Generally, how we allow ourselves to talk about others, reflects our own inner voice's attitude with our self-talk.
Self talk is more than 80% of our daily talking

My grandfather used to tell me a story of his friend who was from the same province as he was. His friend gets a job at one of the most wealthy family in that town as a simple worker. Per my grandfather his friend was a hard worker but for some reason he was never good enough for this wealthy owner so he decides to let him go. He gets very upset and leaves to a capital city stating he despises that town and becomes a Marshall with high ranks and well known person. One day he tells my grandfather let’s go visit our province and our people and they go on this trip. The first thing he does he goes and visits the person who fired him and has a good time. My grandfather being perplexed asks him why you went to see him first? After all he put you through and his response was if it wasn’t for that owner I would not be where I am. Sometimes it’s not the character or poor work ethic but simply wrong environment.

One of the leads walked out and I ended up walking out, went to hospital, then when I come back home other people walk out to. I guess it is a blessing then. I do wish I could quit though but I have rent to pay.

Great perspective! I love this and it’s so true because everyone has the potential to do great things if coachable. Just because someone messes up in one area don’t count them out. Let’s ask ourselves what are we doing as leadership that may be causing so and so to not be excelling in a certain area and see what we can do to help them differently or potentially move them into a different part of the company.

    Simon is wrong here.
By all means, DO emphasize the positive when giving feedback.
But in real life, we hate firing people, and as a result we almost always regret not firing them sooner.
My test for firing somebody is this:
"Will not firing this person NOW have a net negative impact on their coworkers?"
If the answer is yes, then fire them now. If it is a long term employee and you can institute changes that protect the other employees from whatever they are going through, then it is fine to do that. But do NOT expose other employees to a bad work environment just because you don't like firing people. It DOES suck, but it is your job.
Telling yourself that if you just give them more time or more feedback they can fix things is 90% likely to turn out to be an excuse.

I agree with you somewhat but I think you also have to take a deep look at your organization and ask if that problem employee may be showing you something that is wrong within the organization. It's easier to just cut someone loose and blame them as the problem than seeing if that person actually has a good point and that your organization needs to make some changes. If a person is clearly disruptive and constantly rebelling then it may be time to let that person go but I think it would be wise to ask why that person is behaving that way. Maybe that person sees something that you don't and is acting like the canary in the coal mine warning you that you're not paying attention to something essential in your organization.
