Something I think flies/flew over people's heads watching the MCU was the progression of Tony's suits and their equipping process. Yes, the suits are important. But it was a grand gesture to show pepper that she was more important than him being Iron Man. That was also why he had the arc reactor removed from his body
Fun fact: there is a MCU short film called "All Hail The King" and it is revealed that the real Mandarin is still out there and from what I've read/heard, he is going to appear in future MCU films
To answer your question "Why?": it's because Robert Downey Jr. was at the end of his contract and hadn't yet resigned with Marvel, so they weren't sure if he was going to come back for the next Avengers or not. So... they wrote the end of Iron Man 3 so that Tony retired from being Iron Man but didn't die, that way they could bring him back if they negotiated a new contract.
23:37 The only way Tony could feel safe was by working on new suits. This gave him something practical to work on, and it face him a semblance of sense of protection and control. But it was a distraction because it didn't make him face his problems, his ptds, his anxiety which lead to his lack of sleep. He also buried himself in his work, and even if Peper was the most important thing to him, she probably didn't feel like she was his priority because of that. There's also of course the stress of being in a relationship with a superhero, it's worse than being the wife of a police officer/firefighter/soldier. Always wondering if that mission will be their last. He did understand himself more and could manage his anxiety better at the end of the movie, he also started to open up a bit. But something that is really good/realistic is that these problems didn't magically go away by the end of Iron Man 3. And some future events will make him five back into anxiety and paranoia maybe even make it worse (Age of Ultron, Civil War etc.). I like this because it shows a very human and realistic part if Tony, it shows how a normal human would react facing cosmic evils like that. Because for all intent and purpose Tony is a normal human, a genius, but with no superpowers. But it is sad at the same time, because he will never really cure his ptds, and it never really reached out for help more than he did in this movie. The other avengers never really saw through his barriers to reach out in a meaningful way. Here, in another reaction youtuber to the MCU I gave a summary of my Steve Rogers Is Too Pure for this World TedTalk, now you got me to do my Tony Baby Needs a Hug Now TedTalk. Thank you for your attention.
Duaffy you're OK so long as you don't start burning up from the inside! I got teared up when the kid came home to find Tony had given his workshop an upgrade too!
His struggle in this movie is that he is so dependant on his suits and not on his own strength. Him building the suits was a eay to cope with his PTSD after The Avengers. He wasn't actually delaing with his problem. By destroying the suits he is basically acknowledging that he is far more confident in his own ability outside of his own armor. Good video, Duaffy.
i dont know if you noticed it, but at the end of the movie, tony recovers only one thing from his old house, it is that robotic arm that saved his life in the first movie, that is the only thing he came back to save
Tony works on suits as side projects that keep him from working on himself. Pepper wants to remove the distractions in his life so he can grow into the better him.
its ok Duaffy we are fine with double mcu reactions. me personally id be fine if you reacted to nothing but mcu untill you finished xD but i know you dont only like marvel lol

When Norman Osbourne (Green Goblin in the Spider-Man movies) took over as team leader in the 616 (Comic book universe) he combined Iron Man and Captain America into one costume with a red, white and blue paintjob and called himself the Iron Patriot, when Tony references that name it's an inside joke to comic readers. How the Green Goblin took over as leader of The Avengers is complicated.
About using the suit under water, he actually did that in the first avengers movie, but this new one was apparently not water tight. And yes this was kind of a weird movie, but the point of it was that Tony needed to learn that he was more than the suit.
Yeah, it did mention that it wasn’t able to fly immediately when he wanted it to do because it’s a prototype, so it doesn’t surprise me it wasn’t water tight yet
@@user-jt1js5mr3f water did get into it before the glove came off, likely because of damage and/or the fact that it is several smaller parts, could be a number of things. But the reason for my comment was that she asked if he never considered using his suits under water, and he has 🙂
She needed him to get rid of those suits because one nearly killed her in her sleep. She also needed Tony to actually deal with his PTSD instead of building more and more things to "protect" them in his paranoia.

