed you arent hitting any keys when you are dodging the ravener
I believe you are referring to 'FOV' settings, and I would have to agree, Brother.
15:30 Well tbf with the stance and tail being up it does kinda indicate it's gonna distant lunge attack.

@@COA5T ah gotcha thank you, so I should focus mostly on the warrior
I love this video... but how the hell one is supposed to see those subtle cues when you are drowning in gaunts and got 7 tyranid warriors swinging at you at the same time XD
Does this also mean you can't do any attack swings in between?
I am trying to put together some gameplay examples of exactly this, since it is a question posed to me quite often.
