    Did you notice that Yinsen (scientist from the cave in Iron Man 1) was at the New Years Eve party at the beginning of Iron Man 3. He mentioned to Tony in IM1 that they met previously.
    Also, in phase 2 (Iron Man 3 thru Ant-Man), as a nod to Empire Strikes Back, every movie has a character losing an arm.

    Tony isn't just suffering PTSD from the events of the Avengers, but also from Iron Man 1.
    People complain that other people saved the day here, but that's what has to happen with PTSD, plus Tony had to learn to rely on others as well as to rely on himself without the suit.

    Jarvis is the real NVP in this one. He actually used his own initiative to pull Tony out of the ocean after the house collapsed. Him coming in clutch piloting 40 odd suits at once in perfect synchro is one of my favourite scenes, certainly from the early films, and then, when the M 42 dies and Tony goes “Don’t leave me buddy.” Chills every time. It personally think it is one of the worst movies in the MCU. Basically Robert Downing Jr got his friend as a personal favour to write and direct this movie and he clearly didn't get the character or why people liked Ironman. The story was cheesy, the humour too silly and the action was too cartoonish

    • @susanmaggiora4800

      Delboy0 You mean Shane Black, the guy that wrote Lethal Weapon 1&2 and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which he also directed? You act like he was some hack who got the movie through nepotism, when he’s a famous scriptwriter, actor & director.

    • @Delboy0
      @Delboy0 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@susanmaggiora4800 He may have written good movies in the 1990s and 1980s, but it was RDJ through nepotism that got him the gig as director and writer because Shane Black cast him in Kiss Bang Bang when RDJ was down on his luck and RDJ was returning the favour. Shane Black was not the right director or writer for this movie and genre because he style was dated, writing a more goofy and Saturday morning cartoon Ironman movie. If you like that means you have poor taste in movies, But Ironman 3 is one of the worst reviewed and rated movies in the MCU, so the majority of people think it is a very bad movie. It is the closet thing the MCU has to a Joel Schumacher batman film. You can tell the people in the MCU were not impressed because they didn't allow Shane Black to director or write anymore MCU films.

    SEVERE PTSD stemming from...oh I dunno...fighting all sorts of battles that then culminated with the discovery that there are other worlds, other galaxies and other dimensions that are populated with beings far more powerful and incomprehensible than us, that took him being ready to give his life to save NYC from a nuclear strike. He's seeing that all his petty squabbling in prior movies means nothing because he understands there's a greater threat out there and it is keeping him up at night and giving him panic attacks.

He's the hero, the suit is just an addition. Showing him having these very real struggles with PTSD and anxiety but still pulling through and being the hero when what he thought made him the hero is awesome to watch. i remember back in the day when this movie came out and when i watched it i didn't really know anything about its reception so i had my own opinion without any influences and i thought: holy shit! this was such an awesome exploration of tony's character, his genius as the man behind the suit, but also his vulnerabilities as a human who goes into deathly fights one normally shouldn't be able to walk away from unscratched. this movie came out after the avengers movie where he almost dies in space and the trauma it causes gives him ptsd and anxiety bc he realizes how big the world is outside of earth and its fights and how he's a man in a suit trying to fight back monsters. and i just ADORE how the writers decided that they will explore that human factor in him and SHOW the backlash of said fights, the coping actions of constantly being in the suit, of building an army, of constantly focusing on trying to prepare for having to protect his loved ones. they did SO MANY great things with exploring tony's psyche in this movie while also getting behind his genius who's behind the suit. rdj was always good at portraying tony very humane but i think this particular movie gave a lot of depth to his character as a person and that extra exploration is what essentially sets his character apart from most of the marvel universe heroes. people could see him as the genius, and the cool hero in a suit but also as a human going through the journey of dealing with being in monstrous fights, etc. so yeah, i loved and still love this movie ever since i saw it and thought it was a great addition to iron man's trilogy and a follow up to the avengers on his side. so when i saw a bunch of nerds on the internet wanking about how they hated that the writers made him "weak" and "not like iron man" and "too much time outside of the suit" etc, all this bullshit whining about points that only proved to me that these ppl never understood the intention of his story and were only hanging around for the cool suit scene... man, i remember being really pissed that there were so many idiots around. rewatching it now with you guys made me remember how much and why i love this third iron man movie though, so thanks for the experience!

    Delving into Tony more and his trauma is why I love this movie. It’s not often we see the masculine lead dealing with mental issues, which is a great thing to show.
    I mean, a near death experience? But more than that, take the biggest brain on earth that thinks he knows everything, and then show him the universe and he realizes he knows so little. What does that do to a person? Anxiety.

    In true "heroism comes from your decisions and will more than your powers" fashion, it's less of a flashy story and more of one about Tony healing himself psychologically. The destruction of all the various Iron armors are simultaneously teases (the "hulkbuster" armor) but also that his powered armors are ultimately still all just things Tony himself made. The realization/reminder at the end is that, as long as he's whole, all those things he made before, he can always make again.