Pepper didn't want Tony to get rid of the suits per se. The issue for her is that she lives with Tony and knows that he has severe PTSD after the events of New York. He is not sleeping and he is clearly working in his lab a lot more as an unhealthy obsession. He is not really talking to her about his feelings and is not getting the professional help or medication he needs. The result of the obsessive personality, sadly. His obsessions are not just interfering in their relationship but are starting to endanger Tony and Pepper as well. He destroyed the suits as a demonstration of his willingness to let go of his obsession. He has not stopped being Ironman, he just needs a little more balance in his life...
Great reaction, this is my favorite Iron Man movie and in the top 5 of all 23 MCU films I love that this movie shows consequences of the Battle in New York and how Tony has PTSD and had to battle that along with fighting a huge portion of the movie as Tony (No Iron Man Suit), I love that because in The Avengers, Steve(Captain America) told Tony without his suit he is nobody, so this movie proved that statement wrong and also showed how far Tony has come since the rat Iron Man
Suits were distraction and he can always make more. He spent many sleepless nights working on suits. Remember when she asked "What is that, mark 7?" and camera panned and showed Mark 42 on the wrist. He was always making new suits trying to protect himself and his family and it was stressing hi him out and she knew it.
It's not very well communicated in the movie, which is a bit busy, but the idea is that Tony's anxiety is causing him to build all of these extremely specialized suits to deal with every potential threat Tony can imagine. Over the course of the story, Tony realizes that what makes him Iron Man isn't the suit, it's his brilliance as an engineer, and that he doesn't need to be prepared for every possible threat, because his gift is his ability to adapt to circumstances. He destroys all of the suits at the end because they represent his anxiety, which he has now overcome.
It would be cool is our clothes attached like his suit. Get dressed fast. Pepper wanted a normal life, relationship a non super hero relationship. Yet I think Pepper knew Tony would never change and live a normal life. I didn't even notice your vein. This was my second favorite iron man Movie. Enjoyed listening to you. Looking forward to the next one. Take care and stay safe.
Remember this kid from this movie. He will appear in one of Avengers 4 scene little older, u will know when (u will ask yourself in this scene ''who is this guy?'')
When I saw this in the theater, I was a bit disappointed. The one thing I liked though was Tony interacting with the kid. Having Tony without all the pretention of wealth and seeing him slumming without the suit was cool. The experience was important to remind him that he is more than Iron Man. It seemed like Tony had forgotten who he was and needed a reset.
Pepper was becoming concerned that Tony, in addition to not stop building and perfecting his armor, was no longer living his own life and one of the armor almost killed her because of a nightmare.
WestWorld was a 1970s movie about a Western themed park that had robot cowboys that killed people, and one of them was played by Yul Brenner? a bald guy and that's why Tony called the guy Westworld

He became obesessed with the suits. I can't remember what mark he was on but he had maybe 3 or 4 suits up to avengers but after the trauma of aliens he got up to 40 suits lol. His suit obsession will lead you right into avengers 2
You should definitely watch the one-shot “All Hail The King”. It a short film about Trevor Slattery in prison, and he’s actually considered a mini celebrity in the prison community” It’s actually very entertaining, and does kinda hint on future Marvel films 😉
In the comics Tony is an alchoholic, at least in the 80's. Instead of going into his alchoholism, as that would require more explanation, the producers went with the trauma of being in outer space in his suit and then nearly falling to his death. Here as mentioned earlier he started to use the suits as a crutch, as a way to cope, meanwhile he shut himself off from life. Pepper wanted him to destroy the suits so he could move on with his life, which is what he did in the end. As for Pepper Potts being a hero, she's called Rescue, and i the comics by the way she married Happy Hogan and not Tony Stark. As for this movie being weird..... ummm.... wait till watch Doctor Strange.
When I was watching the final battle in the theater, I immediately thought, "Tony made all these suits of various types and abilities and he didn't create one that can withstand intense heat?"
