A little late to the party, but I got this monitor for $350 after buying only budget 1080p 144hz TN panels for years. Holy shit, I didn't realize what I was missing. Every game I play now looks completely different
Contrast is a bit on low side and left side has a little backlight bleed. Although text clarity is sharp for productivity, colors look good, sRGB mode is actually usable and I use a monitor stand so no issues there, came from Samsung curved VA panel and now it looks blurry to me, pretty happy with this, good deal for $380.
A good thing to note with the LG monitors is that the connection inputs are perpendicular to the panel. This makes it super hard to wall mount with some VESA mounts, speaking from experience. The parallel ones like on the Gigabyte panel shown are way better for that kind of setup.
@@EmptiedPockets What i mean is that if the inputs are on the side, it's much easier to route the cables through a duct if the monitor is wall mounted. Since the LG inputs are on the back of the monitor, your wall duct will have to align with where the inputs are because the cables are sticking out directly towards the wall. Don't think I did a good job explaining it but shoot me a pm if you want and I can send some photos of my setup with an LG monitor and why it was so hard
My wife just bought me 2 of these for my birthday. We’re in the middle of moving into our first home so they’re still in the box and I wasn’t sure how I was going to like them. It definitely put my mind at ease and I’m thankful I found this review
His review is SO FRESH, it's not even available yet through his link! Seriously though, GJ on getting the first review of this new monitor. And your content looks top notch!!
I tried both 32GP850-B and 32GK650F-B and side by side, the 650 was the better panel. The backlight is way better and uniform. If you look at the 850 from any other angle from the center, you will notice the contrast change...this is also present if you look at areas away from the center. I don't understand why no reviewers ever talk about these things.
It differs from monitor to monitor a *lot*. However, the Nano IPS panels do have significant IPS glow (either blue or orange) on all of them it seems. Actual backlight issues like bleeding (which would also amplify glow btw) though, differst from sample to sample in bizarre ways. Also: for some reason, bleed can become less after use (IPS glow usually doesn't change much though frm what I've seen) especially the first few weeks/months. Probably with the pressure between the panel layers shifting as heat does its thing.
I bought this monitor about a year ago, and for me it's incredible, good colors, good response time, and reasonably good black levels considering it's an IPS. There are no light leaks, the only problem I found with it were 2 burnt pixels that I can only see if I have my face glued to the screen. For me, an 8.5!
I just bought the 27GP83 which is the successor to the 27GL83. Coming from the 27GN850 I much prefers the more natural colors on the 27GP83. I do agree on the monitor legs though as they protrude out a little far.
Watching this on my LG 27GP850 ;) Thanks Optimum for your wonderful reviews. I was on a VA curved 165hz 1080p and this LG monitor panel blew my mind away. Everything looks so crisp because of 1440p and the colours look fantastic! Content and Gaming looks so much better.

yeah Tim from HU made a good detailed review of this monitor, seems like the best choice in it's price range, too bad i am after an ultrawide and not just a 1440p display
Just bought this thing for 250 euro. Came with 3 stuck pixels which seems to be a known QC issue with this monitor but for the rest it's got magnificent colors (sRGB mode looks washed out and green, HDR effect looks good) a good contrast (I think I might have just gotten lucky with a good panel) and has great motion handling. The negatives are that it only displays 2k 144hz via hdmi which was my fault for not searching it up but now I'm stuck not using the entire monitor, and the fact that the screen is very wobbly if your table shakes at all. For the rest the HDR sucks ass (like it's super bad) but the brightness is pretty damn good for a lower mid range monitor. Feel free to ask me more.

I just bought the LG 27GP850 but for some reason its capped at 144hz instead of being at 165 and the Overclock option for 180hz is also greyed out, is there something I can do or should I return it?