    Thinking the bunny's paws were boobs, expecting clothes to burn off to reveal nudity, and getting excited by Tony getting tied up...was Lacey just really thirsty when you guys filmed this?
    Joking aside, I liked that this one took a more stripped down approach in dealing with Tony's PTSD. As an argument against Steve's criticism that it wasn't as bombastic as the first two Iron Man films or reached the highs of The Avengers, the entire point of the Avengers is to fight threats greater than one hero can handle. The big crossover team-up events are special because they're built up from the smaller adventures. I also feel that when you can't go bigger then you need to go more personal. In this case, Tony had to be self reliant and rediscover what makes him a hero. People tend to forget that inside the armor is a mortal human struggling to come to terms with having his worldviews upended.

    Great reaction, you two! Fun as always. I've heard others say they felt this was the weakest of the iron Mans (Men?), but what the hey, still a good time. I like how they were sort of treating the suit or Jarvis or whatever, as its own character, taking action without Tony being conscious of it -- obviously an alarming development.
    I just noticed that ball-cap in your Merch. Got to get me one of those!

    Dont worry, after Avengers the movies are good but they start to ramp back up as you get closer to Avengers 2, and it does the same in Phase 3. Like right now for marvel fans we feel a little like not too much is going on but as soon as the new shows & movies drop that feeling and knowing its going to ramp up to something Awesome kicks right back in.

    Tony builds the Mark I Armor, need to work it out wants Flight ie. Mark II, Mark III full combat version / Needs a suit he can take with him ie. 'Suitcase', upgrades combat version / suit damaged and launches Mark VII to combat the Chitauri goes into space via portal and runs out of air in suit / spends his time building suits for different situations ending up with Mark 42, a suit that he can summon. At this point he no longer needs the 30ish suits he built coming up with ideas, hence House Party Protocol and Clean Slate Protocol. Every suit of armor he makes leads him to new improvements, constantly upgrading, over and over again.

    I don't know why people think that roof scene made the villain come after tony.......that scene motivated him to be better(in a villainous way)but when tony threatened Mandarin he attacked his house.....and then tony started to go after him
    This was a Tony stark movie not an iron man movie......this makes 1st viewing kind of underwhelming but this movie aged better and have grt rewatchability

    Now after all those years with MCU, I like this one much more than watching it when released. It's because I'm thinking about this movie as a filler in whole character developement. And Tony got way much of developement till the end. So action - yes, humor - yes, new toys - yes (and grandiously destroyed to develop relationship with Pepper). Not everything was perfect, but as I say, it is a big part in Tony's jurney. You'll sebe. And of course thank you for your reaction, keep it up.

    This is definitely my favourite of the trilogy. It was really good. As Tony/Iron-Man is my favourite of all the Marvel characters, I was very sad to see it all end. I was also very sad seeing all the suits get wrecked, as well as the house. Like many of the fans, I always find myself wondering why Tony didn't just initiate the House Party Protocol at the start of the house attack (or even just get in a suit which wasn't a prototype and barely-working!).

    It is kind of fascinating, that the 3 original main heroes of the Phase I-III of the MCU have totally different developments... Iron Man started big, but Iron Man II and III are considered each a bit „weaker“ then the previous one; or Iron Man I > Iron Man II > Iron Man III, with Captain America, you have it completely the other way I < II < III; and Thor is just another case... the first is considered mediocre, the second one of if not the worst MCU movie and the third belongs in the top category, so III > I > II

  • @charliebaker1427

    Honestly my favorite ironman movie, while it doesn't follow the extremis storyline that well, its one of the mcu's few takes on a comic storyline that I actually like. Granted they definitely missed an opportunity to make real use of ironmans most iconic villian the mandarin but still good movie

  • @giovanniecruz872
    @giovanniecruz872 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Welcome to level 7 😉 I very much appreciated that it wasn't the same old same old. Stylistically its a very different movie than the first two which throws people off.
    The whole christmas vibe and Shane Blackisms really reminded me of watching action films in the 90's. I can see why the film is dividing though. So many bold decisions. I however respect bold decision making in adaptations.
    I mean after the event's of the Avengers...Tony is dealing with a simple question "Does the suit make the man or does the man make the the suit?" By the end of the movie he found the answer to that question.

    I agree with Steve. This was the least of the 3 Iron Man movies for me. It is also one of the lesser MCU movies as well IMO. It's still an 'ok' watch on it's own. Also, It is important to watch in the MCU series because of the character story arc.
    Tony is having PTSD / anxiety attacks due to the pressure he feels from what he learned in Avengers (Alien threats to Earth, etc.). As Lacey pointed out, Tony accepts that with or without the suit, he is still Iron Man. Another important character arc for Tony is he was able to adapt the Extremis tech to remove the shrapnel near his heart. Also, Pepper was cured so 'bye bye' to her superpowers and new found violence streak.

    this is one of the least favorites of the marvel line up but i'm torn on this movie
    i think the villain aspect flopped a lot of people wanted the real mandarin (who is tony's main villain in the comics) and i just think overall the villain aspect was weak (that's kind of my main ripe with thor 2 as well though i do actually really like some aspects of the movie like loki)
    but I ADORE the development of tony in this film
    tony dealing with ptsd, learning he's more than a suit and really giving shine to tony as A PERSON and not just as iron man or a 'hero'