There were definitely some unusual choices made for this part, mostly for the sake of keeping it more 'grounded in reality' like the previous two rather than fully embracing the more mystical, metaphysical elements (the Mandarin in the comics wields magical powers secretly derived from alien artifacts while the totally separate Extremis plot was very much rooted in nanoscience). Phase Two was really kind of a balancing act between Marvel Studios finally getting to stretch and expand creatively, while still being kept in check by certain stringent limitations from higher up. Anyway, the core theme of Tony Stark and not his armor being what defines Iron Man was still prevalent throughout at least. As always your reactions to the characters and their struggles are so heartwarming, and Duaffy? Your look in this video was very reminiscent of Pepper Potts to me, though you are so much more radiant. ^ _ ^
•Tony went into space without a proper suit and then fell back to Earth. That would mess anyone up. •He is. He went on to establish A.I.M., which in the comics is a high tech terrorist organization run by mad scientists. •The suit is automated, so Tony can control it without a person inside it. It's a walking suit of armor. •Tony just had another anxiety attack and the suit sensed a disturbance, so it responded to what it perceived to be a threat. •Yes and I still haven't seen it. •So that's not the real Mandarin; he's a failed actor hired to pretend to be the Mandarin so that A.I.M. can use the Ten Rings as a cover for their experiments, namely the Extremis Project. •It's sad in that a daddy will do anything for his baby girl, but twisted in that he's willing to work with terrorists and he's the Vice President. •Yell yes, but not from Extremis.
others have explained but the suits were Stark avoiding his issues and creating barriers between himself and his issues. His blowing up the suits was a symbol of him realising that they were an emotional crutch that put up a wall between him and pepper. Also if you enjoyed this movie are looking for a movie for the 2021 Christmas season, I would recommend Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. It stars RDJ and is directed and written by the same director and writer as Iron man 3. It was also one of the movies that showed RDJ was sober and back, Without it, He would not have been Iron Man. Now in that world, Iron man might have been James Spader, That would have been awesome, but I prefer the Iron man and MCU we got
The suits are an obsession for Tony and he isn't taking care of himself which is effecting Pepper and Tony's relationship. So, in the end, that's why he destroyed the suits. Tony let go to save himself and his relationship.

@@DuaffyMS LOL During the opening scene with Killian, I saw the subtitles reversed, and smirked, thinking about the AIM/MIA mislead later.
Yes, the suits are important. But it was a grand gesture to show pepper that she was more important than him being Iron Man. That was also why he had the arc reactor removed from his body
I thought he blew the suits up because it looked really cool for an end of battle scene.
Unfortunately, Age of Ultron completely ignored that grand gesture Tony made in Iron Man 3.
@@loudboy317 Unfortunately, most of that movie is a disappointment.
That suit testing he did is why engineers spend the majority of their time doing QC
Tony has a nickname for everyone Duaffy lol. He called Loki reindeer games Thor point break
Hawkeye "Legolas"😂
There's a new nickname for thor "Labowski"
Also called Loki Rock of Ages.
He didn’t call Loki “reindeer games Thor point break”...
Captain America « Capsicle »!!!
Fun fact: there is a MCU short film called "All Hail The King" and it is revealed that the real Mandarin is still out there and from what I've read/heard, he is going to appear in future MCU films
Oh he’s definitely in Shang Chi
I really hope he’s written pretty comics accurate in Shang Chi.
"Oh my god, my vein!"
"It's Extremis, GET DOWN!"
BOOM!
You are good at predicting the plot twists that are revealed later.
I love that he went back and rescued Dummy from the rubble after. :)
This movie was based on what Cap said to him in Avengers, “Big man in a suit of armor, take that off and what are you?”
No it wasn't
Yeah I found it hilarious when he takes down "The Mandarin" without his suit.
Yeah it was
i dont know if you noticed it, but at the end of the movie, tony recovers only one thing from his old house, it is that robotic arm that saved his life in the first movie, that is the only thing he came back to save
Tony works on suits as side projects that keep him from working on himself. Pepper wants to remove the distractions in his life so he can grow into the better him.
two marvel movies in the same week? Is it a dream? Best notification of my day
its ok Duaffy we are fine with double mcu reactions. me personally id be fine if you reacted to nothing but mcu untill you finished xD but i know you dont only like marvel lol
Hi duaffy, I'm so happy you like these movies so much you had to do the next one right away. It's very cool that you shared some tears with us. Believe me there are many more tears coming up in the next few movies. But don't worry there will be tears of joy also. Love your reactions 👍🏼
Tony sending the suit to Pepper so she would be safe, so precious
Don't stress about a vein - you're probably the only one who would notice. You've got one of those faces that will still be beautiful when you're 105 years old. Between now and then, don't spend too much worrying about it. Hope that helps, and thanks for another awesome reaction/ review!