The question is? Would still recommend this over 4k? Im a little bit older now. I enjoy apex and COD, and i want to use refresh advantages but im also looking for high details as well. Im thinking about going 4k and using the rescaling option like you do as well. I think that im more for pixels since the overall server perfomance in COD with the not so great netcode is not worth the extra refresh speed when you can have 144 hz on 4k or 180 hz in 1440p
Hi, I also have this monitor. There is a question bothers me for long time. When I set "adaptive-sync" as basic, "overlock" option works fine but "motion blur reduction" option grayed out. But if I turn off G-sync in nvidia control panel, then "adaptive-sync" option will gray out and "motion blur reduction" works fine, but "overlock" option also gray out!!! I am really confused. BTW, I use display port rather than hdmi. I really appreciate if you know the reason!!!
первый хороший и понятный обзор, который я посмотрел. я действительно понял, что это за монитор. спасибо. потому мои соотечественники тупо зачитывают характеристики с бумажки, ничего не добавляя от себя.
My recommendations for 1440P high refresh rate monitors are: Gigabyte M27Q for ~$300, Dell 2721DGF for~$400, LG 27GP850 (the monitor in this video) for~$500, and the Samsung Odyssey G7 for ~$600-700. All are great monitors for their price point, it just depends on how much you can spend.
How do you enable MBR? I got mine today but don’t seem to have access to that feature. I tried without the OC and with the OC but nothing. The option is just greyed out.
I have the older LG27GL850 and I am generally happy with the monitor, but I did replace the stand, as I dont like the prongs, how wide they are, and I think the OSD on this new version looks like it was made for teenagers with its theme. But my experience agrees with you in general, these are good panels.
Hi! you can use 180 hz with mbr at the same time? i bought the monitor and couldn't use mbr unless i turn of overclock and adpative sync... Thanks a lot!🙏
Maybe can you give us the best Settings for this Monitor ? I dont know my 6 year old Philips IPS Monitor for 100 € has a better display then my new LG27GP850. I try everything but it looks like it has a grey/green veil. If i change the brightness maybe to 50, it looks like bleached and grey is to bright. When i reduce it the font is creme colored.. i dont know.
Why is there a 27GP850-B version? I heard that they're literally the same but there's no clear clarification out there (at least when I'm trying to find one)
Unfortunately, these monitors don't reach brazil market, and I don't know why.. Stil using my 34UC79G which is outdated to gaming and suck for color on my videos, had to lower the frequency because of burn-in as well. I'd love to switch to one size fits all for gaming and video editing!
How is the IPS glow on your unit? I'm returning it because the IPS glow on mine is horrible on the left side and not only in black scenes. Even cycling throughout colors when testing/looking for dead pixels, the left side is more brighter! Really disappointed.
Is sthis monitor a viable option ? or in the same fashion there are on the market better options ? please suggest. Thanks for the contents of this channel
Being someone who plays both 1080p and 1440p, I would say AA is required to reduce the jagged edges. The only reason some hardcore gamers turn it off, is to gain a few fps over everyone else who has it enabled.... that extra fps isn't making them any better at the game. Now if they have a budget rig, mid range cpu mid range gpu, yeah, turning AA off can be a huge boon vs having it on. Someone like me, I have a 3090. 1080p and even 1440p I can have AA on and not lose any real performance. I still get 180fps in warzone at 1440p.... IF I had 4k, I would play in 4k without AA or AA on lowest setting, simply because at that point, the screen is so sharp and there are so many pixels, that AA wont have as much of an effect. Even now, I can set warzone to upscale to 4k and leave AA off, and it looks just as sharp as 1080p with AA on max.... I would say, when we finally hit 8k gaming as the "norm", we will no longer need ANY form of AA in games.... at that point, only AF will be required (which effects textures at off angles)
