      Many reasons to be proud. I observed the Korean Peninsula soldiers, the Chinese, the Scottish, the Russian, and others… they are all marching forward faultlessly, again, marching forward. Ours do all kinds of moves, and all synchronized.

      I grew up on Army bases as an Army Brat, I heard taps every night and I never realized what Taps stood for. I went into the Army in July 1966 after I graduated from high school in Frankfurt Germany and was in Vietnam on Jan 4th 1967 which was my Moms 40th birthday. I lost a lot of friends in the 173rd Airborne which I have always been upset about. After I left Vietnam I spent 2 tours in Germany, I used to play in my rack at night and listen to Taps and it had a different meaning for me. I laid in my rack and cried every night listening to and remembering all who were lost.

    Our entire military's ceremonial units at their very best! Having been at our country's most hallowed and sacred ground of Arlington for a wreath laying ceremony it has always left me in awe and incredibly proud to be an American! Having 5 family members buried at Arlington this sacred place holds a great deal of reverence for me and my family! With that said I am confused, why were Australian military personnel being honored in an American cemetery?

    • @skipdar4396
      @skipdar4396 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      James Kellogg ... they may have been visiting dignitaries and were invited to attend. The ones in uniform may have been their dignitaries’ escort. Their recognition may have been protocol. This is just my guess.

    • @jamest1148
      @jamest1148 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Australians were our ally in more than 1 war. They paid honors to the Unkown Soldier as a comrade in arms. Other visiting military personnel (including Prince Harry) have done the same thing when they visited.

    • @mikeet69
      @mikeet69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there may be a misunderstanding. I believe it was the Australian PM as was announced. This was a foreign dignitary and ally honoring the USA Military by visiting and laying a wreath at the Tomb of The Unknowns along with the SecDef at the time (John Kerry) along with 2 others including I believe the SecState. As stated other foreign dignitaries have done the same thing. Obviously this is all planned in advance and the PM travels with many people including military personnel from Australia. It appears they even have their own flag corps in back. To pay "thanks" and out of respect the Australian National Anthem was also played. I was fortunate enough to also witness a wreath laying during my only trip there. I had no idea it was going to happen. In my case it was a Japanese Admiral escorted by a US Navy Admiral. Also had the Army band and the Navy Honor guard on each side. I can't remember about the steps leading up to the plaza, but also a formation there as in this video. I really enjoyed being able to see them down below and marching up in formations of each branch of the military in this video. Honestly from the marble plaza steps they seem to appear from out of nowhere coming up the steps. Not sure if the public can go near the steps even at the bottom or not. Wish I had at least gone to the road below to look up. Also honestly wished the camera had zoomed in on the Aussie military uniforms as they look very interesting. IMHO.

"Yes Daddy, that's it...Taps" Then she told me that some kids ask her "why do you cry when you hear that song?" I told her to say, "Thats because a Soldier just died you idiot." "I like that Daddy."

During the Korean War the Americans, Australians and New Zealanders were defending a vital section of country, they were out numbered by lots, it was the Americans big One that ran away and the Australians and New Zealanders who stayed and fought the North Koreans back and eventually into a defeat. The Americans who ran away were branded as cowards by their President, and the Australians and New Zealanders who received the Medal of Honour. Same medal was given to the men of 6 Royal Australian Regiment after the Battle of Long Tan in Viet Nam. These are two examples of why the Australians attended this service, we respect and Honour our American brothers and Sisters.

      With rifles, they usually shoot 3 volleys w/7 rifles, multiple cannons are shot 21 times, echo's could also account for some you hear. There are burials going on through Arlington on a daily basis, as many as 7 or more burials p/day. Some shots you hear could be from one or more of these burials. Best to get that chip off your shoulder. John Kerry is an honorable and patriotic American. That you disagree with his personal beliefs or politics is neither here nor there, as well as completely irrelevant.

      @Alconium him and McCain apparently made peace and McCain was in a POW camp. I find it silly for anyone who wasn’t involved personally in that conflict to hold something like that so much against him. At least he was over there helping do what he could.

      @PARA Trooper - Just b/c John Kerry became an anti-war protester after his honorable service doesn't mean he is a "disgrace." In fact, John Kerry is a national hero and patriotic American who did more for his country than you ever did, you little weasel and whiner. (And btw, America celebrates the diversity of its ideals and beliefs. It is not necessary for any two people to agree with each other in this country. Any number of people can agree to disagree over any number of things -- including politics and the Viet Nam War -- and all will still be considered patriotic. That said, the U.S. had no business in Viet Nam.

    I left 2 years after we got the new uniform. Australian drill, saluting and the way we celebrate our unknown soldier is far more natural and reverential than this robotic abomination. But our uniforms make us look like green koalas. Glad I left when I did.

    • @robertwarren4248
      @robertwarren4248 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      This "robotic abomination" has been a respected and revered part of the respect shown to the unknown soldiers and those interred at Arlington for a long long time. Except for a just a few loose cannons and lunatic fringe losers, you'll find all Americans support and are very moved by these ceremonies. You'll also probably find most if them willing to knock your teeth out over your disrespect for it.