Great reaction. There are definitely a few surprises in this movie and it’s highly entertaining. I’m enjoying watching your MCU journey!
When I saw you uploaded today I was pleasantly surprised!
I dunno if you missed the Yinsen cameo in the flashback, but that cracked me up the first time I saw it!
@@ItsMe-ib1xt yea, and it is made of many small parts so that would make it more tricky to make it water tight.
It wasn’t water tight because it was damaged and then that arm came off to pull him out, so there was literally an opening for water
@@user-jt1js5mr3f water did get into it before the glove came off, likely because of damage and/or the fact that it is several smaller parts, could be a number of things.
But the reason for my comment was that she asked if he never considered using his suits under water, and he has 🙂
Cute, Duaffy thinks this is a weird MCU movie. Just wait for Thor 3, Duaffy.
No spoilers
& GOTG
I would argue that Thor 2 is more incoherent.
Thor 3 is not weird. It is very simple in its core. story related not location of course
@@DaDunge I still have no idea what Thor 2 was all about. the first Thor was bad but at least it was simple and straightforward.
She needed him to get rid of those suits because one nearly killed her in her sleep. She also needed Tony to actually deal with his PTSD instead of building more and more things to "protect" them in his paranoia.
"I would've worried, call a psychologist or a therapist." hahaha. You are the best.
You're an interesting reviewer Duaffy M&S girl, I like your channel! lol love your reactions with the little cute, emoji guy that pops out randomly in the video from the right side, I saw that!! haha 😁 also love the Iron Man in suit voice mod you put over your voice at times that's awesome!
Duaffy: The weirdest MCU movie so far.
Guardians of the Galaxy: Hold my hat.
Ragnarok: Now, THIS is weird.
Shhh, no spoilers
Ant-Man: Hold me.
Stephen Strange: did someone call a Doctor?
THANK YOU! Duaffy! thanks very much for your videos and for your great work we are so happy for you look beautiful today, you don't know how good it is to see you and you don’t know how beautiful you are! I can’t believe I’m a little late is because now I was coming home from work and you have no idea how much I miss you your videos are wonderful and your creativity impresses us and are awesome, you deserve all the compliments thank you very much and my congratulations 👍😊
Duaffy: The weirdest MCU movie so far.
Fans: Just wait.
The two AI robot arms, trying to help each other when the house was destroyed, got to me when i saw the movie in the theater.
I just recently watched MCU by seeing 2 movies (in the release order) every day. I think it's pretty normal xd
I know this is an unpopular mcu movie but I really enjoyed it. I loved seeing all the suits and stuff.
The suits were a distraction that kept him from dealing with his trauma
Great reaction, this is my favorite Iron Man movie and in the top 5 of all 23 MCU films
I love that this movie shows consequences of the Battle in New York and how Tony has PTSD and had to battle that along with fighting a huge portion of the movie as Tony (No Iron Man Suit), I love that because in The Avengers, Steve(Captain America) told Tony without his suit he is nobody, so this movie proved that statement wrong and also showed how far Tony has come since the rat Iron Man
Suits were distraction and he can always make more. He spent many sleepless nights working on suits. Remember when she asked "What is that, mark 7?" and camera panned and showed Mark 42 on the wrist. He was always making new suits trying to protect himself and his family and it was stressing hi him out and she knew it.
"Have you ever thought about using that suit under water?"
I think you watched "The Avengers", didn't you?
First Iron Man scene, he was connecting power for the Stark Tower underwater, right?
Yes!!!
Yet I think Pepper knew Tony would never change
and live a normal life.
FINALLY Somebody called pepper out for being angry at Tony for having PTSD after um saving the fucking planet
Duaffy, keep up the good work.
Cool! Thanks for the link to your game channel. lots of stuff there I'll be checking out.
So this means that the series Westworld is actually based on the 70' movie?
@@DuaffyMS yes and there was a sequel called Futureworld i think
Pepper had a big hand in disposing all of Tony's villains in the trilogy. Blowing up Stane and Killian, and having Hammer arrested. 👍
8:41 - 8:53 omg i love how she's talking about the gadgets and the cars.