AS FAR AS BACKLIGHT STROBING is concerned. Its a useless technology. When a typical LCD monitor, rather its TN, VA, IPS, the pixel itself will still be the color that it is. The backlight turning off doesn't mean the pixel stops displaying a color. Its more of a TRICK than a "solution" to the motion blur problem. So you just end up getting headaches. I actually leave flicker backlight off on every monitor ive owned that had it. Its useless. Now on the flip side, there is OLED, which still suffers from the base motion blur issues due to sample and hold (aka how LCD's work) but if you have black frame insertion, the monitor then behaves more like a CRT and motion blur is significantly reduced. A 60hz OLED with BFI enabled will have the same motion blur quality as a 240hz monitor. Don't believe me? Go to RTINS.com and look up the LG CX OLED review. Scroll down the page, and look at the motion blur rest image they captured at 60hz with BFI enabled. Then in another tab, go back to RTINGS.com and look up any 240hz monitor that you prefer. And once again, scroll down to the motion blur test, and look at the test image for the 240hz they captured. They will look almost identical. Now some have argued that "smoothness" wise, 240hz is still "better" which I wont disagree with. However "smoothness" of someone running a crossed your screen when you are standing still, and motion blur which is more of an effect when you whip your mouse to 180 headshot someone, are two different things. A lot of people confuse smoothness with motion blur and vice versa. I would LOVE to have an OLED gaming monitor, HDR400 True Black certified, with black frame insertion. Even if it was 4k60, I would buy it in a heartbeat.... 4k120 with black frame insertion would be better obviously, and of course I would buy that over 4k60 + BFI, but still. OLED is the future. Burn in also isn't an issue. Its fake news these days.
Really nice video as always ! Have you tried the asus vg27bq ? I own the asus one and it's a TN panel, I really like the response time but the colors are a bit washed off so I'm wondering if the LG one could be worth upgrading to.
I would have gotten an LG but while reading reviews I found a few saying that it goes into sleep mode and resets all the settings back to default and that there was no fix for it. Went with a msi 1440p instead
Question If i want to have 180hz i need to activate adaptive sync on extended but is adaptive sync not bad? Isn't it giving input delay for competitive games? Thats what i heard about vsync etc
Very good screen. coming from the XL2540 , the Motion blur reduction is not even needed, i notice 0 ghosting compared to the zowie, like at all. It's an useless feature as the brightness drops way too low, i tried it out for fun.
Perfect Video!! I would love to see a Video "complete Silent custom loop". I try to find out how to create a silent build, but it is very difficult to buy Party and try them out. So I think with ur experience it would be possible :-D Thanks for ur Input!

I just bought the LG 27GP850 but for some reason its capped at 144hz instead of being at 165 and the Overclock option for 180hz is also greyed out, is there something I can do or should I return it?
dont use hdmi port, dp instead
Wanting to return a monitor because of 21hz is wild
after one day of searching for a good monitor with gaming n productivity ready finally :). with your review I can buy this in peace
Isn't the MSI MAG274QRF-QD currently the top-dog? Biggest problem with LG is still the lack of contrast.
It is. But he doesn't review it for some reason? Maybe they don't provide units
6:20 watching this rn on one of em :D
First high refresh monitor I've ever owned so I'm superbly happy with it
Do you have any news on when we could expect the 34” version?
All your videos look super clean
man Ali seem to know exactly what I'm looking to buy, thanks man
Just bought the newer revison of this monitor (27GP850P-B) - loving it already. Bought it here in Denmark for 270USD
Great review! Is the GP950 next?
Hopefully
Nice! I have a 27GL850 which I love. Not letting it go any time soon.
Definitely! Just bought this 2K with 180hz(overclocked) really damn good !
@@pepsiboy4274 how good does the monitor handling hdr content?
Hi, I also have this monitor. There is a question bothers me for long time. When I set "adaptive-sync" as basic, "overlock" option works fine but "motion blur reduction" option grayed out. But if I turn off G-sync in nvidia control panel, then "adaptive-sync" option will gray out and "motion blur reduction" works fine, but "overlock" option also gray out!!! I am really confused. BTW, I use display port rather than hdmi. I really appreciate if you know the reason!!!
watching this with my 27GP850 monitor
and my morning just got better
I'm waiting for its big brother, the 34GP950G! Hope you will review it :)
I recently bought a 32" version of this monitor, really liking is so far
The 21:9 ultrawide variant (LG 34GN850) is also amazing, I just got it a few days ago and I'm never going back to 16:9
I still use this monitor in 2024, bought it 3y ago and still rivals many other monitors, its much cheaper now too if you can still find it.