9:08 - You... You sOn oF a F**aK
10:23 - 10:39 Being a genius
10:40 - The whistle
Epic reaction as always. Keep going.
It a short film about Trevor Slattery in prison, and he’s actually considered a mini celebrity in the prison community”
It’s actually very entertaining, and does kinda hint on future Marvel films 😉
*Grabs hand, sings along!*
"You! You son of a freak!" 😂😂😂
When I was watching the final battle in the theater, I immediately thought, "Tony made all these suits of various types and abilities and he didn't create one that can withstand intense heat?"
"I would like to be used for medicine purposes."
Ummmm... that may get darker than you'd expect.
LOL does waking up bleeding in a bathtub full of ice cubes count?
I think there was an it in that sentence that king of fell off. "I want it to be used for medicine purposes"
"this was the weirdest mcu movie I've seen"
Oh boy....
DAMN! I was going to put this exact comment and you were the first one I scrolled down to!
I have seen weirder things but I understand
not wierd ,I would leave that to doctor strange
It is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
It is an insult to intelligence.
@@Bran_Elingam8369 That is an exaggeration. You haven’t seen many movies then.
if you ever watch the tv show marvel agents of shields remember this movie
Next movie should be The Usual Suspects, it’s probably the greatest thriller/crime movie with the best ending in cinema.
others have explained but the suits were Stark avoiding his issues and creating barriers between himself and his issues.
Pepper and Tony needed those suits destroyed to release all the stress they caused him.
No one will ever, ever, notice that vein. Be certain of that.
The suits are an obsession for Tony and he isn't taking care of himself which is effecting Pepper and Tony's relationship. So, in the end, that's why he destroyed the suits. Tony let go to save himself and his relationship.
Tony used the suit under water at the beginning of the first avengers movie.
Some of the suits are made to go underwater the avengers for example but this one wasn't
Tony's evolution is only getting started 😎

in the comics hulk is physically the strongest marvel character, his base level feats (so not his strongest meaning he does have stronger feats like deystroying the universe and beating every avenger (even at his weakest he one shotted captain marvel and she was knocked out and the punch sent her into space) The Hulk's feats:

This way this way different than the rest of the MCU movies that came out before it but it's still a good Iron Man sequel little kid at the end that was freaking awesome what Tony did for him Tony dealing with PTSD panic attacks and stuff like that type of story line is kind of interesting and then miss pepper becoming a badass in this movie
If Maya had got pregnant at jan 1st 2000 and her pregnancy had lasted exactly 9 months, the baby would be born at oct 1st of the same year. This boy or girl would be 23 years old on mcu timeline because it's already 2023.
She was feeling like he was distracted from their relationship when he was always tinkering with them.
The real Mandarin won’t be showing up till Shang Chi
Maya was originally supposed to be the main villain, but was stopped by Studio Interference. This and Patty Jenkins being rejected to direct Thor 2 made Kevin Feige request to Bob Iger to have complete control on the Marvel Movies. Thankfully Iger granted his request.
It’s also why Black Widow took a long time to get made. And why The Inhumans had a show. And why Age of Ultron had a bunch of plot elements in it.
Basically, Ike Perlmutter believed that female-led superhero movies didn’t sell.
Boy, did he have egg on his face when 2017 came.
You are too awesome.. I am in a love with your reaction..!
At the time, there was a real question whether RDJ would be returning much in future films, so they tried to cap off his Iron Man career this way.
Pepper doesn't like that Tony risks his life, and he's obsessed with it, their relationship has hard time to survive between the superhero life and the normal life of Tony, that's why at the end of this movie, Tony is gonna try to stop being the Iron Man, but it might be harder than he thinks, to be continued in Avengers 2
"This was the weirdest MCU movie I have seen so far." Wait until you see Dr. Strange.
Wait until she meets the Guardians of the Galaxy
The movie was directed by the same guy that did the Lethal Weapon series with Mel Gibson
@Duaffy, This video had a bit of echo, I think your headset mic may have been on.
Love your reactions, keep it up!
When you first see the iron Man in the avengers movie, he's underwater
I like how this movie makes it sound like this the last time we will see Iron Man. Maybe we are not done with him yet