I will be buying it soon
Do you have backlight bleeding issues?
@@6u99y I think if there were any issues, he would have written about them
Great video. As usual.
i was just looking at this! Great timing!
первый хороший и понятный обзор, который я посмотрел. я действительно понял, что это за монитор. спасибо. потому мои соотечественники тупо зачитывают характеристики с бумажки, ничего не добавляя от себя.
Thanks for this review! I'm late on the monitor updates, is there a more updated model you would recommend that's not OLED? :)
The LG27GP850 is on sale for me (german amazon) right now - 280€ instead of 380€, guess ill just have to get it lol.
@@mars.unreal yeah, but 2 years ago it was more expensive
@@ohmythirdeye ye 380 was already a good price i guess. But now i got even 100€ less :D. So lucky, i love the monitor so far.
@@mars.unreal nice, I've just pulled the trigger on this one, at 285€
3 years later, what is your new recommendation for non-OLED 1440p monitor?
This is great and all but we seriously need a workout routine. Man is buff as shit.
But my experience agrees with you in general, these are good panels.
what stand did you replace it with ?
@@finessin i want to know too
Just got the 32 inch model. Pretty happy with it except the blacks are very gray. Aside from that it’s great.
Not sure it’s as good as my Alienware AW2721D (LG panel)
nice review i got this monitor the best i ever owned
Would you still recommend this now?
I mean its still cool and cheaper than then
Yes yes yes
Hi! you can use 180 hz with mbr at the same time? i bought the monitor and couldn't use mbr unless i turn of overclock and adpative sync... Thanks a lot!🙏
Just bought mine for 295€, looking for extra validation for my purchase lol
Do you like it, how it's performing?
Maybe can you give us the best Settings for this Monitor ? I dont know my 6 year old Philips IPS Monitor for 100 € has a better display then my new LG27GP850. I try everything but it looks like it has a grey/green veil. If i change the brightness maybe to 50, it looks like bleached and grey is to bright. When i reduce it the font is creme colored.. i dont know.
Hi Optimum, what is the minimum GPU requirement to drive 144Hz at 1440p for this monitor? Thanks!
RTX 2060 or above
Watching you destroy people in Valorant makes your videos even better 😄

I love Gigabyte M27q❤❤
How are the colors?
@@MaximusLX Awesome 😍❤
Great video! Is this monitor supposed to substitute the GL850 or is it just a different product?
SAMSUNG Odyssey G7 > all other 27'' 2k monitors. Waiting for your review hehe.
True
Thanks for the great content! Please review and compare with the 27GP950! Would also appreciate recommendations re GPU pairings for particular games.
Great vid! Maybe I’ll try to get one 🤔. Been looking for a nice 1440p.
Any comparison to the old 27GL850? It's on a discount right now so it's cheaper than this one actually.
Question
If i want to have 180hz i need to activate adaptive sync on extended but is adaptive sync not bad? Isn't it giving input delay for competitive games?
Thats what i heard about vsync etc
Navigating their menu is confusing. The overclock setting isn’t showing up anymore how do i go back to it?

Thanks for a great video! How does this monitor pair up with the 27GN950 as a second monitor?
M27Q is BGR sub pixel layout which is bad for texts, reading documents
Very good screen. coming from the XL2540 , the Motion blur reduction is not even needed, i notice 0 ghosting compared to the zowie, like at all. It's an useless feature as the brightness drops way too low, i tried it out for fun.
Should I get this or the m27q? 🤔
Perfect Video!! I would love to see a Video "complete Silent custom loop". I try to find out how to create a silent build, but it is very difficult to buy Party and try them out. So I think with ur experience it would be possible :-D Thanks for ur Input!
